Want to open an Excel Spreadsheet from a link.

I am working with financial website and it has a link to a Excel Spreadsheet already design to performa complex calculation.  Spreadsheet is in Excel.  Clicking on the link does not open it and I cannot figure how to get it to open in Numbers - any ideas.

Hi Laura,
This note, from a cell in the Excel spreadsheet, likely explains the difficulty:
If you are using on older version of Excel, you may need to install an “Add-In.” On the Tools menu at the top of your screen, click Add-Ins. Select the Analysis ToolPak box, and then click OK. If necessary, follow the instructions in the setup program.
The add-ons in Excel's Analysis Toolpak are, to the best of my knowledge, not supported in Numbers.

Barry

  • I have Thunderbird on Windows 8.1 and it will not allow me to open an excel spreadsheet from an e-mail.

    If I receive an e-mail with an excel attachment on it or an attachment that has 'dat.' at the4 end of it, the attachment won't open when I try to open it. Most frustrating.

    To get Thunderbird to open a dat Text file file using Excel.
    Right click on attachment and choose 'Open'
    A window opens asking what to use.
    select 'Open with'
    click on the drop down selection and choose 'Other'.
    A small window opens showing a selection.
    If Microsoft Excel is not in the list, click on 'Browse' button
    a window opens showing your 'Program files'
    If your OS is Win8.1 and 64bit version and Office 2010 32bit version, to find Office programs the default path may say:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ This is the 64bit version path for Win8.
    It is also the standard directory if using Vista 32bit.
    So if your OS is Win8.1 64bit version you need to choose the 32bit path:
    C:\'''Program Files (x86)'''\Microsoft Office\
    locate and click on 'Microsoft Office'
    click on 'Office 12' folder
    The number eg: '12' depends on the version: I have 2007
    so if you use 2010 then it will be in Office 14 folder - list is below to choose correct folder.
    * 9 = Office 2000
    * 10 = Office 2002/XP
    * 11 = Office 2003
    * 12 = Office 2007
    * 14 = Office 2010
    Now you should see 'Excel.exe' , This is the file you are looking for.
    Select 'Excel.exe' and click on 'Open'
    If you want Thunderbird to remember this and use it each time to open dat file, select the checkbox 'Do this automatically for files like this from now on.
    click on Ok
    This will now open a dat file from the attachments in an email using excel.
    It will be listed in Tools-Options-Attachments-Incoming tab.

  • I want to open an excel file from a folder in the Microsoft live office on Hotmail. Their instruction is to go to tools in Firefox, go to plug-ins and then install Microsofts Office 2010. Can't find plug-h. Help?

    I have uploaded an excel file from my desk top to the Windows Live (HOTMAIL?) office suite. When I try to open the file I get an error that says my system is not supported. My system passes all of the listed criteria except for one. That is a plug in from Firefox. The instructions say to go to the Firefox menu, click on tools then plug-ins. Of course when I go to tools plug-ins is not immediately available, but when I do go to plug-ins, I am to click on Microsoft Office 2010. This plug in is supposed to allow earlier versions of office documents to be viewed as well as Office 2010. The plug-in is not available. When I search the Firefox website I am not able to find such a plug-in.
    I am using Microsoft XP, Office 2007 and the version of Firefox prior to V4. V4 does not support all of my e-mail clients so am not able to use V4.

    I am using Microsoft XP, Office 2007 and the version of Firefox V4 but I have this same problem.

  • Update Open Shared Excel spreadsheet from SSIS using SQL task

    I propose to call a SSIS package from excel and update a single cell in a sheet.  The spreadsheet is shared so it can be referenced by SSIS even though it is open.
    The update succeeds but the problem is the cell is not updated unless the spreadsheet is closed.
    any suggestions?  workarounds?
    Overview:  I need to have a button that when clicked executes a ssis package,  that does some assorted magic, and finally updates a cell so that another sheet includes the updated cell in a formula.
    Thanks is advance.
    Susan

    Susan,
    so, did you already create the solution?
    Why SSIS?
    I expect this not to work as the Excel Destination will require exclusive rights to the already open Excel worksheet
    I suggest you use data query from Excel or a macro instead. This solution does not look right.

  • Moving Excel Spreadsheets from Work to Home

    I have had this problem for the past month. The problem is when moving Excel
    spreadsheets from home to work only (1) out of (6) will not open. It says there is not enough memory. The other spreadsheets are larger so I know the allocation is ok. The work computer is an IMac running system 9.2, the home
    computers are a G4 IMac and a G3 IBook. Both of these are running Tiger 10.4.4. These spreadsheets open on both of these Tiger computers.
    I use a 128MB USBDrive for moving files back and forth. One thing I have noticed recently is that when opening at work the Icons say PC. I have a newer version of Excel at home, cannot load that version at work because it is not compatible with system 9.2.
    Help????????

    Hi, klugej -
    I don't use OSX, so can't suggest a method there. However, in OS 9, try highlighting the icon of the drive (click on it once), then select Erase from the Special menu. With luck, that will offer one of the Mac formats (probably Mac OS Standard) as well as MS-DOS.

    How top Open a Excel Document  from share point document library using jquery

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to open excel file via JQuery.
    To open excel file, we can use the following code.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function openExcel(strFilePath) {
    var yourSite = "http://www.yoursite.com";
    openExcelDocPath(yourSite + strFilePath, false);
    function openExcelDocPath(strLocation, boolReadOnly) {
    var objExcel;
    objExcel = new ActiveXObject("Excel.Application");
    objExcel.Visible = true;
    objExcel.Workbooks.Open(strLocation, false, boolReadOnly);
    </script>

  • Open the excel spreadsheet in Excel.

    Hi,
    I am outputing data as an excel spreadsheet via jsp, but there are no toolbars etc available (for sorting, etc) when displayed within the browser.
    Is it possible to always open the excel spreadsheet in the Excel-application (even if the user/client have "Browse in same window" for the file type)?
    Thank you

    May be this could help:-
    The points given below gives idea about how to display the report or
    static data for which data is retrieved in the servlet and printed
    through jsp.
    1. The conversion of report into excel is done by changing the
    setContentType of response
    in the servlet.The mimeType should be added in mimeTypes of application
    server corresponding to the string given in setContentType.The setHeader
    is for default file
    name for excel
    Example:
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    response.setHeader("Content-disposition","attachment;filename=file.xls")
    Setting Mime type in server(Weblogic):
    weblogic.httpd.mimeType. application/vnd.ms-excel =xls
    2. In IE the excel is directly downloaded and the user explicitly
    saves in the local system.In Netscape the user is given the option to
    open the file or save it to the local system
    3. Note:
    1) It is better if the whole information of the report in a single
    table.
    2) If the application requires both html and excel format of the same
    report to be displayed on certain conditions, it is better to have two
    different jsps one for html and other for Excel since the formatting is
    different

  • Open an excel file from jsp

    Hi,
    I want to open an excel file on click of a link in the jsp.
    At present iam using href which i feel is not correct as it is not able to recognize the excel format and paints the entire screen with special characters.Can anyone please help me out.
    Thanks,

    In your server, there should be some way to tell the server the mime type of a file based on the file's extension. So, you tell the server for every file with the extension of .xls, it should use the mime type of application/vnd.ms-excel. Then, when the link is clicked on, the browser will receive the mime-type message of application/vnd.ms-excel and will open Excel to work with the file.
    Hope this helps,
    Ron

  • How do I download a excel spreadsheet from my iPad back to my Mac Pro laptop

    how do I download an excel spreadsheet from my iPad back to Mac Pro. the tech at the store showed my how to upload but not down load.

    It kind of depends on how it is setup to sync. You can try to reverse his steps.
    If you have icloud and use numbers - it will be done by icloud and you don't need to do anything
    If he used file sharing in itunes, you need to drag that document backwards.
    You can also email it.
    And perhaps there are other ways as well.

    Can I open an excel spreadsheet in NUMBERS complete with formulas?

  • When i openned an excel attacment from an e-mail, it locked uped the e-mail. All other functions are ok.

    So if you tap the excel document you don't get a Done button at the top ? If not then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
