VS 2013 Community - Outlook 2010 issue
I recently installed VS 2013 Professional Community on a Windows 7 Home Premium machine. Now every time I start Outlook 2010 I get a "Windows Installer - Preparing to install" dialog, followed by a few "Microsoft Visual StudioProfessional 2013"
dialogs that says "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual StudioProfessional 2013. . .". I have the same installation on my laptop & it doesn't happen there.
Anyone have any idea why, or how to resolve?
Hello Scott,
Do you have any add-ins registered for Outlook? If so, try to disable them. Does it help?

Sharepoint Foundation 2013 and Outlook 2010 Reminders
Hello, I have recently been informed by one of my users that they are experiencing a peculiar issue in regards to their SharePoint calendar. A brief history is that we are currently using SharePoint
Foundation 2013 with Outlook 2010, all of our users have calendars for their departments in SharePoint, and those calendars have been added to Outlook for their convenience. This particular user has a SharePoint alert set up on their calendar for all changes,
and receives an alert immediately. After some troubleshooting, this is how my user is getting the issue they described:
User1 will create an appointment from Outlook on the SharePoint calendar that User2 has their alert set up for. User2 will receive the appropriate alert email that there has been a new event
added to the calendar. User1 then receives an Outlook reminder that their event is coming up. If User1 clicks "dismiss" on that reminder, User2 will have another alert email generated hours later which informs them that the calendar event for User1
has been modified. If you view the event from SharePoint it will show a new modified time with User1's name, even though there have been no changes made. The other interesting part about the modified time is that it will not reflect when User1 clicked “dismiss”
on the reminder, instead it will reflect the time that the SharePoint alert email was generated.
This is not a fluke issue; I've been able to recreate the scenario 100% of the time if I follow this pattern. I can also simulate it on any calendar I create or that is already existing in our
environment.
I have been researching and trying to find an answer to this problem for several days now, but the only thing I have found is a post from someone else experiencing the same issue with no solution.
So any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If there is more information that is needed to better assist me, please let me know.
Thank you for your time.Hello, if I remember correctly the issue was that I created the form with InfoPath 2013 and was trying to test using InfoPath 2010. This does not work.
Did you create the form using InfoPath 2013? -
Lync 2013 with outlook 2010 meeting error
I have installed lync basic 2013 with outlook 2010. The meeting add in is in place, but I get an error when trying to set up a Lync meeting "unable to identify the calendar owner"
What to do to correct this?Hi,
You seem to get the error “Unable to identify the calendar owner. Please contact your support team.”
This is caused if the Online Meeting Add-in for Lync 2010 cannot determine the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) or Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address of your Microsoft Outlook account. You need to contact your Exchange administrator.
If you mail server does not support online meeting(such as a pop3 server), you can join the meeting as anonymous user through the meeting URL.
You can also create a new profile to check the result:

I have two servers. One is Exchange 2010 and the other is Exchange 2013.
Three of our users had mailboxes on Exchange 2013 for the last few weeks with no problems. They used Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2010. After moving the rest of our ~25 users to Exchange 2013 the users with Outlook 2010 began to be prompted for their
password constantly.
They try entering it and it immediately reappears.
The odd thing is it shows connected and they are able to send and receive emails correctly.
I've tested our exchange connectivity using www.testexchangeconnectivity.com and all is well there.
I'm not really sure what's going on.
Any help is appreciated.
Luke
Thanks, Luke PickardThis can appear if Outlook clients are trying to connect to OAB virtual directory, and don't succeed for some reason. Mailbox and mailflow will work, but password prompt will appear when Outlook tries to contact OAB. Try to investigate in that direction.
Also, perform Outlook Configuration test (right click Outlook icon in task bar while holding CTRL and select Test email autoconfiguration.

Am trying to connect my icloud to my outlook account. Icloud says I have two versions of Outlook running. I installed Outlook 2013 but Outlook 2010 is a trial version and I can't seem to be able to delete it without deleting all of Windows Office 2010
You will have to remove one of the two versions, which one is your choice.

OWA receives mail long before Outlook (Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2010 and 2013)
I recently upgraded my Exchange environment to Exchange 2013 SP1. The Outlook users are now experiencing a delay when receiving email. When they do arrive they appear in batches, often 20-45 minutes after they were sent, from a mailbox on the same server.
Additionally, the mail appears instantly when you monitor the inbox using OWA. The users are experiencing this on both Outlook 2010 and 2013 clients configured in both cached and non-cached modes. This appears to be a problem with Outlook connecting to Exchange.
Any suggestion about how to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Hi,
From your description, when users use OWA, they can receive emails normally. But if they use Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013, there is a delay in receiving emails.
I recommend you use the Outlook safe mode to determine whether the problem is caused by add-ins. Also, please make sure users have installed the Outlook latest Service Pack.
If the issue persist, please create a new profile and check the result.
Hope it helps.

Synching SharePoint 2013 to Outlook 2010 - Is it possible to restrict the views?
Hi,
I'm trying to synch SharePoint 2013 calendars with Outlook 2010. If I require a certain view from SharePoint e.g. [Me] as a Project Manager to be synched to Outlook, can you restrict it so only this data is pulled through?
I've tried and it currently pulls through all the calendar appointments on SharePoint through to Outlook. I only require a certain view of appointments, and dont want this information to be public to the rest of my organisation.
Many thanksHi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to sync the appointments which were assigned to you in the SharePoint calendar with Outlook.
I recommend to use a group calendar and then sync the calendar with Outlook. After that, only your appointments will be synced with Outlook.
Best regards.
Thanks

I have just purchased a new laptop running Windows 8.1 and succeeded in setting up my email account in MS Outlook 2010. I’ve also been able to import all my old emails into MS Outlook 2010, but strange things are happening .
On the old laptop the Outlook email account was Pop3 / SMTP. On the new laptop Outlook has set up an IMAP account, which is constantly trying to 'sync'. Also, I can't see anything in the email folders unless I am 'online'. I don’t really need to sync my Outlook emails with my webmail and mobile phone emails, therefore do I need an IMAP account? If possible, I would prefer to revert to Pop 3 / SMTP, can this be done ?
Another confusing issue is the number of duplicated sub-folders in MS Outlook 2010. The left hand side of my Outlook screen is as follows:
Favorites: With the following sub-folders: ‘Inbox’, ‘Sent Items’, ‘Deleted Items’
Outlook Data File: With the following sub-folders: ‘Inbox’, ‘Drafts’ ‘Sent Items’, ‘Deleted Items’, ‘Junk Email’, ‘Outbox’, ‘RSS Feeds’, ‘Search Folders’
My Email Address: With the following sub-folders: ‘Inbox’, ‘Drafts’, ‘Sent’, Trash’, ‘Bulk Mail’, Deleted Items’, ‘Junk Email’, ‘Post’, ‘Search Folders.
I am confused by the presence of so many duplicated sub-folders under the three main folder titles. In addition, incoming emails go into the ‘Inbox’ in My Email Address. However,if I send an email, it parks itself in the Outlook Data File ‘Outbox’ and will stay there unless I re-send it from the ‘Outbox’
I would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on any of the above.

Thank you for your response.
All my Outlook account settings are as per your post, with the exception that I was not given the option to choose a POP3 account. It set up an IMAP account and I cant change it, as under Internet Email Settings / Server Information, the 'Account Type' box is greyed out and fixed to IMAP. Is there any way of changing this setting ?
Regarding your query: Have you looked at the following setting for sending emai?. In settings > change > more settings, there is an option in "outgoing mail", "login before sending mail". Untick this option.
Indidentally, I have Outlook 2010, and 2013, and the mail is set at pop3 smtp, and is greyed out.
Presumably removing the 2010 account will allow the change to imap, if required. -
Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2010 anywhere - Public Folders disappear from Outlook favourites
Hi,
we have a 3 server Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG published with Forefront TMG.
Outlook 2010 anywhere connection works fine (only anywhere connection is possible, there are no clients in the exchange server AD).
The users are adding public folders to their local Outlook favorites. In about 10% of the Outlook starts, those public folders are missing in the favorites. Local favorites folders are still there, public folders are connected.
After restarting the Outlook a few times, the favorites are back.
Deleting the outlook.xml brought no success, the favorites seem to be saved somewhere on the exchange server.
Outlook 2010 is up to date, all hotfixes are installed.
There are no related entries in servers or clients eventlogs, the logs of the TMG server are normal.
Does anyone have a simular behavior?
Thanks in advance!Hi,
According to your description,it is clear that something got corrupted, but it is hard to say directly what caused it. However, there are a few troubleshooting steps to determine what caused it and you can also make a backup of your Favorite Folders list
so you can easily restore it when it still happens.
Pleaser refer to the following article:
Favorite Folders empty upon restart

Also it may appear to be more of a issue with 2000 .pub type of files. As users can create a 2010 .pub file and it works great fine. But every time a user opens a 2000 .pub file via outlook and tries to edit and save it requests the

hi all
Just bought my new X201i with 4gb RAM, but can't say I'm very impressed with start up speeds or program running. I'll probably get another 4 gb of RAM to see if this helps - and perhaps an SSD when I can afford one...
my real problem though is Outlook 2010 - its awful! keeps crashing, painfully slow, won't allow me to keep mail on server etc etc etc - anyone else having similar issues?
any help gratefully received!
JustinHi,
To narrow down the cause, we have to test it in the following environment:
1. Common client with Windows and Outlook 2010 installed, no Citrix and Vmware.
2. Client installed Windows system and Critrix & Outlook 2010, no Vmware.
3. Vmware system with Windows and Outlook 2010 installed, no Citrix.
And also create a new mailbox for test.
Do the users ecounter this issue if they logon on all the 4 servers?
Do you enable Cached Exchange Mode?

Outlook 2010 issue with .pub attachments and read-only
Hello,
Just starting this week per users they can't open a .pub(publisher) document from Outlook 2010, then edit the document click save or click the send to email button without being prompted to save the file to their my doc's or some where. Tested
it out and get the same error. I can click forward, then click on the publisher attachment, then edit and save or click the X to close the document and the attached document includes the changes. Then I can email out. So it works that way
but not the way they did it before.
Also we did install updates last week so could be an recent update that is causing the issue.
Appreciate any idea's or suggestions.
Thanks,

Hi Everyone-
Can anyone give me advice on how to configure my Outlook providers for my environment?
Single 2007 Server in coexistence with separate CAS/MBX 2013 Sp1.
It currently looks like this:
I changed the EXPR CertPrincipleName after coexistence due to a cert pop-up that was occurring in Outlook (2010) while connected to a 2007 mailbox.
All connectivity and mail flow is working fine, EXCEPT, connecting Outlook to a 2013 mailbox. It finds the user/mb but fails at login.
Thank you for your time!Hi Andrew
There is nothing much complicated to think if we use Exchange Server Deployment assistant as it an perfect guide.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/exdeploy2013/Checklist?state=2419-W-EgBEAgAAQAAAAQECAQAAAAg%7e
To allow your Exchange 2013 Client Access server to redirect connections to your Exchange 2007 servers, you must enable and configure Outlook Anywhere on all of the Exchange 2007 servers in your organization.
Users with mailboxes still on 2007 will be connecting to CAS 2013 and then will be proxied to CAS 2007
Exchange 2013 will coexist easily with 2007 mailboxes by using ActiveSync. As soon as the DNS entry for 2007 CAS points to the 2013 Client Access Server, 2007 mailboxes that use ActiveSync will be able to sync through the 2013 Client Access server without
any configuration changes. This is assuming that if the 2007 CAS Servers are using a default configuration such as SSL (443) with basic authentication. Integrated authentication by default should remain enabled on the Proxy folder that is located beneath
the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync Folder.
During coexistence the 2013 OAB will be the default OAB.Run below command to check
get-mailboxdatabase | fl identity,*offline*
Run below command to change Activesync virtual directory
Get- ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory –Server “Exchange 2013 ServerName” | Set-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory -InternalUrl "https://abc.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync" –ExternalUrl "https://abc.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync"
Run below command to change the autodiscover url
Get-ClientAccessServer –Identity “2013 Server name” | Set-ClientAccessServer –AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri “https://abc.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml”

Is this an Outlook crash issue?
We may suspect there’s a 3rd-party add-ins that may be the possible reason, let's troubleshoot this from running Outlook in Safe Mode, to determine if it is 3rd-party add-ins related.
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
We can also perform a clean boot to determine if background programs are interfering with Outlook:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135#appliesto
The ntdll.dll file is a file created by Microsoft that has a description of "NT Layer DLL" and is the file that contains NT kernel functions.
You may try to copy this file from a well worked machine and replace the old one to test if this helps.

Unable to connect to Exchange 2013 using Outlook 2010/2013 with latest patch
Dear All,
I'm setting up Exchange 2013 CU2 coexist with Exchange 2010 SP3. Since we are still planning and testing, the internet is still pointing to 2010 for send/receive mails.
The 2013 environment are:-
2 X CAS server with MS NLB configured
2X MBX server with DA
Internal NLB/licent access: excas2013.int.my.domain
External access (current set on 2010 as well): webmail.my.domain
Certificate with valid subject name has been import to 2013 and 2010:
CN: webmail.mydomain
SAN: excas2013.int.my.domain
SAN: excas.int.my.domain (for 2010)
I am able to connect to my Exchange 2010 user thru 2013 CAS server and proxy to exhcnage 2010 by outlook. However, I cannot connect to Exchange 2013 user by outlook. During mail profile create of Exchange 2013 user by autodiscover (pointed to exchange 2013),
the process looks good:-
Establish network connection (checked)
Searching for [email protected] server settings (checked)
Log on to server
The process stop at "Log on to server" and a windows prompt, saying:
The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
Clicked OK, I can see:-
MS Exchange Server:
[email protected]
Mailbox:
=SMPT:[email protected]
WHen I click "Check Name", it said The name cannot be resolved.
I have no idea of what is going on. Just want some help~I have checked the iis log:-
