Good day and welcome to the community.
You can look in the FRU Parts List (last page):
http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/w530_fru_list_20131007.pdf
to see the spectrum of parts that were configured in the W530.
You may be able to tell which part was in your machine's factory build by visiting the Parts Lookup page:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page
Hope this helps a bit.
Regards.

  • W530 display "crash"

I have a brand new W530.  Once or twice a day,  the monitor display goes beserk.  The screen begins flashing bright pastel colors which alternate in rapid succession -- this is kind of like watching an anime cartoon.  Occaisionally, instead of doing that, it just blue screens.  I have downloaded and installed the latest video drivers from Lenvoo.
Assuming it to be something wrong with the video card, I sent it to Lenovo support.  They were, however, unable to verify any problem.  The seems to be some correlation with physically moving the machine.  This often occurs when I am setting down the laptop, adjusting the flip up monitor angle, bumping the battery, etc.  That's not always the case.  There are some times when it just happens by itself when I'm working.
Interestingly, I had a loaner computer when my 530 was being serviced.  In the 2 weeks I had the loaner, the same phenominon happened twice.  That's much less frequently, but it still happened.  I was using the same hard drive in both machines when this has occured.
Has anyone else in the community experienced this?  Quite annoying. Makes the laptop almost unusable.

I have this problem too. It seems to be nothing to do with overheating or static. It always occurs when the machine receives a physical knock/nudge, for example, if I move it or accidentally knock the edge of the machine.
I have more than one monitor plugged into my laptop. When this problem occurs it only effects the laptop screen, not the other monitors. this shows that the problem is not with the system crashing, but with the screen itself.
I think that the problem may be related to a loose connection between the screen and the main part of the laptop, as suggested in this thread, which seems to describe a similar problem: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/ThinkPad-W530-Blank-Screen-Weird-Colorful-scre...

Ensure that your BIOS, Power Manager, GPU driver have been updated to the latest version available. Check Link
Right click on Desktop and select "Graphic Properties"
    Select Power
    Select Power Feature
In Graphics Power Plan Settings, change drop down menu to "On Battery"
    Uncheck "Display Power Saving Technology"
    Press "OK"

  • W530 Display Problem

Newb here.  I just purchased a W530 running Windows 7 and it appears to have a defective display which flashes/flickers/jumps, etc. and is unstable.  This happens randomly but is becoming more frequent after a week of use.  I can't seem to find the right channels to pursue warranty repair/replacement.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thank you.

    Hi quasimodo,
Sorry to hear that your W530 has problems right out of the box. There are probably issues related to the display itself, display cables, or graphics chips. Also, what do you mean by not being able to find the correct channels for warranty? The phone number for customer support for Thinkpads is 1-800-426-7378. Make sure to have your serial # and model information with you (they are located in the BIOS page of the laptop, and on the box the laptop shipped in).
    Best regards,
    Brian

  • Thinkpad W530 display hurts my eyes

    Hi,
The FHD screen on my W530 hurts me eyes because it has a reddish tint.
I've sent the laptop back to Lenovo twice already, no luck at all. They claimed that they could not find the problem, and ended up replacing the LCD each time.
I've tried all the methods listed here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo/695861-t-w530-fhd-color-profile.html
    http://njekin.blogspot.com/2013/11/calibrating-fhd-wide-gamut-lcd-of.html
and followed the precise instructions to load each color profile, but nothing has changed. I have no idea what to do right now, except send the laptop back for the third time.
Unfortunately, it's been more than 21 days since I bought the laptop, so I can't get a refund. This has pretty much forced me to use my W530 exclusively with a monitor.
I took screenshots so you can see the difference between my w530 screen (bad) and my x120 screen (normal).

    Thinkpad W530 w/ Core i7 3740QM, Quadro K1000m, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 1080p FHD Display

The PWM frequency of the W530's display may not be as high as that of your external monitor. AFAIK, the default frequency is around 220 Hz. I find that to be grossly lacking, so I cranked mine up to 1000 Hz.
The exe takes a commandline argument in Hz from 50 to 1050. So you'd have to execute it from commandline. I have a batchfile set up as follows to make life easier, and have it set up as a startup command.
    @echo off
    if "%PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%"=="AMD64" goto 64BIT
    start IntelPWMControl_x86.exe 1050
    goto END
    :64BIT
    start IntelPWMControl_x64.exe 1050
    :END
    timeout /t 2 /nobreak > NUL
    taskkill /f /im IntelPWMControl_x86.exe
    taskkill /f /im IntelPWMControl_x64.exe
    exit
Interestingly, your picture shows signs of PWM even at max brightness (on the W520). The X120e may or may not be showing PWM at all; I can't tell if those are really wide bars or just a reflection. The width of the bars indicates frequency; really wide bars means low frequency, really narrow bars means high frequency.
Out of curiosity, do you get the same eyestrain with older CRT monitors?

  • W530 display brigtness changes

Have recently updated to new nivdia drivers (from nvidia website 605.93)  and intel drivers from Windows Update.
Now I'm seeing the brightness of the screen nearly constantly changing, not by a huge amount, but it seems to be going up and down.
    Any ideas please?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had the same issue. It is terribly annoying. I found this on a Google search and it solved the issue for me:
open intel control center, click on intel HD graphics on the right hand side, in the silly blue window go to "power" on the left side, then click "power source", change to "battery", and down below in "power conservation features" you'll find the culprit. It's called "display power saving technology". Un-check it and click apply. Your display will "normalize" itself if you do it on battery. On AC you won't notice anything.

  • W530 - Display Backlight Bug

Hi,I use an external monitor with my laptop. On resuming, Windows automatically detects the monitor and switches to it using Projector Mode*. That works for me, however, the laptop's backlight remains lit at its regular brightness level. I sidestepped this bug via a batch file that switches to Extend Mode* and switches back to Projector Mode, but is there an actual fix available? (*As seen in the Win+P menu)

Are you saying it is always off? Sudden backlight failure is usually a blown motherboard fuse.

  • W530 - "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" not working

My W530 displays the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" message on startup.  If I press Enter, I hear a beep and a message comes up indicating that a menu will be displayed, but Windows 8 starts loading shortly afterwards. When I see the message, I can press F1 to get to the BIOS, F10 for Diagnostics or F12 for a Boot menu, but for some reason enter doesn't work.  I've tried several things, including using Recovery DVDs received from Lenovo to wipe the system (including formatting all drives), but still no luck. When I originally received the machine, the "enter" key would bring up a menu, but I have screwed something up and even a full recovery from Lenovo DVDs didn't help.   I run Windows 8 and after receiving the machine used the Create System Image feature (which I had used many times in Windows 7), but a subsequent restore didn't go well and that is when the "enter" stopped working on startup. Any thoughts on how to fix this?  I'm at a loss to understand how the full Recovery DVD process didn't fix it. Thanks.

  • URGENT: Need to stop screen flicker (PWM) on T420s with IntelPWMControl

I see other users have managed to use this program 'IntelPWMControl' to stop their LCD screen from flickering (PWM) on their machines with intel HD graphics:
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycKzTDnTYTQ
Another useful thread, outlines how to do this
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Thinkpad-W530-display-hurts-my-eyes/td-p/13892...
I tried the said link (from the above thread), but on my T420s (Windows 7 x64), it doesn't run at all. In fact it says something about a C++ Exception. I have tried Intel HD drivers from 2013 and 2012 which are purported to work, but nothing seems to.
Can anyone running this, confirm which windows version and driver they are using?
I need to fix this ASAP as I rely on my T420s for work on a daily basis and it's giving me bad headaches...

I'm running 9.17.10.4101 right now and it works fine.
I recall getting that C++ assertion error or something at some point, but don't quite recall how I fixed it.
If you right-click the EXE, and go to the Run with Graphics Processor submenu, is it defaulting to the discrete or integrated card?

  • N200 Which Drivers for a clean install?

Laptop is an n200 0769-eug. Windows Vista Label - XP Pro install.
This Laptop developed an issue and refused to boot into windows. Attempts to use the recovery program resulted in even the recovery program disappearing! Using the Lenovo button just results in a cycle of restarting without ever getting anywhere.
So I formated C: and did a fresh install of XP. (No recovery discs were available)
Now at least it boots to windows desktop.
Now I need to install all the drivers. Trouble is which ones and in which order.
Entering the serial no on the lenovo site produces a list of drivers but there are different options for some eg Intel video or nvidia video, and a choice of three different wireless drivers.

So how do I know which drivers to install and in which order?
    spoiler added
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Here is your driver page:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67855
    You have Intel graphics chipset.
I usually install in this order:
    Chipset driver  (Intel inf)
    System Interface Driver
    Graphics
    Audio
    Lan
Wireless Lan ( Intel Wireless LAN (abg))
    Card Reader
    Touchpad
    Modem
    Bluetooth
Power Management  (If it is not working correctly)
    Hotkey Utility
Fingerprint Reader (if you have one)
Others as you see fit. (Usb Registry Patch, Wake on Lan, PC DR, System Toolbox)
When you open the downloaded file, it will unpack into a folder.
Pay attention to the instructions that should pop up after unpacking!
    Reboot after each driver install.
This would be my strategy for a clean install.
I hope it works for you!

  • T400 LCD Screen Replacement -

    Hi gurus:
This concerns replacement of LCD Screen on my 14" T400 Laptop, which i'd purchased on Jan 14 2009.

    Usage:
    ** Very light usage; 2-3 hrs/week;
** Used this as a standby for my work laptop.
** Sparingly used for pretty much anything.
** I am very disappointed with this laptop and all through its performance and battery life has been very sluggish. (1 hr battery at the most).
    >> Runs very slow even with Vista/XP downgrade
    Problem:

Is there any extended warranty for the LCD screens? Any advise over where to buy from?
    Regards,

    Hi Rich:
    Thanks for your reply.
    * I tried connecting the VGA cable to my LCD Monitor/TV, but i do not see any output after selecting the Secondary Display.
    * When i boot up the Machine, the LCD does not blink/flicker e.t.c, but i can see that the regular bootup is happening as i look at the Hard Drive light and it keeps flickering.
    * How do i check the LCD sub card? I am assuming its the panel because the LED Light on top of the Screen seems to turn on.
    * Yes i have only the 1 year warranty.
    >> My previous Dell Inspiron which had the same warranty term lasted about 4 years and only gave up because of the Motherboard.
I personally bought a Thinkpad thinking it was reliable, but this is quite bad, especially for a sparingly used laptop.

  • Run FOUR 2560 x 1440 displays from W530?

    Hi all,
I have a setup most folks don't see every day, but it serves me well.  I find myself in need of updating it, though.
    CURRENT setup:
W530 laptop with 32GB and the NVidia Quadro K2000M card
    Sitting in a 4338 dock
Four (4) HP 24" LCD displays, each running at 1920x1200
Displays 1 & 2 are connected directly to the dock using the two DVI ports on it
    Displays 3 & 4 are connected to a Targus USB 3.0 adapter.
    What I want:
Four of these (or something similar) displays at the full 2560 x 1440 resolution
So...  I guess the first question is...  Can this be done with this laptop and this dock?  If so, the second question is...  What do I need?  I have scoured these forums and Google and found a great deal of info that is close, but nothing I can find has made me think anyone else is running 4 displays at this resolution.  I know my current Targus adapter won't support that resolution.  Help!
If the W530 won't do this, would a W540?  And would a W540 work with this dock?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Chris
PS.  I don't game.  This is purely for the office.  I just need a lotta screen real estate.  I will watch a video every now and then, but this is 99.9% for typical office use.

As to whether it would work, or how well it would work, I don't think anycould could really say as you are likely to be the first person to attempt this particular configuration.

    Hi again, everyone!  Well...
It worked!  Two Samsungs connected directly to the dock, each via DP; then one each connected to a StarTech USB32DPPRO.  10,240 pixels of super high-definition glory.

  • W530 RAM and Display

I just purchased a new W530. It is scheduled to be delivered soon, and I am trying to order a RAM upgrade (16GB 2x8GB sticks) and display cable/adapter for when it arrives.
I have looked at a few RAM threads, and wonder if the best buy here is the Corsair Vengeance RAM or the Crucial RAM. The Corsair is cheaper, but I wonder if it is inferior. If the Corsair is OK, is there a reason to order this from Newegg:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233265
rather than any of the order Corsair products?
Also, I am used to a Sony laptop that has HDMI out to go into my external monitor with HDMI in. How will I best hook teh W530 to an HDMI capable monitor (that has speakers in it)?
    Thanks

I use the StarTech.com DP2HDMI2 DisplayPort to HDMI Video Adapter Converter
It works great for my W520 (also for audio).

Edit: Ooops, I believe that the W530 has a mini-Display Port - please ignore the above for the W530
Perhaps this will work for the W530:

  • W530 - 4 display question

Reviewing the Lenovo website, I see it is advertised that the W530 can drive 4 displays. The mini-dock ad says it can handle any two displays. It is my guess that that 2 displays can be driven from the dock, and two from the W530 itself.
Is this correct? I would like to know for sure before I buy.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

depending on the dock you have. You can drive 3 external monitors from the dock, by connecting two of the LCD to the DVI/DP ports, and another one from the vga port.
Your 4 th monitor should run from the internal LCD or the displayport on the laptop itself.
