  • Is vision development module in labview 8.6. sufficient for real-time image acquisition and analysis using a webcam

    Hi,
    I'm new to labview and trying to develop an eye-tracker using labview 8.6. It has the vision development module and i was wondering if this was sufficient for real-time image acquisition and processing or would i be needing any other software tools.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello, certainly it is possible and sufficient for real-time tracking!
    About eye tracking - if you need an example, you can find the code here:
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/blogs/kl3m3n/2013/10/08/real-time-face-and-eye-detection-in-labview-u...
    The code uses OpenCV functionalities along with the LabView UI (and some other functions like overlay).
    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Setting up DAQ system for testing (using pressure transducer, linear position sensor and strain gauges)

    Hello,
    I like to get your suggestion in setting up the DAQ system. I am very beginner in this issue.
    These SCXI listed below are what we have in the laboratory. I will use DAQ card 6062E.
    SCXI 1000
    SCXI 1520
    SCXI 1140
    SCXI 1142
    SCXI 1305 , 1302 , 1300
    SCXI 1122
    SCXI 1100
    I will use linear position sensor in my experiment. But I'm not sure which SCXI shoud I connect to this sensor.
    This sensor gives 4-20mA output. it requires +13 to +28Vdc excitation.
    I will use pressure transducer (strain gauge type) which gives 100mV output and requires 10Vdc supply.
    I will use strain gauges 350 ohm.
    Regarding to the number of channels used in my experiment, I will use 1 channel of pressure transducer, 1 channel of linear position sensor and 3 or 4 strain gauges.
    Could you please suggest me which SCXI should be used with pressure transducer, linear position sensor and strain gauges.
    Now I'm thinking to use SCXI 1520 with strain gauges and pressure transducer. Is that ok?
    But I'm not so sure on the linear position sensor which gives current output.
    And regarding to sampling rate, I like to get minimum of 60-70 KS/s for pressure transducer. And around 1KS/s for linear position sensor and 1KS/s for each channel of strain gauge are enough. Can I archieve these sampling rate from the available SCXI modules mentioned before? I attached the datasheet of pressure transducer and linear position sensor for you. Please see attached files.
    I'm reallly look forward for your suggestion.
    Thank you in advance,
    Ganchai.

    Hi Ganchai,
    I would recommend the 1520 with a 1314 terminal block for connecting your pressure transducer and strain gauge. It is designed for excitation, bridge completion and has many other features to fit these applications. For your linear position sensor, try using the 1100 module with an additional precision shunt resistor. For example, our 1308 terminal block has built in 249Ohm shunt resistors for taking current inputs for your 1100. These connections should give you the readings you would like.
    As far as sampling rate goes, you should be fine with your requirements. Good luck and I hope you are succesful.

  • Issues with nested for loops - saving images from a camera

    Hi all,
    I've written a vi. to capture a specific number of images ('Image No') and save these images, outputted to a folder of my choice.  Each image is identified sequentially.  However, I wish to do a number of iterations ('Run') of this capture sequence, such that the filename of each image would be 'Filename (Run)_(Image No).png', e.g. run 5, image 10 would be 'Filename 5_10.png'.  I have tried a nested for loop for this but I receive an error 'Asynchronous I/O operation in progress' (I've attached a printscreen).
    Can anyone assist me in solving this problem? I preiously posted this in machine Vision but got no response (http://forums.ni.com/t5/Machine-Vision/Capturing-image-sequences-issues-with-nested-for-loops/m-p/19...).  Please find attached my vi.
    Kindest regards and thanks,

    Miika,
    the problem is not the filenam, but the name of the folder (AHHHHH!). You try to create the same folder in the outer for loop over and over again.... (it is the error message above the '======', not below )

    In the detailed help for the event structure there is a link to caveats and recommendations for using event structures.  It is a good starting point.
    It is courteous to let the Forum know when your questions are related to a school assignment or homework.  We are glad to help you learn LabVIEW, but do not do your homework for you.
    You have learned the major disadvantage of the sequence structure: It must run to completion before anything else can happen.
    If you are building a state machine (typically a while loop with shift registers enclosing a case structure with one case per state) and having trouble with timing, then think about your requirements. Apparently you have some time delays, but under certain conditions you must terminate a delay/wait and do something else.  One way of doing this is to have a Wait state.  The wait state has a short delay, determined by the minimum time you can delay responding to a changed condition, and a check to see if the required elapsed time has occurred.  If the time has not elapsed, the next state is the Wait state again.  The state machine can repeat any state as often as necessary.  So a 15 second delay could be implemented by going to a Wait state with a one second wait 15 times. Any error or new command will see a response in no more than one second.

  • Want a tutorial on expanding an images ppi and minimising jaggies

    I've been looking online for an up to date method. It's a while since I've had to do this, upsizing a photographic image. It was shot RAW so jpg compression squares is not the issue here. Just getting more pixels out of it for print job. Any links?
    I'm not looking for tutorials in how to make a 110% resize action! Nor a link to a paid product that is 110% resize actions for any given enlargement. All I found i last ten minutes online was this kind of out of date rubbish. While I know in same cases, like designing billboard movie posters finished artists go to the extent of painting out film grain with the wacom, I'm not looking to go that far. More judicious use of filters and unsharpened mask.
    I read once an Adobe engineer say that standard bi-cubic (introduced in CS2/3?) resize is more effective than step-enlarging with any of the algorithms. I haven't found that to be false so far, any opinions.

    And I had searched btw.
    If that were true, you'd probably have found my previous references to Smilla.
    At the risk of re-flaming the dying embers: That's a false positive. :\ </light-hearted-tone>
    Searching forums as you probably [] know is virtually (when not literally) non-deterministic and there often is a high noise-to-signal ratio. My search may have been poor and quick (as in 5 tokens and about 10 minutes) but a search it was. I didn't think to search for Smilla . I actually find the Adobe forums search difficult — even these new improved forums. When I search 'Smilla' for instance, I get 3 hits forum-wide.It has taken me 40 minutes of searching to find out sub-sets of forums must all be (shift-click) selected in filtered searches. So a search of "Adobe Photoshop" results in zero hits on all the search tokens it tried. That's not in the search tips either. For the occasional user these forums have a pretty average interface I think (although big improvement on the previous ones which were woeful).
    I used to answer a lot of Q on Apple discussions and always found it weird when others would get aggressive about somebody having not consulted the manual or searched the forum properly, it's like okay, ignore the question, but don't react with anger, respond graciously or not at all, am I right?
    Anyhow you've provided some useful open source software to the world so I don't want to give you a hard time about nuances. Thanks again.
    Having trouble getting the right balance between flat and dithering/noise with Similla btw, but I'm persevering. It definitely gives different results to Resize BiCubic, probably would need to see printed output to call which way to go is preferable in any given instance as I'm not experienced enough in pre-press to tell. I read the user guide, do you have any other commentary on good Similla technique?

  • Set up of system for acquiring/processing images from digital camera

    Hi all,
    I am new to LabVIEW and I need to choose and install a system camera+software able to acquire and process images. I would like to achieve this as painlessly as possible, by choosing the appropriate equipment. I was thinking of buying an industrian camera with GigE interface amongst the list of NI supported  cameras.
    Once I have that, what software do I need in order to acquire and process images with LabVIEW? Do I need NI-IMAQdx and If I already have NI-IMAQ, do I need to purchase a license for NI-IMAQdx?
    What steps are required to install and configure the system? If anyone can give  suggestions on how to implement this systemit would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    As Paul suggested the software you need will be the NI Vision Acquisition Software, NI-IMAQ alone will not be sufficient.
    Take a look at this tutorial, part one gives a nice bit of background and part two gives you specifics on how to set things up.

    If I remember correctly, LR writes this data into those data into the files if you press Strg + S or if you configure LR to write allways into the xmp files. If this does not work for you, perhaps http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ or http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4529&fileID=4219 can provide more options to you.
    Having Lr do it for me wouldn't work, but calling exiftool and harvesting the return stuff from stdout may be better than what I'm doing now - thanks.

     plugin #2 (Lr <--> NX2 Interface) - I just need to update the main image in a cooked NEF.
    Call me conservative, but I'm really not a fan of writing in these files. It might work with and SDK, but I think there is no public SDK for it.
    In addition I think it is not possible to translate LRs Development-Settings into NX Settings and NX Settings into LR. By updateing the preview you just have a preview with wrong parameters. Sounds week to me. But I would be glad if you can convince that I am wrong.
    Most people think I'm crazy. There is no support in the Nikon-SDK for it, but all I need to update is the main rgb image - nothing else.

  • Is there a tool for Lightroom to apply lens and camera corrections as easily as with DxO?

    DxO is great, but there is something unfixably wrong in the combination of DxO and Photoshop since i installed the plugin, which is jamming Photoshop or Windows. I got my money back, but the tools in Lightroom and Photoshop are not so good and fast as in DxO. Am i maybe missing some great plugin, or some automatic lens correction function?
    Thanks!

    LR has lens profiles and automatic CA removal, and you can choose to enable them by default, if you wish.

    Can anyone please let me know the test data for WS10000129 (1 step approval) and WS14000109(n step workflow).
    Its Urgent!!!!!!!

    Want do you want to know exactly? You need to give more information when you ask a question. As JMB pointed out these are not R/3 workflows. I happen to know these are SRM workflows, but most here probably don't unless they have worked with SRM before.
    Please check the FAQ and Wiki on how to ask questions in these forums so you will get the best response.
    Regarding your question, both take a shopping cart as input so you will need a shopping cart to test.

  • Methods to reduce the CPU Usage for painting the image

    Hi,
    I have developed an application to view images from an IP camera. By this I can simualtaneously view images from about 25 cameras. The problem is that the CPU Usage increases as the no of player increases. My Player is JPanel. which continuously paints the images from camera. The method 'paintImage' is called from another thread's run method. This thread is responsible for taking jpeg images from IP camera.
    Here is the code for this.
    public void paintImage(Image image, int fps) {
    try {
      int width = this.getWidth();
      addToBuffer(image);
      currentImage = image;
      Graphics graphics = this.getGraphics();
      if (isRunning && graphics != null) {
       graphics.drawImage(image, 0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight(), this);
       if(border ==true){
        graphics.setColor(Color.RED);
                          graphics.drawRect(0,0,getWidth()-1, getHeight()-1);
       graphics.setColor(Color.white);
       graphics.setFont(new Font("verdana", Font.ITALIC, 12));
       graphics.drawString("FPS : " + fps, width-60, 13);
       this.fps = fps;
       if (isRandomRecord) {
        graphics.setColor(new Color(0, 255, 0));
        graphics.fillArc((getWidth() - 10), 5, 10, 10, 0, 360);
    } catch (Exception e) {
      e.printStackTrace();
    Can someone please help me to solve this problem so that the CPU usage can be reduced.

    Can you give me more detail information about how to use
    an automated profiling tool You run it and excercise your app. Then it presents stats on number of times each method was called and time spent in each method, plus other stuff. Using those two stats you can zero in on the areas that are most likely to yield resullts.

  • Image Capture and/or Canon MF4350d -- How do I set up Auto Document Feeder?

    I can't find a setting for it within Image Capture, and I was told by a Canon customer service agent that she had a similar customer with a similar problem who had to get some updated Image Capture software from Apple to fix the problem. If that's true, I looked for the Image Capture software but couldn't find it, and if not, I'd love to know how to make the ADF work for me. The printer says it can do it, but I can't get my computer to ask the right way...
    thanks in advance for your help!

    Hello there and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    I am not aware of a new version of Image Capture, apart from the one that is included with 10.6 but this is not available for 10.5.
    I don't have an MF4300 series to test (I have the MF4680 and 4270) so I cannot check the settings you should see with the Canon ScanGear application for your MF4350. However, I think the issue is that Image Capture does not open the Scan Gear viewer and therefore you do not get the option of where to scan from. So instead of using Image Capture to scan, try using Preview and selecting the MF4350 via the File > Import Image menu.
