Hi .. We want from apple in ios 8 to improve in air drop for example we want for it to share photo and website and music and video and documents to blackberry and Samsung and more mobile not just for iphone and ipad and ipod ..for me i like apple mobile but my friend have blackberry and others have samsung so we want to improve for air drop and we hope to make nfc in ios 8 to share many things

Why don't I see Air Drop

I have downloaded and installed OSX 10.7 Lion and evrything seems fine except I don't see Air Drop.
iMac 24" Intel Core 2 Duo, 4gig Ram.
I loaded OSX 10.7 Lion on my Macbook Pro 13" and everything works well so far and I see Air Drop.
Any ideas?

Air Drop on 10.10.1 not seeing nearby Mac.

I was trying to send a few files from my Mac to the other Mac in the house using Air Drop. This has always worked in the past but this is there first time it is being attempted after upgrading (both Mac's) to 10.10.1.
Airdrop is started on both Mac. The other Mac can see my Mac but my Mac does not see the other Mac.   If the other Mac Air Drops a file to my Mac, the other Mac then shows on my Mac and the files is downloaded. Then, on my Mac , if files are dragged onto the other Mac in Air Drop, the other Mac disappears and nothing is transferred.
Too wierd!

Assuming this was working before the upgrades, then I would reinstall Yosemite on both computers, but do so one at a time testing Airdrop after the reinstall.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I had the same problem on my mac mini.
Makes sure your computer is on the following list.
Only the following Apple computers are able to take advantage of the Air Drop feature:
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)
iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)

Okay, as I'm working through this I see that I have to add the "Admin" account to each file with "read only" permission. Simply changing the "everyone" account access does nothing.
So how do I change the permissions settings in iPhoto or Aperture to give each exported file the desired permissions? I cannot locate a setting in the iPhoto or Aperture applications.
Also, I added a password to the user account. It did not change how files are output.

Air Drop missing on iMac 20"

Hi guys, after I installed Lion on my MacPro, my wife did the same on her iMac 20". The problem is that she cannot see Air Drop like is showing on my MacPro.
What could be the cause?

Have you seen this at the bottom of the description for Lion in the App Store:
AirDrop is supported on the following Mac models: Macbook Pro (late 2008 or newer), MacBook Air (late 2010 or newer), MacBook (Late 2008 or newer), iMac (early 2009 or newer), Mac mini (mid 2010 or newer), Mac Pro (early 2009 with AirportExtreme card and mid 2010 or newer).

We are shopping for a new TV but want to make sure it is a device that is compatible with using Air Drop from our iPads/iPhones.

AirDrop isn't compatible with TVs. It is a Mac OS X Lion feature used for transferring files between Macs on the same local network.

Did you mean AirPlay - for sending video and audio to other devices? If so, any TV with a HDMI port is compatible with the AppleTV device which recieves the video and audio and displays it on the TV.

Ios 7 air drop not working with mountain lion air drop

Hi, didn't see an iOS 7 forum, so I'm posting it here since I was testing it out on my iPhone 5.
I tried to use air drop to share photos b/w my iPhone and my MBP running mountain lion, both has air drop enabled, but I couldn't see either on the air drop window.
is iOS 7 air drop not compatible with OSX air drop??

I have a Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio i5. Also, even before reading your suggestions, I moved my phone hand set away from the iPad. There aren't any other sources within 10 feet although the phone base is within 30 feet. The WiFi router is about 5 feet away. Haven't had a chance to "troubleshoot" the connection.
Have you any suggestions for Air Drop or Air Print? My Pixma MP 450 which in excellent working order isn't compatable with either OS 10.9.x or iOS 7.
Canon suggested a Pixma MG 3520 which was hellatious to set up, requiring a big download and both a USB cable and Ethernet connection to the router, and isn't working with the iPad.
Clearly, technological "advancements" are for teeny boppers who spend their time taking phone pictures, sending mindless messages and listening to music. Oh, to be 14 again.

What exactly is Air Drop and Air Play?

I keep seeing these cutely coined phrases such as Air Drop and Air Play but I can't find a full explanation as to what they are and how to use them. Can anyone direct me to a source where these are explained in detail?

AirDrop is a OS X feature that allows you to transfer files wirelessly through different Macs with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion and connected to the same network. This will be available in iOS 7 for some iPhones, iPods touch and iPads.

Is Air Drop the same as iCloud ?

Hi i have just started to download Lion, i see one of the features of Lion is AirDrop !, is this anything like iCloud ?.
I get the impression reading a bit deeper that Air Drop is for Mac's ONLY and iCloud is only for iPad's and/or iPhone's !! i am a little confused.

No. AirDrop works only on a local network and does not depend on any outside servers. It operates between 2 Macs running Lion. See this page for an explanation.
iCloud is a totally different thing. See this page.

Air Drop

I have an iMac with an i7 processor (late 2012) and a Mac Book Air (Mid 2012) both running Yosemite and up to date. I can air drop files from the Air to the iMac but not the other way round - the Air isn't seen on the iMac (in Air drop)for some reason. Bluetooth is switched on on both machines. If I go into System Preferences - Bluetooth - on the Air (not do anything else just open the pane) lo and behold the icon appears and I can send the file. Its obviously something set wrong somewhere I guess but I don't know where. The system used to work fine until I upgraded to Yosemite. Its a niggling problem and one I can work round but it is annoying

Air Drop and File Sharing Between Macs Please HELP

I have a 2011 Mac Book Pro running Mavericks and a 2010 Mac Pro running mountain lion and I am having trouble air Dropping and file sharing between them.
My MBP works fine. It can see other macs and share with them on my home network. My MP on the other hand cant see any other computers under the shared devices location in my finder. I have turned on file sharing for my MP as well as screen sharing. Neither works. My Mp used to be able to Air Drop and File share.
When I try to Air Drop to my MP it wont receive the item.
Has someone been through this before and know how to fix the issue? Ive been trying to research this for a while and haven't been able to find a solution.
Any help would be great!

Are you using a frieWall on individual Macs?
If you are using a Router you control, individual computer FireWalls are not needed.
