Webcast in Windows Media Player format - Can I save this to my iPod

There are news events that are webcast the next day using RealPlayer and Windows Media Player. They play as nice little videos in my web browser, complete with audio.
Is there a way that these things can be captured and converted to a correct format for the iPod. I tried control-clicking (on Mac, equivalent to right-clicking in Windows) and 'download source' only yielded a 24k html document. So, I guess the first goal would be how to download the video file itself.
Anyone have experience with how to do this? Please let me know how to go about it.

I guess I am finding out that they are streaming and can't be downloaded. When I try to download they just download the link to the video.
Maybe someone with experience in capturing online video can look at it for me and see if they know a way to capture it to my computer so I can convert it.

Windows media Player suddenly can't read some of my MP3, and only with one user account !!!

here is my problem:
I have a lot of MP3 in my W7 personnal computer at home. I read MP3 everyday with WMP and all was working fine, until some days ago. Some of my MP3 can't be read by WMP. I've looked at their properties, but there is nothing wrong, compared to others
MP3 that I can read.
The "unreadable" files are correctly read by VLC. So they are not corrupted.
When I swtich to an other user, the same MP3 are read correctly with WMP. (Both usersd are admins)
My MP3 are présents on two computers at home. When I connect from my second computer with a
\\computername\c$, I can read these files. So the files are definitivly OK. But when I connect from my first computer to the second one, I can't read the MPS that have the same name! it's absolutely strange!
I've tried to uninstall WMP, to delete all files related to WMP in my Appdata folder, I have even tried the FixIt from Microsoft, but any of these steps were helpful.
I've copied the "unreadable" files from the Music folder to my desktop, allways the same issue.
I've disabled my Antivirus, but without any results. I've tried the system restore, idem.
My computer is running W7 32 bits, SP1, all updates installed regularly.
Please help me, I want to understand what has happened!!! :)

the error message is inside a popup: (French trnaslation) "Windows media Player encountered an error and will close." I have the choice beetween "CLOSE" and "HELP ON THE WEB".
Of course the "help" is totally useless....
I don't see any troublshooter related to "media player". The only troubleshooter where I can choose Media player is for the "compatibility mode", so it's not helpful. On the "audio and devices" troubleshooter I see "read
a DVD with Windows Media Player", but that's not my case.
I've already done the last step. I copy the MP3 from my second computer to the "problematic" one, and I can't read my file. But, on the second computer, i can read this MP3 so the issue is ONLY when I try to read this file with my Windows session.
(in the same computer, with the administrator session, I can read all the files).
To put it in a nutshell:
on computer A logged as CEDRIC i can not read the mp3 called SUPERSONG (it's an example lol)
on computer A logged as administrator, I can read the SUPERSONG
on computer B logged as CEDRIC (other local account but same name) I can read the SUPERSONG mp3 that is present in the music Library (that is not the same file, but it's a file with the same name, and of crouse this is the same song). (all my MP3 are copied
from computer A to computer B in case of failure on one of the computers)
on computer A logged as CEDRIC, if I do a
\\computerB\c$\...\SUPERSONG I can not read it.
I know this is complicated to explain, but if I ask to the Microsoft community that is because I don't know what to do ;) ;) ;)

Play Vodcast in Windows Media Player format on Apple TV

I would like to view a video podcast (can only play on RealPlayer or Windows Media Player) on my Apple TV and iMac. How can I make this work?

Yeah, try Flip4Mac. If you want, post a link to the vodcast and we can see if it plays thru F4M, but it probably will. F4M is the way to view WMV content on a Mac now....WM Player is no longer supported by Microsoft for Mac's.

How to play .wma and other Windows Media Player-format files/videos on Mac?

I will be asking stupid questions as I'm a newbie to Mac, so please bear with me. There are some video format that QuickTime player doesn't play e.g. .wma files. I tried a couple of times to download Windows Media Player for Mac but it doesn't install on my Mac! Do I require a software similar to Zipfile or does Mac has it all build in?
PS - What is the coequal of "delete" button here in Mac (keyboard)?

Download and install Flip4Mac - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - to play Windows Media files via Quicktime. Also get Perian to provide additional codecs for other video formats.
The Delete key is on the keyboard next to the "=" key.

Windows Media Player 9 can't open

I have just downloaded Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X from the Media Player website. The download appears to be succesful, however it is on my desktop as a .bin file. When I double click on it, it won't open. How do I go about installing this?

You might want to use Flip4Macinstead.
If you are downloading Windows Media Player you will also need to download Stuffit Expander as Microsoft have used Stuffit to compress the installation file and Tiger now no longer comes with Stuffit.
Once you have expanded the .sit file you can then run the Windows Media Player installer.

Windows Media Player Extension "Add-on for this website failed to run" except for Administrator

This is on a Windows server 2008 r2. I am trying to allow users to watch help videos at a vendor site. If I remote desktop using the Administrator, I can play the videos and if I check the "manage add-ons", I see Windows Media Player as an extension.
If I remote desktop on as a "normal user" and try to view the same video, I get the error message "An add-on for this website failed to run" and if I check the "manage add-ons", Windows Media Player extension is not there. That
makes sense, since if it is not there, it won't run.
Why isn't Windows Media Player extension showing up in IE 10 on the server for anyone other than Admin? How could I make this work? If I am somehow preventing this from taking place, where would I go on the server to change that?

Have you try adding this video website into trusted sites zone or compatibility view list?
Generally, improper security settings may casue failure to run some add-ons. So, please attempt to decrease security level for Internet Zone to check if this issue still occurs.
How do you think your issue is related to Windows Media Player extension? Based on my knowledge, Flash player plug-in can lead to the problem. Please reinstall your flash player for the current user.
Also, Please check in event log for more clues.

Convert Windows Media Player to something that will work on the IPOD

I just bought my I-Pod today, and I don't know what type of video will play on it. I was trying to upload some window media player files, but no luck. How do I get my Windows Media Player files to work on my I-Pod. Oh, yes, my computer is a Mac. I'm on OS X 3-9.

Hi All, Thanks so much for responding to my question...not a powerpoint -- so forget that. I have tried all of your suggestions. First, the h264 route: creates a file that is something on the order of 3X the size of the .mov (which was too big to begin with). Took forever -- became such a size that I couldn't get it onto a flash drive (11gb became 30+gb).
Now, if necessary, I'll take my machine to theirs and make a transfer via ethernet -- but that doesn't account for backup copies....
Second, I made an MPEG2 version and stored it on DVDs. They would not play on the PC either. This is the way I have delivered to non-broadcast clients for years and has always worked. I use the DVD MPEG2 Best Quality 90 minutes and AAC audio settings.
I looked at the flip4mac site and of course, the version I need is the most expensive. There must be some alternative to spending $180 to convert these files.

Uploading a video in Windows Media Player format HELP

I just used the Insert:Media:Plugin to upload a video in .wav format and when I look at it on the web, it just says "ng PL" and nowhere does it play. What am I doing wrong? I did 'put' it onto the server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

First, the wav format is an audio format not a Windows media format. Thus the computer can decide what to do with it. Either iTunes or WMP or any other media player could pick up the file.
Second, wav files are typically uncompressed. Thus you are making your users download a file that is larger than they need to be download if it were to be encoded as MP3 or AAC, both of which are more optimized for web streaming and/or distribution.
Then what you need to look at is a Flash player or if HTML5 is an option, the audio tag, to embed the audio file onto your website.

My Firefox opens in a media player how can i fix this?

Sounds that that installer has grabbed a lot of file extensions and made them open in a media player.
You can try to uninstall this codec pack to see if that reverts those associations to their previous action.
Otherwise you can try to right-click a file with a changed association and use open with to change the current association to the previous program that handled it.

Windows Media Player - Files Can't Open or Crashes trying

Firstly, can I just say I hate this support system, I have idea where I'm going or what I'm doing and never find anything useful. Really frustrating:/ I just hope this is the right place to post this cry for help... apologies if not
Right back to the issue at hand.
I'm running Win 8.1, on IdeaPad U330 Touch i7
A LOT of my video files (mainly from an iPod or iPhone) are causing problems.
At first it was simply no thumbnail would load and if I tried to open them, I would instantly get an error pop-up from WMP saying something like 'an error occurred, WMP is now closing, if any solutions are found you will be told, and sends off an error report' (I think?).
Now the problem has escalated to the point where if I go anywhere near the vast majority of my video files, whether in WMP or File Explorer, e.g. trying to open, look at properties, or sometimes even just selecting the file, my computer will freeze up for a few moments (my audio from iTunes will still play though) and then the screen will refresh and File Explorer will have completely crashed and closed any of its open windows.
I managed to Ctrl+Alt+Delete it once (the only thing you can rely on working) and when I opened Task Manager, FE will have already crashed and the crash report will be sending, and my disk usage would be 98/99%. Also all my files are stored in the OneDrive folder, available offline.
Don't know if that helps but I hope it does.

Can you try running a Storage test. See if it will return an Error or a failure on the Drive

JMStudio cannot play a avi file properly but the Window Media Player can

I downloaded and installed the JMF 2.1.1e on Window XP. I tried to use JMStudio to view a AVI file, the top half is black and the bottom half seems ok. The same file can be viewed properly by Window Media Player.
Can someone tell me what I can do to make it work properly ?

I did some more research, I found out the problem probably is because the file is openDML format. Does the JMF support the openDML/MJPG ? If not, is there any java plugin I can use to work with JMF ?

Safari, Windows Media Player, and Proxy Servers

I'm trying to watch streaming video of comedy central's Daily Show but its not working. I hit play and I get "-19422" in the play bar. I can't find anything about this anywhere online. I used to be able to do play these videos on my old computer but have had no success. It has to be in Windows Media Player format. I have Windows Media Player and have streamed from other sites. The only thing I have found is that the comedy central page requires a proxy to view streamng video. I have contacted my ISP and they say no such proxy is needed and I should be able to view the page. Am I suppose to guess on the proxy server? The comedy central site says it supports safari and apple computers but it doesn't seem like it. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any ieas for solving this problem?
PS- This is what comedy central says.... Also my ISP is Time Warner Cable's RoadRunner

The videos work fine for me with Safari 2.0.2 and OS X 10.4.3. The section of the help file you quoted appears to be referring to a corporate firewall setup rather than a typical home setup - you shouldn't need to change any of the defaults for Windows Media Player.
A Google search for that error code you received mentions Flip4Mac in a couple of places - do you have that installed?
If so, try disabling it to see if that is the cause of your issues.

Windows Media Player on Snow Leopard

I heard about a site called Eurosport TV or Eurosport.com where one can go to watch a live feed of certain events at the Winter Olympics (not delayed feeds that one can access on the NBC Olympics site. Anyway it's not a mission critical thing for me one way or the other, but the site gave me a message saying I was missing the internet plug-in required to view the content. It's in a Windows Media Player format as best I can tell.
What's the current status with Snow Leopard about being able to watch WMP files? Seems like I once installed an app called Flip for Mac on my old iMac G4 on which I was running Tiger. I haven't run across a "need" to access WMP content until now on my new iMac. Does Flip for Mac still work in Snow Leopard? Any problems?

Creative Player Connection problems? Get rid of windows Media Player

I noticed that a lot of people here are having difficulty gettings their computers to recognize the player.
A lot of people describe that when they plug in their players the player will show up as properly installed in the device manager and windows will recognize it, but it won't show up in Creative media source or any other mp3 player management software.
Also the install programs for firmware won't detect your creative player as well.
The trick is to get rid of any and all traces of windows media player .
Delete the windows media player. Delete the windows media player format in Add/Remove programs in your control panel. Make sure the checkbox the says "show updates" is checked as well in your Add/remove programs window, otherwise windows media player might not show up in your list of programs to remove.
Then once you have windows media player totally removed, reinstall windows media player 0.
Then reinstall the latest versions of your Creative software, drivers, firmware, and plug-ins.
It worked for me and it worked for a lot of other of people.
I had a Zen Xtra that I could not add music to, or remove music from, for a couple weeks until I figured it out. I couldn't even install the firmware either until I got rid of Windows Media Player .
Windows Media Player = Useless Creative Mp3 player.
