VZ iphone: Data plans?  wifi?

What are the available plans from Verizon? I thought I saw an unlimited data plan for $30 per month. Is that on top of the phone plan? How much would that be?
How does the data plan work? If I go to a fancy website, or if someone sends a large image in an email, it eats at the amount of data I'm alloted?
Can iPhone work on Wifi? I most often use my iPod Touch at home, via Wifi and I'm happy to continue doing that, only using the 3G when I'm out and about. Is that resonable?

The chosen data plan if more than one data plan is available to choose from including an unlimited data plan, this is in addition to and on top of your chosen calling and messaging plan. More than likely Verizon will not have special calling plans just for the iPhone. As with AT&T, more than likely you choose from any of Verizon's standard calling plans which are the same regardless the phone, and your chosen messaging plan and data plan are in addition to and on top of your chosen calling plan.

When connected to Verizon's cellular network for internet access, yes, and only if you choose a data plan that is not unlimited if such a data plan will be available. If you choose the unlimited data plan, no, but even the unlimited data plan has a limit - 5GB per month I believe, which would be difficult to exceed or come close to in a month.

Yes.

  • Another question?  Is 2G iPhone data plan lower than 3G iPhone data plan?

If I take a 2G iPhone into AT&T and get it set up, is the data plan rate for 200 text messages and internet lower than the 3G iPhone data plan rate. I know the 3G in $30 + $5 (200 text messages) = $35. What would it be for the 2G?
    Thanks...
(I want to give my wife my 2G to replace her flip phone and get me a new 3G)

The First Generation iPhone is $20 for Unlimited Data and includes 200 SMS text messages, You can add more to the plan but it will be an additional cost. For $40 total you get Unlimited Text and Data usage.

  • Another Verizon (Iphone) Data Plan Rip off!

Once again Verizon is trying to rip off their customers by giving them no choice when it comes to data plans if you want an Iphone. Just like they tried to force data plans on Feature Phones last year, now if you want an Iphone you must spend $29.99 a month. Thats great if you spend all day on your phone, but some of us don't want unlimited data. We do want an Iphone though. That's the way to take care of your customers VERIZON!!!!

Dueceko131 don’t pay attention to those two clowns. Just because the $30 dollar plan works for them doesn’t mean it works for everyone. To make a statement that if you want a 150mb plan then you don’t need a smartphone just goes to show how little common sense they have. Must be they haven’t heard of WiFi. If the unlimited works for you great, but there are a lot of other people out there that will just be wasting money. Looks like verizon has a couple of fanboys here.
KUDOS to ktm250.... I am sick of the fanboys!! They are getting old and annoying !!!!!
I for one know I only need 150mb and want the iphone because of the great screen and its functions. I own a itouch and a ipad and manage them greatly with only wifi. I just always wished my itouch would be able to make a call so I don't have to carry both the itouch and a cell phone. Well here is my chance.. A iphone. But I an not able to pay extra for a $30 data package.

  • Can you use your Iphone as a wifi-hub for Ipad?

Is it possile to buy the Ipad2 wifi and then use your Iphone Data plan to connect your ipad to 3G network? Therefore using my iphone as a wifi-hub for the Ipad instead of paying for another data plan?

Absolutely you can do this.  If you have iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 and your carrier offers a tethering plan, you can certainly use that to give your iPad a wifi hotspot anywhere you have 3G service.  AT&T offers tethering.  There is additional cost and for anyone who had an ulimited data plan with AT&T, they will have to give up the unlimited option and agree to a capped data plan.  Currently, that option costs $45/month and includes (I believe) 4GB of data/month.

  • Hi. I have an iPhone 4 and no data plan.  When I'm not connected to wifi I don't receive iMessages, but later when I do connect to wifi, I get them telling me they were sent earlier. I don't remember how long this has been happening.  Any Help?

Hi. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS7 and no data plan. When I am not connect to wifi I don't receive iMessages, but then when I do connect to wifi I get the messages telling me they were sent earlier.  Is there any thing I can do to fix it?  I don't remember how long this has been happening but it is very frustrating. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!!!

If you don't have a cellular data plan, then why are you expecting that you will have an active internet connection unless you are connected to wi-fi?
iMessages require either wi-fi or a cellular data connection.

  • I have an iPhone with an unlimited data plan. Is there a way to go online with a wifi only iPad using my phone for access?

I have an iPhone with an unlimited data plan. Is there a way to go online with a wifi only iPad using my phone for access?

If your iPhone cell carrier allows you to use Tethering, you can turn your iPhone into a wifi hotspot, then your iPad Air can connect to that for internet access.  Not all cell carriers allow tethering without you signing up for additional fees/services.  For example, AT&T in the US still has grandfathered "unlimited" data plans, but they do not allow tethering for those plans.  With AT&T you need to switch to a Mobile Share plan (or a tiered plan if still available) to use tethering (legally).

  • Does the iPhone 4s need a data plan inorder for "siri" to work or can you just use your local wifi?

Does the iPhone 4s need a data plan inorder for "siri" to work or can you just use your local wifi?

It can use both in all the commercials they are using wifi im trying to find out just how much Siri depends on data but so far I think it mainly uses it to pull info up and for some reason to dictate email but it does work on carrier data I guess it's just slower  so you don't neccersarily need a data plan in place or have to dig into it to use Siri If you have wifi close by

Yes it will connect like the iPad, the point is, most iPhone supported carrier do not have phone plan without cellular data. You can choose a plan with minimal cellular data.

Not true. If it is official unlock by the carrier the iPhone was locked to, it will not re-lock.

  • If I have an I phone and I just bought an iPad 2 64 g, and 3 g, do I have to have a data plan or can it pick up wifi from my iPhone ?

If I just bought an iPad 2 64 gz, 3G , do I have to buy a data plan, or can it pick up the wifi from my 3G I phone?

If your phone carrier supports it (and it may be an additional fee/subscription) then you should be able to use the iPhone as a personal hotspot for the iPad : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4517

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.

  • Is there any way to have an ipad wifi 3G but not use the 3G (therefore avoiding the extra data plan costs) and just use the wifi?

i am looking to buy an ipad 2 or the new ipad (preferably 32gb) but dont want to buy the 3G version as i have unlimited data usage in my mobile phone plan, i know the wifi only ipad is generally cheaper, but i was wondering if there was a way to buy the ipad with 3G capabilities but not use the 3G and avoid the cost of paying the extra unnecessary data plan? (I know this is a really weird question but i have the opportunity to buy a 3G ipad and was curious of the possibility? any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers

    Yes to your questions.

If you want an iPad 2 32GB it will have to be a refurb model. The only new iPas 2 is 16GB.

  • Iphone 4s-when wifi is off and I am away from my home connection can I receive and send texts and text messages?  I want to keep my wifi off to limit data (email etc) to when I want to check it.  Cellular is roaming"voice only" it says. Can I get texts?

When my wifi is off and I'm away from my home connection - it shows wifi off (unless I turn it on to check my email etc.) - and in the settings cellular it shows "voice only". Will I be able to receive and send texts in those settings?  Or check voicemail.  I had wanted to keep my email from coming in all the time and only want to check it periodically - so I turn ON my wifi when I want to check my email.  But when my wifi was off away from home- I hadn't seemed to be getting my texts.  So- do I need to keep wifi roaming connected when away from home to receive and send my texts in real time.  (which is what I want) or am I still able to send and receive texts with my wifi off when I'm away from home.  (When I'm home I am connected to my home data plan automatically through wifi and I get texts when I'm home - but I'm thinking I'm not getting texts in real time - is it because my wifi is off when I'm away from home?  My cellular shows voice only when my wifi is off away from home.  Am I doing it right to receive and send texts away from home?  Or do I need to open up the wifi in order to receive and send text messages.  I know that I would need to turn on wifi roaming - which will use data - for email checking or sending - as well as to use browsing apps and now I'm guessing to receive voice messages I may have missed?  So do I need wifi on to receive texts too?  Thank you - GregorySC

    Hello GregorySC,
In order to send and receive SMS or MMS messages, you will need to have an active cellular data or Wi-Fi connection.
You will need these to send and receive iMessages:
An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    iOS 5.0 or later
A cellular data connection or a Wi-Fi connection
A phone number or Apple ID registered with iMessage in Settings > Messages

  • Order iPhone 5s online and do unlimited data plan swap later?

Forgive me if this question has already been asked:
I'm looking to upgrade to 5s (from Droid incredible).  I have unlimited data plan. My wife has a flip phone and will stay with dumb phone.  We are both eligible for an upgrade, and are planning to do the swap described elsewhere where she gets the smart phone and a data plan with her upgrade, I get the dumb phone with my upgrade, and then we trade phones and she cancels the data plan.
Question is: can this be accomplished (or more likely started) by reserving the iphone 5s online instead of going to a store?  Is it as simple as ordering the phone for her number through the Verizon website (or Apple's?), and then once it arrives, heading to the Verizon store for all the swapping and purchase of new flip phone?
Thanks to anyone who an help!  In the end, I don't need the iphone immediately.  But would hate to haves to wait too long, and concerned about stock levels and driving all over town chasing phones.

Ann154 is correct. That will not work.
This is what I would do: Upgrade to the iPhone on your wife's line. You can order it online and activate it right through My Verizon online when it comes to your house. You must activate it on her line first to accept the contract terms and conditions.
Do NOT use your line to upgrade to a basic phone; buy your wife a basic phone off contract. You can find them reasonably priced on many retail and auction sites.
Move the iPhone to your line, which keeps its unlimited data, and activate the off-contract basic phone on your wife's line.

  • If I buy a used iPhone 4 without a data plan will the GPS work?

I live in Canada and am a complete newbie when it comes to cell phones and data plans. I am not interested in having or paying for cellular telephone capability.
I've been using the 64 Gb iPod Touch 4 but detest its 0.7 Mb still camera and bemoan its lack of GPS.
Now that the iPhone 4S has been released, there are many folks selling their older iPhone 4s. I'd love to use one of these older iPhone units with their better camera and GPS capability, but don't want to pay for a data plan, nor am I willing to pay $850 for an unlocked iPhone 4S. I'm happy to continue using wireless internet and don't need a cell phone.
Being a newbie when it comes to data plans and cell phones, if I purchase a used iPhone 4 from someone:
    1. Does it need a SIM card (activated or not) to use the GPS on it? If yes, must a deactivated SIM card be provided by the seller or where can I obtain one?
    2. Does the iPhone 4 need to be on a cellular plan to use the GPS?
    3. I can use a deactivated iPhone 4 on WiFi only as I've been doing with the iPod Touch 4, correct?
    4. If I can use a deactivated, non-contract iPhone 4 on WiFi only, will the GPS work and allow me to use GPS-enabled apps? If yes, does it somehow still "tie"into available local cell networks to achieve a position without me paying for (or being registered for) cellular access?
    5. Can future iOS upgrades (say to iOS5) still be performed on a deactivated iPhone 4 without a cell plan?
    6. Do I need to purchase the iPhone 4 from a Canadian seller given my above questions? What other questions do I need to ask of the seller when looking for a used iPhone 4?
Thanks in advance for any help with my newbie questions!

Thanks for that, Paulfromwallasey. I live in a rural area without many cell towers and with WiFi only in my home. I do use offline maps (topographical and street maps) on my iPod Touch 4 outdoors (not needing a signal, WiFi or cellular). I also have a hand-held Garmin GPS receiver but would rather use the GPS in the iPhone (its positional accuracy, while likely being lower than that obtained from my Garmin, is likely sufficient for my needs).
I guess that one of the questions that I was asking is if I were to purchase a used iPhone 4 from someone, and the SIM card have been removed, would the device's GPS still work with GPS-enabled apps (albiet without the cellular-assist)?
Can any pay-as-you-go SIM card be purchased for and used in a deactivated iPhone4? Would this even be necessary for the GPS?
    Thanks again.
