Webcam disappeared

Hello everyone
I got this problem with my webcam, that it is not working - I found out about it when was trying to use Skype. Camera is not even listed in device manager, and there are no problems there eg with USB, no yellow exclamation marks. Cant find any solution by reading forum, besauce this problem which is common, is somehow conncted to Windows XP, but I have Windows Vista. When i press Fn + Esc it says, that no camera is installed. I cant do any restore, cause I got this computer used, and there was no restore disk or recovery.
I will be glad if someone even suggest something, because I run out of ideas.
I got Lenovo s10e, 4068, Windows Vista 32.
Sorry for my english

as i know, s10e systems are not designed for vista.
if you still want to use, try this driver:

( make sure you installed power management first, press fn + esc to activate the camera )

  • Skype makes webcam disappear from lsusb

    Hi all,
I have a logitech QuickCam Deluxe for Notebooks, and up until my last pacman -Syu last weekend, it worked with skype as long as I started skype using
    export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && skype
It has always worked with xawtv -c /dev/video0, and it continues to do so.
Now it doesn't work with Skype no matter how I start skype (normally or after exporting XLIB...) I get "No video devices found" on the video page in Options.  AND, after I quit skype xawtv doesn't work any more, and the device has disappeared from lsusb.  It has to be unplugged and plugged into a _different_ usb port to show up again.

Look at the output of dmesg and see if the device encountered a bus disconnect.  If it did, there may be a reason logged there as well.  Also, if there was a bus disconnect, check before it in the dmesg output to see what may have preceded the disconnect.  Also, check your logs in /var/log for clues.

  • Satellite P50-a-144 and Windows 8.1 - Webcam lost driver

    Hello
I bought a Satellite P50-A-144 and now after Windows and Toshiba updates the webcam doesn't work.
In the device management webcam disappeared and I have an advice with a message: composite device USB.
I don't find webcam drivers on Toshiba site. Could you help me with a link to the usefull drivers?
    Thank you!

    Hi Adri
In the past Toshiba has offered webcam drives for Vista or Win7 but on Win8 machines there is no Toshiba driver anymore. Notebook uses Microsoft drivers. This is the reason why you cannot find webcam driver on Toshiba download page.
Be careful with updates installation. In my opinion you should deactivate automatic update option and before you start updates download and installation check up which drivers are offered. Install important updates but be careful with stuff listed as optional updates. Drivers listed there should be installed from Toshiba download page.
To be honest I don't know what went wrong with your machine but try, if possible, to roll back OS to earlier time before you have installed these updates to see if webcam works again.
Out of curiosity: have you created recovery media following instructions in users manuals document?

  • Satellite R630-14J - after Skype update web cam has disappeared

Update to Skype 6.6. the Webcam disappeared. not visible in device Manager. multiple Downloads of web cam Drivers don't execute. checked bios. Rebooted machine multiple times.
What to do to install web cam Software again?

    Hi
To be honest I cannot understand why webcam device disappears from device manager list after skype update.
I mean even if there would be a software problem (compatibility issues), the webcam should be listed in device manager even as an unknown device.
However, by default, certain devices are not shown in the list. To include hidden devices in Device Manager display, click View and select Show Hidden Devices.
However, I assume you are using Win 7 system.
    > multiple downloads of webcam drivers don't execute
On Toshiba EU driver page you can find the webcam software.
Maybe new Skype version damage something in registry. Would recommend uninstalling the Skype firstly. Download and install the repair tool like CCleaner. Clean registry and reboot the notebook. Now try to install the webcam software once again. Reboot the unit and check if you can use the webcam using installed webcam too.

  • I recently installed a bios update and now I can't locate the built-in webcam on my 210-2190 laptop

After installing a recent BIOS update, the search and webcam disappeared from the start  menu. I got the search function fixed, but I can't locate the webcam sofware. How do I turn the software back on?

Firefox 3.6.6 made a change in prefs to use system proxy settings.
Check your proxy / network setting in Windows and change it to No Proxy, if you don't use a proxy.

  • Webcam on Envy 14 Beats only detects when the display is at a certain angle

HP Envy 14t-1100 CTO beats edition
    Windows 7 64
"No webcam detected" using HP MediaSmart Webcam, webcam not showing under imaging devices in device manager
I've had my Envy 14 Beats for about 9 months, when I got it the webcam worked just fine.  A few months ago I started noticing that when I tilted the display forwad or backward I would hear the alert noise for when a usb device is unplugged, at the time I didn't think much of it.
Just recently I went to use my webcam with the MediaSmart app and got the error message "No WebCam detected, try plugging in your webcam...  yada yada."  So I went to the device manager to see if there was a driver issue, to my surprise there was no "Imaging device" category.  I scanned for new hardware, nothing turned up.  While re-adjusting my sitting position on the couch I tilted the display screen slightly forward, and to my surprise the device manager list refreshed and suddenly the "Imaging Device" category was there with the webcam listed.  I let go of the display (I was applying a small amount of pressure tilting it forward) and the usb disconnect noise beeped and the webcam disappeared from the device manager...
After a little more pushing and prodding I was able to reproduce the effect.  If I have the display at a slightly larger then 90 degree angle (100 degrees-ish) and then put a little pressure on the display tilting towards me (going from ~100 degrees to ~97) the webcam will show up in the device manager and works like there's nothing wrong.  If I let go of the display and let it sit open unassisted I get the disconnect system noise and the webcam and imaging device categor disappear from the device manager.  I'm guessing there's a loose connection in the wiring that connects the display screen to the main body of the laptop.
My question, then, is what can I do about it?  Obviously me holding the display in order to use my webcam doesn't fly, but am I going to have to send in my laptop for repair?  I bought the laptop in early december of 2010 so it's still under warrenty.  If I do have to send it in, will they wipe my hdd?
Any ideas or suggestions would be very appreciated, I know this is a wierd one, but that's just my luck I suppose.
    Thanks!
    -Jake

I have the exact same problem. And I went through it twice. The first time I had this problem, I tried to work around by tilting the display to a certain angle, but eventually the webcam stopped getting recognized and after talking to the customer care and trying system restore and even factory reset, I had to send the laptop for warranty repair. This time I noticed the problem while using Skype or Google video chat. Whenever my video is on i.e. the webcam is working, my microphone picks up a loud noise which goes away when I switch off the video. I got the same effect in HP MediaSmart webcam program too. After a couple of month like this my webcam eventually has stopped getting recognized again.
Calling customer care would only result in suggestions of system restore/ factory reset when I know that the problem is in hardware. I believe the webcam connection is very weak to handle the display tilting. I have searched the web and have fond many similar problem reported by users.
I paid a premium for this laptop a year ago and I am surprised to find the same problem getting reported even now! Hope HP works on remedying this shoddy piece of design!

  • Deployed Marine... Why doesn't my pavilion dv6 6135 dv recognize my integrated camera?

I have tried Device Manager look for hardware with no luck.  I am deployed in Afghanistan and would like to be able to video chat with my family.

Webcams are very fragile and go out fairly frequently. I had mine go out recently on an HP laptop I own and had to send it in for service since I did not want to void the warranty but from where you are I have to think that is less of a concern. The cam is a very small part and not too expensive...I see them on ebay for under $10. Do you have somebody there who could do the replacement or do you think you can do it? That would be the easiest and cheapest way to fix it. I would be happy to buy the cam for you and send it to a military address and I can also provide installation instructions. It is certainly no harder than field stripping your weapon.  I do think you should exhaust tech support and they can actually remote into your laptop and check and see if maybe there is a less drastic option but in my experience if the webcam disappears from device manager the webcam circuit board is dead.
    Thanks for your service.

  • RGB modes disappeared for webcam

A few months ago I installed JMF in order to use it to capture images from my webcam (Logitch Quickcam Express). JMstudio showed that my webcam supported 10 modes, among which a few RGB modes. I used the RGB modes in my application.
Now I return to my project and suddenly the RGB modes are no longer there. And the YUV modes don't seem to work: I get black screens with some grey lines in the top of the image. This happens both in my application as in JMStudio.
On another computer it still works fine, so it must be something that has changed with the software configuration of my system. Does anyone have a clue what I might to to get the RGB modes back?
    Thanks,
    Frans.

Did you install another JRE ?
If you, you'll need to reinstall JMF to that JRE
A lesser possibility is that the webcam drivers were
    updated ?Hi Owen,
    Thanks for thinking along.
I don't think I installed a newer JRE, but I reinstalled JMF nonetheless and sadly that didn't help.
I also reinstalled the original drivers, also to no effect. Perhaps Windows update smuggled something in I didn't notice?

Searching on the web, most results I found lead to this page, where it is said that the problem is due to badly tuned overcurrent protection, and advocated that unplugging and switching off the computer for a little while gets things back into normal. This does not really work for me; the problem seems to occur more randomly, unfortunately with high probability (my camera is available after less than one boot out of ten).
I tried to ensure that the ehci-hcd module is loaded at boot with the ignore-oc option (with a file in /etc/module-load.d/), to no avail.
I also wrote a script which alternatively removes and reloads the ehci-pci driver until my device is found in lsusb. It is sometimes helpful, but usually not. And even when my device is found that way, it can only be used for a while before disappearing again.
Anyway, such a hack is unacceptable... So, my questions are:
is it indeed related to overcurrent protection ?
is there anything else I can try ?
should I file somewhere an other of the numerous bug reports about "unable to enumerate USB device" already existing ?
If of any importance, I am running linux 3.15.7, because at the time I installed my system, I couldn't get the hybrid graphic card Intel/AMD working under 3.16.

    Thanks for advance!!

    Hi @LynnFlores ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. Thank you so much for all the steps you have taken to resolve. Very helpful. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-b164tu Sleekbook and issues with the Touchscreen after an update with Windows 8.1. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot this Touchscreen with Windows 8.1.
Please start  at the top and work your way down. As they do seem silly but we need to know if something does not finish correctly.
Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.
Listed on the page shows you about a Touchscreen driver that is available. If you go into the Device manager and look under Human Interface Devices. Do you see the driver listed there?
If no, do you see something listed under other devices?
If touch functionality still does not appear to be working correctly, follow the steps listed in the document to calibrate the screen.
    I hope something here helps.
    Thanks.

  • Laptop DVD Drive Disappears in Vista

PROBLEM: As soon as you put a CD in the drive, the drive letter disappears.  The drive also disappears from the device manager
MODEL: HP laptop with Nvidia chipset (dv6748us)
Have Vista 32bit with SP2 and all other updates installed. Installed latest BIOS and chipset drivers from HP’s site. Laptop has an IDE drive interface. I tried a CDROM and it works, but tried multiple DVDRW and DVDROM drives and none work.USB DVD drive works. No filter stuff in the registry. Putting it to sleep does not bring it back. Scanning for hardware changes in the device manager does not find it again. Only comes back after reboot.
No option to change IDE/AHCI setting in the BIOS.
I did a factory restore and it still does the same thing.
I tried doing a clean install of Vista from a DVD, but as soon as Vista setup appears it says something like "A driver for the DVD/CD drive is missing" Please inset a disc with the correct drivers.  I tried downloading NVidia chipset/RAID/AHCI drivers from Nvidia's site and from HP and loading them, but to no avail.
Any other suggestions besides just using a USB drive from now on?

Same exact problem here but also note that neither the webcam nor the DVDROM is found in the Device Manager.  Also BOIs wont allow changes to info.  Recently updated to F.32 with the same problem.
THinking about trying some old BIOS to see if they make a difference.  Also noted that my Pavilion DV9925nr shows as DV9700 in the BIOS so is the 9925 a sub version of the 9700?

  • How to get the webcam to work?

    Hi,
As I don't have an instruction book for this computer, can anyone tell me how to get the webcam to work please?
There is supposed to be something that pops up from the side of the screen, but I've left the mouse sit there for ages on all sides and nothing. Please assist me.
    Kit_e

I refer you back to my original question.
There used to be a bar at the side that popped up when you left the mouse sit there for a bit. It no longer pops up ... ie: it's disappeared and will not return ... this is what "started" the webcam for use as a webcam.
I have no idea on how to use the webcam from any other place. There is no icon. There is no mention of it in the programs list. There is nothing. There is a webcam sitting there in the laptops lid, but I can't find where to "access it". Like I said there is no icon, nothing in the programs list.
I want to be able to use it. You know, like you use a webcam. On the web, as a camera. No particular website or software that I have in mind.
    Thanks.
