Want to buy a new Mini, but should I wait for Snow Leopard?

I'm ready to buy a Mac Mini now. But with Snow Leopard just around the corner, I would hate to have to dish out another $129 for Snow Leopard when I could have just waited a few months for it to ship with the Mini.
Is it worth it to wait, or should I just dive into a new Mini with just Leopard?
Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the great input everyone!
Most of you say 'go for it now', and that's the way I'm leaning, but I'll drill down a little deeper with where I'm at on this.
I've been wanting to get a Mini since they first came out, but more intently since last fall. I heard that they were due for a refresh, and rumors had been floating that there would be new models in Q1 of 2009. I had hoped to see them at Macworld, but we all know what a disappointment that was. So after much anticipation, they're finally here. All that to say, I have a very strong desire to order one right now.
But then there is this question of Snow Leopard. My main reason (although there are many) for getting a Mini is to record my broadcast TV shows in HD with eyeTV. I've been using my Dual 867Mhz Power Mac G4 (MDD) to record shows in analog mode with eyeTV, and it does it very successfully. But my G4 doesn't meet the requirements to record in HD (although I've tried it and it will record HD, but it's not always successful and it takes at least 12 to export it to iTunes). Also, broadcast TV is going to can analog on June 12. So I wont be able to record my shows after that unless I have the Mini.
So, here is where I'm at with this dilemma:

There is a good argument to say that if you have no immediate need for a new system, you should wait until Snow leopard is announced, but not yet pre-installed on systems in the supply chain and buy a system then. That would give you an installed copy of Leopard and either a Snow Leopard upgrade disk in the box, or an 'up-to-date' program option to buy a Snow Leopard copy for a small fee. That would give you the best of both worlds.
This is exactly what I'd like - "the best of both worlds." Getting SL with the Mini but not having it pre-installed would be ideal.
But will the announcement come at the WWDC?
Will the WWDC be held at the speculated date of June 6-12 (which is right before the DTV switch btw)? And even if I wait for the announcement, this is not the guaranteed outcome (they could end up saying that all systems will be shipping with SL today).
Ugh! I'm so torn.
Does anyone know how far ahead they announce the date of the WWDC?

  • Wanting  to move up from panther but should i wait????

i am wanting to move on from panther, i like some of the stuff from tiger, widgets, etc. but should i wait for the new lepoard?? it looks really cool!!! if tiger is in fact much nicer than panther i wouldnt mind spending the money now and then again when lepoard comes out. but if tiger isnt that great than i would rather wait. what do you all think, do you like tiger enough to switch now and again in 6 months? (providing they do launch it in the spring) thanks for any advice....

If youdo upgrade to tiger make sure you have at least 1gb of RAM if you are planning on doing more than web browsing and using itunes.
I had 768mb in my work dual 1.25 G4 and it flew with Panther. When i put tiger on it crawled until i upgraded to 2gb. A couple of the guys in my office use 1gb for quark, photoshop, indesign etc and they get by just fine..... although it drives me up the wall using their machines when they are on holiday as i have to keep quitting programs to stop it slowing down too much.

  • I am about to buy my first Macbook Pro, should I wait for the possibility for a 2015 macbook, or just get the most recent model currently? (9-22-14)

No one knows if there will be a new model and if so, when that would be. However, there always will be something bigger, better, and newer around the corner, so you'd be waiting forever.
Buy it when you want or need it.
FWIW, here are the specs of the latest models (which happen to be mid 2014):

  • I have an old Iphone 3g and want to buy a new iphone but am afraid I will lose my contacts list

I want to buy a new Iphone.  I currently have an old 3g.  I want to be sure that I don't lose the contacts on my phone.  I have some numbers on there that are not on my contacts list that is on my ipad.  How do I do this?

To sync contacts to your new iPhone you want to first
1: Connect iPhone 3G to computer with the latest version of iTunes (11.0.4.)
2: From there click under the device summary and look for your iPhone.
3: You should be on a page that should say summary on the top part of your phone where it'll say "Summary, info, music, applications, etc.
4: Click on Info and then you should see a box where you can put a check mark next to the words, "Sync Contacts."
    5: Sync your contacts
    Option 2:
1: Go to the summary page as described above and make a backup of your iPhone 3g onto your iTunes
2: connect your iPhone 5 and then open up the summary page
3: ON the summary page you want to click on "Restore backup" and select the backup you JUST made today (check the time stamp)
4: THis should put all your contacts, pictures, and settings from your old phone onto your new phone with no issues
    HOpe this helped

  • I want to buy the new Ipad but what will become of my purchased applications? can I transfer them from my old Ipad?

I have the 3G ipad, but I want to buy the new one how do I transfer my applications from the old Ipad to the new Ipad

Yes. You can either set up your new iPad from a back-up of your old iPad, or you can select any apps bought via iTunes to be installed into the new iPad. If you go with the restore, everything like levels and the like on games is restored too. If you install fresh, then some things don't come over, even though you've loaded the apps.
anyway, it's not something to worry about.

  • New macbook pro should it come with snow leopard

i bought a macbook pro 2 days ago from a well known store called comet when i got it home though i noticed it never came with snow leopard should i get this free with the macbook or do i have to pay £7.50 and if so is it worth it

    Hi
I bought my MacBook Pro on the release date for Snow leopard at an Apple Store (Brighton, UK). This came with a Snow Leopard drop in Disc.
It looks like the one you picked up from Comet was old stock (not that old of course just shipped by Apple before the Snow Leopard release date), and it may well be that you will have to claim under the up to date programme.
I doubt very much that Apple will have supplied update discs for Comet to include at point of sale for Macs shipped prior to the release date of Snow Leopard. As far as I am aware Comet do not stock Snow Leopard as a separate product, so they are unlikely to be able to let you have a copy.
It is probably worth giving Apple customer services a call and see what they say, or go to an Apple store and ask, if you are close enough to one to make it viable. Take your receipt from Comet and explain nicely, you may get lucky and they will give you a copy.
If you do have to pay via the up to date scheme then I would say yes it is worth it. You won't see much difference, but you will be bang up to date for under £10.
    Good luck
    Paul

  • I want to buy a mac mini but not sure what to buy. i need it for itunes and pictures. i want to be able to watch movies and tv shows on my tv. can anyone help me

i want to buy a mac mini

If you aren't doing any heavy duty photo editing
the base model should work just fine.  I would suggest
that if you go with the base model, bump the RAM
up to at least 4gig, but get it at Newegg or direct from
Crucial or Kingston, it will be way cheaper.

  • I want to reply to iCloud email but it did not provide any email address. Anyone has their email? I signed in for Support Chat, it said wait 2 min. but I was waiting for 10 and nothing come up?

I want to update my payment information but it keeps saying my security code is invalid and my payment method was declined. However, I got a short message from my bank saying the charge by Apple was successful?  How could it be if the payment information was invalid?

    Hey TapBkk,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Since it says your security code is invalid, take a look at this article:

  • Can one buy a new top of the line MacPro with Snow Leopard on it directly from Apple store?

I'm considering a new Mac Pro desktop with two identical video graphics card, a bazillion GB of RAM, etc., but want no part of Lion and/or Mountain Lion.  I'm wondering if Apple still sell them.
Has anyone bought one such beast from the Apple store recently?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the lightning fast response, mende1.
From the lack of Snow Leopard options at the Apple store, I was already getting the impression that it was not feasible anymore.  It's good to know for certain.
That leaves me with the choice of a used/refurbished Mac or a Windoze box with Windows 7 on it, which can still be obtained from HP, and maybe Dell and others.
Just as I want no part of the stinky lions, I want no part of Windows 8 either.
From my point of view, the engineers at Apple and Microsoft lost their minds with their latest operating systems.  It's mind boggling!

  • Should I wiat for Snow Leopard to migrate to new disk?

I have a Macbook Pro 13" and had a repair resulting in anew hardrive. Did an erase and install of original Leopard to at least have the machine up to date. My question is that I will be migrating all my info and setting from my Imac's Time Machine to the new disk on the Macbook Pro, which I did when I first bought it a few months ago. Would it be better to wait a day or two--when my Snow Leopard DVD Upadte Disk--will be arriving and then migrate everything over of is it the same as migrating now and then updating the computer when the new OS arrives either tomorrow or Saturday.

    Hi, again.
Nobody who's allowed to talk about it knows as of today exactly what's involved in the installation, but all indications are it's not a big deal.
Purely from past experience, however, I always recommend doing major things one step at a time. If you do one right after the other, you multiply the (small) chances of error, and may have no clue about which step caused any problems.
I'd say do the migration first. Start Time Machine (or other) backups immediately. Then use the Mac for a while to be sure everything's kosher.
There are bound to be bugs in Snow Leopard. Probably minor overall, but no major (and few minor) upgrade in the history of the computer has been entirely bug-free. So make sure your Pro is working fine on Leopard, and is properly backed-up, before installing SL.

  • I Want motherboards buy-out New?but help

    Hello everyone ,
    I Here Member New   , }
I Want Help for buy-out (motherboards) I Want tool standing good between (K8N Diamond , K8N SLI Platinum) ?
    NoteS: I Have(*AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice*) and (*MSI NX6600GT-TD128E Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card*)
    Thanks

My honest advice to you would be don't buy a MSI motherboard.
Some may have good reviews, but these are based on a couple of hours testing in some lab. The real test of a motherboard is how the end user community rates the board, after weeks and months of use.
Do some research in public forums on any of the Mobo's u you are thinking of. Then base your decsion on that.
I made the mistake of buying an MSI mobo, when i'd previously used only DFI or Asus.
With MSI you are prone to stabilty problems and they seem incapable of releasing bios updates in time with new hardware/processors. Indeed MSI is the ONLY mobo Manfn who cannot write a bios that offically supports Venice + San Diego chips, when every other major manfn released them, months ago.
Its only my humble experience and view , but MSI are when it comes to MOBO.
Forums are great thou and everyone here is most helpful.

  • I want to buy a new ipod but can I move my apps without losing in-app data?

I can back-up my ipod, wipe it and then restore the back-up without losing my game worlds and other in-app data bit what if i do this to another ipod. Won't i loss all of my data? Also, my ipod is really slow these days so I wanted to format it but how can i do that without losing my data AND without damaging my ipod? The back ups were made by icloud and directly restored. I wiped my ipod using the delete all data and settings function on my ipod. I've used that function with ios 5 and 6. Please be serious because i keep all of my data on my ipod!
    Already thanks!
    J. Paalman
(Could i also delete apps without losing data?)

    See:
iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device
You can just reatore from backup. If you restore via iTunes all yur synced media like apps and music has to be in the iTunes library since synced media is not included in the backup
If you restore from iClould backup only iTunes purchases are restore.

People listen this is the most ridiculous attitude that the verizon customer service came up with. They are Just out to steal money from every customer
If you buy their phone stand to reason that your are going to buy their service. I am Just dumb founded! How can they do that? Charge full price of a plain phone

I think when this is over I will be going to the competition. All I want is for verizon to know is I am buying their service and I need a phone the price they have posted
    on their phones.

  • New ESS implementation, should we wait for EPH5 ?

    Hi All,
We currently work on ECC 6 EPH 4 and are in a process of implementing ESS. There are number of customizations that have been identified for which we will need have to modify the Java code since currently ESS is all in Java.
Now since Enhancement Pack 5 which is coming out in June/July will have ABAP as the basic technology for the ESS portal rather than Java.  Does that means that we will need to "throw out" the customizations and redo them in the ABAP version of the portal when the our company upgrades to EPH5? Is it recommended that we hod on any Java customizations and wait for EPH5 to be out?

  • I want to buy a new Macbook pro 15", but I don't like Lion, I want Leopard installed, is there any issues with drivers or any other I should be aware of?

I want to buy a new Macbook pro 15", but I don't like Lion, I want Leopard installed, is there any issues with drivers or any other I should be aware of?

Hello, I've tried Lion from the day they released to last week I got my computer formated and with leopard again, on my iMac 24" from early 2009 2.9 Ghz core 2 duo, and I have installed 8 Gb of memory, and i have some complains about it, there are some cosmetic issues but mostly I'm concerned about issues bellow the hood, as I'm a stock trader and I depend completly from my computer's performance, let me explain:
    Superficial issues:
    1. They took off "spaces" and I liked it.
    2. I dont use the magic mouse, I need a more accurate mouse for my charts, and it seems they built the entire OS assuming you would use the magic mouse for gestures, scroll, etc to try to mimic in some way the Ipad and Iphone functions, but what if you arent using it like me?
    3. I never used that little rocket icon that makes all your apps appear and that could be one of the "improvements on Lion", at first sight it looks nice and slick, but if you try to use it and make it part of your daily use, you would find it is useless, it is a pain to try to arrange it the way you like it, so I rather use the spotlight to search for my apps, its faster.
    Now the MOST important, 'performance':
    1. It completly suffocate my computers hardware Leopard much more lighter, beggining from the start up that taked almost 1/3 or twice the time, and I think Lion has some bugs bellow the hood, i was doing my normal stuff, some apps running and everything, and suddenly I started to feel the computer a little slow, safari taking forever to open the pages for example, and I opened the activity monitor to see what was going on, and it was there, I was using 4 or 5 gb from my memory, and CPU making insane peaks, and Im using 2.46 gb as im writing it doing exactly the same stuff, (but Im happily using Leopard now), and it wasnt once, as i told before, I used lion since the day they released it and happened several times until it drove me nutts. But leopard not problem in that regard at all, Never.
hope this helps, and hope some apple guys read that because lion resulted in a big disappointment for me.
