  • How can I sync my iPhone 4 with a new MacBook Pro without losing all my data and settings?

I used to sync my iPhone 4 with a PC running Windows XP until the hard drive died. Thankfully, I already had a backup of all my iTunes media (Songs, TV Shows, Movies, Podcasts, Apps, etc), so when I bought a new MacBook Pro, transferring my iTunes library was easy.
My problem now is that I want to sync my iPhone 4 with my new MacBook Pro without losing all the data and settings. I have already used iTunes to back it up and transfered my purchases onto the mac. I just need help to sync the iPhone with the Mac without losing app data, emails, contacts, settings.
Everytime I click on the tabs (to sync contacts, apps, music, et al), I get an error message that reads:
"Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone “Ryan's iPhone” will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."
What do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • How do I sync my iPhone 4S with a new iTunes library without losing data?

    Hi,
I have been using an iPhone 4S for a few months now. Yesterday my PC crashed and I had to reboot the whole system.
So, obviously I had to reinstall iTunes.
Now, when I am connecting my phone with iTunes, it is informing me that my phone was synced with another iTunes library and if I sync it with this one, it will erase all data and do a fresh sync with the current library.
I have alot of important data, photos, contacts, messages, music on my phone now. I can't do without that.
How do I sync without losing my data? ? Help!
    Tarun

can't if you do not have access to the old library (the usual workaround is to backup the old library and import it to the new itunes)
    for important data...
sync your existing contacts with icloud, your text messages will not be disrupted, music will sync with whatever music you have on your new itunes, photos shoud still be in the camera roll (I would sync them to photostream before you sync, just in case).   Any photos on your phone that are not in camera roll or photostream... if you lost those pictures with the computer crash I would take screen shots (lock button + home button at the same time) of each photo so they show up in the camera roll.  App data may or may not be lost.  In my experience, it depends on the app.  Some of the apps recognize your apple ID and sync data over the internet with servers, some do not.  I would take note of important data (such as passwords in a password keeper if you have such an app) just in case if you lose that data.

  • Can I sync my iPhone with my new MacBook Pro without losing my data & apps?

I was hoping to sync my iPhone (which is currently registered with my PC) with my new MacBook Pro. Is it possible to transfer my apps to my new MacBook or alternatively, sync my iPhone to my MacBook without losing all the apps?
I'm a little wary after syncing an iPod to a new laptop and losing all of my data, so thought I should check this before making any drastic changes...
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions,
A manual backup will do what you want. Here's how to:
Make sure your iTunes account is set up on your new Mac. Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases (Apps and bought media) by choosing File->transfer purchases in the iTunes menu.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

  • How do I sync my iPhone 4S to my new Macbook Pro without erasing my iPhone?

I know this has been asked many times and I have tried a lot of the ways that people have said to do it. For example, I have my old iTunes library and i have transfeered it to my Macbook but my iPhone still does not reconize it as the "same" computer. I rather not use any third party software or anything similar. I have actually done this before with a windows computer (I did this about 6 or 7 months ago) but I cannot figure out what I did so that I didnt have to erase my iPhone.

If you move the library properly it is the "same" library. If you have to import media into an empty library you're getting it wrong.
At the simplest level you simply copy the entire iTunes folder from user's music on the source computer to user's music on the target copmputer. It only gets complicated if you've started using a non-standard media folder or don't have the Keep... and Copy... options enabled.
See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device if you have to go down that road.

Thank you I will try that if there is nothing else that i can do.

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • I am unable to sync my iPad with my new MacBook Air without losing all photos even though both are linked to the same iTunes account

I am unable to sync my iPad with my new MacBook Air without losing all photos even though both are linked to the same iTunes account

Transferring photos from your computer has nothing to do with your iTunes account/Apple ID.
Photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring photos from another, all photos on the iPad that were transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPad first - even if the photos were transferred from the old or different computer to the new computer being used for syncing.
When transferring photos from your computer, what is named the iPod Photo Cache is created on your computer for the photos that are transferred and why you see new photos being transferres are optimized before the actual transfer process. The iPod Photo Cache for these photos on the computer the photos were transferred from is not available on your new computer.
Since all photos on your iPad that were transferred from the old or different computer should remain on that computer, transfer the photos from that computer to your new computer. These photos on your iPad will be erased with the first sync but will be re-transferred along with a new iPod Photo Cache for these photos being created on your new computer.

  • My laptop got stolen and I want to sync my current ipad with the new Macbook

    Hi all,
Unfortunately, my previous macbook was stolen, and now I just bought the new one, and I would like to sync my iPad with this new laptop. However, when I plug the iPad, there was a message from iTunes saying that my iPad is not sync with this computer and asked if I want to "erase and sync" with this new computer. Actually, I re-download all the necessary applications to iTunes on the new Macbook already, but still am not sure whether this "erase and sync" will keep the data of my iPad. There are some data such as money transactions, passwords, and game saves, etc. which I do not want to lose and don't really have backups. Would "erase and sync" remove all data of current installed applications on the iPad? Is there a way to synchronize my iPad with this new Macbook without losing data?
    Thanks,
    Kann

I have already authorized this computer with my Apple ID. I think this only allows me to re-download all purchased applications to the iTunes library again without re-purchasing them. However, iTunes still keeps asking me if I want to "erase and sync" or not.

  • Is there an easy way to sync an iPhone 5 to a new Macbook Pro Retina

    Hi Guys,
Thanks in advance for helping me out, I think this question has been asked in various forms but I was hoping to be a bit more specific.
I've just got a new Macbook Pro Retina 13", which is awesome.
The first thing I want to do is sync up my iPhone 5, which im thinking is going to be a nightmare.
Im almost certain if I connect my iPhone ill be presented with the option to 'Erase and Sync'.
Basically, without transfering all my photos, music and apps to a hard-drive and then over onto this new MBP is there a way to sync up without effectively starting from scratch and spending hours with a big transfer?
    Thanks again.

What do you want to sync? You can use it to just sync your music, movies, and tv shows if you want and don't want to have to erase your apps. You can do the same things just as quickly with iCloud and even more things such as contact syncing, calendar syncing, and more.

  • How do I sync the contents of my iPhone 4s with my new Macbook Pro?

My iPhone has content on it that is not backed up up anywhere else because my old computer died.
Is there anyway to move the content from my phone onto my new laptop?

excellent point about time machine, using that monkey now. Too bad it's not a real time machine though, drats.
Also I'm new to this forum, but thought there would be some apple people here. I'll have to put my question in with them, I'm sure it will be high priority
RE: One Way Sync I'm well aware of this (and I have other complaints about the accessability of those media's as well) My response/question though is specifically about audio, and even more specifically something I did not mention is that I would need to wipe my phone in order to re-sync. Is there no way to sync with a new library and keep the contents of your phone on your phone, allowing a user access to read and write, or in the case of audio files, just write or trash/remove?
This draw back just makes me want to unlock the phone so I can hack in, I just don't have the time or desire to use my time in that way. It was already hard enough to get the SDK working.
    Thanks for the response though.
