Want to store my music and photos on TC. How?

My macbook Pro is full so i bought a time capsule to back up my computer AND to store my photos and music so I can free up memory. What's the best way to do this and still be able to access my music and photos as if they were still on my computer? Is this even possible??

I am starting a new iphoto library on my time capsule for the photos.
It works, but is very slow.
AND: please choose if you want the time capsule for active date (photos) OR back-up.
Of course, technical, you can do both, but you will want a real back-up, which is on aother place when your time capsule chrashes, burns ect....

Yes there is a way to keep content on the tv while deleting it from your laptop. I don't recommend it and would suggest you consider an external (or even a network) drive to move content from your laptop to, rather than simply deleting it. If you want to know more, read THIS

Every time I hook the iPod up to my new computer it wants to delete what is on the iPod and replace with the contents of the iTunes that is currently on the new computer. I don't want to do that. the simplest way would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from /users//music on the source to /users//music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
do the same with your iPhoto library. see this support article for more information (except, you won't have to option-launch iPhoto)

You should be able to copy iTunes purchased music back via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, but for music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs), and if you don't have a copy of it anywhere else, then you will need a third-party program to copy it back from your iPad - there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy it : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

For photos, if they were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then on a Mac you can use Image Capture, iPhoto or Aperture to copy them off : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to an iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

You could sign up for iTunes match and use iCloud photo library with optimisation enabled. The later will keep optimised photos on your device and iTunes match will let you access your whole collection and make room for newer content by removing older unplayed items.

Can I transfer music and photos from my 17" PowerBook G4 to a new MacBook Pro?

My current computer is a 17" PowerBook G4, running OS X 10.5.8. Because of the age of my computer and software limitations I have been unable to use iCloud for anything besides my calendar and contacts.

Yes, flash drive would work fine.
If all you care about is music and photos, as you indicated earlier, then you simply need to copy the entire contents of your Music and Pictures folders from the old computer into the Music and Pictures folders on the new computer. A flash drive will work fine as long as it is big enough. If you want to also move over personal files, typically those are in your Documents folder and possibly your Desktop, so don't forgot about those.
If you want to migrate over all your emails, applications, internet and router settings, web browser favorites, bookmarks, preferences, user names and accounts, etc., then you might consider doing the full migration using Setup Assistant upon the very first boot up. Apple will do this for you, for a fee, as will almost any Apple-authorized computer store (also for a fee, but probably for a bit less than Apple would charge). You can actually do this manually, using the external drive or flash drive, and I have done that myself. But you need to know where the files are to do that properly. The Setup Assistant (which is run upon the very first boot up of the new computer) or Migration Assistant (which is run after you have booted into your new computer at least once) make it pretty easy -- the main thing you need to do is hook the computers up with a firewire cable and follow Apple's instructions; or if that is not possible, the next best thing is to make a complete backup of your old computer onto an external drive using Time Machine (or a cloning program like SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner) and migrate from the backup.

You can delete photo stream photos from iCloud by just deleting them on your iPod. My photo stream photos are automatically deleted from iCloud after 30 days anyway. Just so you are aware, deleting photo stream photos doesn't free up any space in your account as they don't use your personal iCloud account storage.
You can't delete music from iCloud because the music isn't stored in your account; it's stored in the iTunes store. What you are seeing are links to your previously purchased music in the iTuens store, allowing you to redownload them if you want to. You can't remove anything from your list of previous purchases. If you don't want to see these "iTunes in the Cloud" purchases in your song list, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn off Music under Show All. LIke photo stream photos, this music doesn't use any of your personal iCloud account storage.

Does time capsule backup all the music and photo files?

I do not have any files excluded for backup with my time capsule. So, are all my music and photos stored on my MacBook Pro and iMac backed up each time?
Does it also back up the Photostream in iPhoto?
I am a little confused about all this and do not want to lose any of these files if my MBP hard drive crashes.

Time Machine will back up the iTunes Media Folder, which stores all of your music and video.....and it will also back up the iPhoto Library used with iPhoto.
Time Machine does not backup the entire libraries each time that it runs. Time Machine backs up the entire contents of your Mac on the first "master" backup. Once that is done, Time Machine only backs up the changes that have occurred on your Mac since the last backup.
So, if you have made any changes to the iTunes Media Folder or iPhoto Library since the last backup, Time Machine will pick up the change and back that up on the next pass when Time Machine runs.
Best to ask your question about Photostream in the iPhoto support area. My understanding is that images are normally stored in iCloud, but if you have downloaded images permanently to your Mac, they are stored in the iPhoto Library, which will be backed up.

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly Thanks anyway!
