W2k Designer 6i release 2 and Linux 8.1.7

It seems that the Designer 6i is specificly designed for Oracle 8i 8.1.6 and Not 8.1.7 which is the version that I have up and running. is there any work arounds that will allow me co connect to the Linux 8.1.7 with out haveing to install(multihome) a 8.1.6 version of oracle 8i???? Im trying to use a kiss principle on my systems as I am not very strong in Oracle yet? But, Im working on it....
Eric

Designer 6i Release 2 is certified against Oracle 8.1.7 ! See release notes. I'm running Designer 6i R2 without problem on Oracle 8.1.7.

    Hello,
Just a quick question: can we have an official position from Sun regarding support of earlier releases of Solaris with Java RTS 2.1? Our customer is currently running Solaris 10 Update 3 with current Recommended patches, and the 2.1 beta cyclic driver supported this version of Solaris. However with the official release version of 2.1, support for U3 disappeared (only U4 and U5 are now supported). Aside from "rubber stamping" the Solaris build via /etc/release, is there a technical reason why U3 is no longer supported? As long as our kernel is up to date, can we safely use 2.1? Or is it just a case of being unable to officially support and test so many releases of Solaris?
Is this a general rule-of-thumb we can expect in future: only supporting the last 2 updates of Solaris 10?
    Your advice is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

The error indicates that the password (or wallet) files oidpwdldap1 and oidpwdr<ORACLE_SID> do NOT exist under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin or your $ORACLE_HOME and $PATH are set incorrectly (a bit unlikely).
Assuming that the $ORACLE_HOME and $PATH are indeed set to correct values, if the 2 files mentioned above do not exist under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin, then perform the below action plan:
    1. Set the ORACLE_HOME to INFRASTRUCTURE ORACLE_HOME
    2. set the PATH to $ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/ldap/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin:$PATH
    3. Ensure that you are able to login to sqlplus as "ods" user.
    4. If you do NOT know the password of ods user, then reset the password.
    5. Run the below command and enter the ods password when prompted for it.
    oidpasswd create_wallet=true
    6. Voila! The Wallet files are created under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin.

  • Designer 6i Release 2 : Client

i downloaded Designer 6i Release 2 from technet. i am now reading the Installation Guide and it seems that for the 'Client and Server on separate machines' configurations they support, the client can only have Windows NT or 2000. i only have Windows 98 on my laptop and a 8.1.6 database on a Linux box on the office network. is it therefore a lost cause ?
    thanks,
    Briti

    Hi,
I (think) it's possible to install the client on Windows 98 (but this is not a supported configuration).
You should see the "Known Problems and Restrictions" section in the Release notes:
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/designer/doc_library/6i_release2/deshlp72/des2k_relnotes/rn_des_6i.htm
The Repository will work fine on an 8.1.6 Oracle Linux installation.

  • Designer 6i Release 2 makes Oracle 8.1.7 installation impossible!!!

    Hi,
Designer 6i Release 2 makes Oracle 8.1.7 installation impossibleon Windows 2000 Server!!!
After I uninstalled Designer 6i Rel2 through the Oracle Installer and then manually deleted all the left directories and Oracle registry entries I found HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ALL_HOMES\ID0\"\Registry Backup" entries that are not removable! Designer documentation says it's OK and that it won't do any harm. But it does! I have absolutely "Oracle free" machine, and why I try install Oracle 8.1.7, Oracle Installer pops up and after I click on "install products" closes and nothing happens.
    Please, help me:
    1) delete these registry entries;
    2) maybe there are some dlls I need to delete in order to make Oracle 8.1.7 work.
P.S. I have to mention that Oracle Forms developer 6i Rel 2 was installed on top of the Designer in the same home (only Client Forms and Reports). But I cleaned up everything as described erlier.
I think, it is critical not only for me to solve this problem ASAP.
    Thank you.

    Hello guys
I had this problems for weeks, I could not reinstall Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server with the Universal Installer, it was all the time frozing after the splash screen. In my registry, I found the unremovable oracle entries (3) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ALL_HOMES\ID0\"\Registry Backup". Here is what I did to clean (sort of) the registry. By the way, reinstalling Win2K was out of the question.
I download Resplendence Registar 2.03 from http://www.resplendence.com. I made a binary backup of my registry using RR. Then I edit the backup with an hex editor (I use textpad from http://www.textpad.com). I search for the oracle entries (ORACLE in uppercase), found two. I replace them with ZZZZZZ. I saved the file and restored the registry with RR. Now, I have a ZZZZZZ unremovable entry, but it does not interfere with the Oracle Universal Installer. I was then able to reinstall Oracle 8.1.7 and Designer6i.
Now, I have a new problem. I have two oracle home
    OEE with Oracle8i EE 8.1.7
    ORANT with Oracle Designer6i
When I try to connect to my remote database Oracle8i EE 8.1.6 on Linux with SQL*Plus 8.1.7 everything is OK. But when I try to connect using SQL*Plus 8.0.6 that comes with Designer6i I get the error ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure. The config files tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora are the same on both oracle homes. If you have any clues, please let me known, I'm out of them.
PS After 12 years working with Oracle products, this is my worst year. The product development it totally out of control. The products are huge, buggy, incomplete and incompatible. I hope we will survive this storm :o)

    Hello Shyam,
I am pretty new with this Integration - Agile 9.2.2.4 & Oracle EBS 12.1.1 . I have just gone through the Installation Guide for Oracle Application Integration Architecture 2.2. I have started downloading the necessary products from E-Delivery.
I am planning to install everything from scratch on windows 2003. With your experience could you give me some tips (do's & do-not's, right version, patches, sequence) that I should consider during the installation process?

  • Oracle Designer6i Release 4 and Oracle9i Unable to add user to Repository

    Dear all,
I am currently using Oracle9i with Oracle Designer6i Release 4. Before I am able to use both Release 4 and Release 2 with Oracle9i. However, this time when I install it after a cleanup in my server. I have received the following error message when allowing a user to use repository using RAU:

    Hi
I had exactly the same error and managed to get rid of it by deinstalling and reinstalling the client and the server with the patch (2083057) from metalink (I had previously used this patch for upgrade). There was no problem with user creation.
However, I get the same error when I try to do anything with the repository, such as, create an object. So, this is really of no help. Sorry.
Have you managed to get the installation going????
Is there anyone who has Designer 6i functioning (even partially) with Oracle 9i on a windows platform, or for that matter any platform??

  • How to install downloaded Oracle Forms Developer/Services 6i Release 2 for linux

    Hi folks,
    I downloaded d2k6irelease2.tar (Oracle Forms Developer/Services 6i Release
    2 for linux) from
    http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/forms/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
I untar the file on my linux machine however the extracted files don't
seem to contain any installing program. I didn't find products.jar in the
files and there are no script to install the software. I read the attached
doc, however it only assumes that the installation is from CD-ROM. The doc
doesn't help anything for this downloaded software. I wonder if anyone
here know how to install it. Thank you so much.
    Best regards,
    Kai Huang

There should be a text based installer in the /orainst sub-
    directory
In that directory, just run the script:
    ./orainst
The installer seems to require libXm.a, which wasn't included in
my RH 7.1 installation, so I had to install the motif-
development libraries before the full install would complete
    successfully.

  • Crystal Reports XI Release 2 and Service Pack 2 upgradation

    Hi,
I need your support to upgrade and migrate to Crystal Reports XI Release 2 and Service Pack 2 in my development server.
I am currently upgrading my Crystal enterprise version 9 with the Crystal Reports XI Release 2 and Service Pack 2. I have the below questions to be clarified. Appreciate if you can reply me ASAP. Thanks.
    My Environment:
    O/S - Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition; Version 5.2 (Build 3790); Service Pack - 1
    RAM size - 1 GB
Installed software - Crystal enterprise 9
    1) After successfully upgraded with the XI version, all my current user accounts and existing reports are not available in the upgraded version. Pl. suggest me, how to migrate my existing connections and all the existing reports?
    2) In my server, SQL Server is not installed. But SQL Server instance (SQL Server 7.00.623) is running in my taskbar (desktop). If I stopped the SQL Server instance, the "Crystal APS" in the Crystal Configuration Manager is stopped. What information is stored in the SQL Server?
    3) What is the default SQL server version bundled with Crystal Reports XI Release 2 Service Pack 2? What is the SQL server version you recommand?
    4) Will the Crystal Reports XI Release 2 SP2 supports the SQL Server 7.00.623?
    Regards
    Sanrajesh

    Hello, Sanrajesh,
You have been using Crystal Enterprise 9.0 and now you are installing Crystal Reports XI R2. Is that correct?
Crystal Reports XI R2 is just the Crystal Reports designer and runtime for development.
Crystal Reports XI R2 does not have the functionality of Crystal Enterprise. The upgrade would be Crystal Enterprise 9.0 to Business Objects Enterprise XI R2. (11.5)
A full BusinessObjects Enterprise installation will install the appropriate MS SQL Server for it's own use.
Will this be the Enterprise server or just the Development system to create an application connecting to your BusinessObjects Enterprise server?
What development language will you be programming in?
If you have BusinessObjects Enterprise installed elsewhere you only need the appropriate development components on your system and connect to the server in code.
Our BusinessEnterprise Support team would assist you in the upgrade from Crystal Enterprise 9 to Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 if that was your plan.
Then we could discuss the development requirements.

  • Please help locate Designer 6i Release 2  for Windows NT/2000/XP on OTN!

    Hi,
Our Oracle Designer 6i Release 2 for Windows NT/2000/XP CD is damaged.
Is there a ZIP file for Oracle Designer 6i Release 2 for Windows NT/2000/XP
exist on OTN? Please provide the URL.
    Thanks for your help.

Are you sure that you want 6i R2? R2 as I remember is pretty buggy. You really ought to upgrade to at least 6i R4.11. Given that you are already on 6i, this is a fairly painless upgrade.
And the only reason that I wouldn't go ahead and upgrade to Designer 10g is if you are still supporting Oracle Forms in client/server mode.

  • Release strategy and code authorizations

    Hi,
We need to create a new release strategy for PO.  After setting strategy, we are assigning existing release codes A1 and A2 to strategy.  The same release code is also used in existing release strategy.
Now, will this create any authorization issue if we assign same release codes to different strategies, and different users in user roles.
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hi,
I am confused with your requirement. When you have a business requirement to control the release, may be a new department created or new character value requires for adding to release process.
Option-1:--- >When you decided to create new release strategy, you should have gone for creating new release codes & design your release process with new release strategy with new release codes. Do not use same release codes, use different release codes for new release strategy which will be easy to control for authorization based on respective users.
Option-2:--- > When you added a new release characteristic to release class based on requirement, then check assignment of release group to release class ( just make change & TR need to be transported),release strategy design which trigger on how release is to be affected & which manner with a logic. Also check the new value you are entering with your release class, release group & release strategy in Cl20N/CL24N t.codes. Also check during creation of new release characteristic, you have values with correct field name.

  • Error installing Oracle Designer/SCM Release 9.0.2.6 patch

    Hi.
I am trying to install Oracle Designer/SCM Release 9.0.2.6 patch. I've already installed Oracle 9i Forms and Reports 9.0.2.1.0 (patch 2705870) and 9.0.2.3.0 (patch 3129219). The Oracle Installer version is 2.2.0.18.0, but when I try to install Designer/SCM Release 9.0.2.6.0, which uses Oracle Installer version is 2.3.0.0.0, I get the following error in my hs_err log file:
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
