How to close Internet Explorer and other programs running on Windows?

In order for Flash Player to be installed or updated, any programs that use Flash Player must be closed. This includes Internet Explorer or other browsers, instant messengers, Skype, etc.
These programs may be running in the background, not as visible windows, but need to be closed anyway.
To close such programs use the Windows Task Manager. To start Task Manager, take any of the following actions:
Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Task Manager.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
Right-click an empty area of the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.
Once the Task Manager is running, select the Processes tab. On older Windows version you may need to click on the Process Name or Image Name header to sort the process names.
Now right-click on every process that the Flash Player installer needs to close (e.g. iexplore.exe), then select End Process.

Filevault impact on performance and application usability.
FileVault encrypts the user's home directory only - it is basically an encrypted disk image that is automatically opened when you log in and closed when you log out. It does cause disk accesses to be a bit slower so it isn't a good idea to use an encrypted account with sound or video or large graphics files. I have no experience with it with Parallels Desktop but suspect that you'd notice a bit of a slowdown. Note: in the User's directory you'll see a Shared Folder. Since FV only encrypts the user's directory you can put data you don't need encrypted in this shared folder which won't be encrypted.
TIme machine impacts, and whether TIme Machine volume will also be secure?
There are issues with TM and FV but how extensive they are with Snow Leopard I can't say, once I realized that TM and FV hadn't substantially changed between 10.5 and 10.6 I stopped dealing with it. When FV and TM were first introduced my testing led me to recommend using CCC or SuperDuper! for backing up.

Since FV is nothing more than a disk image - and disk images can fail - there are several problems with FV in my opinion. If an encrypted disk image fails it isn't possible to access any of that data. If you don't have a recent (undamaged) backup of the disk image and/or recent backup of the data within the disk image you are in a world of hurt. This isn't just a warning of possibility - this is a real danger that I've seen all too often at the shop where I have worked part time for a number of years.
At this time I strongly recommend that people who have sensitive data keep that sensitive data segregated from their general data and encrypt only the sensitive data or use other methods of locking it down such as saving on an external drive that is kept in a safe. Call me paranoid but I don't even keep all my sensitive data in one encrypted disk image. I use multiple disk images and keep multiple sequential backups. That way I might someday find that my up-to-date investments disk image won't mount but (a) I can go back a week to a backup and (b) that won't impact my up-to-date business records because those are in a different disk image

I have been googling around to see if Adobe CS3 Design Standard is compatible with Windows 7 64-bits with MS Office 2010 Pro Plus, but I couldn't find a decent answer.
If anyone here has any idea on this, please let me know.
As far as i know Adobe CS3 comes with Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro which is not compatible with MS Office 2010, so I am sort of worried that I will need to upgrade my CS3 to CS6.

I don't know if Acrobat 8 is Win 7 64 bit compatible or if it's supported. The rest of the apps should be fine.
But I do think you'll have issues with Office 2010 files being placed into InDesign.
Moving to CS6 is something you should be thinking about very soon. You only get upgrade pricing until the end of the year, but I highly recommend taking a look at Creative Cloud. At $29.99/month for the first year it's a bargain.

It is not clear what application you mean when you say Adobe 9 Pro Extended, so it ois not certain if it is available for you to download. If you can diownload it, it will only be valid for a 30 day trial unless you already own it and have a serial number to activate the trial with.

Here is what I have done...I have zipped up and attached below under Attachments, the raw smbus controller driver files for you to unzip and manually install.
Download and unzip the file.
Go to the device manager and click on the smbus controller needing drivers. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that you unzipped.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then reboot.

Internet Explorer 10 Won't Open on Windows Server 2012

Seems to have started after installing Windows Update. You click the IE icon and nothing happens. Nothing is logged in the event log.
I've tried disabling & re-enabling the feature - no luck.
What else can be done?

Please open a Command Prompt. Change drive and Directory to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and enter the command iexplore.exe<CR>.
Can't you see an error message?
If not, do you know how to run the SysInternals 'Process Monitor' Tool 'ProcMon'?
'ProcMon' shows you a lot of important System API calls with Parameters and the results 'success' or 'failed'.
For 32 bit i have a very old tool 'LodPrf32' from Matt Pietrek. Once it was contained in the Windows Platform SDK
'LodPrf32' is much easier to use than 'ProcMon'. Below you see the output of my version of LodPrf32.

Windows update KB2964444 broke Event Logging Service and SQL Agent Service on Windows Server 2008 R2

I got the following problem:
I discovered that on my Windows Server 2008R2 machine the event logging stopped working on 04/May/2014 at 03:15.
Also, SQL Agent Service won't run
The only change that day was security
update KB2964444 - Security
Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows Server 2008 R2for x64-based Systems, that was installed exactly 04/May/2014 at 03:00. Apparently, that's what broke my machine...
When I try to start Windows Event Log via net
start eventlog or via Services
panel, I get an error:

please i'm trying to add ADRMS server with windows server 2012 R2 with our ADRMS 2008 R2 cluster. and it fails with the following error:
"The Client DLL version doesn't match with the one of the servers"
so i want to know is it supported to add RMS 2012 R2 server to RMS 2008 R2 Cluster

They can't coexist, but usually what happens is you add the 2012 server, it migrates your cluster database and then your 2008r2 servers can no longer connect.

Are there any license issues with installing Office 2013 Home and Business on Server 2012 R2 operating system?
I am having inconsistent issues installing this software on a server running this operating system. The Office software is not being acccesed by client workstations. Its a stand alone software installation for the server. Are there any
special installation procedures I must follow or software registration procedures I must follow?
Microsoft website states Office 2013 Home and Business is compatible with Server 2012 but doesnt include the an R2 version reference.

Please note only Volume Licensing editions of Office may be used on RDS host server. Since Home and Business is a Retail edition, it's not suitable/permitted if you are using RDS.
