  • Cost Center Budget-Cost element wise

    Dear SAP Gurus,
My client needs to create cost center budgets cost element wise. For e.g. Salary paid (code 430000) in Development Cost center (code 9901).
We now use KPZ2 to create cost center budgets and KP06 for cost element planning. Kindly guide.
    Regards,
    Siva

    Hi Ramesh,
Thank you for the reply. I did suggest them to use KP06 but they require some sort of validation when posting an expense (cost element) to and cost center.
For e.g. If the travel budget for Marketing cost center is $1000, they need the system to prevent posting once that amount is exceeded.
Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Siva

  • Bring profit center and cost center  hierarchy from R3 to BW in BI 7.0

As you would for any other infoobject
Activate the business content hierarchy datasources on R3 for cost centre and profit centre
Go into BW - replicate the metadata
Then just connect via transformations or transfer rules the datasources to yoru infosources or master data objects
Create an infopackage per hierarchy!!!!! - press the button available hirachies from OLTP - click the one you want on the left - fire it off
Then repeat new infopackages for all hierachies

  • RE - Change profit center and cost center after LO activated

Hi ppl, One question. Is there any harm if we change the profit center and cost center of the business entity, building, rental unit only after the lease out has been activated?

No need to change the cost center, as you want to have valid from date as 01.10.2010.
Having profit center before that date is not an issue and does not have any negative impact.

  • Functionality of Profit Center and Cost Center

    Hi,
I am unable to understand the functionality of Profit center and cost center, I know that cost center represents area within an organization for which you will like to see the expenses for a particular time period. for example in an organisation we have three cos centers Accounts, HR and Admin. whenever you post an accounting document in FI you will specify the cost center to which the expense relates. but in some cases when you post an expense and give the relative cost center the profit center is also driven by the system. why is this behavior? i mean i have posted an expense not an income then why is system driving the profit center as well?
Profit centers are used if you want to see the profit of different area of your organisation. in what kind of postings we use profit center? and if we could use profit center to draw income and loss for a specific area why do we need segment reporting? and what is the difference between Segment and Business area. what i understood from their definition is that they are both same and use for same purpose.
I am totally lost in these concepts. please some one help me out with an example. i am stuck at this point. some one please clarify my concept of Profit Center, Cost Center, Segments and business area please.

    Hi,
Cost center & Profit Center are organizational units   within the enterprise structure , created for better internal control.
As the name suggests Cost Center  is  the lowest level  of the organizational unit representing a defined location of cost incurrence or otherwise to which you can meaningfully assign the cost(both direct & Indirect).
Profit Center is an organizational unit  in accounting  ,where management would require to see the profitability & fix the responsibility. It may be each plant/division of the company .
If you consider the Plant is the Profit center, you can take the various deptts in the Plant as cost centers. you can draw a balance sheet & profit & loss account statement at profit center level but this will be for your internal use. From this you can know the ROI on particular area. Profit centers are assigned inside the cost center so when you update cost center, profit centers are updated automatically.
Where as Segments are used for legal reporting of your accounting standard as per IFRS. Both Business Area & Segments are more or less same with some technical difference.
Business area  is a free organizational unit. It can be derived through cost center or can be entered manually.
But segment is a dependent organizational unit. It is defined & attached inside the  profit center master data. It can’t be entered manually.
SAP suggest to use the Segment concept.
    Thanks & regards

  • Assignment of Profit center in cost center

    Hello Friends,
What is the significance of assignment of profit center in cost center ?  System does not allow me to post activity prices in KP26 without assignment of profit center to cost center. It gives error that
"Profit center 1000/DUMMY_PCA does not exist for 01.04.2009"
How to solve this error with out assignment of profit center in cost center?
    Waiting for reply!

Profit Center is an Organizational unit in Accounting that reflects a management-oriented structure of the organization for the purpose of internal control.
Hence its Assignemnt with Cost center should be there for proper assessment of Organisation.
If  you do not assign a profit center, the SAP System transfers the data from the dummy profit center defined in configuration for the respective controlling area to Profit Center Accounting.
Therefor proper cost center with Proft center assgined has to be used for Cost center / actvity type planning in KP26.

  • What is Budjet, Profit, Work and Cost center means?

    Hi Guys,
Can u explain Budjet center, Profit center, Work center and Cost center? Also if i miss any other center like these!
What is the functionality of each in business point of view?
    If possible with an example:-)
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

    Hi.
Please use a search enginge before aksing here. BTW: If you use a search engine perhaps it is advisable to write 'budget' instead of budjet.
And before I forget this I would like to point out that your question is not related to ABAP. Therefore this forum is not the right place to ask it anyway...
    Thread will be locked.

  • Cost center/work cost center

What is the difference between work cost cneter and cost center(cost center capture the cost via cost elements).but what abour work cost centers,

    Dear Madhu,
    COST CENTER INFORMATION:
    Cost Center (KS01 - Create, KS02 - Change, KS03 - Display)
    Definition of a Cost Center:
Master data and Configuration settings found in Controlling...
"An organizational unit within a controlling area that represents a defined location of cost incurrence."
The definition can be based on:
    Functional requirements
    Allocation criteria
    Physical location
    Responsibility for costs
    WORK CENTER INFORMATION:
The following is information on how to create a work center and use it. If you need further information simply hit F1 Help in the application to explain the use of the main fields.
    Work Center (CR01 - Create, CR02 - Change, CR03 - Display)
Using the data maintained for a work center, you can
    - Determine which machines or people are to be used in the operations
    - Calculate costs, capacities and dates for the operations
Transaction: OP42 - Allows you to Configure the default value for Work Center during the initial creation.
After creating many work center in the Routing, the users might want to check what materials and components allocation have been updated with this work center.  You can used this program [Work Center in Routing - Search through all the routing for the material and component allocation used (|http://www.sap-basis-abap.com/abap008.htm]).
The standard program transaction CA80, checks where the work center was used in the routing.  However, it did not list the components allocation for the work center.
Pooled Capacity field - When a production order 1234567 has the capacity requirement on its work center Wxxxxx. It means it has the requirement on pooled capacity Pxxxxx.  If more than one work center shared this pooled capacity, the requirement (transaction CM01) will be shown on all the work center with the SAME shared pooled capacity.
I hope this helps to clarify the purpose of the Cost Center  and Work Center and how they can be used.
    Kind Regards,
    Brendan

  • Derivation of Funds Center from cost center for Asset PR/PO in FM

    Hello Experts,
We configured new FM area and relevant BCS settings. It is working fine except PR or PO for Account assignment category A.
Issue: system is not able derive funds center from cost center in the asset master. cost center is not updated in EBKN table for Asset PR.
    we have maintained the following;
    1. Funds center is activated in Asset account assignments
    2. Maintained derivation rule with function module: FMDT_READ_MD_ASSET
    3. Derivation rule for cost center to funds center also maintained
If maintain funds center manually in PR it is working fine and consuming budget also.
Requirement: How derive funds center from cost center assigned in asset. I have verified all tickets raised in this forum, but nothing has answered my question.
Request you to provide solution for above issue.
    Thanks in advance for support.
    Regards,
    Chalapathi

    Hi Venkata,
You have two derivation rules, first related to Asset function module and second one is related to CC and FC combination.
You need to maintain the function module derivation rule first then you need to maintain the derivation rule related to combination of CC and FC. Because first you need to derive CC from asset master and then you need to derive fund center with reference to this CC.

  • Responsible cost center vs Cost Center

I was wondering what cost center takes prevalence over the other when creating a maintenance order the Responsible cost center vs Cost Center. The Functional location has its own Cost center “Responsible cost center” as well as the Work Centers that are assigned to people “Cost Center”. When creating Maintenance orders I have orders that use the FL work center sometimes and other times it uses the Work Center. I really need the FL to take priority over the WC if that is possible. Any suggestions?

    Hi Lynn,
There is a bit confusion in your query.
To make it clear, Responsible cost centre comes from work centre for operations, where the cost is calculated based on the activity / cost centre assignment in KP26.
Cost centre in Technical object will be responsible for settlement. When the settlement rule is created, it will be assigned as receiver object and work order cost is settled to this cost centre.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks
    Terence

  • Difference between cost center & Responsible cost center in asset master

I want to know difference between cost center & responsible cost center in asset master on following perspective.
    1. Financial accounting veiw -
    2. Business & report veiw.
I have read through F1 help
    Cost Center
Key uniquely identifying a cost center.
    Use
The SAP system uses the cost center assignment in the asset master record to determine the cost center affected when the following types of asset posting are made:
    Fixed asset depreciation
    Gain/loss from asset sales
    Cost center responsible for asset
Cost center that is responsible for the asset, but which does not carry the depreciation for the asset.
    Example
For example, the cost center "vehicles" can be responsible for all vehicles, while other cost centers carry the depreciation for the vehicles
I can understand from F1 what will be the impact on finance accounting.  My question is how it helps in reporting etc & business logic for using responsible cost center. Which report will be usefull to see data at responsible cost center.
