Web galleries in iWeb

I have published a web gallery, using iLife 08. And it works! But in iWeb, as I try to embed my gallery, my web widgets feature reports that 'there are no albums available'.
Has any one else had this problem? What causes it and how can I fix it?
Thank you.

I had this issue and read elsewhere in the discussion that iWeb can't access Web Galleries that you publish with a password. I tried publishing a Web Gallery with "Album Viewable by" set to "Everyone" and, sure enough, it then appeared in Web Widgets.

  • Can't see web galleries in iweb

I've published multiple .mac web galleries but don't see any of them listed in the widget list in iweb. What am I missing, do I have to do something special to see them?
What's the best way to include my web galleries if I have a ton of them I want to list on my website?

It may not be a bug but a feature to not display any photos that are acutally in the gallery when announcing a protected gallery. I don't know. But you can report by using the iWeb->Provide iWeb Feedback menu option in iWeb.
If the gallery is password protected but your want a photo from the gallery to be in the link, add a small photo to the page, size it to a reasonable size and then link it to the web gallery. When visitors click on the photo link they will be taken to the gallery and have to put in a name and password before they can access it. You can email that info to them in a separate email.

  • Using Lightroom web galleries with iWEB

Adobe Lightroom has a very nice gallery template that can be used to create a gallery page. It outputs the page to a folder with the associated files, includingindex.html.
I would like to use this approach for presenting the galleries rather than the photo pages in the iWEB template I am using.
I have searched here, the Adobe forums as well as some dedicated to photography.
    A solution escapes me.
I have no interest in learning HTML or other website programming skills.
I am looking for a cut and paste solution.
    Thanks.

Ok now I'm assuming you have a .mac account like you said. When you click on the icon of the idisk in your finder, close finder and open idisk from your desktop. Then go through the hierarchy as I said, and drop your folder in the final iWeb folder. The page has to generate at that point. Then do what I told you to do i.e. http..........to see the page. Once you get the established address of the page, copy it. Then go to your iweb doc and establish a page where you would have text and maybe an image to link to your new gallery. Go into your inspector click on make hyperlink active and and enable as a hyperlink when you either highlight your text you want or the image that's going to link to your gallery. This is going to be an external page you want to link to so put that in. Then paste your new gallery page address into the area to let it know. Let it know you want to open page in a new window...check that, and that should be it. But you must delete the apple address in the external page info thats already their. Also, what version of iweb do you have? I have '08. My external pages were with either iphoto or a photoshop web gallery.
    I hope I didn't confuse you further.....Good luck.....Christina

  • IPhoto and compression of uploads to iWeb albums and Web Galleries?

It appears it's been established that iPhoto automatically sizes uploads to Web Galleries and iWeb albums to 800x600 no matter the resolution of the original picture.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5118968#5118968
You can clumsily work around this in Web Gallery by uploading directly through the gallery upload button or via email, as discussed here.

What I'm wondering is whether there's a way to do something similar in an iWeb album? My experience is that even if I do specify the option in the photo inspector to allow Original (Full Quality) downloads from the album, the files are still heavily compressed somewhere along the line, with 2.2MB originals coming back at 650KB or so.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Hi.
I don't have iPhoto 08 yet, but had a similar concern in iPhoto 6. I let iWweb do it's thing and then overwrote the images that it produced.
How? I edited the photos to the way I wanted them in Photoshop or Aperture(!) and saved it out to the largest size (800x600, I believe). Then I set up an Automator action to dupe and resize the pictures to the thumbnail size. When done, I moved the files to my iDisk and put em wher they belong.
It's a bit of a hassle, but I got the quality that I wanted...also, not sure if that'll work in 08...

  • Web Gallery and iWeb

There is a template in iWeb for albums, but not one for iPhoto Web Galleries. You can use the insert .mac web gallery option to get a web gallery onto a page, but is there a way to use the cool album template instead?
It seems so odd that there isn't better integration between Web Galleries and iWeb templates.

Yeah, I'm noticing this, too. Seems a bit of crap work, if you ask me.
I'm kind of unimpressed with the new iWeb. A few "widgets" isn't really all that neat, and I'm shocked they didn't include some sort of iphone theme (like a theme best viewed on an iphone.)
But this gallery thing is the most irritating.

  • Web galleries showing in iweb after updates for anyone?

Wondering if anyone has tried and be successful publishing a web gallery from Aperture 2 and having it show up in the Iweb insert menu.
I get Iphoto galleries showing up, but not Aperture. The files are on the idisk.
    thanks

I too have just discovered that web galleries created in Aperture show up on the web, but do not show up on the insert menu under iWeb. This is bad because I'm creating blog entries as we speak, and cannot insert recently created galleries into them. Any solutions anyone?

  • Help, Aperture web galleries not showing up on iWeb insert menu!

All of my iPhoto web galleries show up fine on the Insert menu (Insert > .Mac web gallery) for placement in a web page. None of the galleries created in Aperture show up. They all exist fine on the gallery page. This is very annoying
    Apple?

Yes, I have seen your name come up a lot in these posts. It seems it's just a total oversight on the part of Apple. I'm sure the issue lies with iWeb and not Aperture. There must be some list to look up and iWeb just fails to look in more than one place. Lets hope there is a +0.0.1 update soon.
What is the Apple "make a suggestion" URL?

  • Published web galleries not available as web widgets in iWeb

hi all. sorry some are experiencing probs with iWeb '08. It does seem to have some bugs, but man it is cool for my uses! I have published a web gallery in iPhoto, but when I go to insert it in my iWeb through the Insert Menu up top or through the web widget menu it says there are no web galleries available. i've restarted my machine and still no go. I can visit my web gallery no problem on the internet. Any thoughts? just a bug that needs to be squashed?
    seeegs

Same problem here. Does anyone know what this command does? Does it create an iframe tag with the web gallery embedded as a frame? Perhaps we could simulate the effect with HTMP snippets while apple fixes it.

  • Web Galleries and new iWeb album pages

The new version of iWeb allows for "album" pages that serve as a collection of all the photo and mvies pages that are in a site. This is pretty slick, and allows one to re-order the photo pages exactly like one can re-order photos on one of the photo pages.
I am playing with web galleries, and notice that you can create a widget for a gallery for any iWeb page. When I do this on my album page, the widget shows up, but does not act like or interact with the other picture pages. It is simply a "widget" that sits on the page where it is placed. Has anyone figured out how to get a (link to a) gallery to act like one of the photo pages?

I'm searching the forum for a solution to this too; web galleries look cheap next to the albums, and there's no reason for it. Short of changing all of my albums to galleries, here's my temporary solution, but it's a half-measure:
    1) Drop a square on top of your .Mac Web Gallery widget that's just a bit larger than the widget.
    2) Select the square, and in the Inspector, go to the Graphic Inspector, and under Stroke, select Picture Frame.
    3) Select the frame that matches your album's format, then resize the square until it's just about the size of the widget, or provides the desired border width around the widget.
    4) Move the square backward, behind the widget.
    5) If desired, add a dummy album name beneath the gallery for visual continuity.
    See my example here: http://www.vehphoto.com/sandrift/Photos/Photos.html
This worked for me because I'm using a white background and white frames; your mileage may vary depending on what theme and picture frames you're using. (I can't recall if I enabled additional frames in the Inspector as described in the Keynote forums - if a matching frame appears to be missing in the Inspector, let me know and I'll double-check this.)
Still, it's a sub-optimal solution, because 1) the widget cannot be resized 2) the widget still contains the gallery name, and 3) widgets cannot be rearranged the way albums can - they probably have to be segregated from albums.
I'll be posting feedback on this at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html

  • How to get MobileMe photo galleries into iWeb or from Aperture?

I currenlty use MobileMe for an iWeb  published site, on which I have a link to a several dozen photo galleries, all pub;ished from Aperture.  iPhoto has an iWeb "button", but Aperture does not so far as I can see.  I am trying to find the easiest way to keep all of my stuff intact once MM dies next year.  How can I migrate, not link, my MM photo galleries into iWeb, and/or publish them from Aperture into iWeb?  Once I have the photo galleries as part of iWeb, then I'll be able to use it to publish to another web hosting service.  Thanks!

Do you have the original image files used to make up those MMe Galleries?  If so you can group them into albums in iPhoto and use the iWeb Album page or Photos page and ignore the MMe galleries.
If the files are in Aperture and there's no Aperture section in iWeb's Media Browser you will have to export those files out of Aperture as originals and drag them either into iPhoto or into an iWeb photos page.  I don't use Aperture so an unsure of what can be done between Aperture and iWeb.
If those galleries are the only copy of the photos you have you'll need to download the file (if the gallery allows it) and import into iPhoto before going into iWeb.

  • Web Gallery vs. iWeb?

I'm not sure I understand the difference between the Web Gallery and iWeb. You can add galleries on both?
How do you remove a gallery from the Web Gallery after you install it? I was trying to install multiple galleries by doing the shift click then figured out iPhoto was combining all the galleries into one. I aborted and it said it was deleting it off the WG. It did not. The pics it did upload are there and I can't figure out how to delete.

    AtlantaRoyce:
Web Galleries from iPhoto differ from iWeb photo galleries in that the iPhoto galleries are run from software on Apple's servers (you only upload four versions of each photo and the server side software does the rest. With an iWeb photo gallery you have design control over how that gallery will look, comments under the thumbnails and that gallery may be part of a greater site with other pages. Then the photos and other supporting files are uploaded to be combined into an HTML based web page. The iPhoto gallery is java driven I believe.
All iPhoto galleries are part of one gallery. To delete an iPhoto gallery you delete the web gallery in the iPhoto library. The photos will be deleted from the iDisk and no longer show in your gallery.
The iPhoto one is much easier and quicker to create but can only be the one style. With the iWeb variety you can change the background, add music to the site. The two slideshows are different also.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Difficulty using an Aperture Web gallery with Iweb and custom domain

I am not using a .Mac account. I do however, use Aperture to create web galleries. I cannot get Iweb to link to all my Aperture web galleries. Aperture web galleries create index.html files. When I link to a file called index.html nothing happens. Can someone please help. Thank you. Tom

You need to use the entire URL and have your folders already uploaded to your server.
Syntax would be something like this:
    http://myserver.com/foldername
Since index.html is default you can leave it out of the URL.
I don't use Aperture so I don't know the method it uses. I would suspect it allows you to name a folder for the files and inside it is the index.html file and maybe a folder of images and other support files.

  • Web Galleries on Photo pages?

I think I already know the answer is no, but... I much prefer the .Mac Web Gallery and it's options to the older photos page you create from iPhoto. I have converted a couple of albums to Web Galleries.
My questions is regarding putting those on a Photos page. I only seem to be able to put a Web Gallery on a blank page. Dropping it onto one of the default album spaces that pop up on a Photos page (where you drag in from iPhoto), of course, does nothing. My main reason is that I would like to consolidate Web Galleries on an Albums page - I really like the look of the albums themselves and it's a nice gateway. I have been able to make a rectangle, change it to a picture frame, resize it and use that, but it's not the organization I prefer, and, again, I'd like to have the gateway in those nice albums. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • How to use iPhoto web gallery with iWeb & personal domain name

So, another question about iWeb 08:
I've set up my site to use a personal domain name, like www.mypersonaldomain.com. I've configured everything with my DNS settings so that it actually points to my iWeb site, and I'm happy about that.
However, I've imported a few iPhoto '08 web galleries into my site, but when I browse to them by going to www.mypersonaldomain.com and clicking on the link for my gallery, it goes to a URL that actually shows my .mac account, i.e. gallery.mac.com/sockdaddy/gallery1/photo.jpg
Is there any way to have the web galleries that I'm using become a more transparent part of my iWeb site, and use my personal domain?

I've never done this on .Mac but I do use this on my server. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
In iPhoto select your web gallery and in the "file" menu select "export" and then "Web Page".
Select your options and click "Export" to the desktop.
There are now 4 folders and an index.html file.
Change the name of the index file to whatever you want to call the page e.g WebGallery.html
Now go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and open your website folder.
Drag and drop the 4 folders and the html file from your desktop into this.
Create a link to this from your website in the "link" inspector and choose "external page".
The URL for the link will be the same as any other page on your site except WebGallery is substituted for the page name.
If you check the "open link in new window" you won't have to worry about the fact that you don't have a link back to your site from the WebGallery page.

  • Questions about web gallery in iWeb - advise please

I have succesfully republished my old iWeb with iWeb 08, but would like to have some advice before I experiment further. The iWeb Help says I can add a web gallery to iWeb using either "insert>web gallery", or a Web Widget. Can anyone explain the difference to me?
My one Web Gallery has the neat new "carousel" effect and the other properties of this new function. Will any new photo albums that I publish directly from iWeb also have these properties, or are they unique to "web gallery"? The photo albums that I have republished with the new iWeb have the "download" and "subscribe" functions, but not the "carousel" and other niceties of Web Gallery. Thank you.

There are two completely separate types of gallery, one being the .Mac web gallery and the other being the ones that you make in iWeb.
Where iWeb mentions the "insert" or "Web Widget" it just means there two ways of doing the same thing. If you use the 'Insert' menu or the 'Web Widget' button you are able to choose one of your web galleries and insert an animated thumbnail which cycles through previews of your photos in that particular album. A visitor to your page is able to click on it to visit the specific album.
So there you have it, you can either build photo albums in iWeb without some of the fancy Web Gallery features or you can use the .Mac Web Gallery. The iWeb albums will be tightly integrated with iWeb and your pages but you can still integrate the .Mac Web Gallery to a certain degree by using the 'Insert' or 'Web Widget' options.
I personally plan to use both iWeb Albums and .Mac Web Gallery as they both have their merits for different projects I'm working on.
