Web-Sharing preference and apachectl not in sync in 10.5?

I noticed the following after upgrading to Leopard:
In the CLI, if I type:
+sudo apachectl -k start+
The Apache2 Server starts. Same thing happens when I click "Web Sharing" in the System Preferences. Previously, a change in the CLI would affect the System Preference directly and vise-versa. This does not happen now. I can start Apache in the CLI and those changes are not reflected in the System Preferences. It's like two separate Apache2 processes are created when they should be in sync. Is this expected behavior with Apache2?
Steps to repeat this situation:
1) Turn on Web Sharing in the Sharing panel
2) browse to http://localhost to verify that the server is running
3) Open Terminal and type: sudo apachectl -k start
4) Turn off Web Sharing in the Sharing panel
5) Verify that http://localhost is still running!?
6) Quit the apache server: sudo apachectl -k stop

Make sure there is a small gap between each audio file and the start and end of the timeline on each slide.  That can help force the synchronisation to be a little more exact.  However, since you are outputting to MP4 the entire project will end up as one big video file.  So the synchronisation of audio with video is also somewhat dependent on the end user PC's ability to decode the video in time.

  • Power book G4 Leopard 10.5.8. File sharing preference checked but not working after start up until unchecked and the rechecked?

    I hope the title is enough info, please ask. In the mean time I have created an applescript to open preferences/ sharing and uncheck then check the file sharing box. This works but I would obviously prefer it just work normally. I have no corrupt preference files. Perhaps a file is missing? Thank you.

    Greetings Kwnez
    I'm not up to your level of expertise yet. I'm networking and file sharing too, on my Mac Powerbook 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4; OS 10.5.8 Lepoard. At the public library I found by asking the clerk a book Authored by David Pogue. "Mac OS X Leopard the Missing Manual". It (the book) has helped me ask better questions. I'm not saying that your question "
    Power book G4 Leopard 10.5.8. File sharing preference checked but not working after start up until unchecked and the rechecked?
    is hard for me to understand, I went to system preferences and looked at the sharing box. when I clik it it opens up and the first thing I see is my computers name, and under that i see, " Computers on your local network can access your computer at: ...-powerbook-g4-15.local"
    What I'm saying is "Are we on the same Page"

  • Web Sharing Start and Stop routines...

    Does any one know where to find the actual start and stop methods that get executed when you turn on/off Personal Web Sharing in System Preferences. A long while back I found where those were to do some custom event upon web sharing start-up/shut-down, and now I can't remember where those are located.

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6792272&#6792272
    answered my question, which helped me to find an error:
    sudo /usr/sbin/apachectl start
    Syntax error on line 241 of /etc/httpd/httpd.conf:
    Cannot load /usr/libexec/httpd/modhfsapple.so into server: (reason unknown)
    /usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started
    it appears that this Apache module: modhfsapple.so file is missing. (It was in the locate database, but the file is now gone) I recently had some disk errors and restored from a backup drive, but maybe the backup itself had been missing some of the same files. Bummer.
    Now I am wondering if I have to reinstall 10.4 from the DVD or if I can somehow repair/reinstall just the Apache modules to get Personal Web Sharing up and running again?
    It's probably safer to reinstall the whole OS, since I don't really know what other bits and pieces might be missing. I have one Intel Mac and one PPC Mac, so I don't think I could safely pilfer the missing shared object module from one to the other.

  • Blank Web Sharing Preference Pane

    Hi all,
    Whenever I go to the Web Sharing Preference Pane I see it blank like in
    www.queesaixo.com/repo/wspp.png
    On the other hand, other sharing panes like DVD sharing is ok
    www.queesaixo.com/repo/dvdpp.png
    Apache is running totally fine. I'm using MySQL 5.0 and PHP with it. Any idea why this could happen?
    The only message I get on system.log is:
    Mar 30 15:54:25 xxxxxx System Preferences[54096]: * -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: NSLink)
    This message appears when I open the Web Sharing pane, but not when I open any other.
    Thanks!
    Miguel

    Old network software, no.  What would that consist of?
    Forcefully change kernal extensions, no.
    Is there a way I can double check myself here?  Maybe one of these is the case, unbeknownst to me.

    I just got an iPad 2 and have not yet synced to my computer. I don't want to have all the duplicate songs in my iTunes. How do I get rid of duplicates?

    You don't say whether you are on PC or Mac. For Mac there are these two programs which might help (I havn't tried either) :
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/ipod_itunes/songsergeant.html
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/ipod_itunes/idupe.html
    There are probably similar programs for PCs, but I don't know what they are. On a PC you can hold the shift key and do File > Display Exact Duplicates (without the shift they may not be exact matches) - if one of each duplicate pair has the same date added then you can sort by that and then delete those with (or without) that date.

    Um ... some useful data?
    OS/CPU/RAM/GPU/vRAM ... version of PrPro ... and other programs or plugi-ins/3rd-party apps involved ... footage type/codec/wrapper ... such things would be very useful.

  • Apple TV does not appear in preferences and therefore I cannot sync. Help!!

    Apple TV does not appear in devices and does not appear in preferences. I can access my music libary between ATV and Itunes.
    What am I doing wrong? I will have no hair left shortly!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    The Apple TV 2 shouldn't appear in devices or in preferences and you cannot sync content to the Apple TV 2, all those things relate to the Apple TV 1 only.

  • Web sharing starts but will not turn off

    I have enabled web sharing and been running successfully for a long time, recently upgraded to Lion.
    The problem I have now is that I can turn Apache on through the Web Sharing prefs but it will not turn off, technically that not true as the instance is killed off but something is restarting the httpd processes (new pid's). As far as the Pref pane is concerned Apache is off (un checked box), though in reality, a new instance is running.
    The only way to turn it off is by su apachectl stop.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Adam.

    Have you tried to hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds or so, until you see a silver apple. See if you can get it to reboot.

  • Help! I need to get web sharing up and running!

    I am working on a web project and just downloaded MAMP only to find that the Apache Server is not running on my laptop running OSX 10.7.5. My understanding is that all I need to do is to turn on Web Sharing but for some reason it refuses to start up... I did some searching around on the web to see what i should do and then Ran Console to see what messages the system was throwing up when I started up web sharing... here is what I got...
    10/8/13 11:53:16.724 AM org.apache.httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 192.168.1.254 for ServerName
    When I open a browser and put in 192.168.1.254, I get the configuration page for the AT&T gateway! why would apache use the ip for the gateway?
    Can anyone look at this and tell me what I need to do to get Apache started? This is for a very important project that I need to start for a client and I did not expect Apache not to work on my machine.. Please note that I am not too familiar with command line interface so if I need to go into terminal it would be helpful to have step by step instructions... Any help would be greatly appreciated, even pointers to references that might help...
    Many thanks!
    David

    Not sure about MAMP but have a look at Setting up a local web server on Lion and Mountain Lion  for how to get apache running.

  • Web Sharing, TimeMachine, and CFURL

    So I've been using web sharing under 10.5 for months. Yesterday, I decided to upgrade my harddrive. After making sure everything was saved under TimeMachine, I swapped in the new hard drive, did a system restore, went to sleep, and woke up to my new computer with 200gb of free space! Flawless.
    Except: now WebSharing doesn't work. I try to access Localhost, 127.0.0.1, or my computer's IP addy and Safari looks at me as if I had gone mad: "Safari can’t find the server." it says. Well, why not?
    I tried investigating via command line and got this error:
    launchctl: CFURLWriteDataAndPropertiesToResource(/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache. httpd.plist) failed: -10
    Investigating the file, it looks ok. Thinking it might be a permissions issue, I allowed more write access, but then it said "Dubious permissions on file (skipping)." Well ****. So now I am stumped. Do you have any ideas?

    bheliker wrote:
    Yes, using localhost, 127.0.0.1 and my IP address all result in the same issue.
    Attempting to start apache it throws the error "already running" but stopping and starting or restarting has no effect...
    thanks for the help,
    brett
    If you turn off WebSharing, do you still have any httpd events showing up in the Application Monitor?
    It sounds like one of more of the server files are corrupt or misplaced.
    Did you ever make any changes to any of the server files?

    I want it back to normal... can anyone help with simple guide/steps

    We are able to register the Web providers Successfully now.A part of the problem stands resolved.However this is the current problem we are facing.We have the Portal on the web.Whenever anyone types the URL for the Portal welcome page he is prompted for a username and a password(facilitated by the Apache Server security by adding the relevant tag in the httpd.conf file).The following is the
    tag added in the httpd.conf file:-
    <Location /servlet>
    AuthName "XXX"
    AuthType Basic
    AuthUserFile "F:/Oracle9iAS/Apache/Apache/bin/users"
    require user kiran
    </Location>
    For a particular user we have added the Exchange portlet on his home page under a tab.Clicking on this particular tab gives the following error when the security is present.
    The following error occurred when attempting to call the
    initSession of the Web Provider: exchangeprovider_XXX
    ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no oraawt in
    java.library.path
    However on removal of the security the same Exchange portlets is displayed without any errors.
    Any help on the above would be welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mp3 and TimerEvent not in sync

    Last night a buddy of mine who I make music with was asking
    me if I could get objects to move in flash in sync with the sounds.
    I said I might be able to, and figured it would be good to load an
    mp3, a simple hihat called hihat.mp3. My idea is to set up a
    TimerEvent that calls a function 'hitHiHat()' every 250
    milliseconds. Problem is, when I run the program, the sound of the
    mp3 is not in sync. I thought this might be a bad idea because the
    TImerEvent might not be very accurate, but I remember reading
    somewhere that the TimerEvent is VERY accurate. If it's not, I
    definitely can't do what I'm trying to do, because the idea is to
    have multiple instruments playing. If it's not the TimerEvent, I
    thought that maybe it's the _sound.play() function that is lagging,
    or that maybe there is a conflict with the mp3 already playing when
    the hitHiHat function is called. Please let me know if I could do
    something to make this program have a bit more rhythm, or if it's
    just a bad idea altogether (code below). THANKS!

    init();

    needsToPlay = true;
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
    circle = new Sprite();
    circle.graphics.beginFill(0xFFFFFF);
    circle.graphics.drawCircle(100,400,40);
    circle.graphics.endFill();
    addChild(circle);
    _sound = new Sound();
    urlReq = new URLRequest("sounds/hihat.mp3");
    _sound.load(urlReq);
    _sound.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, startHiHat);
    tempo = new Timer(250);
    tempo.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, hitHiHat);
    tf.width = 400;
    tf.height = 200;
    tf.border = true;
    tf.multiline = true;
    tf.x = 10;
    tf.y = 20;
    //tf.x = stage.stageWidth / 20;
    //tf.y = stage.stageHeight / 20;
    tf.text = "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
    blah blah blah blah";
    //addChild(tf);
    private function startHiHat(event:Event):void {
    tempo.start();
    private function hitHiHat(event:TimerEvent):void {
    if (needsToPlay == true) {
    soundChan = _sound.play();
    needsToPlay = false;
    soundChan.stop();
    soundChan = _sound.play();

    the timer function (along with setInterval and every other
    loop in flash) is inaccurate and very much dependent on local
    system speed. in short, there is no loop in flash suitable for
    synch'g sound and anything else. the ear it too sensitive to even
    small mis-timings.
    you can however, create a self-correcting loop based on
    getTimer() (which is as accurate as the local system clock) which
    can maintain a small error tolerance. even this, however, may not
    be satisfactory for your purposes and you may need to synch sound
    and animation in a flv.

  • Video and audio not in sync

    Anybody else experiencing video & audio not in sync since upgrading to Lion? I have a MacBook Pro 15-inch, Early 2011 with
    AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB graphics. I mostly stream You Tube, Netflix, & news videos and occasionally watch movies I have in iTunes or on DVD, and since upgrading, I've seen out of sync video and audio in every one of these situations. Sometimes it starts out OK and then slowly deteriorates. Other times it just starts out that way and stays that way. Happens with all browsers as well as iTunes and DVD Player. Tried a few Google searches but haven't come across any postings reporting this with Lion, so I thought I would try here. Thanks for any confirmations and/or pointers to a solution if there is one.

    Ahh...boom. I have it too. Forgot it was even there. I had it turned off back when running Snow Leopard since it was glitchy. Apparenty, I somehow reenabled it and wasn't even aware it was on since its volume was turned down. After disabling it, all video & audio appears to be in sync.
    boom...the sound you'll hear as I nuke it from my system.
    Thanks efrancis76 for figuring this out. Much appreciated!

  • Video and audio not in sync. Other answers here do not help.

    My audio and video are not in sync in many streams but some are OK.
    I do not have any extensions, add-ons and I am using the default theme. I have disabled hardware acceleration. I am now running in Safe Mode and the problem persists.
    The video and audio sync for the first few minutes and then they work their way futhter and further apart, usually several seconds out of sync. I don't think this particular situation has been covered in the other posts.

    You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
    *disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
    *disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
    *disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Video and audio not in sync (ALSA underrun occurred)

    Hi, after a recent system upgrade (upgrade log here http://pastebin.com/1gRwexFr), video and sound are not in sync anymore. The problem occurs in mplayer instantly, and in XBMC after a while (the audio is slowly getting out of sync). The error message I get continuously in XBMC is "ALSA lib pcm.c:7339:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred". The error I get in mplayer is "[ac3 @ 0xf46b40]frame sync error" I did another system upgrade and the problem persists. I'm using Terratec Aureon 7.1 external sound card and linux 3.3.3-1-ARCH. I'm not using pulseaudio, just alsa.
    EDIT: I downgraded (sudo pacman -U linux-3.2.13-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-headers-3.2.13-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-api-headers-3.1.6-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz dbus-1.4.16-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz dbus-core-1.4.16-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz glibc-2.15-7-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz) and the problem seems to be gone. I'm suspecting the kernel upgrade broke it..

    See what buffer size you end up with. Start mplayer, and run:
    cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
