Web cam is very sluggish with Photo Booth

Hi,
I'm on the new 24", 2.4 Ghz iMac and most everything works consistently and well, but I'm getting concerned about the internal Webcam.
From time to time I go into Photo Booth just to check things out. More than once, I have gotten a green screen with no Webcam working. And last time, I even had a green screen and the camera/Webcam green light was on at the top of the iMac. I tried taking a photo and I got a green square (surprise!).
Usually, if I quit the photo booth application and restart it, eventually the Webcam will come on and I can see myself etc.
But I worry that this is a possible defect. What if down the road I need this Webcam and ooops! too late to claim any warranty.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Many Thanks, Frank B.

Hi, ah the green screen issue! from what I remember a few pepe's had this issue with the white iMac c2d.. From memory-Repair Permissions & Reboot. If that fails do the SMC reset thing. A great addition to the iSight App is iGlasses ->http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/settings.html ....L

  • My camera will not work with Photo booth or any other camera application.

I have an iMac Intel 21.5".
Camera has always worked just fine.
    Suddenly it has stopped.
The green light right next to the camera is on, but nothing is displayed on the screen (photo booth).
No error message is displayed either.
I have already tried the reset function (turn off, remove all cables and power cable for 10 sec, and turn it back on) but it hasn't worked.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Hi Rogerya,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you may be experiencing issues with the built-in FaceTime camera (also known as iSight) on your MacBook Air. The following resource provides relevant troubleshooting information that you can try:
How to Troubleshoot iSight - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT2090
Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
    1. See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
    2. See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
    3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    4. Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • No camera with photo booth

iSight Camera works on ichat and imovie but not with photo booth. It also won't work with replacement software for photo booth.
    Any ideas?

    Hello, BuffaloSky
Quit all running applications. Then, if you have not done so recently, and especially after any recent software updates or installs, repair permissions. Now try Photo Booth again.
If you still have the problem after repairing permissions, try all suggestions relevant to your system from How to Troubleshoot iSight.
If Photo Booth still does not work in any user account, it is possible that a corrupted Photo Booth Preferences file is causing your problem. Quit Photo Booth (and all other applications) and throw away the Photo Booth Preferences file (com.apple.photobooth.plist) from your Home / Library / Preferences folder. A new preferences (.plist) file will be generated when you restart Photo Booth to test whether it works now.

  • Use Canon Powershot G6 with Photo Booth?

I have a brand new Mac Pro running OS 10.5.7 with photo booth, but no isight camera. I'd like to use my Canon Powershot G6 with Photo Booth, but when I plug in my camera, via USB cable, and launch Photo Booth, there is just a blank picture window.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions of how to make this work (if possible) or where I might look for a solution.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
In Many apps that can access cameras it is about the resolution the software that the app restricts the camera to, rather than the abilities of the camera.
You may find that some cameras such as those that connect by Firewire may produce a more pleasing picture rather than being at a different resolution.
There is not much difference in External USB cameras over the Internal one on those Macs that have Internal iSights.
iGlasses is cheap and works for a7 day trial before you have to commit yourself and can access some features and tweak the video from Web cams in various Apps

  • Isight works with photo booth but not in ichat or google talk or skype?

isight works with photo booth but not in ichat or google talk or skype?

    Hi
Is this an Internal or External iSight ?
In iChat, in the Video Menu (This is to the right of Buddies and may read Audio) is Camera Enabled Ticked ?
If it reads Audio open the Connection Doctor from that same menu.
In the connection Doctor open the Capabilities tab
Does it say your Internet Connection is too slow ?
At this point I would need to know which iChat Version.
However also look in the View Menu.
Is Show VIdeo Status ticked ?  (this shows green Icons next to your Buddy Pic and those of your Buddies
Next go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Video Section
Do you see a preview here ?
    Re: GoogleTalk
Have you enabled TALK on your Google Account Settings ?
You need to have a Google Mail ID (Not any other sort of Google ID)
Have you downloaded the Intel only Web Browser Plug-in to do Video in a  Web Browser.

  • ISight Working but only with Photo Booth

My built-in iSight is not working with several apps including Skype and iChat. iChat gives message being used by different application. the camera does work with Photo Booth. This is a new problem that has developed since upgrading from 10.5 to 10.5.1. I have tried several steps (PMU reset, deleting Photo Booth preferences, etc) but no joy.
Would appreciate any other thoughts.... There do seem to be a rash of similar issues under discussion at the moment but I can't seem to find a solution that works for me.

    Hello Sanpper F
    (0) Shut down everything and restart your modem, router (if you use one), and Mac. Let each device's self-test complete before starting the next. When all have restarted, check to see if you still have the problem.
    (1) Try all relevant from http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240 and test again.
    (2) Try reapplying the Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update. Repair permissions after the restart at the completion of the installer run. Then check to see if your trouble is fixed.
    (3) If none of the suggestions you get here solves your problem, when you post back please:
    (a) list every app you tried iSight with that does not work.
    (b) tell whether the problem behaved EXACTLY the same in a new user account
    (c) verify that your QuickTime Streaming Speed preference is set to your broadband speed (not "Automatic")
    (d) list anything else that changed (network or Firewall settings, added hardware or software, etc.) since the problem apps worked correctlly
If needed, we will try to offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your reply.

  • Microsoft NX-6000 works with Photo Booth, not with iChat

I'm trying to use a Microsoft NX-6000 webcam with my wife's MacBook running 10.5.5. The camera appears properly in System Profiler, and it works properly with Photo Booth. However, iChat tells me that the camera is in use by another application, even after rebooting and ensuring that iChat is the only app running. Is there a way to fix this? (and yes, I know the MacBook has a built-in iSight but she's using it in clamshell mode, so that won't help!)

  • Help with Photo booth

IS there a way that I can turn off the flash that happens when i take pictures with photo booth?
I was also wondering if the camera records video?
    Thank you!

    Hello Sarah CMac
To disable Photo Booth flash, hold shift while you click.
BTW, holding option disables the seconds countdown. You can use both at once if desired.
Photo Booth 2 that comes with Leopard adds video recording with "effects" and sound. If you do not want to upgrade to Leopard, you can use WebcamTweaker for "effects" videos or any of the apps that can record video or movie clips from this list of Some Applications You Can Use With iSight for video without Photo Booth's "effects."

    Hi there,
There are a couple of things that we can try. A good first troubleshooting for a varity of issues is resetting your computers PRAM.
OS X Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM

If your issues persist, then ther eare some troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

  • IPhoto Crashes with Photo Booth Share

Brand new iMac (less than 2 weeks old) running Lion.
My daughter is having lots of fun with Photo Booth, but whenever we try to "share" (add to iPhoto), iPhoto opens and then promptly crashes.
After that, whenever we try to open iPhoto directly, it says there's a photo that needs to be imported.  Regardless of whether I say yes or no to importing the image, iPhoto crashes.
After each crash, a new recovered file folder appears in my pictures directory.
I did figure out how to get iPhoto to work again by finding and removing the Photo Booth file that is trying to be imported.  But I was hoping someone could give me a heads up as to why brand new software on a brand new computer isn't working and whether there is a fix.
    Thanks.

The fact that a computer is "brand new" doesn't make a whit of difference. Software doesn't suffer from wear and tear and problems are as likely on the first day you use it as they are on the last.
As to the fix... you say you did fix the problem and can get iPhoto to work, didn't you?

  • Will the option to take video with photo booth become available for ipad2? why would they not include it :(

I was really disappointed to find out that i can't record video with photo booth on my ipad2 and am wondering why it was not included like it is on a mac. Will there be an update to fix this?

  • Making Email Valentine Card with Photo Booth

I don't know if it's possible or not, but I'd like to make a Valentine Card using Photo Booth that I could  send by Email. Can this be done? If so, how? Incidentally, I'm sure that I could probably use iPhoto to do this, if I knew how, but I'm more familiar with Photo Booth. I think I can handle that.

    Hi Niku,
In PhotoBooth on the right-hand side below the picture area, you will see a little button that says "Effects". If you click on that (before you take the picture) you will see that there are several pages of different effects you can select that will superimpose on your photo. Then follow mns's instructions for getting it to an email page. Once in email, you can select the Edit button at the top of the mail page, and then select "Special Characters". There you will find all kinds of emoticon-type things that you can click to insert into your mail message (including hearts, heart-shaped candy boxes, flowers, etc. Once you have selected what you want, you can make them bigger by selecting them and changing the font size.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,

If you have tried every relevant suggestion from How to Troubleshoot iSight but your camera is still not recognized anywhere in your System Profiler's USB Device Tree, you likely have a hardware problem.
Properly applying the Combo version of the latest update for your Mac OS can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of the camera.  For hardware help, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service on your MacBook Air.
