Web gallery export bug: Crop ratio change doesn't update correctly

I've just submitted this as a bug to the Aperture feedback site, but then realized that maybe I should have asked around to find out if it was just me or if it's an actual bug.
Try this: Export a web gallery to your site. Now change the cropped aspect ratio of one or more images in the gallery. Now export the gallery again and when Aperture asks if you want to Update or Replace the existing gallery, select Update. (This option is supposed to save time by only sending the changed files to the site.) The image that was cropped differently will still show up in the Index and Detail view with the old ratio, but the new dimensions will be stretched to fit the old ratio.
I've done this repeatedly and it's completely reproducible. The only way to get the gallery to display correctly is to select Replace when exporting the gallery. Obviously, if your gallery is larger than a handful of images this will take a while and it defeats the purpose of the Update option.
Does anyone find this same issue or am I the only one?

Yeah, that makes sense.
I'm thinking now that if I create a new version in the web gallery and crop it just for the web export the app will probably re-send that image out to the web site because it treats the new version as a different image. Since the new version really doesn't take up any meaningful hard drive space this wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but I would have to remember to NOT delete that version or change the crop ratio before uploading the gallery again.

  • Keep filenames in web gallery export

Currently Bridge will generate random filenames when using the web gallery export tool. Drawback of this is that when we manually upload the new images to a server, they don't overwrite the old ones. Okay, it's a matter of remembering to delete the old ones. But also, because we adapt the XML scripts with some more info, we have to re-adapt the XML files every time.
It would be superb if the 'web gallery output' sidebar could have a checkbox to 'keep original filenames'.

Well that's quite a pain. I would have thought that something as simple as exporting to consistent sizes would have been on the top of the 'bug' list. This is a major need for me to output precisely sized low-res photos.

Sorry! I did a search & nothing turned up, but I didn't scroll through all the pages.
Thanks for the tip. I hope someone comes up with a workaround...

  • Where is the display filenames option in web gallery export?

adobe bridge CS4, as i'm understanding this feature went away in later versions.
Just trying to export a web gallery that will include the file name beneath of it.
I thought the feature was non-existnant so I have spent a couple hunded bucks and about two years trying third party options, I prefer that the web gallery export look exactly like bridge.
in reading through these forums again, i see mention of to simply check "Show File Names" when I create a Web Gallery.
I cannot find this option anywhere.
just want to have web gallery with the names of the files beneath the images, if it were searchable, and could be organized by alpha-numerical order just like bridge, that would be what I wish.

adobe bridge CS4, as i'm understanding this feature went away in later versions.
In CS6 it is still there, only under the Template 'HTML Gallery'
Don't have experience myself with Web Gallery so no idea if this has changed but believe it has always been this way, maybe they changed the order of the templates?

  • Controlling filenames in web gallery export

I need to export photos of a specific size with the version names the same as the filenames, and since Aperture apparently can't export a batch of images (using the Fiel/Export function) without varying the size a pixel or two (see my thread: "Variable size on export"), I'm trying to use the web gallery function and sizing the pix the exact dimensions I need.
The problem is that Aperture insists on renaming the files "Picture 001, Picture 002, etc., and I need the filename to match the version name.
Anyone found a way to fix this?

  • Web Gallery export troubles w/ LR 2.3 update (Mac)

I regularly export web galleries (WG) using templates I have created. Earlier today I began having trouble, where LR2.2 would freeze
during a WG export, and I had to force quit LR.
At first, because LR was dragging so slowly, I thought it was a near-full startup disk, so I opened up 31 gb of free space, quit LR and restarted. After the problem reoccured, I thought it was because I had large Tiffs in the WG, which I had never done before, so I excluded them, but it did not help.
Finally I upgraded to LR 2.3, and immediately tried to output a small test WG. When I clicked 'save,' nothing would happen, that is,
the export window would disappear and there would be no indication in the progress bar that the WG was being created, and in Finder sure enough
    nothing was created.
I tried several times. Then I tried it using my template without altering any text in the gallery, and it worked. I repeated this and it worked about 90% of the time. Then I tried it again with my larger web gallery (59 images) and again, nothing happened. I went
back to the simple gallery and it worked; back to larger gallery with text altered: did not work.
EDIT: I am finding it does not like a string of numbers in the "site info" boxes, such as my file number 090217.
    Any ideas?
I am on an iMac Intel, with 4 gb ram, running 10.5.6

  • Aperture 3 PAINFULLY slow on Web Gallery Export

Well, I've just upgraded to Aperture 3 and I have to say I really love all the UI and adjustment improvements. I've had a few crashes, but nothing terrible or shocking or too inconvenient.
Now, though, I've finished processing and editing a job and am attempting to export my web galleries for my client to see and the whole thing grinds to a screeching halt. I'm looking at the activity window and while it's been exporting for 45 minutes already I only have 110 of 340 WEB images exported. What gives? Aperture 2 would've exported this whole thing in 20-30 minutes at the very most. This thing is C R A W L I N G along.
    Am I doing something wrong?
I know there was some talk of ensuring that Ap3 was running in 64 bit mode to get the best performance. Trouble is, I have a 24" 3.06Ghz iMac (4 GB RAM) and I can't even figure out if the **** thing supports 64 bit mode. Can't find any details on Apple's tech specs site. But really. . . can that be it?
I'm really shocked that this web export is going so tediously slowly. It seems like the processing/export engine should've improved in speed from Ap2, not gotten so much worse.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd surely appreciate it.
I'm sure I'll still be here watching the export crawl along by the time someone pipes up.
Other than this issue, though. . . Man it's an amazing UI improvement.
    Thanks.
    max.

Unfortunately, this is a big problem with the program. I did some experiments and found that the more adjustments you have layered up, the slower the export goes.
For example, I took 15 virgin raws and they exported on average 6.7sec/photo, not too shabby, but the photos were of course, flat.
Then I did 15 raws that I had applied a bunch of adjustments to, including shadows/highlights and some minor dodging. These took 14 minutes (56sec/photo).
I turned off the s/h brick in these photos and they exported in 5 mins flat, basically 1/3 of the time.
The other night I exported a photo that I had used s/h, and extensive brushing on. 1 photo took over 10 mins (I didn't time it exactly). So it appears that the big culprits are brushing and shadows/highlights.
I filed a bug report to Apple, via the feedback option in the Aperture menu. I suggest you carry out your own testing and do the same. Hopefully it's something that can be addressed, as I find shadows/highlights and brushing quite useful for the photos I take.
One more thing: a Mea Culpa of sorts.
In another thread titled "Aperture Frustrations" I had mentioned about switching to another program. Yes, I too was frustrated.
Well I tried that for a day or two, and well, I'm back. I had come from V2 of that program to Aperture and realized why I did it in the first place. Aperture just does such a nice job with my 7D raw files and everything about the workflow is just better. I really missed the level of control I have with curves, levels, shadows/highlights etc. Not to mention the very good DAM aspects of A3.
Even though there are annoying performance problems, I am willing to ride it out and hope for the best (i.e. a performance patch). However, you can bet that Apple will be getting bug reports and enhancement requests from me on a regular basis!
We all deserve this thing to work as advertised, and once it does, I think you'll see lots of people switching over.

  • When I crop in LR3 and move into PSE, the crop ratio changes.

I like LR's crop tool better than PSE, so I use that to crop before I move into PSE for further editing. I don't know if this would make a difference, but I do save the LR copy as a jpeg first cause I'm not always ready to finish editing it at that point (I know, not what everybody else does but it works for me). I crop in LR using 15x11, but when I open it in PSE it is only 13x9 (roughly). Any idea why the size would change? Should I not crop until I'm done editing, then go back into LR for the final cropping? Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

I understand how that would work, but I don't understand why it does it even AFTER I save the LR file as a cropped jpeg? If I save a crop in LR, shouldn't it save at the size I crop it to? I'm mainly referring to photos that I save first as a jpeg and export to my folders from LR, THEN open in PSE.

  • TFS 2012 Update 4 - Build Alert - "A build controller or agent's status changes" doesn't work correctly

We are running TFS2012 Update 4 and have set up some build alerts.  The alert we have set up is "A build controller or agent's status changes".  When this alert is first set up the default filters which are included are for fields "Team
Project" and "Status".  However through much testing we have discovered that when either of these fields are included as a filter the alert doesn't work.  When other fields are used in the filter the alert works fine (as long
as neither of the stated fields are included), indeed if all alert filters are removed then the alert also works successfully.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there an issue with the fields "Team Project" and "Status"?

  • Cluster typedef doesn't update correctly

    Hello everyone,
I am new to using typedef controls so i'm hoping that I just overlooked something simple.  I am using a cluster typedef control in Labview 8.6 consisting of enumerated controls and a few numeric controls.  I've noticed that when I change the typedef cluster, it does not update properly on the VI in which it is used.  A specific example, which has been driving me crazy:
I decided that I need to change one enumerated control within the cluster so it's name is more descriptive and it has more options.  So i open the typedef control, change the name, and add two items through edit items... Save and Close.
Now, when I open the main VI that I use, I see that the name of the enumerated control has updated, but the new list items are missing.  Since Auto-update is selected, I can't click Apply Changes, since they were technically already updated.  To get around this I have to delete the typedef control and add it back in.
Since the name is updating, I know that it is linked properly.  Did I do something wrong when making the typedef control?  I've attached the control itself, although I doubt this will help.
    Thanks.

I'd like to push this up to the labview dev folks and ask why could a string outputing version of an enum not be created and functional as a type def. I understand the difference between enums an rings. But I would like to suggest that the powers that be create a data type version for strings similar to the enum which updates all instances of a type def when changes are made to the string content within.
To draw a parallel. An enum pairs the string label with a number and packages the two as part of the type def. Instead could we not pair the string label with a string and again package the two as a type def? You could choose to have the label and string content match or not as needed but the pair would update universally.
Here is one instance where this would be useful. I have been using the Asynchronous Message Communication Library lately which utilizes the standard Labview queue funcitons. While the standard queue functions can accept various data types the AMC library is limited to string messages only and rewriting the entire AMC lib is time prehibitive.
So it would be very convienent to have something that looks like a combo box constant as a type def to feed into the AMC libraries instead of individual string constants. It would significantly reduce errors when repeatedly typing the same sting constants repeatedly only to find them the hard way after hours of debug.

  • Finder still doesn't update correctly?

    10.4.5
After all the incarnations, the Finder still reports incorrect file sizes, and number of files in folders, routinely. This really scares me, since I can "Get Info" on a folder, have the info say it's empty, though it's not. What if I delete that folder? I've then lost files because the Finder can't tell me correctly what's in the folder. The only thing I've found that works reliably is to log out & back in, but that's no way to have to work.
What IS the deal with this?
    DP2G G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi, Dave.
It's an annoying quirk of Finder. I've also found, when this occurs, one can also simply change the view of a Finder window, e.g. from List to Icon and then back to List, or the sort order of the window, to get it to "wake up" to the changes. Sometimes simply clicking on a blank area in the window works. I don't see this often, but I agree it's annoying.
You might want to take a look at Nudge.
It wouldn't hurt to submit a Mac OS X Feedback. The more "squeaky wheels" the better.
    Good luck!

  • Web Gallery - Upload from web page doesn't work

I've created a web gallery with upload permissions set, no name or password, and none of my friends or relatives can get anything to successfully upload.
I'm using iPhoto 8 version 7.0.2 (341) to build my web gallery, but uploading for others just doesn't work. They get the dialog to enter their name and email, they can choose images, they get the progress window, then nothing. I've deleted the gallery and rebuilt it, I've renamed it, I've looked in my _gallery folders on iDisk, and so no, ad nauseum, ad infinitum.
Anybody know what's up with the Gallery?

I've not used the upload but some have reported that it does not work BUT that uploading via e-mail does work -- give the e-mail route a try as a work around and report the problem to Apple -- iPhoto menu ==> Provide iPhoto Feedback

  • Web gallery image setting control

Develop settings persist in slideshow, but web galleries seem to have had the settings changed considerably. Has anyone else seen the not-at-all-subtly increased brightness (gamma change?) on web gallery exported images? Is there a way to configure LR to not do this, or to set export preferences other than size and compression quality? Workarounds, if not? Other gallery software recommended (LR exports work fine for me, just not through the web gallery)?
My experience is on an Intel Duo iMac 10.4.10. (And staying there until Adobe releases LR for 10.5.)
I have searched the forum for previous discussions on the topic. I did not find anything relevant. Apologies if I missed something.
    Thanks for any wisdom!

Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you got an answer to this question. I am desperately trying to figure out how to post my pictures in their ORIGINAL SIZE to my web gallery.

  • How to I get uploaded web gallery photos to auto populate with my events?

When somebody uploads a photo in my web gallery, it syncs with the web gallery on iPhoto. However, it doesn't sync with the original event on iPhoto. I know I can drag the uploaded photo into the event. However, I have many photos and don't know when somebody has uploaded a photo and to which event in web gallery.
Is there any way around this?
    Al

    Taking this a step further...
I identify the photos that someone else has uploaded to my web gallery.
I select and drag these photos to "Events" in iPhoto, and this creates a new event.
I drag the new event onto the old event to consolidate the photos.
I edit the photos I want to keep and delete the rest.
However, this changes / removes the photos uploaded by the other person in the web gallery. So, what procedure should I have followed to prevent changing / deleting the photos from this person? I would prefer to keep all of the photos in the same event. Will the following work:
    1) Select only the photos that I want
    2) Create duplicates of them in the web gallery
    3) Drag the duplicates to "Events" and consolidate these with my original event
    4) Edit the photos
Or, is there a better way?

  • Flip the crop ratio in camera/photos app?

In the new photos app, does anyone know how to flip the crop ratio, change it from say 2:3 to 3:2? This used to be simple in iOS 7 and earlier, and it's a common feature of photo apps (iPhoto, Aperture, Pixelmator, etc.), but it seems to be missing from iOS 8.
Let's say you want to do a portrait crop from a landscape photo using a set ratio like 5 x 7. In iOS 8 there appears to be no way to do this easily. You can flip the photo, edit it while on its side (not a natural view which makes doing a nice crop more difficult), then flip the photo back to its proper orientation, but that's a lot of unnecessary steps.
Am I missing an easy way to do this?

    Good day!
I notice no difference to prior to 8.4.
But maybe the ACR Forum may be a better place for questions realted to ACR.
