Wacom Mouse and CS4 Incompatibilities

Hi all,
I'm a CS3 user, but just downloaded CS4 for trial.  Unfortunately based on my experience so far it's unuseable.  The problem is that Clone, Healing, Brush tools do not respond to my Wacom Mouse (I can move brushes around, but can not apply any corrections).  If I use the Wacom pen, it works fine.  I've seen a few posting on the Internet from others with the same problem, but can't see any solutions identified.
I have Vista Ultimate 64, Intuos Tablet/Pen/Mouse, 8GB Memory and latest tablet drivers.  Help/advise would be appreciated.

John Joslin > Thanks for the suggestion, but I was already aware that I could Google and as I stated in the OP I did so without success!!!
Anthony.Ralph > I think it has a lot do do with what you suggest.  If I turn off pen-pressure control for shape dynamics the problem seems to go away - however that obviously defeats the object of pressure-sensitive pens so is not an ideal solution.  I experiented a little further and found that if I set a non-zero value for minimum size, when the brush 'stops working' with the mouse, it does not stop altogether, but instead outputs the minimum size brush.
So based on what I've seen so far, the problem appears to be when using the mouse, brushes work fine for a brief period of time after which the mouse behaves like a pen with very light pressure.  If NO pressure-sensitive option is selected in the brush palette then the mouse works fine.  If a pressure-sensitive option is selected for brush size, the mouse will output minimum size.
I've also removed and reinstalled the latest Wacom divers and that didn't help.

  • Non-Wacom tablets and CS4 and Nvidia

I have a Trust tablet and CS4 and have experienced problems with draw. The problems have already been stated in the thread http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6c5ed/53 regarding Wacom tablets, and apply to Genius tablets as well as Trust.
As I have said in that thread, when I draw with the tablet and then select another tool, such as type, then try and draw with the tablet again, all I get is a straight line between the start and the end point. There is no such problem in earlier versions of Photoshop.
However,I have just noticed something odd. I was experimenting, trying to fix the lag in my screen redraw, drawing and typing (also see relevant thread- "CS4 lag. What graphic card will it take?") and thought I would change the screen refresh rate. After I did that, the tablet started working again perfectly, and this "fix" works every time. This happens even if I start to change the screen refresh rate, but then cancel.
Since I have an Nvidia card, and this fix is playing with the card settings, I wonder if it is all related to the obvious problems CS4 and Nvidia have with each other? Can someone else try?

Lag in screen redraw is most likely a video card issue.
Bad lines, or a lack of pressure are due to tablet driver problems.
Do make sure you have Photoshop 11.0.1.

  • CS4 Brushes don't seem to work with Wacom Mouse

Ok, so since I've upgraded to CS4 about 3 months ago my Wacom Mouse (Intuos 3) doesn't seem to do anything with any brush tool. My attempts at brushing or stamping show in the history, but nothing changes to my document. I'm hoping this is a simple check box I'm missing or something of that nature.
    Before someone asks...
-I am in normal masking mode.
-I am brushing/clone stamping on the layer I want to be on with 'Current Layer' selected.
-I am in the RGB Channel.
-My opacity and flow are set to 100%.
-Brush tools work just fine with the Pen.
-I've actually replaced my mouse for a new one, same issue.
Any help would certainly be appreciated. Thanks much!

Check out the brush engine; specifically the shape dynamics with pen pressure selected. If the minimum diameter setting is a 0% then although the pen works with this, the mouse doesn't.

  • My left mouse click randomly quits on both my iMac mouse and my wacom tablet.  How can I fix this?

Throughout the day the left mouse click quits.  I can right click with my mouse but not left click.  It happens on my wacom mouse, the pen mouse AND my iMac mouse that was bought with the computer.  Restarting or completely shutting down the computer does not get it to reboot. It will come back randomly too.  It's so odd and I do not have an explination why this is happening.
I've looked for software updates but can not find any on the apple site OR wacom site.
    Please help?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Apple Magic Mouse and ID

I've recently purchased the lovely Apple Magic Mouse and am finding it quite difficult to use with InDesign CS4 - other ID versions would be the same I imagine. With this mouse you scroll by stroking its top surface, rather like a trackpad. This is excellent in other applications but in ID, because the pasteboard area is so large and the sensitivity of the mouse so high (even when scrolling is turned down to the minimum in its preferences), it's very easy to make your document shoot sideways off the screen. I expect Illustrator would have similar problems.
Is there a way in which the ID pasteboard can be resized or constrained? Maybe someone will come up with a prefs panel to control the new mouse's scrolling more precisely - but not yet.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    John Mallinson

I agree, it's far too sensitive. The core problem is that we have become so accustomed to resting our fingers on the surface of mice, because they always require a *definite* press, or scroll action. Now the magic mouse is so sensitive to ANY touch that it reacts to touches meant to push the mouse or were not meant to contact the surface of the mouse.
At first I liked it a bit, but the more I use it, I think it's Apple's worst mouse ever. Puck included (at least you could buy a housing to put them in). This mouse doesn't "seem" to track the same as all other wired mice I've ever used. The touch interface is great for vertical scrolling, but as pointed out here, far to sensitive in circumstances where such scrolling is not desired. Perhaps this could be rectified with a *very* comprehensive preference panel, ie one that lets a user specify the amount of scroll or movement required to initiate a swipe/scroll. The Wacom tablet panel has such prefs, for each program and an overall control as well (ie all unspecified apps). My other major complaint against the mouse is the overall shape. It is simple not comfortable or natural. I prefer a more bulbous mouse, since like many of you I imagine, I end up using the back of my palm to "push" the mouse around or rest my fingers on it. The Magic doesn't lend to resting on it at all. I also need to lift it up, or scroll it farther to the side of the screen than the room I have on my mouse surface. With my Mighty Mouse I pick it up by the sides and put it back down somwhere in the center of my mouse area. I have a dual screen setup, and my coworkers all have 24" iMacs, so it can still be a lot of screen space to traverse.
My Magic Mouse was a gift, but I still feel the $70 for it was a waste. I use it primarily because the scroll ball on the Mighty gets dirty fast and does not respond, and at that I rest the Magic next to my keyboard to scroll but still use the Mighty 95% of the time. If Apple would have made the exact same Mighty Mouse but only made the center area where the ball is, a touch sensitive surface, I would be in mouse heaven (they could delineate the area with a small inscribed line or something).
    IMHO big Apple Fail.

  • Wacom tablet and photoshop

I have just got a new Macbook Pro Yosemite. I have Adobe CS6 and everytime I use my Wacom tablet it acts buggy. For instance: Using the eraser tool, if I want to make the eraser larger I hit "]" as a shortcut. This doesn't work unless I click on a mouse first on the background before using the Pen again. This happens for other tools and shortcuts. The Polygonal Lasso tool also only works if there is a very long lag between points using the Wacom Pen.
Is anyone else having this issue? I've tried reinstalling the Wacom drivers and updating the software but it has yet to be effective.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers

That is a definite yes. It is way more accurate than the mouse is and it provides pressure values that will be important for any brush work. Even Illustrator makes use of them.
There will be a lot of clipping images for the web page so it makes sense to have a precise instrument to do the job.
One last thing, it will help prevent carpal tunnel in your wrist. If you already have it it will provide some relief. If nothing more than a way to alter how you hold your hand for a while.
It will take some time getting use to the tablet, so keep a mouse around, especially at school. Nothing worse than getting frustrated when your under a time crunch. Play with the tablet at home get use to it, when you feel comfortable with it, then try it in school. Just be prepared to use the mouse when your under pressure. Over time that won't be an issue.

  • Balky, frozen mouse and keyboard

Since installing OS 10.4.6, my USB keyboard and mouse quickly bog down, coming to a halt altogether. The mouse starts out as responsive as usual, but soon stops tracking adequately. The feel is as if the mouse is "bogged down" with too many instructions. I can unplug the USB cable to the keyboard and mouse and the problem will go away for a very short while, but then it is soon back. I can use a tablet stylus with absolutely no problem. Does anyone know what's going on here? It's extremely aggravating.

Same thing is now happening to me ... it created a problem
    where there wasn't one before.
Sorry to hear it, Steven. No solution from anyone anywhere, so I assume we are the few that experience this and we have no recourse but to wait for the next patch/update. I hope someone from Apple is monitoring these discussions closely, because this problem makes me want to chuck my entire system. I have found that unplugging and re-plugging the USB cable (it's in a factory-installed, direct USB socket) will clear the clog temporarily. I updated the driver for my Wacom tablet, so I can mouse around with that. I can't enter anything from the keyboard when that USB cable gets clogged. Anyone else out there have mouse and keyboard stoppage issues? HELP!

  • Could someone please help with two differences between CS and CS4?

Hello, I just moved from Photoshop CS to CS4 and have a couple of questions regarding some differences I'm seeing in the two versions.
    (1) When opening files, I'm used to them opening in a smaller view as individual windows.  CS4 opens all images in the expanded view.  Is there a way to prevent this from happening?  I create massive sports photo galleries (often more than 100 images) and usually open 25-30 images at a time, then minimize all images and work on them one at a time in chronological order.  The was CS4 opens these images in full screen mode, it prevents me from doing this in a timely manner - PS never opens a group of photos up in a true chrono order.  It misplaces the first image to the end.
    (2) In CS, I used to be able to Right-Mouse-Click on the image's title bar to change Image and Canvas sizes.  Any way to get this to work in CS4?  CTL+ALT and either I or C is a three-key process and takes considerably longer than right clicking my mouse and choosing the correct option.
Thanks for any help you can provide.  And apologies for being such a newbie to the latest and greatest Photoshop version.  I've been living in CS for years
    Mike

You are a life saver. Thanks!  I looked in the INTERFACE area about three times and never understood that TABBED meant that it was opening them full screen.
Any idea how to deal with question #2?  Cannot set up an ACTION for this as the action makes me have to choose an image size.  I just want to have the Image or Canvas size windows open with one click, rather than holding down three keys.
Thanks again.  You have been rewarded with a CORRECT ANSWER click

  • Wacom Mouse crashes Elements 9 Organizer

    Hello,
Sorry for my bad English, I'm french
    I'm trying Elements 9.
I use a Wacom Intuos 3 with mouse on one computer, and my old Graphire 3 with mouse on a second computer. I use W7 32bits.
On both computer, impossible to use Elements 9 Organizer with the mouse, it's very very slow or frozen.
    With the pen it works.
Editor works fine with mouse or pen.
Can someone who has a Wacom tablet with mouse try, please ?
    Thanks for your interest.

    guys,
this may not be a simple wacom driver issue....
see this faq from the unifiedcolor website:
I have a Wacom tablet and it doesn't work with HDR Expose or 32 Float, what can I do?
After exchanges with a number of customers that complained of very strange behavior such as "unable to interact with the user interface" and "When I move the mouse over things they light up but I can't click them", it appears that the issue is a bug that occurs with Wacom tablets.
To give a bit of a technical background of the issue, Unified Color products' user interface is designed using a cross platform framework made by Nokia called Qt, which we use because it allows us to make our products cross-platform in unified manner (the same user interface code works on Windows XP/Vista/7 and Mac OS X Leopard/Snow Leopard).
This Wacom incompatibility issue is a problem with Qt and is affecting all Qt-based applications, so unfortunately it is not something that we can fix directly. However it is a bug that Nokia acknowledges and says that it is working on, and many developers(including us) are pushing for them to provide a solution. Due to the nature of this process, we cannot provide an estimated timeline for when the fix should be available in our product, but again we are reaching out to Nokia to get this resolved — it is a high priority issue for us.
To be a bit more specific about the bug, we have found that the issue only affects Windows users of Wacom tablets when it is in "Mouse" mode, which is sometimes called "Relative" mode. A temporary workaround is to switch your pen into "Pen" mode(sometimes called "Absolute" mode), in which we observed proper behavior, or use a standard USB mouse.
We apologize for the delay with this issue and appreciate your patience.
and topaz labs has released plugins that now work correctly with the wacom tablet mouse:

  • Screen Flickering in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4

I experience screen flickering in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4 when I move my mouse around on the screen. Basically any mouse movement will create flickering. The more and faster I move my mouse the more flickering occurs.
    System Specs
    - Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
    - Intel i7 3.2GHz Extreme
    - ASUS Rampage II Extreme Mobo
    - Corsair Dominator 6GB 1866MHz (Triple Channel)
    - Dual eVGA Nvidia GTX 285 Superclocked Graphics Cards in SLI
    - Dual 60GB OCZ Vertex Series SDDs in RAID0
    - Corsair 1000Watt PSU
    - CPU and both GPUs are water cooled
    - Logitech G-15 Keyboard
    - Logitech G-9 Mouse
    - ASUS 26" LCD VK266H monitor (1920x1200 @ 60Hz) DVI
    - I have the latest BIOS and all of the most up-to-date drivers installed for every piece of hardware.
I have photoshop set to use the maximum allowable amount of memory. The memory slider in photoshop maxes out at 3.25GB which equates to about 50% of my total system memory.
The screen flickering does not occur in any other application or game, only in Photoshop. I have tried every possible Nvidia Control Panel setting for this application, and nothing seems to have an effect on the flicker.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem, or any recommendations?

Aside from the potential SLI issue, you might want to study your Logitech mouse driver.
Going back a bit, several versions of the MS InteliPoint mouse driver caused just what you describe. I have not heard of this with Logitech, but did have some other issues with their SetPoint drivers. In my case, I ditched their keyboard, but kept the mouse (love it), and did away with SetPoint, using the generic driver. All functions that I needed were handled, and SetPoint was out of the equation.
Something else to look at, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Wacom Tablets and Standard Productivity Programs.

I am interested in getting a Wacom tablet and I am well aware that for Adobe type products such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash it is very useful. However, I am curious as to if it can do anything just within the OS itself, especially with Safari, Mail and basic System functions; as well as Office for Mac (2004), iLife '08 (especially iWeb) and iWork '08 (especially Keynote). Has anyone tried it out on those programs/suites? Also can it do anything with Bridge?
*Edit: I have Adobe CS3 Premium Design Suite on my system. The line of tablets I am interested in is the Intuos3 line as I do mostly Photoshop work.
    Message was edited by: AnimacNut

I have a Wacom Intuous and for me, I have to say that in Bridge or any non graphics program, it doesn't do anything special for me. If you do a lot of Photoshop work or like to draw, you will find it invaluable. Also the Intuous line comes with a mouse, so if you have the tablet plopped in your lap, you can switch between the pen and a mouse while using the tablet easily.
If you get the Intuous, you may also want to try out the Ink application. When you have your tablet connected, it shows up in system preferences and you need to turn it on to use it. Some of the features it offers are system wide (i.e. you can write text like a palm pilot instead of typing but I would rather type). Ink does offer a couple of useful features though, you can dash off a quick note or a sketch with it.
Again, if you use Photoshop a lot, get the tablet; it's well worth it.

  • Problem with xfce and/or mouse and keyboard

    Hi!
Two days ago I've turned on my laptop with Arch and the display manager Slim has frozen immediately. Later on Single-User mode I've uninstalled it. Now in normal mode when I type "startxfce4" everything is showing up, but the mouse and keyboard don't work. I know it's not frozen, because animation of mouse and CPU Frequency Monitor is on.
Strange fact is that laptop is not connecting with the Internet, so now I don't know where the problem is.
It's happening when I start xfce both from user and super user.
Just before those troubles I've updated everything with "pacman -Syu", but I haven't seen anything strange. Also the computer could have been roughly turned off (by unplugging power supply), when was turning on.
    Thanks,
    Gaba

Sorry for not replying, but I didn't have access to my laptop by this time.
On grub I have only normal mode and 'fallback' mode, so I have result from 'journalctl' from normal mode.
I'm sending the fragment of this file where you can see everything after I typed 'startxfce4' in console:
    http://codepad.org/8pYIj8qC
I see that something is wrong, but after some attempts I don't know how to fix this ^^
    Edit:
Oh, I forgot to write, that I've tried activate some drivers from 'lspci -k' (there were no "Kernel driver in use:..." in almost every device), but it didn't fi anything.

  • Magic Mouse and Employing Pinch to Open and Close Feature

I have purchased a magic mouse and would like to employ the "pinch to open & close" features (option on multi-touch trackpad) with the magic mouse. This is not the same as zoom (e.g. hold control key with mouse wheel).
I have tried using bettertouchtool and magicprefs, but it appears that neither accommodates this feature easily. If there were a keyboard shortcut to employ this feature then I think I can assign it to a magic mouse gesture via BTT or Magic Prefs, but I cannot find such a keyboard shortcut.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

It could be you are approaching it incorrectly.   It can be a tricky little gadget that actually works with minimal pressure.
Try turning over the mouse so the compartment panel faces you, optical sensor topmost.  Then holding the mouse at each side but not on the panel itself, flick the small, black rectangular panel downwards.   The top of the panel should spring out, though it may require you to manipulate it fully away from the mouse.
Once you have replaced the batteries, starting at the bottom reverse the procedure then clip into place.   Remember to move the small switch next to the optical sensor upwards which should turn on the green light.   Then click twice to connect.

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

  • Mouse (and keyboard) lag! help?

I did a clean install of ML a week ago. After a few days mouse lag began to become a serious issue. The cursor jitters instead of moving smoothly; it freezes until a large side-to-side movement wakes it up; it disappears entirely. A truly irritating situation and VERY bad for productivity.
At first I blamed the wireless mouse (the latest model Apple mouse) and/or its battery charge. A fresh charge did no good. I'm now using a wired USB mouse and the problem remains. It's apparent in all software (at the moment nothing but Safari is running and the cursor just froze for more than a second). Oddly the scroll wheel on the USB mouse seems to work when everything else is dead.
And.. while typing this, the keyboard went dead. The spacebar alone was ignored, then other keys. Then it woke up. Sheesh. What's going on?
It's a 2010 Mini with 2GB ram. I have an 8GB upgrade on order. Will that make a difference to the mouse?

Update: the mouse is actually losing connection to the mini from time to time. It's les than 2 feet from the computer and the battery charge is 100%. Prior to installing ML I never had any issues with bluetooth reception.
(I shut off the bluetooth in my iPhone and iPad to prevent interference, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference).
Am I the only person with this problem?
