WCS Map editor offsetting walls

Hi,
WCS version: 7.0.230.0.
I import a map to WCS then open Map Editor, scale the floor and then draw the walls. But the next time (for example the next day) I open Map editor the walls have moved about 1-2 meters. Often to the left and/or up. This mess up my RF predictions.
I have tried Internet Explorer 8, Chrome, latest FireFox. Om rare occations the walls are in their correct place, but most often not.
Anyone had this problem and got a fix for it?
//Philip

I have experienced this exact problem before in WCS 7 a couple of years back and we are not the only ones it seems: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2040769
I now run NCS 1.1 and this problem is still not resolved, all the walls in my drawn maps gets offset a couple of meter messing up my RF predictions.
I would also really like to find a fix for this or know what I might do wrong.

  • Obsticles moving within WCS MAP Editor

I have an issue whereby I import a floor plan into WCS and then open the map editor and draw over the map the wall obsticles so as to have the heat maps and RF predictions reflect the attenuation characteristics of the walls.
I save the map and at a later date reopen it only to find that the obsticle layer has moved or offset to the map. Considering that the floor layouts I have been editing are in some cases 40,000 sq meters in area, the number of walls to re draw constitutes major work.
I picked this problem up originally when my heat maps would suddenly be cut off mid room where the was no obvious obsticle. On opeing up the map editor I find that the overlay is offset by the same amout of the error in the heat maps.
The maps in question, beign floor layouts have nopt been moved in reference to their offset to their respective building plan.
The versions of code I am runnign is as follows:-
    WCS: 7.0.164.0
    MSE: 7.0.105.0
    WLC: 7.0.98.0

No mention of the number of obstacles. I too am very detailed on my map layouts. The only thing they came back to me was that I may have been inaccurately drawing the obstacles by not magnifying the floor plan enough. This was a bit of an insult.
I have had situaltions whereby I can open a map one day and it is out of sync, and next it appears fine ( or almost).
I also have problems whereby i cannot get to the lower right portions of the floor plans when magnified as it is off the screen. I currently have 9 major hospital campuses with numerous buildings in each, some with up to 12 floors. Each floor layour is as detailed as I can possibly make it, and the thought of re doing these maps is somethign i just do not want to go to!
What the TAC finally got me to do was to tunr on logging and record when instances happened. The only problem here is that if you do not know or cannot repeat an instance of teh map going out of sync, how do you record the logging.
As I stated, I have basically given up on finding a resolution as I think it goot all too hard for Cisco to identify the actual issue.

  • Cisco WCS Map Editor- Any suggestions???

Does anyone here on the forum have any suggestions to make the Map Editor function in Cisco's WCS easier to navigate??  I have been trying to set the "light walls" on the floor plan I uploaded and it keeps coming out a mess.  Also, when I am done adding the interior walls how do I stop editor for outlining?
Any suggestions would be great.  Ready to scream!
    Thank you.
    Rgds,
    Vicky

I used to double click the mouse when i finish drawing  a wall it seems to work but yea it is quite hard. You should be able to click save button on top of the editor to stop and you can outline. Is that what you want to know?
    cheers

  • WCS map editor

Hi, we use WCS 7.0.240, with Wism controller to manage our wireless network. We try to import map in the WCS to place AP and see the propagation of the signal, but no matter if I import cad file, jpeg or png file, I see the it in the maps tool but when I try to edit the map with map editor to draw wall, the image is all white. So I can't see the imported image. I try different scale, resolution. nothing change.
In the last years or two, I import some map and these one we can edit it, but new one, we can't. The only change we made in past years is to update WCS.
    How can I resolve that.

    Hi,
    have you tried different browsers?

  • WCS Map Editor Don't Load

    Hi.
    I have a 7.0.172.0 versipon of a wcs.
I´m trying to create a new floor and then edit the maps of my building's floors but I only see a white image on the map editor. I've already tried  with png and jpg, also i've tried reducing dpi from 96dpi to 72dpi but i always get the white image.
I have another Floor creating ealier in the same version of wcs and the strange thing is that a image that is ok for editing but img is loaded in the dwg (autocad) format. I 've tried to convert jpg to dwg but have no luck. Previw image is showing ok but in the map editor is still a white paper. Please help.

I can publish cad file from autocad to pdf but having an error (not supported format) when I have tried to load PDF in the Floor Editor.
I have tried to load jpg image in very low res - no success - preview is showing but in map editor still "white paper".

  • WCS Map Editor Shows Big Black Box

Anyone seen this?  I'm in WCS and I select my map, and then choose the map editor icon.  When the editor loads, my map looks like this:

    All -
Been playing phone tag with Cisco TAC (the results of global enconomization and time zone differences).  In the mean time, my co-worker and I figured out that our problem was that the images were set to have a transparent background in GIMP before saving as PNG.  We typically do this to keep the file size smaller, but WCS chokes on it.  To test, I placed a white background and imported to WCS and it's all better!  Now, is there a way to replace an exisiting background map that already has APs on it?  I don't think so!  I'll follow the case through with TAC and see what Rahul has to say.

  • WCS Map Editor cuts off portion of map

I have imported a floor plan as a jpg file and in the floor view, I see the building plan in its entirety just fine.  But, when I go to the map editor to add walls and such, it cuts off a portion of the map.  It is a small portion but a far corner of the building is missing.  Trying to troubleshoot this behavior but not sure where to start.
Anyone seen this before.  I have not encountered this before and I have imported several maps.

  • WCS- Map Editor (moving floors)

Problem: Two people working on the same WCS created the same building with different names. One building has two floors and the other has two floors. Rather then delete and start over is there a way to move a floor to a different building? Or is deleting and recreating the only option (a pain since mulitple APs have already been placed)
    tia
    barry

What you can do is go to the maps section, properties, and then export the AP placements. This gets saved in CSV form.
Then, delete everything but the APs in question. Change the building & floor name from X to Y (Y being where you want it to be), and then import this file. WCS will move the APs to the new position. You have to upload the floor maps, and give the floors the same dimensions, but this saves you the trouble of re-positioning the APs.

  • Oddball WCS map issue !? help please

    Hi,
have tried to create a perimeter on WCS map editor as a test to keep some of the assets from appearing way off the map. It made no real difference. Problem is to remove the perimeter I selected new perimeter (which erases last perimeter) and saved with no new perimeter hence going back to standard (or at least this was the only way i could see to do it)
Now, the maps are done within a "building" as 3 floors. Even though I only chose to edit the top floor when I try to find ANY ward level out I get:
[ServletException in:/pages/monitor/map/buildingView.jsp] Cannot find bean Floors in any scope'
Seems to be a java error?
So Now I cannot find any maps or Access Points on maps either L
Will stopping and starting the WCS database kick this process back into life?
I have already stopped and started jave.exe on the server to no success. I have tried locally browsingon the server to no success and various pc`s and get the same message.
I use a asset tracking piece of software from aeroscout that relies on the ap posistions from WCS and it is still working ? so in the background the information for maps and ap`s locations are still there, i would normally stop and start WCS but this may upset my aeroscout software.
any ideas ? I REALLY dont want to have to replace 350 AP`s on a map again it took days and i need to be running by next week.
    my version is:
    Wireless Control System Version 5.0.56.2

    1. Stop WCS services
    2. Make a backup of your DB
    3. Start WCS services
See if problem has been fixed.
If the issue is still the same, upgrade to WCS 5.2 latest version, that should fix your problem.

  • Help with Map Editor in WCS 4.1.91.0

In WCS version 4.1.91.0 is there any way to edit maps other than through the web interface? I'm trying to lay in my "thick walls" and I'm finding the resolution in the web interface to be down-right horrible. Since I'm in a hospital environment I have lots of walls to draw but I keep having to refer back to my original jpg to locate some of the walls as they do not appear on the low resolution web interface editor. If anyone has any ideas on editing maps in WCS I'd love to hear them.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,
The rumor from Networkers 2007 (OK, OK: Networkers at Cisco Live!) was that WCS version 4.2 would allow import directly from Autocad .dwg files without the mess of first saving as bitmaps.
    A snippet from: www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps7305/prod_bulletin0900aecd806b7f8a.html
"AutoCAD Map Import Support: AutoCAD images can be imported into Cisco WCS and used as maps. Users can select the layer of the AutoCAD image to be used as the WCS map when the image is previewed. Cisco WCS maps support three import file types: JPEG, PDF, and AutoCAD."
And remember, WCS version 4.2 will "fix everything this time" ;-)

  • WCS 7 map editor issue

    Hi Guys,
I am currently setting up some maps on WCS version 7. The map displays correctly in the floor view but if I open in Map Editor it seem to crop about a 1/3 of the picture on the right hand side. I have tried using different building/floor size combinations and also tried using the scaling tool to oversize/undersize the picture.
No matter what I try the picture always looks correct in the floor view but is cropped in the Map editor.
Any ideas? is there a way to move the the picture around in the  Map editor?  I have had not encountered this before on previous versions.

    Hi,
This may be the bug that we are hitting..
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCti28776
You can try the work aroung specified in the bug and see if that helps.
    Workaround:
Re-size image to make sure that neither height or width exceeds 2880 pixels.  If
needed, use WCS to re-scale the image to needed building proportions.
lemme know if this answered your question..
    Regards
    Surendra

  • WCS does not support wall mount orientation of 1131 & 1000 APs w/int. ant.

I have been unable to determine how to indicate wall mount orientation of APs in the WLC for the 1000 series (AireSpace) and 1131AG series access points.
I can set the rotational direction they are pointing if ceiling mounted , but cannot indicate if they are located on the wall or ceiling.
I am assuming a ceiling mount configuration is all that is supported in the WCS.
As an aside, when attempting to correctly orient the antenna direction on the 1000 series AP, the diagram used on the WCS to indicate the orientation of "0 degrees" mark on the access point shows an AP as if it were sitting on a table (an invalid orientation - wall & ceiling are the recommended orientations). This means that you have to mentally "flip" the controller over to account for ceiling mount and then determine which way the arrow should be pointed on the WCS map - not much fun.
Any suggestions for dealing with wall-mounted orientation? Have I missed something?
For ceiling mount installations, how critical is it that the antennae orientation be configured on 1131AG and 1000 series models?
For wall mount, I would imagine that for determining location and RF planning that the wall mount / ceiling mount orientation would have a significant affect, yet I cannot seem to find any way to set this orientation.

  • Mapping editor not working with Java 5 classes

I have a small protoype web service which I wrote using Tomcat/Axis/Spring/Hibernate and using EJB3 annotations for the mappings. I want to port the persistence layer to Toplink.
I installed Toplink 9.0.4.1 and added the toplink libraries to my project and implemented the DAO and the spring bean defs.
I opened the mapping editor and created a project. When I try to add classes to it for mapping I get an error that it can't find the classes (even though I selected them from the chooser). I figured it might be that they were compiled with Java 5, so I switched the JRE_HOME in setenv.cmd to my Java 5 JRE. Now I can import the classes and see the attributes but when I click on any of them in the Navigator panel, the editor panel remains blank. If I now try to save, I get:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
         at oracle.toplink.workbench.ui.tools.CheckListModel.getRowCount(CheckListModel.java:119)
         at javax.swing.JTable.checkLeadAnchor(JTable.java:2949)

         at oracle.toplink.workbench.ui.tools.CheckList.<init>(CheckList.java:26)
It seems that the mapping workbench doesnt work with Java 5. What should I do?

Ah, I see. I saw another post here stating that must use 10.1.3.

  • MSE location problem in WCS map

    Hi,
I've Installed a MSE context aware services   6.0.103 and WCS  6.0.196.0 plus loaction license in a Campus with 4 WLC  in 2 buildings, every buildings has 3 floor, i configure the WCS and associate the campus to MSE engine, I syncronize it with controllers and  It works, but only for the ground floor of the buildings, on the other floor there are many clients but they are not visible on WCS map, I can view associated clients only on the groundfloor maps, and  i check the properties of every floor but they are the same.
    any ideas?
    thanks
    Regards

    Hello,
Are the groundfloors all covered by APs on the same controller(s) and maybe the other floors covered by APs on different controllers?
Or are the same controllers having APs on either the groundfloor and other floors?
I am asking this because we may be running into a situation where the MSE doesn't correctly communicate with the controllers managing APs (and clients) on the floors where you can't see anything.
Also, is the MSE license having still free slots, or is the license limit completely consumed by all the clients in the groundfloors?
This can be verified in WCS under
Services > Mobility Services > [your MSE] > Context Aware Service > Administration> Tracking Parameters
After these first checks, I'd also verify the following:
    1. The client on a specific floor should show up on the WLC under
    show client detail
    2. The same client should show up on WCS through a search for its MAC address.
Is the WCS pointing you to a specific map location for this client?
    3. In WCS, under Monitor > Maps, do you see a client count higher than zero for those floors where you can't display clients?
    4. In the floor map view of WCS, could you please confirm that you checked the "Clients" box and that in its properties you also selected "Show All Clients"?
I understand these may sound like obvious steps, but I'd prefer not to neglect anything.
    Regards,
