Web object widget

I have a web object widget which I have linked to the following webpage http://permissions.cla.co.uk/titlesearch.html  When I go to view my project the web object does not appear?

Thank you!  Only been using Captivate a couple of months.
So, just to confirm.  I am unable to view the webpage in normal project view mode - I have to go to view in web browser mode to see the web object?

  • Web object widget (cp7) and TOC

    I am using a web object widget to launch MP4 videos (hosted on a progressive streaming server) within my captivate course. I am wondering if there is a way to accurately track the duration (in the TOC) for these videos. The duration displayed on the TOC is only for the captivate slide duration and does not include the video. Any suggestions?

    Hi BubbaRB and welcome to the forums.  I love it when people have great questions regarding integration.. and this is an area that Adobe Captivate needs to be better at!  It would be nice if the stock web page widget in Cp 7 had the ability to substitute Cp user variables in the URL to make for dynamic rendering of the web page, but unfortunately that's a limitation of the stock widget.
    The web page widget on CaptivateDev.com is capable of variable substitution in the URL.  You just need to enclose the variable with double dollar signs $$cpQuizInfoStudentID$$.

  • Web Object Widget non-functional?

    Hello again!
    So I'm trying to use the web object widget to pull up a surveygizmo survey (which provides handy web links, HTML embeds, java embeds etc.), but it's not loading up. It works only when in previews within Captivate. Once published, it does not work. I have tested it both in our LMS (Cornerstone), and on SCORM Cloud. I've gone even further to change it to the default Bing.com to see if I can even bring anything up with the web object and again tested it on SCORM cloud and even Bing.com wouldn't come up.
    Am I doing something wrong, missing something necessary to make the web object widget to work? I've published in both HTML5, SWF, and a SWF/HTML5 combo. Any help would be great! Thanks!

    This seems like a similar question - http://forums.adobe.com/message/6142119#6142119
    I haven't run into the problem you have, but it sounds like it won't show any Web site once you've published, right?
    Is there perhaps some issue with the LMS? Or are you saying it also does not work when you upload it to SCORM Cloud?
    I recall I ran into a problem with a Web Object when I had checked off the "Scalable HTML content" during publishing. I don't remember the specific issue, but there was a problem with that.
    Best of luck!

  • Web Object Widget and replacing Variables in the URL

    I am using the new Web Object Widget in Captivate 7 and need some help with setting up the URL for the widget correctly.  If I hard-code a static web page address, the widget works fine.  The problems comes up when I need to slightly change the tail-end of the web address depending on who is taking the course.
    I need to dynamically append some variable information onto the web address that we will be calling such as:
    http://www.someplace.com/customizeforstudent.htm?Student_Name=$$studentName$$&Student_ID=$$studentId$$
    Is there any way to dynamically load the variable information into this widget when the student takes the course?
    I know that I was able to use the samples on captivatedev.com to do this web page variable replacement when I used JavaScript on a button so I know it can be done that way.
    (see: http://captivatedev.com/2013/08/08/javascript-solution-launch-a-url-with-captivate-variabl es-as-parameters/ )
    The down-side of the captivatedev.com example is that it forces the web page to show up "outside" the course (either in a new window or it takes over the browser window the course is playing in.  I want to use the web object widget so I can stay "within" the normal flow of the course we are developing.
    I have been able to get the student name and student id from our LMS using JavaScript (thanks again to http://captivatedev.com).
    Whatever process we come up with needs to work not only with Flash, but also HTML5.
    Thank you for your time.

  • Web object widget within a lightbox

    Hi there,
    I am creating a lightbox interaction in Captivate 7 that contains the Web object interaction widget.
    When I preview it by pressing F12, the widget does not appear.
    I have added all the proper advanced action scripting and everything else is working but not the widget.
    Any thoughts on what might be the issue?
    Thanks in advance

    Try uploading to a web server and testing from there.

  • Web-object interaction/widget does not appear in published slideshow

    I added the web-object interaction/widget using my notes from the instructions in the relevant Lynda.com video (as the Captivate 7 User Guide makes no mention of the web page widget, web-object widget, web object widget, web-object interaction, web-page interaction, web page interaction, or webpage interaction).
    The web-object interaction, or web-object widget (or whatever you choose to call the thingie that should provide the user of the published project slideshow with direct interaction with a web page from within one of the slides), it sometimes works in preview; may have worked once when published; but otherwise does not appear on the slide.
    On its not appearing in either the published HTML document or the SWF file:
    --I had a Continue button on the slide, and tried removing that.
    This did not help.
    --Because the web-object interaction/widget automatically sets the slide's action on entrance to "Pause," I tried setting it to "No action" (thinking that the slide, being pause on entrance, might never get to the web-object widget/interaction).
    This did not help.
    --I thought that perhaps navigating in the slide show with various "Jump to slide" settings, I would watch it without navigation.
    This did not help.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Jeff

    In the published folder, I noticed a SWF called stagewebview. I guess this file has got something to do with Web Object interaction. When we link to published HTML file, this SWF is getting called automatically. But in your case since you are linking to published SWF file, the web object interaction SWF is not getting called. So, is it not possible for you to link it to HTM file?

  • Sizing an Embedded Video into Web Object

    Siziing an Embedded Video into Web Object
    I've created a html page and placed a video player in it, I used the link to place it in my Captivate 7 Project by using the Web Object Widget. The problem I am having is getting the size right. I've tried changing the size of the player and widget. it seems to go out of wack.

    If I am seeing it correctly, the message in the video box
    is reporting that the player has crashed. Reloading the
    page should fix it. If your player still does not work
    after reloading the page, you can go to the web page
    for the player and download the player again.

  • How to display an element on top of a web object

    Hello,
    I would like to display some grouped elements on top of a web object in my project.
    If you look at the image below, the large black frame is a web object that will play a video in an iframe.
    I'd like to put a smart shape (the white outlined box) on top of that web object with a text object inserted and an image button (the X).
    The idea is that when the video plays people can see what the video title is and click the X so that the box disappears if they wish to do so.
    But even though the group is on top of the web object in the timeline, as soon as the video loads and starts playing the web object takes pole position and the box, text, X, etc disappear.
    Any ideas how I can retain the layer order, even when the video starts playing?
    Thanks.
    R.

    What if you use a script and use a image with the video name and the "x" I´m using the google logo as example.
    var widget = document.querySelector("[id*='Widget'],[id*='Web']")
    var ronanImageTitle = document.createElement("img");
    ronanImageTitle.setAttribute("src", "https://www.google.com/images/srpr/logo11w.png");
    ronanImageTitle.setAttribute("style", "position:absolute; z-index:100; top:0; width:50%");
    $(ronanImageTitle).fadeIn( "slow" , 0);
    $(ronanImageTitle).click(function() {
    $(ronanImageTitle).fadeOut( "slow" , 0);
    $(widget).append(ronanImageTitle);

  • Web Object not visible in published project

    I'd like to use the new web object interaction widget in Captivate 7 to embed a website into a project. Everything works fine as long as I  only preview the project in my web browser. But when I publish it and go to the slide where the web object is supposed to be, there's only a blank space. Why?
    I've published the project in SWF-Format with  eLearning-output set to "AdobeConnect". I tried to switch the option "Scalable HTML content" on and off as I heared that some people are having problems using this in connection with widgets, but no matter whether it's turned on or of, the web object doesn't show up. There must be something very
    trivial that I have overlooked since I'm using the web object in the standard way it is meant to be used.
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Andreas

    Thanks for your advice, but it still doesn't work. I have created a new project for my tests with only the web object in it to make sure no other objects etc. are influencing the output. I  published the project and tried to run it on different browsers/operating systems and directly from my hard drive vs. Adobe Connect. The results:
    Using my Mac and opening the project with the HTM.-file from my hard drive after I have added the published files folder  to the trusted locations for Flash (without this setting, it doesn't work), the web object only appears in Safari, but not in Chrome and Firefox. Using AdobeConnect, it's the same: only Safari.
    Using a Windows laptop (again opening the project with the HTM.-file from my hard drive after I have added the published files folder  to the trusted locations for Flash), it works with Internet Explorer and Firefox, but not with Chrome. Using AdobeConnect, no browser works. I only get this message:
    I can't use the web object when it only loads under very special circumstances. Moreover, I found out, that checking the "Scale HTML content" checkbox in the publish window  results in a totally misplaced web widget in those browsers that support the web object. It then looks like this:
    I use this option regularly, so this is really a problem for me.
    I hope you can tell, what I can do to get the web object running. I simply can't believe that this  is the standard behaviour and that everybody else is experiencing the same problems. There must be something I can do to get it running.
    I hope you can help.
    Best Regards

  • Web object not resizing with presentation

    I've added a web object in my elearning and published as a flash presentation.  When I resize the browser window, the flash presentation resizes, but the web object does not resize. My users will have various screen sizes, so I need the web object to display proportionally to the project size.
    I'm using a flash widget, so I cannot publish as HTML5.
    Thank you for any help or assistance.

    Hi there, unfortunately I don't have the answer but I'd like to support your question as I'm having exactly the same issue.
    Cheers,

  • Captivate 7 Web Page Widget misaligned - Transform Property

    I just upgraded to Captivate 7 and am using a Widget to embed Web Page content for the first time.
    The project looks fine when I preview it, but when I publish it and post it to our LMS (SumTotal Maestro), the widget appears skewed in the resulting course window, like the whole widget just shifted 60 pixels to the left and 30 pixels down.
    I have tried using multiple web sites, so I don't think that is the problem.
    There is the Transform Property, which gets set automatically when you drag the widget around the interface screen. On a hunch I moved the widget's Transform Property 60 pixels right and 30 pixels up. That worked, in that the updated widget looks better in the final published project. But now it's skewed both in the workspace and when I preview it, not to mention getting it precisely where it needs to be is going to be a process of moving a couple of pixels, publishing and seeing how it looks, then repeating.
    Has anyone encountered this? Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere that messes up the Transform property?
    Thank you!

    Here is the reply (in bold) I got from Suresh Jayaraman from Adobe when I logged this as a bug.
    "The issue you are facing has nothing to do with SCORM setting. Probably you might have heard about Click Jacking , One of the ways web sites prevent themselves from this attack is by not displaying when loaded in a Frame or iFrame. They achieve this by setting the X-Frame options. They website you were trying to load in Web object was Adobe forums which has this protection and it is the case with some other websites like Google.com, facebook.com as well. As Web object interaction on run time loads the website in an iFrame such protected websites when loaded doesn’t show up."
    "I have attached a test file which would help you to determine whether the website you are loading is Click Jacking protected or not. Change the website address and launch the page from a web server and if it loads all is well, it would load in your Web Object interaction as well. Now enable reporting and try the same page from SCORM.com and It should display the page."
    The test file he is referring to is a html file. Since I cannot attach the file here, I am copy-pasting the source code:
    <html>
       <head>
         <title>Clickjack test page</title>
       </head>
       <body>
         <iframe src="http://www.google.com" width="500" height="500"></iframe>
       </body>
    </html>
    To test, first I changed the website address in the above code to that of Adobe forums. When I had inserted this site in my Web Object interaction, this site failed to show up (see my previous posts). When I launched this test file shared by Suresh from a webserver, the result was same... the site did not open.
    Next, I changed the website address to http://infosemantics.com.au. This site worked in Web Object Interaction and it worked here as well.
    I did not test it in SCORM Cloud as I was convinced by the reason Suresh provided. (I hope I am not wrong.)

  • Can Web Object be hidden?

    I need to show a window with text on the same page as a Web Object. The text window appears with a button click. However, the Web Object is always on top. Is there a way to hide the Web Object temporarily, or, make it so it is not always on top?

    Just checked it out and it was perfectly possible to have a text container (made it transparent, only text) on top of a web object, and have a (shape) button that makes it appear. Can you check the Timeline: is the text on this slide and is it on top of the Web ojbect widget?
    And what do you mean by 'temporarily' hiding the web object?

  • Web Object Interaction in CP7

    I've been experimenting with the Web object Interaction in CP7.  The Techworld link I'm using is fine when it's entered directly in the browser - it shows the article, and also login/register links to sign in.  However, when I launch it from the interaction, it just brings up the login/register links without the article.
    Does anyone know why?  I've tried it in the same window and a separate window that's 1000x800, and the result's the same.

    Just a follow-up to this.  I think what it's doing is showing the page without any formatting - the secure view.  I'll link directly to the page instead of using the widget, I guess.
    Edit:  Linking directly to the page didn't help, but when I published it onto our web server and tested it from there, it behaved correctly.  I think it's one of my security programs, probably ThreatFire, that's catching the link and forcing it to display only the secure view.
    In any case, all is well...

  • Problem with Jdeveloper and the Web Object Manager

    I am trying to register a servlet through the web object manager.
    As soon as click the web object manager menu pick I get the following
    error: Could not load servlet information from web server.
    On other peoples machines here it works fine and they can register
    servlets. What am I missing!

    hmmmm, wondering if I understood you correctly:
    first try the file association - right click on one of the movie files (you should tell as well with extension) then 'open with' menu then go to 'choose program' and then choose one of them and coach the box "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" in your example 'window media player'.
    the other point I understood is that in download directly into your browser, well there is a settin for this in the option, don't know where exactly, but you can avoid this by right clicking on the movie/file link and choose 'save target as ...' this forces it to download it on your disk and then you can open it.
    hope this kinda helps
    Cheers

  • Can I use JavaScript to force objects to overlap a Web Object in Captivate 7?

    Hi, so I have all of these great ideas for using Web Objects to enhance my courses, but am discouraged by the fact that I can't seem to get anything to overlap a Web Object. The only thing I can seem to get to overlap a Web Object is another Web Object. I have found that buttons seem to still work under the Web Object (which is good) but I really would like to know of a way to allow things on the Captivate timeline to be viewed on top of them. Things like text fields and images.
    I've seen posts about how to use JavaScript to have the menu show above Web Objects, but that code doesn't seem to work for regular objects. I read that Web Objects sit in an "<iframe>" tag and that that forces it to appear above everything else. I'm left wondering if it is possible to get around this by somehow putting Captivate objects in an <iframe> of their own with JavaScript? Or is there some other way? Does anybody know any JavaScript I can apply to Captivate objects to get them to appear above a Web Object?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    So I have come to learn that the "<iframe>" tag for a Web Object is simply a window that sits on top of the course. Now I'm wondering if anyone has an effective method for importing flash quality animation (in whatever form) that can sit underneath of Captivate objects and still be HTML5 compliant?
    Thanks,
    Dan
