Wacky image sequence issue - flickers

Hi guys,
I've created a simple 2 image sequence I wanted to play through at the top of my DPS document - but when I preview the article (on both desktop, iphone and ipad) the image sequence fails..
I took a quick screencap to show what Im going.
DPS Image Sequence issue - YouTube
Any advice?

For a two-image effect, I would use a slideshow instead of an image sequence. Not sure what's causing the flicker.

    Hello,
Im having trouble dragging and dropping an image sequence folder. The folder drags in perfectly and the window even highlights but nothing happens. However when I go through FILE and IMPORT i do have success bringing in the image sequence as comp.

    > Is there anyplace to go to find known bugs with the program incase something like this arises in the future?
We often post solutions to known issues on the Technical Support part of our site.
I'll go ahead and write up a quick list of known issues in After Effects CC (12.2) with workarounds.
Regarding the update that we thought we'd be releasing this week: We ran into a problem in which one of our fixes broke something else (which is why we do the testing), and we're having to redo some things. My current estimate is that the update will not come out this week but will come out some time within the next couple of weeks. Sorry for the delay, but we need to get this right more than we need to get it out fast.
I'll post a summary of workarounds tomorrow to bridge the time between now and when the update is released.

  • QT 7.6.6 image sequence issue

    macbook pro running osx 10.9.4
shot about 800 photos (1 every 5 seconds) on my gopro.
everytime i open quicktime pro 7.6.6 and open the image sequence, it only grabs one frame. they are numbered sequentially.
i had shot 1600 photos of the sunset a few weeks ago, and it worked perfectly. selected the first image, and it loaded the rest with no issues.
now it wont do it. ive tried everything and its starting to get on my nerves.
anyone else have this issue, and if so - how do i fix it?
    thanks,
    dave

A bit more info: I looked at the network traffic with Activity Monitor. My Mac is receiving a bit-rate well above what is needed for any particular stream at the start of the stream and continues that way until around 25 seconds into the video. At that point the incoming data rate drops to around the expected level. The glitch (in Firefox 3 Mac) appears about 12 seconds into each clip.
The client Mac incoming network traffic is about the same when I play the same clip with Firefox 3 (with the glitch) and Safari(where there is no problem). The glitch occurs on every clip regardless of the bit rate, even as low as 132kbps. I'm on a 20Mbps Internet connection. The server network is fast enough to stream 1 and 2Mbps clips with little or no problems to my Windows machine or the Mac with Safari or FF2.
We are opening a QuickTime player in a smaller browser window. For some reason we are initially getting two control bars at the bottom in Firefox 3 (not in FF2 or Safari). The bottom control comes up first and has the initial "buffering" message, a speaker icon and FF/RW controls. Above that is another control bar with a speaker, play/pause, the timeline and the FF/RW controls. Interesting that this cosmetic glitch appears in the QT browser window only in FF3, the same browser with the playback glitch.
    Thanks,

  • MSO image sequence issue

    Hello,
I've been having some issues with some MSO image sequences in my article. I have a few autoplay MSO image sequences that works perfectly in the desktop viewer, but won't seem to play on the iPad. I have Adobe Content Viewer v32.4.2. The weird thing is, there are other autoplay MSO image sequence within the same article in the folio that works on the iPad without a hitch.
Is there anybody that is experiencing similar issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

hi bob, here's the screenshot of the settings in folio overlays panel:
"Show first image initially" is selected
    "Auto Play" is selected
Speed is set to 30 fps
Play is set to 1 time
"Stop at Last Image" is selected
    Thanks for responding!!

  • Image Sequence Issue

I've got some large pictures I've been asked to make into a sequence and retain as much of their quality as possible, they will be used in a PDF plan report. I started with Flash but it couldn't handle the full size images (5184x3456 - 72dpi). I've moved over to Premiere but I'm getting something weird happening when I import them in as a numbered group. They import fine but only 1 image is being shown in the preview for the complete sequence and the sequence icon in the project is a jpg icon not the little movie film icon you normally get. Any idea what might be happening?
My sequence setting in Premiere is 5184x3456 10fps. There are 17 images and I want them to play about 3 seconds each.
    Thank you for your help,
    Jenna

Don't import as an Image Sequence.
Start by going into Preferences and change Default Still Duration to 3x your intended frame rate.  (3 x 24 fps = 72, or 3 x 30 fps = 90, etc.)  Then import all your images normally.  When you bring them to the sequence, they'll be 3 seconds long.

  • IMAGE SEQUENCE ISSUES

Okay...I have sat here now for hours trying to figure this out and have gotten 0 percent closer to a resolution. I have NO CLUE what is happening and it is frustrating me. A while ago I had created a large video compiled of image sequences through tons of photos as you can see here:
    https://vimeo.com/33233916
Now I go back to create something similar and for whatever reason all of my vertical photos are being stretched to fit the screen like a horizontal image...I can't do anything to fix it. I have tried keeping the height the same for both images, the width the same, etc. I have tried different aspect ratio in programs like iStopMotion and others, however Quicktime had worked great for me in the past when creating that other one. I have no clue why my verticals are being stretched. I have about 6,000 photos I need to compile into a sequence before the end of this week and nooooo clue how to get the verticals to just fit as they do in that video I linked above...they used to just fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am currently on version 7.6.6 if that helps.

It appears that something has been altered as to the manner in which images are being added to the QT 7 Pro player window using the "Open Image Sequence..." option. Images are normally suppsed to be added using the "Fit Within..." scaling routine but instead are now being added using a "Fit To..." ("Fill") scaling routine. Since the scaling feature is automatically called by the app during the opening of the images and is not a user accessible option, there is nothing you can do until or uless Apple QT technicians fix this bug. Suggest you and any other users having this same problem post QT Feedback reports to bring the problem to Apple's attention.

  • Time-lapse and Image Sequence issue (Possibly also Frame-Rate)

So I'm in the process of making a time-lapse, and have batch edited and exported (in jpeg) 627 images.  My sequence settings are 23.976fps 1920x1080 (1080p).  Doing some quick math, 627 images at 24 frames a second should give me a little over 26 seconds.  However, I'm only getting a 20 second clip.  The settings on the clip are 29.97fps and 5184x3456 (I scale it down and use some keyframes to add some motion.)  So my question is is there a way to import an image sequence as 24 fps, rather than the default 30 that the clip is imported in?  Even when I put it the clip on the timeline and click "Keep sequence settings" it cuts it down to 501 frames, and I still only get 20 seconds worth of clip.   Thank you for your answers!

I am in PAL land so I not that familiar with ntsc but I think the difference has to do with the 23.97.
If you make a custom sequence you can set that to 24 fps exact.
Import the jpegs as an image sequence. this means select the first image, check image sequence at the bottom of the window and hit OK.
Also in the preferences under Media set the Indeterminate Media Timebase to 24.

  • Capturing image sequences - issues with nested for loops

    Hi all,
I've written a vi. to capture a specific number of images ('Image No') and save these images, outputted to a folder of my choice.  Each image is identified sequentially.  However, I wish to do a number of iterations ('Run') of this capture sequence, such that the filename of each image would be 'Filename (Run)_(Image No).png', e.g. run 5, image 10 would be 'Filename 5_10.png'.  I have tried a nested for loop for this but I receive an error 'Asynchronous I/O operation in progress' (I've attached a printscreen).
Can anyone assist me in solving this problem?  Please find attached my vi.
    Kindest regards and thanks,

You cannot create a folder if this one is already existing.
Just check that the folder exists before creating it.

  • Importing Image Sequences Issue

I have been supplied with Tiff Image Sequences rendered out of Maya. Unfortunately they do not import correctly, or in order, though their naming convention seems correct.
    EG
    ep000sq01_sh0010_compv02.0001.tif
    ep000sq01_sh0010_compv02.0002.tif
    ep000sq01_sh0010_compv02.0003.tif
When imported into QT 7.1.3 if I scroll frame by frame through the resulting QT movie there are numerous duplicate frames, dropped frames and frames out of order. This should not be due to my machine as the specs are quite sufficient [G5 DP 2GHz / OS X 10.4.8, 1 GB Ram] as compare to the QT required specs page, see http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/recommendations.html
The Tiff images are of a decent resolution [1280x720].
Also when imported into FCP 5.0.4 even if in my user preferences under the Editing tab my Still/Freeze Duration is set to 1 frame, the images in the image sequences will not import with a duration of 1 frame BUT import with a duration of 0 frames.
This all seems very buggy / conflicted for reasons unknown to me at this time.
If there are any suggestions they will be extremely welcome as time is of the essence [unfortunately].
    Thanks in advance.

I use the Animation codec and in both cases the fps selected are 25 fps.
Funnily enough, the image sequences have come from an organisaion that I assumed would have their naming conventions sorted, EG enabling easy consolidation into one QT movie or importing into FCP.
I agree with you that the naming convention may be the cause of the conflict, possibly working better if we dropped that additional "full stop" between the "2" and the first of three "0"s.

    Regardless, thanks for your advice.

  • Image sequencing issue

I shoot with two bodies. One camera shoots CR2 the other DNG. The cameras are synchronized so archived images appear in the order that they were shot—regardless of what camera they were shot on. However, I am having an issue with my current project where when I view (the entire take) through the parent folder (images are contained within in dated subfolders) they are filed by the camera they were shot on i.e all of camera 1's files first, then camera 2 (messing up my chronological sequence). This also applies when I select my flagged images through the parent folder. The two cameras' files are separated. I have no filters applied.
If I open the dated subfolders the files are sequenced correctly. Same with filtering for flagged files within the subfolder. I am only having this issue with the parent folder.
It must be something simple but I haven't been able to figure it out! Thank in advance for any suggestions.

Within your dated sub-folders you presumably have set the sort sequence to "capture time".
These settings are saved per folder.
If you do not see this, make sure you have the toolbar toggled to visible (letter T).
What is the sort order in the parent folder? "File type" or "File extension" would explain the behaviour you describe.
Try setting it to "capture time" as well. This should achieve your desired order.

  • Jumpy playback from image sequences rendered in Apple Prores and then exported to h264

I will start by saying I have been using FCP since 1.0 and am in no way new to this software, but this issue has me going crazy.
    First the Specs:
MacPro 2 x 2.66 Quad cor Intel Xeon
    16 gig Ram
    OS 10.9.2
FCP 7.0.3 (sorry but I am not a fan of FCP10 at all)
In other words, a beast of a system that has played back everything I have ever built on it for years until now. So now for the issue: I work with an amazing 3D Max builder and we have created a building animation exported from that program into and image sequence ( we have tried JPG, TGA and PNG still all with the same effect). I open Quicktime 7 Pro, build the image sequence, save as .mov, import into FCP and drop it into my 1080p30 Apple Prores (HQ ... we also tried SQ) timelines. The timeline renders perfectly and I can play the video perfectly through my system out of Firewire 800 to my Motu V4HD device which then converts the signal to HDMI to my 55" LED TV. The video and playback is perfect.... until:
If I try to play back the same exact time line into an exported video file, the file will play back with random jumpyness in it. I say random since you can play it back 10 times and it will hiccup during playback at different spots in the video. If you review every frame in the file though using Quicktime 10, 7 or VLC viewer, every frame is perfect. So, it must be the data rate right? Wrong. I have exported now to H264 MP4, M4V, MOV , ect, etc at different data rates from 4mb to 40 mb per second. They all have the same randow jumpyness to it. So it must be my computer right? Nope. I have a Macbook pro that is more powerful than this machine and I rebuild the file using the same method (something I have done a thousand times before) and the exported file does the same thing on that machine. I had my friend do it on his machine... same thing. ERRRR....
We have even tried using After Effects and Premier to the same result. Rendered it straight from Quicktime Pro, same. Rendered it to 720p30, same. Render it to 24fps, same. I had another editor render it using whatever methods he wanted to use... same. Tried Compressor, SAME.  Tried Adobe Media Encoder, SAME......We even, god forbid, used a PC running Premier and built the image sequence and rendered to h264 at 30fps, 5mbs.... @#$@#$ SAME!
We just remade the 3D Studio Max export into a 60fps animation since I thought that the individual frames we appearing too far apart and thus causing the jumpyness. That was causing the playback of the upclose objects flying across the screen fast to appear jittery, but not the random playback jumps. The 60fps did smooth out the animation greatly during fast flybys, but the playback jumps are still there in all players, QT, VLC, the web, etc.
I was starting to think this issue is realted to Mavericks, but since the PC did the same thing that is not it either. I have linked a sample of the clip below exported to 720p30, 25mbs... something that is much smaller than the original and should playback smooth very easily on any of my systems.
FYI: I have now opened numerous projects I have edited over the last few years and noticed that all of them are now jumpy, so this isn't just an image sequence issue. While the other projects don't use image sequences and instead are shot footage edited together, there is still the random jump (far less than the image sequence as you will see) but they are now there... ***? I have cleared preferences in FCP which helps for a short period of time, but once exported I get the same glitch.
As I said... I am stumped... ANYONE have ideas for me to try?
Here is a sample file for you all to see and please tell me if anyone does not see the issue after playing it several times in a row.
    www.media3lv.com/switch/NORTH-sample-720p30_25mb-sec.zip
One last thing to note... my main goal for these videos is YouTube or Vimeo playback via our company website. I have a few other animations online right now using YouTube and the problem is also showing there. At first I thought it was just my videos, but I have looked at numerous YouTube videos now showing 3D animation and alot of them are jumpy.
    www.supernap.com/supernap-building-design.html
    www.supernap.com/supernap-tscif-exchange.html
These don't show the issue as bad since the camera fly is much slower, but why is this occuring and is it coming from my source, or is this a known youtube issue? I can program this using out own modules, but YouTube and Vimeo allow for multiple resolutions and a checker script which makes it easier to share over all devices at all quality up to 1080p.
    Advice is welcome and appreciated?

I have tried at actual, full screen, using 1080p30 size from the original compressed to 4mbs (something my system can handle without blinking), 720p30, etc. etc. etc.  Nothing stops the jumps. Even the activity monitor shows only 5%-15% processing being used by QT and/or FCP.
I plan to pull my old G5 out of the closet, it runs 10.6.8 and is still rock solid for video editing in FCP7.  If it plays smooth on that 8 year old system then I know it's Mavericks. I'll try that tonight. It floors me though why the original 1080p30 will playback perfect via FCP and Motu, but once I turn of external monitoring and just try to play it via the preview monitor it is jumpy as **** and then the exported file does the same thing.  So strange.  I even deleted prefences of FCP and that does help with screen playback initially, but it always gets jumps in it after playing for a while.
I knew I should not have started using Mavericks and I HATE FCP10.

  • Transparency Issue when exporting Image Sequence

    Hi,
I'm creating short anims which have transparency and exporting them as png image sequences.  I'm finding two issues with the export though:
    1)  The first frame is always solid black (when it should be totally transparent)
    2)  The R,G,B channels of each image are multiplied by the transparancy.  So for example if I want a shape that's 50% transparent and coloured red the png should be 255,0,0,127 (R,G,B,A).  In fact what After Effects is creating is a shape that's 127,0,0,127 (R,G,B,A)
Does anyone know what this issue is and how to solve it?
    thanks
    Paul

You should not have any problem with PNG as you have no choice but to have the alpha to straight (it's on of the only codecs that doesn't support premultiplied). Do you have the same problem is you select tiff sequences (LZW compression if you don't have much free space).

  • Greenscreen issue - eporting as an image sequence?

    Hi folks!
I have this greenscreen shot whith VERY bad lighting. So in order to get decent keying, I decided to export my footage as an image sequence after using the primatte keyer for further correction in photoshop. (I have also tried the demo of DV matte blast). What happens is this:
When I import the the images into photoshop even those areas which were transparent in Motion are black in Photoshop which makes it almost impossible to do any retouching (the subject in questions wears black).
So what's my mistake and what settings do I have to chose when exporting from Motion?

    Thanx for your quick reply!
But actually it helped and created another problem:
I switched on the alpha layer in photoshop so I could see what was transparent in Motion, did some retouching and saved the image...
When I re-import the image sequence into Motion, then THERE is a lot of black where it was transparent originally... I tried messing with the interpret alpha function in Motion, but that didn't help either...
I still think I tick the wrong option somewhere either in Motion or in photoshop.

  • Issues with importing photos in an image sequence!

    Hi all,
Just at work and we're doing a rather large Time Lapse photography project which I and another colleague are editing within Adobe Premiere. After gathering a large selection of images we decided it was time to have a go at doing a first edit. Opened Premiere and made a new project etc. and have made a couple of practice runs with different pictures but I opened the pictures (File/Import) and then tried to import all of the pictures but I can't tick "Image Sequence", which is greyed out. Does anyone know why? I assumed it was due to the fact that it was importing them off an external drive but I put them on the MacBook just to make sure but it still wouldn't import them. I then tried to import less pictures at a time still to no avail.
Being flat out of ideas just thought I would ask what I would consider experts with more knowledge than myself for a hand! Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, with this being a work project I am eager to get started as soon as possible!

might be the filename convention stuff... like if you have filenames that have a lot of weird characters and no easily discernable " number" sequence it might not be recognizing them as a potential sequence. I'm on  a pc and use a program called " renamer "... which I got for free I think.. off internet.. and it works great for renaming stuff in a folder...
what I do is put a group of files in a specific folder ( like maybe a temp directory I make just for the purpose of renaming files ).. and use renamer on that stuff...
It's a little tricky so experiment with one file so you know it is working the way you expect... ( adding rules and using wildcards and so on ).  If you post a sample of one of your filenames in the sequence someone may be able to tell you definitively what is up ...
    good luck
edit.. an afterthought.. post 2 filenames that you think are sequential... and that way we can see how it is progressing re: numbers, dates, whatever.... and also someone could test it ( like I could create 2 files in ps using those names and see if it works to import as sequence.. and also see what renamer rules would work to fix it if it needs fixing ) ???

  • Image Sequence Layer Issue

I'm trying to use image sequencing to allow someone to rotate an image. The rotation works, but the image pops up to the top layer in front of my text, though I want it to be in the back.
Here's an image of it in the back (in proper positioning):
    And when activated (incorrect):

That’s why it’s called an overlay. You can use transparent PNGs and that should be enough but any text over the actual graphic will still be behind it.
