Warning QT 7.3 update ruins Quicktime Pro features

Don't install this update, if you own Final Cut Studio 5 and use Quicktime Pro it will ruin your registration. Thanks a lot Apple, way to make my production machine temporarily useless! I'm going to consider buying Premiere before updating to FCP 6 now. I was going to in January, but I'm so disappointed right now you don't even understand. I bet they won't release a fix for this in a timely fashion either.
Ridiculous!

The fix : I installed Leopard, and it fixed my Quicktime Pro registration. Horray. I'm glad I wasn't forced to purchase/ upgrade to Final Cut Pro 6 before 2008.
The oddity : This quicktime pro registration issue only affected 1 of my macs.
The saving grace : While I was ranting and confused by why compressor kept exporting video @ 320x240 and figuring out that Quicktime Pro had been disabled I was able to export the quicktime videos on the laptop with leopard and Quicktime 7.3 suprisingly. Video was done on time, no biggie.
I checked at work today and noticed that 4 of our macs (ppc, intel) had the 7.3 update and Tiger and they were not affected.
Sorry for posting before doing extensive research, I was nervous because I needed the videos exported. My complaining is over, beware ye updaters. I'd avoid the Quicktime 7.3 update.
Thanks

  • How do I update to quicktime pro?

How do I update to Quicktime Pro? I have the codes but system preferences screen does not look like what is pictured in the instructions. What did I do wrong?

Nothing. You need to download the QuickTime 7 player and apply the code there.

  • Updating to quicktime pro

i just updated to quicktime pro and i'm trying to rotate a video. i've followed the directions (clicking 'window', and 'show movie properties') but I do not see the areas described in the help section with which to rotate the video. i'm not sure my update changed my quicktime version to pro. when i click 'help' and quicktime it shows versions 7.6.2. can anyone help me with this issue?

Make sure in the Movie Properties windows that you've selected the "Video Track". If you see an item that says "hinted video", that is not the correct item. Then when you've selected the correct video track, click on the Visual Settings tab and you'll find the buttons to rotate the video there.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgrading itunes without losing Quicktime Pro features

I am running Quicktime Pro 7.4.1. Is there a way to upgrade to itunes 8.0 without losing the the Pro features? When I upgraded to itunes 7.6.1.9 I lost the Quicktime Pro features and had to pay for the program again.

Your current key is good for all versions of QuickTime 7 running on Windows. QuickTime 6 and earlier keys won't work with QuickTime 7.

  • I cannot enter the key code for updating to QuickTime Pro 7 as there is no Icon in Preferences and no Registration option in menu?

I have followed the clear instructions to enter the purchased key code for QuickTime Pro 7. There are two options offered:-
    1. Go into Preferences and select the QuickTime Player icon and enter the code that way.
    2. Open QuickTime Player and open up ‘registration’ and enter the key code.
For whatever reason I have neither option available to me although QuickTime player is on my system and I use it regularly. It is version 10 build (118). I have run software updates and there is no upgrade available. I have downloaded the latest version and tried to load it but this fails because the system finds a version already available. I have attempted to uninstall but whilst it moves it from the Application folder, it remains on the Mac as it is part of the system files. So I cannot use the Pro version. The iMac is a 27” Intel about a year old and has all the software updates available to me installed.
Any offers for suggestions or past experiences that can help me overcome this conundrum?

Both answers were spot on. I made the mistake yesterday of downloading the version for Leopard in my haste. I also thought the issue was related to having to uninstall the current version X.
So the moral of the episode is check the version you have and make certain you download the correct version for your system. All works now.
    Thanks chaps!

  • Update to Quicktime Pro not working

Just bought the Quicktime Pro license key from the Apple Store. When I input my name and the key and click "Apply", a label states "QuickTime 7 Pro". However, this information seems not to persist: After closing the registration window and re-opening the same window later, it states "Buy Quicktime Pro...". All the menus still contain the "Pro" label and I am unable to save any movie.
I uninstalled Quicktime and re-installed it with a fresh download from the Apple site. To no avail.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong here?

My user account belongs to the local Administrators group. Nevertheless, I tried to use the function "Run as Administrator" function to make sure, Vista really runs Quicktime with all privileges. Did not work.
For the second time, I uninstalled the software, then I deleted manually the folder C:\program files\ (since QT Uninstall leaves tons of files there - no wonder I can't get past the problem).
I rebooted the system and downloaded the setup files again. Ran the installer "as administrator". Ran Quicktime Pro as Administrator. It still doesn't remember the Pro functions after having unlocked that functionality using the key obtained from Apple.
At this level, I have to give up. I spent two afternoons on this and I need to get things done. It's probably not a QT Pro problem and I might need to restage my computer in the future (I upgraded XP Pro to Vista Ultimate - instead of doing a fresh installation). However, since QT Pro is so far the only software giving me a headache, I am not really feeling the urge to re-install the operating system.
Maybe an upcoming QT release will fix the problem...

  • Anyone tried updating to quicktime pro using OS 10.4.11?

I'm running OS 10.4.11 on a G5 PPC and I want to upgrade my version of QuickTime Player 7.6.4 to QT 7 pro. According to Apple's web site, I must have at least OS 10.5 to upgrade. Is that actually a fact?
Just wondered if anyone has successfully tried upgrading their version of QT Player to the latest QT 7 pro on a system running 10.4?

Do you know if QT Pro will import audio tracks from iTunes into movies?
Not in the sense of doing so automatically in the same manner as other apps like GarageBand or iMovie. But, yes, you can do so manually.
When I try to paste the iTunes audio file into a QT movie, it only creates a "text" track with the name of the audio file. Won't create a new audio track?
Try opening the source file in QT 7 Pro, select the entire track or the portion thereof you wish to paste into the video file, use the Command-C or Edit men "Copy" option to copy the data (i.e., a reference that ponts to the date), select the target video, move the playhead to the desired insertion point, either use Command-V, the Edit menu "Add", or Edit menu "Add to Selection and Scale" option (as needed) to paste new audio to your target file, and Save or Export the final product as you may require.
I'm wondering if this is normal or not.
I suspect it may be normal for the workflow you employed. Basically, it sounds like the data reference was only to the audio data filename and not to the data itself. That is why you have to open the data in a separate QT "player" and copy a reference to the actual data to get it to paste/load into the new file. Also be aware that audio can be copied from other files that contain more than just audio. In this case, simply open the source file in QT 7 Pro, extract the audio track you want to a new "player" window, and then follow the instructions above as if audio had been in an audio file.

  • HT3678 None of the Quicktime Pro features are available after registration.

I registered my Quicktime as indicated on the Support website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678 but not one of the features are now available. Can anybody help?

  • So now I own Quicktime Pro, I can never update Quicktime?

I decided to buy Quicktime Pro last month. Then this morning I am notified that a Quicktime update was available. As I begin installing it I am warned that I will lose Quicktime Pro should I proceed and will have to purchase it again!
WHAT!? This is ridiculous. After PAYING for Quicktime Pro I am now unable to update Quicktime without losing Quicktime Pro. Please tell me I have this wrong.
Is this how paying customers are treated? I would never use pirate software, but things like this almost makes you understand why some people do.
      Windows XP Pro

In the installation warning it says:
"IMPORTANT NOTICE TO QUICKTIME PRO USERS:
INSTALLATION OF QUICKTIME 7 WILL DISABLE THE QUICKTIME PRO FUNCTIONALITY IN PRIOR VERSIONS OF QUICKTIME. IF YOU PROCEED WITH THIS INSTALLATION, YOU MUST PURCHASE A NEW QUICKTIME 7 PRO KEY TO REGAIN QUICKTIME PRO FUNCTIONALITY. AFTER INSTALLATION, VISIT www.apple.com/quicktime TO PURCHASE A QUICKTIME 7 PRO KEY."
If I update Quicktime, surely that makes whatever I had before a 'prior version' of Quicktime. I have Quicktime 7.1.6. If I update to Quicktime 7.2, in my understanding of English, anything below 7.2 then becomes a 'prior version'.
I was going to try email someone at Apple for clarification, but they make it impossible to find anyone to email on their site.
Thanks for the reply Dick Napoli, but can I get a 2nd and 3rd opinion as to what will happen to my Quicktime Pro if I upgrade? I really don't want to waste my money.

  • Quicktime Pro Update not posible !?!?!?!?! (sorry german language)

although I don't speak or understand German, I think i might know what you are asking...
you had Quicktime Pro 6, it was valid, registered, worked great....
you upgraded to Quicktime Pro 7. but now its no longer registered and you dont have your Pro capabilities.
Its well documented from Apple Quicktime site that if you upgrade to QT7 you will need to buy a new Registration. Yep apple forcing you to shell out another $30 US for a code.
I complained to Apple about it as I had QT6.5.2 Pro and worked great and when I upgraded to QT7 I lost my Pro capabilities... part of Apple's claim, QT7 Pro is different enough and better than the older QT6.

  • QuickTime Pro 7.1.3 not displaying info on websites

Since the last security update my QuickTime Pro 7.1.3 isn't opening or displaying files/clips on websites. It just shows a big Q with a ? in it.
I've tried uninstalling, downloading a copy of QuickTime 7, but that's not fixing it either.
QuickTime also won't recognized my Sirius Radio
I'm not a techie, so really plain instructions please.

I found this posting on the boards and it DID solve my QuickTime problem. You may wish to try it. I did not need to restart my computer. I only needed to reload Flash after I made the recommended change and restart my browser. The posting was:

I figured it out...you will need to open quicktime.
    -go to quicktime preferences.
    -go to the browser menu
    -on the advanced settings
    -click on MIME settings
-the Miscellaneous file settings needs to be unchecked.
    restart your computer.

  • I must be clueless...just purchased quicktime pro...need some help

so I just purchased quicktime pro...I purchased it on my work computer, because I was bored...and figured I would take the code home, and put it on my mac book. I didn't put the code or key on my work computer at all.
I guess my question is do I need the internet to activate my quick time pro at home? because I don't have the internet at home. I know I know...everyone does.
I did go to a coffee shop where they have wireless and I put the numbers in (on my mac book), and it didn't do anything...it just highlighted the code, and that is it. does it install anywhere that I can physically see? or does it just turn on the quicktime pro features?

I'm thinking I put the code in my mac book, and figured I needed to see something visual installing and didn't realize that it just turns it on.
Actually, there are a number of indicators. If you open the "Register" tab in "QuickTime Preferences...", you should see that your registration number remains as entered. (Should have been erased if your entries are rejected.) In addition, it should now say "QuickTime Pro 7" below your registration number. If you open the "About QuickTime Player" menu option, the QT blue "Q" should now have the word "Pro" superimposed on it. Lastly, all of the menu options that were previously grayed/covered by the word "Pro" are now working.

  • Installed 10.4.3 and lost QuickTime Pro

Hope this hasn't already been asked...
I recently upgraded to Tiger and it caused me to lose my QuickTime Pro features. I have my Key and Part Number from my online purchase. Any way I can reinstate my purchasing of Pro without buying it again?
    Thanks.

If you have a key for QuickTime Pro 6, then you'll need to purchase a new key for Tiger. Only QuickTime Pro 7 works with Tiger.

  • Quicktime Pro Registration key

    Hello,
I migrated to Leopard, my MacBook did not like it, the Genius Bar came to the rescue, they wiped out my user and I have to re-install most of my applications.

Thank you for a great soft with never ending improvements.
    merci,
