Way of allowing car stereo to control playlists

I don't know if anyone else has figured this out but I thought I would post so others could enjoy.
I got the ISIMPLE ipod interface for my honda civic and hooked it up to my new 80g ipod classic. It sounded great and the seek buttons advance to the next song, but there was no way to control playlists. The click wheel on my ipod stinks compared to my 1st gen ipod, so I tried to find something else to take care of playlist selection. Every remote out there for car applications don't have playlist selection (Or they are hard to use, or they don't work with the classic). So...Here's my fix:
Using coverflow, the Isimple interface allows the seek buttons to change from album to album. While in a song, hit the menu button, which returns to coverflow then seek through to find the album you want then hit the middle button to get to the songs, then hit the middle button again to start the song.
So...Convert your playlists to albums instead. To do this go to your library and right click on the songs you want, click info and then change the album to the same thing for all the songs you have selected (Make sure the artwork is the same, or you'll get a few different versions of the album.
I tried this last night and have been enjoying an easy safe way to change music lists in the car...Hope it works for you, and sorry if someone has already figured this out.

Uh. sounds like a good way to screw up your song library to me. I don't think you want to tag your songs to the wrong albums. Or maybe I am misunderstaning your methodology.

  • Honda stereo cannot control iPhone 5 music via USB

I have a 2012 Honda Fit with the stock stereo. I have been able to play the music off of my iPhone 5 when connected to the car stereo via the USB/Thunderbolt cable. It seems after I upgraded to iOS 8 that I can no longer hear or control the iPhone from the car stereo's controls. I can see on the display that it playing song 14/401 (or whatever number) but no music.
I am able to use my Plantronics Bluetooth ear bud to answer & make phone calls.
The phone is able to charge while plugged in & I am able to sync with iTunes on my desktop PC.
Is this a Honda Issue or Apple not providing compatibility with the car stereo?
    Anybody else having this issue?
    Thanks!

I have tried all the suggestions above.
    Restoring, Reseting, Unpairing etc...
It "works" for a little time, but after a couple hours or so it starts failing again.
All the fixes reported are temporary solutions, we need a definitive solution

  • IPOD frozen after use with Jensen car stereo with IPOD control cable

I recently installed a Jensen MSR7007 stereo and connected the IPOD mini with a special Jensen cable that allows the IPOD to be controlled from the radio without having to touch the IPOD. It works beautifully and the IPOD display reads "JENSEN RADIO" while it is playing. However when I disconnected the IPOD it was frozen (locked up) with the Jensen Radio display still on it. It was inoperable when I disconnected it and I couldn't even turn it off.
    Please Help.

I am having a similar problem - I just purchased a pioneer DEH-P690UB indash car stereo, but I can not get the radio to recognize my iPod mini (N/A USB). The installar has a newer iPod, which worked when he tested the system, so I have been looking for the new firmware to see if that will help.
Can anyone direct me to the firm ware downloads?

Others have commented on this too.  It seems to be one of the 'improvements' of the newer version you are supposed to embrace with joy as an exciting new development.  You can send feedback to Apple but realize you may be perceived as standing in the path of  progress.

  • HT2693 My car stereo is holding a playlist that no longer exists. How do I get rid of it?

I removed some playlists on my iPhone to streamline how many playlists I do have, but my car stereo still shows those old playlists. I am not sure if it is a car issue or a phone issue. I reset the car stereo, but that didn't do anything.

If you are signed into your current iCloud ID you shouldn't be prompted for the old ID unless there is another service still signed into it.  Check the ID in iMessage (Settings>Messages>Send & Receive), FaceTime (Settings>FaceTime), Game Center (Settings>Game Center), the iTunes store (Settings>iTunes & App Store), etc. to make sure you aren't still signed in with the old ID.  If you are, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID.

  • IPhone 5s starts over playlist every time car is turned off and one or gets unplugged from car stereo

So I have a iPhone 5s and every single freaking time I turn the car off and then back on / or unplug the phone it starts playing music from the very first song alphabetically so basically what that means is every time I turn the car off and on the same stupid song plays every single freaking time I turn my car on!!!! I am ready to throw this phone like a frisbee over this. I play my music off of playlists I set up and I play them on shuffle but for whatever reason (now this didn't happen much in the past with my 4s, however towards the end of the 4s last couple months I had it... it was starting to get a little weird as well with where it stopped and started on the playlist when the car was turned off but nothing like this 5s) but with the new 5S every single time the car stereo get turned off and then on it does this.  I have a newer car stereo probably three years old with a USB sticking out of the front so you just plug the USB directly into the face and it goes straight in and should function in theory but this is crap. I use authentic Apple USB cables for the 5S but just cannot figure this out I've made sure I do not have repeat on I've turned shuffle off turn shuffle back on sync iPhone  etc.... what the heck s the problem? For such an expensive phone and a Supposed highly advanced technology by Apple this should be the last thing this phone should be doing. Is it the phone or is it the software whatever it is this is a serious problem for because when it comes to my music you don't mess with my music! I have mentioned this to other 5S owners and they have also experienced the same issue with their car stereos well. Why is it such a mind-boggling problem to just have the song play from where you left it? I thought maybe updating the phone with the latest and greatest software update with maybe fix the problem but no it didn't do a single thing. HELP!!!!! :(

Status update: I tried my roommates iPhone five and I got similar results disappearing playlist when phone is disconnected or stereo is turned off in car, starts playing songs alphabetically when turned back on were plugged back in. So I know it's just not my phone it's a more universal problem with the 5 / 5S. I talk about this problem with customers I come a cross at work some have similar problems. I also try my phone on their car stereo and I also get similar results. My roommate who has the iPhone 5 recently got rid of it and got a Samsung note 3 this phone has no problem remembering where it was in the song when it was disconnected from the car stereo just like it's supposed to it just works. You turn the car off music stops turn the car on music begins playing where it was on the playlist it was playing in the same exact order it doesn't give you problems like the iPhone 5 / 5s. Also some customers I have talked to who have the 5C don't seem to really have this problem.

  • Since my upgrade to IOS 6, cannot control music from car stereo

Since upgrading to IOS 6 I cannot control the music from my car stereo, nor are the artist, song, or album  names no longer displayed. Worked with IOS 5.

Do you drive a BMW? If so, my friend has the same problem. It is a problem with your car's software, probably, not the iPhone.

  • A cheap way to connect my iPod to my car stereo?

I want to wire my iPod directly into my car stereo. Is there a way to do this without spending hundreds of dollars?

b Various Methods to Connect to a Car Stereo System, or Listen to Your iPod in the Vehicle
There are several ways to connect any iPod (or MP3 player) to a car audio system. There are also many opinions on which works better than others. Here is my synopsis:
    b Best Way:
Direct connection via the dock connector or headphone jack to a mini-jack input into your car stereo. Not many low/moderate-end cars have this feature yet, but it is becoming more popular. Some aftermarket auto stereo units have this feature. There are also some after-market, fairly expensive adaptors that hook into your existing car stereo that will provide a direct connection. Pretty slick, but pricey. If money is no object, a clean way to go. See:
    http://www.myradiostore.us/auxadapters/blitzsafe/blitzsafe-m-link-ipod-interface .html
    http://www.theistore.com/ipod2car.html
    http://www.mp3yourcar.com/productdetails.asp?productID=175
    b Better:
Connect your iPod to a cassette adaptor and play your tunes through your car's cassette player. In my opinion (via testing in my car using the accessories I have), it has better fidelity than FM transmitters. Some new cars no longer come with a cassette player, so it may not be an option.
    b Good:
Attach one of the many FM transmitter devices to your iPod and play the tunes through an unused FM station. Some noticeable degradation and distortion may be heard - depending on the sensitivity of your ears and the airwave congestion in your area.
    b Marginal:
Attach an external speaker system to the iPod and play it in the car. Workable, but not too good - unless you spring for a $300+ Bose (or similar) system. But why? Only if your vehicle has no Stereo system, perhaps.
Whichever you choose, power the iPod through a DC adapter running from the car. See the reviews below for choices on all the accessories mentioned above, and more.
See the reviews of various accessories at the iPodLounge here:
    http://www.ipodlounge.com/index.php/reviews/review_grades/
I have read both positive and negative reviews of each method, and within method, there are great variations in performance of different manufacture's systems – and peoples’ opinions of their performance. Some cassette adaptors work poorly, some better. I got lucky with my choices and have not had any big problems, yet...
BTW - I have a Belkin cassette adaptor and an iTrip Mini FM transmitter (as well as a Newer Technology RoadTrip!+). Using the same song in the same car, I found that the cassette adaptor worked significantly better for me than the FM transmitters.

  • Ever since I downloaded IOS 7 my car stereo does not display artist, track etc. Is there a way to fix this?

After I Downloaded IOS 7 when I play my music on my car stereo it no longer displays the artist name and track. Is there a fix for this issue?

Try closing the Scrabble app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Scrabble app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Scrabble app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If neither of the above fix it then you could try deleting it and re-sync or re-download it via the Purchased tab.

  • Best way to connect my iPod to my car stereo?

My iTrip is a joke. What works best when wanting to connect my iPod directly to my car stereo when I must use the CD changer plug-in behind the stereo?

Kind of depends on what kind of stereo you have and
what options it has... is your stereo an aftermarket
stereo? Are you saying that you already have a cd
changer plugged into the aux input on your stereo?
I have an CD changer plug in on the back of my stereo, but there is nothing currently plugged into it. It's a stock radio with only a CD player, not a cassette. I need to plug something into the back of the radio, but I don't know which is the best kind to get. Thanks for the help.

This is my new Nano that i have purchaced a few months ago and havent had the chance to play around with it until my car was finished and ready to drive.

I have a Ipod NANO 1.0.2pc model and when i plug it into the car stereo (my stereo head deck is hidden away from sight) i have to scroll through 150 songs that i have over the car head deck. I through i was able to use my nano to select albums and songs?? Now i have to ask my passenger to look under the dash to click the next song. When nano is plugged in, the song title shows that is currently playing. But i cant use the nano keys in order to shuffle, chose and scroll albums or songs. Only throught the car stereo.... What the ****? :/

    Contact PIONEER for a work-a-round.

  • Enabling Disk Use For Car Stereo

    Hi there,
I'm wanting to connect my iPod via my Car Stereo's USB port, and control the ipod still so I can choose which songs to play.
I was told if I enabled disk use AND manually manage songs, it would allow me to do this, but so far, after a few seconds of reading the ipod, songs are played in a random order through my car stereo and I have no control from the iPod.
Please explain what I need to do.

I don't think so. Disk use allows you to use the iPod as a storage device - as far as I know you cannot play music while it's in Disk mode, nor can you take audio from the USB port on the iPod. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!). Manually managing songs is the method for adding or removing content from the iPod, not a means of controlling it from a head unit.
Whether you can connect your iPod to your car and how it will work depends upon the car, model and year of manufacture. I used a Dension adaptor that plugs from the Dock connector on the iPod to the back of the stereo in my Mazda 3. I can choose any album, genre or playlist but usually I set the ipod to "shuffle all songs" mode and then plug it into the adaptor. Once connected, I can control track skip and track back from the steering column but I cannot see track information on the car's display. The iPod turns off and back on with the car ignition.
However, my sister-in-law has a Mazda MX-5, but her (Bose) stereo will only play from the first five playlists and that's it! Quite who thought that was a good idea, I cannot imagine! I believe this issue has been corrected on newer models.
So you see, two models from the same company give different results. Oh, and by the way, when I had the adaptor fitted, my supplier tried to sell me an FM transmitter type adaptor and I recall having a very heated discussion with them about this as they had already fitted the wired adaptor I wanted to a friend's Mazda 3.
My advice is that you see a car audio specialist who can then advise you (properly, I hope) on what options are available to you and your car. Look up Dension though, but treat with caution their claim about using USB. I've noticed that you and Kenichi have exchanged a few more comments while I'm writing this, so I now know you have a Sony head unit. It may not be able to display the iPod screens, but I'm sure Sony make iPod adaptors for their head units..
I still think you need to consult a car audio specialist, who knows what they are talking about. I think even your local Halfords may be able to help. It can't help to try them.
    Phil.

  • Connecting ipod nano 7th generation through car stereo usb cord.

When I connect my ipod nano 7th generation to my car stereo through a usb cable, (using a lightning adapter),  I am not able to control my music through the ipod, but only through the car stereo system. The car stereo system won't allow me to play my playlist on shuffle mode nor can I control the ipod itself through the device when it's plugged in. I have to unplug it and make new playlist selections. Any solutions?

I am having the same problem with mine.  I have a Hyundai Sonota and can pair with my Ipod Nano but cannot connect.  I also would appreciate any help.  Thanks!!

  • IPhone won't work well with Pioneer DEH-5900IB Car Stereo

I have installed Pioneer DEH-5900IB recently and have connected my iPhone (firmware ver. 1.1.1) to this car stereo through Pioneer CD-I200 (interface cable for iPod). Then the iphone certainly asked me whether I want to switch to the airplane mode, and I said no. The music played immediately, HOWEVER the iphone could not charge (i.e. no lightening symbol), as well as 5900IB showed the message "error a0" with no playlist showing up. I could still change the song by using the navigation button (i.e. by clicking the wheel left or right side) though. Is there any possible solution to this problem?
I don't really want to connect the iphone to this car stereo via AUX, since the sound quality it could provide was obviously inferior to the direct connection through CD-I200.
Any suggestion, idea or even rumor on this will be really appreciated.
    Thanks!
    - SW

Hey swkim... I just spent an hour outside fiddling around with the iPhone/Pioneer and I think I may have found a temporary workaround... let me know if this works for you!:
With the car ignition on, and no iPhone attached to the CDi200 cord, for this first time only (to get out of the 'Error-A0' rut) reset the Pioneer reciever (on mine it involves pushing that small indentation with a pen on the front of the receiver). Hard-Poweroff your iPhone (holding the top button until the red slider comes up to power off the iphone and go ahead and turn the iphone off). The receiver should be on in its reset mode (ie. demo mode or whatever). Now, plug in the CDi200 cord into the powered-off iPhone. It should activate the iPhone. Don't press any buttons - just let it power up by itself. In 100% of the cases i've tried this way, the Pioneer Receiver will switch to the iPod state and stay in the Ready functional mode until the iphone fully boots up, and then it will start to play, charge and work normally without the dreaded error-A0!
Now - the trick to getting this to work each subsequent time without having to reset the receiver each time (because if we have to reset the receiver each time it would be pointless - our tuner settings are gone, possibly BTooth settings gone if your receiver has that option, etc):
When you're ready to stop the car or turn off the ignition, do so. Feel free to detach the faceplate, etc if necessary. the Iphone in the cases I tried were still attached to the CD-i200 cord as I turned off the machine. After the receiver powered off, I unhooked the CD-i200 cord from the iPhone. When I was ready to start it up again, I first turned on the ignition, hooked on the receiver faceplate, and allowed it to boot up (no need to 'reset' the receiver). The trick is though that I made sure the iPhone is now hard-powered off again before attaching it to the CD-i200 cord. Now, attach the powered-off iPhone to the cord. it will cause it to turn on and boot up again... but now (in 100% of the times I've tried so far), the receiver will now see it in its Ready state and will work!
Anyways, let me know if this works for you. If this does, it would suggest that the problem may be with how an iPhone left powered-on tells the receiver where to resume playing a song. The upside of this workaround is that it doesn't require a reset of the receiver each time (thankfully) and, while connected in a working state (ie. non error-A0 state), it also survives Source changes so one is free to change to the TUner mode, etc, and back to the ipod source. The downside though is that one has to hard-power off the iPhone each time before connecting it to the receiver (annoying but not a biggy for me as long as this works), and instead of resuming from the spot in the song last played, it starts from track1 since the iPhone was reset (also not a big deal for me). The other downside I found is that, if the order sequence of the above workaround is changed and I end up with an 'error-A0' message, then I have to go back and reset the receiver (annoying since I'd lose my Tuner settings, ?possibly my Equalizer settings, and ?possibly my BTooth device settings on my DEH-7900BT)...
