Web sharing will not start OS X Lion

Hi there,
I am new to all this so I have probably made some simple errors and I hope someone can help me. I will retell what I have done as I haven't a clue what part of what I have done has mucked things up.
I am really stuck. Web sharing will not start on my iMac running Lion OS X. It did work fine and then I wanted to activate PHP so my test website contact form would work (and send the data on the form throught to my email address.
Before I did anything I turned on websharing and could view my website from another computer using: http://192.168.1.4/~stewartfergusson/
I think followed the instructions on this link to activate PHP - http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/php_leopard.php
I then did a few things in terminal and will paste below what I did:

Password:

Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:etc stewartfergusson$
An important point to note is that I now appear to have more than one http.config file and they are located in the following locations:
1) Macintosh HD/etc/apache2/httpd.conf.default
2) Macintosh HD/etc/apache2/httpd.conf.default.default
3) Macintosh HD/etc/apache2/original/httpd.conf
I edited this file (which one I have not got a clue) and also the php.ini file within Macintosh HD/etc/ using Terminal - the command I used was sudo cp php.ini.default php.ini
This php.ini file now exists in two locations now as well:
1) Macintosh HD/etc/php.ini
2) Macintosh HD/etc/php.ini.default
I then edited this file by changing the line of code below from:
514 error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE (I think it said E_DEPRECATED actually) but I am lifting this from the web page in the link above)
To:
514 error_reporting = E_ALL
I then saved this file.
I then deactivated web sharing in System Preferences and since then have not been able to restart Web Sharing. I click it and it flashes orange for a second then does not start.
This was all done to activate PHP on my iMac so I can host my own site which has a PHP contact form page.
Please help I am so out of my depth I am very worried I may have changed things and I am going to forget what I did.
If you need to know anything then please ask.
Thank you so much

Try changing your computer's name. To do so go to the Sharing preference pane and change the computer's name to something else. Try restarting web sharing after this...

The solution to your problem is most likely contained within your question.
You'll need to locate the machine on your network that has the same name as yours and change its name... or you'll need to rename your computer to something else.

  • Web sharing is not starting

Yesterday i reinstalled the os x bundle cause of isyn was not working properly now isync is working fine but web sharing is not starting. i checked on web sharing from system preferences when i closed the window and comeback again to sharing i see web sharing everytime unchecked i did also locked but still unchecked. if i go to localhost/mysite its say: "Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost/” because it could not connect to the server “localhost”. please tell what i am doing wrong.

Thanks web sharing is working but if i type http://localhost/gmm/index.html it says"Not Found"
The requested URL /gmm/index.html was not found on this server.
but if i type http://localhost/index.html it shows apache page and says "This page is here because the site administrator has changed the configuration of this web server. Please contact the person responsible for maintaining this server with questions. The Apache Software Foundation, which wrote the web server software this site administrator is using, has nothing to do with maintaining this site and cannot help resolve configuration issues." but i can't see this page in the Sites folder. I didn't change any thing, don't know what to do.

  • Pages 09 (updated) will not start up using Lion OSX

iWork Pages 09 (updated) will not start up using Lion OSX. It did work at one time but now it won't. I reinstalled iWork several times with updates but the applications say to reinstall or check the developer.  I'm using an i-Mac Intel with updated downloads for all applications.  Thank You in Advance for your thoughts to solving this concern.

What else have you been doing just before this problem started? Any other updates on the computer? If you need to reinstall iWork which some has when upgrading to Lion after a complete uninstall.
To uninstall correctly iWork, go to Yvans iDisk :
    <http://public.me.com/koenigyvan>
    Download :
    For_iWork:iWork '09:uninstall iWork '09.zip
Expand the archive and run the script.
Now you can instal iwork again and do the updates.

  • Web Service will not start

I tried installing ColdFusion 9 and linking apache to the install. Because the Apache binary was 64bit I had to convert it to 32bit to for the ColdFusion install to work. I backed up the 64bit version and made the new 32bit version my httpd file.
After installing coldfusion finished I went to update some sites in Server Admin. When I tried to save changes in sites (removing a site) the list of sites went blank, clicked on settings, then back to sites, and the changes were not saved.
I restarted the entire server. When I came back to Server Admin and tried to "Start Web" i received the following error:
Try to refresh the view (waterengine.local/Web). (Could not start web service - details in error log.) 100002
I've already replaced the httpd file back to the original 64bit version and will now uninstall coldfusion. Is there a way to reinstall the web services? Seems like the most likely resolution.

Had to reinstall the server OS because I couldn't find anywhere to do a reinstall of only the Web Service/Apache. I've downloaded the ColdFusion 9 64bit version. hopefully this works or I'll reinstall the OS one more time and give up on running ColdFusion 9 on this system until I can find someone who has done a successful install. This time I'll backup so I don't have to do a 45 minute remote re-install, although I thought that was pretty fast over wifi.

  • IPhoto part of ilife '11 will not start after fresh Lion re-install

iphoto 9 will not start. It is from my ilife 11 disc.
Oh, I buy a new hard drive. I install lion successfully. All software works as it should. iphoto is installed then automatically updated by the auto update. Now iphoto will not open and says that it needs updating. I run automatic update and it says everything is up-to-date.
I found another post about downloading the iphoto 9 update and running that but it will not let me. So my iphoto is useless at the moment.
Can anyone help or has any ideas. I do not want to re-buy iphoto 9 on Apps store when I already have it (in theory anyhow)
    Thanks

    Go to
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/
Find and download the 9.1 updater. Run it. Then Run Software update again.

  • Web-Sharing does not start up-

    Hello,
I have a problem with my Web-Sharing. When I activate "Web-Sharing" in my Sharing-Preferences, the httpd (Apache webserver) doesn't start up (as can be seen in the activity monitor), thus I'm not able to connect to the webserver with Safari. I only have this issue on my iMac (10.5.2), it works perfectly on the PowerBook (10.5.2).
Does anyone have a solution without reinstalling Leopard?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Web server will not start due to RSA Securid errors

We have an iPlanet 4.1 Service Pack 14 web server that was running fine until last friday. When we go to start the server we get the following error:
    Status:
[https-ivpnas]: start failed. (2: unknown early startup error)
[https-ivpnas]: conf_init: Error running init function securidinit: unknown error
    [https-ivpnas]: server exit: status 1
    Error
    An error occurred during startup.
The server https-ivpnas was not started.
The error log also contains this additional error:
    [27/Sep/2004:10:06:57] info ( 4164): successful server startup
    [27/Sep/2004:10:06:57] info ( 4164): iPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/4.1SP14 BB1-01/15/2004 13:04
[27/Sep/2004:10:06:58] catastrophe ( 4164): securidauth reports: InitAceClient returned FALSE
This website uses RSA Securid for authentication. We have contacted RSA and they think it is a webserver problem. Any insight anyone can provide would be great. Thanks!

The error message is generated by the RSA plugin, not Web Server. RSA should be able to help diagnose the problem further.

  • Bridge will not start in Mountain Lion

I originally had this problem with Lion but a reinstall of the system cleared things up. Now since installing Mountain Lion Bridge bounces once in the dock and thats it. There is not even a recognition there was a crash.

So, I've been having a problem very like this and perhaps can offer a bit of insight. At least I found what was going south for me.
My problem looked like this: Start Bridge and there'd be a flicker of a window followed by a dialog with "Bridge is unable to perform this action" (or words to that effect) followed by a crash.
After reading this thread I tried the previously-unknown-to-me OPTION start. That didn't fix the problem but it did eliminate the crash!
    Interesting.
Now this problem began for me when I upgraded to Mountain Lion a while ago. After that my system began to become increasingly unstable. When I bought a large SSD to be my system volume I thought it would be a good time to do a clean install of everything.
That went well, actually. Bridge worked in the new account I created! Wonderful! But I needed to use Migration Assistant to bring over my old account which had existed, more or less unchanged, since OS X 10.0! But then I began to have the same kind of instability I had seen before: Finder crashing, Path Finder crashing, and Bridge not working although the other Adobe products including Lightroom 4 worked just fine.
So I poked around and here's what I found: different Groups. In older versions of OS X the user account was a part of group Wheel. This time it was a part of group Staff. Different group numbers. Hmmm. So I started at the top level directory of Users where all the accounts live and I changed the Group, recursively, to Staff.
And then Bridge worked fine and there were no more Finder crashes, at least until I shut down for the night.
So you might want to check both ownership, group and permissions in your accounts and see if this is a part of the probem.
Why Mountain Lion (or maybe even Lion) changed the assigned Group for new accounts I cannot explain although, as I was walking the critters tonight and gazing up at the just-past-full moon, I wondered if it isn't because OS X Server can be installed as a layer over ML and this is a part of that compatibility.
Now I do think that by changing the whole tree heirarchy I may have changed invisible files that shouldn't have been modified. But for right now I'll live with that and see what happens.
Now I just have to try to get Microsoft Office 2011 to install...argh!

  • Logic Pro 9 will not start in Mountain Lion

I have gotten so much great info here, that I thought this would be the best place to ask my question. I am using a Mac Pro 3, 1 (early 2008). I bought the machine running Leopard, upgraded to Snow Leopard, lion, and Mountain lion with no problems. I have a valid license for logic studio eight and nine. Logic ran without problems… Until I upgraded to Mavericks. After upgrading, my computer started acting terribly. It was much slower, and I would get these terrible freezes where the screen would go kind of crazy flashing colors and stop working completely.
After thinking it was my graphics card, and not wanting to spend $1 million on a new video card, I decided to try downgrading back to Mountain lion.
First, I cleaned off the system drive, and installed mountain lion fresh from a USB drive. The crashing went away and the computer ran much faster and smoother.
However, after reinstalling logic, I am no longer able to start it. As soon as I click on the icon either through Finder or a dock menu, it crashes almost immediately. It has never gotten to or through the part where it scans the plug-ins or anything. I tried to understand the report it generates, and understand the things that it is trying to tell me, but cannot make any sense out of what it is actually saying happened. I have updated the app as well. I am currently at 9.1.8.
I don't know why this is happening, and don't know what the best next step should be. I already have everything moved out of the way if I need to do another fresh install. I was thinking to try a fresh install on a clean drive of Mavericks, and see if anything changes. Also, when I would try to change logic to start in 64-bit mode, there would be no option in the "get info" window to select or deselect 32-bit mode. It simply wasn't there.
I can post specs/logs/error reports of course, but don't even know where to start. Does anybody have any experience with this? Does anybody have a suggestion for where to start? Do I need to get Logic X? (Logic was running fine in Mountain Lion before) I have scoured the Internet trying to find someone with similar issues, but haven't found anything that works. All I have really tried is reinstalling both the OS and the app. Everything else works great in Mountain lion. I still have my Snow Leopard disks if you think going all the way back there would be the best option. My OS is running in 64-bit mode, but when logic does try to start, it says 32-bit mode in the little start up window.
I'm totally comfortable with Terminal, Console, etc, so can provide any info if anybody thinks they may be able to direct me towards a solution.
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help or advice.

    kcstudio
Must be my chipset then, although another Mainstage board told me otherwise. (that it was the OS)
When I upgraded my Duo2Core MBPro to Mavericks, I too lost Logic 9.
I'm pretty much done with Logic 9, and pretty happy about the new Logic X, and happy that it works on ALL of my machines.

  • Web Server will not start

Does anyone know what this means, and how to fix it?
Syntax error on line 37 of /etc/httpd/sites/000110.12.21.20_80lists.donherring.info.conf:
    Redirect to non-URL
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started

It would be more helpful if you included line 37 of the specified file.
Since it's telling you line 37, and it also says 'Redirect to non-URL' I'm guessing that line includes a redirect statement that isn't valid.

  • Turning on Web Sharing does not work and fails to load apache web server

Sort of answering my own question here but hope it will be useful to other people and save them some time.
After receiving my shiny new imac with os x lion pre-installed, I was a little dismayed and confused when I went to System Preferences -> Internet and Wireless -> Sharing and attempted to check the Web Sharing. TO FIX THIS ISSUE:
It appears /usr/lib/libpq.5.dylib does not exist but /usr/lib/libpq.5.3.dylib does.
Fix by creating a symbolic link from /usr/lib/libpq.5.3.dylib to /usr/lib/libpq.5.dylib
    =
    sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libpq.5.3.dylib /usr/lib/libpq.5.dylib
Going back to System Preferences -> Internet and Wireless -> Sharing clicking Web Sharing a couple of times turns Web Sharing on successfully!
Going to http://localhost/ displays the "It Works!" page.
HTH people as it took me a while to find the correct solution online from:
    http://www.azattis.com/2011/07/os-x-lion-postgresql-84-install-problem.html

    Hi there,
You seemed to have had a similar problem to what I now have and so wondered if you might be able to help me :-)
I have posted this as a new post as well but if anyone has five mins could they take a look - I would be very grateful. Here you go:
I am new to all this so I have probably made some simple errors and I hope someone can help me. I will retell what I have done as I haven't a clue what part of what I have done has mucked things up.
I am really stuck. Web sharing will not start on my iMac running Lion OS X. It did work fine and then I wanted to activate PHP so my test website contact form would work (and send the data on the form throught to my email address.
Before I did anything I turned on websharing and could view my website from another computer using: http://192.168.1.4/~stewartfergusson/
I think followed the instructions on this link to activate PHP -http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/php_leopard.php
I then did a few things in terminal and will paste below what I did:
Last login: Sun Jan  1 09:01:52 on console
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:~ stewartfergusson$ cd/private/etc
-bash: cd/private/etc: No such file or directory
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:~ stewartfergusson$ cd
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:~ stewartfergusson$ cd prvate
-bash: cd: prvate: No such file or directory
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:~ stewartfergusson$ cd private
-bash: cd: private: No such file or directory
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:~ stewartfergusson$ cd /private/etc
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:etc stewartfergusson$ sudo cp php.ini.default php.ini

    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:etc stewartfergusson$ sudo In -s /usr/lib/libpq.5.3.dylib /usr/lib/libpq.5.dylib
    Password:
    sudo: In: command not found
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:etc stewartfergusson$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libpq.5.3.dylib /usr/lib/libpq.5.dylib
    ln: /usr/lib/libpq.5.dylib: File exists
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:etc stewartfergusson$ sudo apachectl -t
    Password:
Syntax error on line 1 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
Invalid command '1', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
    Stewart-Fergussons-iMac:etc stewartfergusson$ sudo apachectl configtest
    Password:
Syntax error on line 1 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
Invalid command '1', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
