  • How can I add or change the Network I'D for the TouchPad?

Most devices on a network have names for the device for one reason or another. This helps to distinguish between connected devices and the legitimacy thereof.
So far I have been unable to add a Network ID to this TouchPad.
With the Amazon Kindle Fire had seen the network ID as "My Phone" which I really wanted to change, and fast. Did manage to change it with an Android app called Fing, which allowed me to use a rather unorthodox network identification name.
Would like to find another network utility that can do the same for the HP TouchPad. Any ideas as to a utility, or a more manual method? Fing via the Kindle Fire shows no network ID for my TouchPad.

    Hello Xelkos,
What you're talking about is actually a feature of DHCP. When asking for an IP address, a client can send a hostname to the server so that it can be easily identified in a human-readable way.
By default, this is disabled on the TouchPad. To enable it, you're going to need to edit a text file on the device. There's lots of different ways to do this, so pick your favorite and then follow these insturctions.
    Find /etc/dhclient.conf and open it
Find the line that starts with:
    # send-hostname
Delete the "#" sign in front of the line and change the text inside the quotes. This text should be whatever you want your hostname to be:
    send-hostname "TouchPad"
Once you've done that, save and close the file
Next, turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. You should now see your hostname show up on your Access Point / Router.
NOTE: Remember that in order to make these changes permanent, you must set the file system as read-write:
    mount -o remount,rw /
You must also set it back to read-only when you're done:
    mount -o remount,ro /

  • Is there a fix for the touchpad right click???

It is probably an intern engineering failure but the touchpad on my brand new notebook is complete junk.
I disabled every possible feature, uninstalled all the HP bloatware and STILL I have to click a gazzilion times in the far right corner of the touchpad to achieve a valid right-click.
I don't know how an engineering crew could fail this bad, but they completely phucked up on this one.

  • Retrofit multitouch (for the touchpad) on T400?

    Hi everybody,
in different forums on the internet I read that the synaptics touchpads that are used in "older" Thinkpads like the T400 (not "s") are capable of multitouch and the only reason why no multitouch features like "2-finger-scroll" show up in the settings are due to the firmware of those touchpads.
    My question:
    Can somebody confirm this?
Is there a way to flash the firmware and install a newer to enable the multitouch features?
Does anybody have any experience with that issue?
Is there any other way to to get those features - maybe exchange the touchpad itself for a newer one?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hey there Setstave,
It sounds like you are concerned about a noise the trackpad is making on your MacBook Pro. The only way to know if there is something wrong is for someone to take a look at it. You can use the following page to help setup an appointment for your device at a local store:

  • What driver for the TM2t touchpad?

    Hi,
I have a HP TM2t-1000 running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  I am in the process of doing a clean reinstall of the operating system and software.  I used the bare Win7 install from the MS website, not the HP recovery CDs.
I wondered if there is a prefered driver version for the Synaptics touchpad?  HP driver version 1.00A allows you to turn off the touchpad by tapping the upper left corner of the the touchpad.  The later versions don't have this feature.  The later versions, particularly those from the Synaptics website, add settings to make this a much more usable touchpad.
Any suggestions as to a favorite driver version for the touchpad.
    Thanks,
    BeaverheadRiver

    Hi:
If you find the drivers from the Synaptics website have features that you prefer and they work fine with your PC, then there is no problem for you to use them.
I use the latest synaptics drivers from their site for my notebooks, graphics, audio, and network drivers from the manufacturer's websites where I can.

  • WebOS Doctor questions

Is this a bad idea or should it work?
After I completely back up my Pre, is the following possible?
If I download this version of the webOS Doctor
    //palm.cdnetworks.net/staging/rom/webosdoctorp100ewwsprint.jar
can I simply remove the unwanted IPKs in ...\webosdoctorp100ewwsprint\resources\sprint.tar, then run the webOS Doctor and the Pre will be reloaded without them?

Chung, care to clarify what steps need to be taken to reset the phone?
I ran into this isssue and had to have Sprint reset my entire account
After running WebOS Doctor I tried to activate my phone as usual...no luck.
if you look at the signal meter on the upper right, if it doesn't show any data, you'll probably have the same problem.
to fix this you need to go to the emergency dialer (it won't auto dial).
Delete the 911 from the dialer and put in the ##RTN# code
When you try to reset the RTN it will ask you for your MSL which you need to get from sprint.
Once thats taken care of and you reboot, you'll notice that the signal meter will show EVDO or whatever data you have and it should be able to connect to the network and allow you to restore the phone.
Unfortunately i've heard that most stores don't have people that know this, they'll often just tell you that your phone is dead and needs to be replaced.

I see that you're having an issue fixing the gestures for the touchpad on your notebook. I will link a document here for you which should guide you through a couple of steps on how to change the gesture on the touchpad.
In this document you will need to follow a couple of sections. I circled the sections you need to follow here:

    Dennis,
what has that go to do with Photoshop? If you can't print on an HP 7610 no matter what you may need to print it is a legitimate question. Yes?  I guess you've nothing to offer in terms of a printing solution.
No caps as far as I can see from the full threads.   So no shouting. Each time I asked the question the reply from the monitor was that I didn't put it in the form of a question.  Assuming that the monitor was saying re-word it and send it again. So I did.  Not realizing that each time it was a different post.

  • Is it possible to change the touchpad settings back to an older version after updating to maverick?

    Hello!
I just updated to Maverick (really late I know) and I found that I really dislike the new options for the touchpad.
    My question is the following:
Is is possible to change it back to the old options while keeping the new OS?
Hope you can help me out.
    - Kanib

No.  If you want the prior options, you will have to revert to the prior OSX.
    Ciao.

  • Is there anywhere a technical manual for the NB100 ?

Is there anywhere a technical manual for the NB100 ?
I want to replace my internal harddisk with a bigger one and don´t want to destroy anything so a manual for the best way to open the NB100 would be a good thing :-)
    cola

The upgrade is not that hard. There is no need to completely disassemble the unit. Remove the screws from the underside, then remove the cover at the top of the keyboard (the cover with the on/off switch on). Remove the screws from under the cover and then remove the keyboard, gently unclipping the ribbon. unclip the ribbon for the touchpad and the wireless aerials (x2). At this stage the HDD is accessible on the left side, remove the screws and gently pull the HDD out.
Once the new drive is fitted, reverse the procedure. I had no option but to replace mine, as I was on an overseas trip when the Toshiba HDD failed (the system was saying I had no HDD fitted) and as I had only taken the NB100 with me I had no choice if I wanted a working laptop for the trip, I stripped my external HDD and fitted it into the NB100, I now have a NB100 with a 250 GB HDD and it's perfect.

  • Suggestion for the WebOS system on Touchpad

I really like my HP touchpad. The current email system is good!
However there are still some improvements need to be done.
One of the most important one is that I want the email system can combine people's reply mails as thread and link them all together, just as what Apple iOS does. Now the emails were just sorted by the time it arrives, which is very hard for me to keep track of people's replies to the same orignal email. And by linking them all together I can save a lot of time.
Meanwhile, it will also make people feel more familiar and easier to use the touchpad if you have this function.

    I have another suggestion.
Port firefox or chrome over to WebOS because the WebOS browser doesn't render half the sites I visit correctly.
The only reason I bought the touchpad, like many of your users is to browse the web and the web browsing experience is quite awful.

  • Why Isn't the WEBos Doctor working??

I can't download it. It keeps saying I don't have a "JRE" configuration. What does this mean?
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

JRE stands for "Java Runtime Environment".
I'd head over to java.com and make sure you have the latest version of Java installed.  If using a 64bit system, be sure to download both the 32bit version, and the 64bit versions.
Here's my "How to doctor a touchpad" file for extra help.
How to Doctor an HP TouchPad (reflash the ROM)
On your Touchpad be sure to have:
    USB cable.
The battery is charged to at least 30%.
    Computer:
Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista
Available USB port (not a hub or secondary port).
Java 1.5 or later is installed. If you are not sure about what version of Java you have, or even if Java is installed, go to www.java.com and click the Do I have Java? link to install the latest version of Java.
    210MB of storage space.
    Internet connection.
    Miscellaneous Info:
The update process will take approximately 15 minutes.
During this process, your device will not be available for use.
    Downloading webOS Doctor
Download webOS Doctor on your desktop computer. If you have a webOS profile, get it from http://ws.hpwebos.com/webosdoctor/sorry.htm
If not, check the webOS Internals page: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Webos_Doctor_Versions
Get your TouchPad ready to update
Hold the Power Button for several seconds until a menu appears.
Tap Shut Down to completely power down your device.
    Running webOS Doctor
Double-click the file that was downloaded to run webOS Doctor.
Follow the on screen directions up until you are asked to connect your device.
Select the language you selected on your device, and click Next.
    Confirm your language choice.
Click Accept to accept the terms of use.
Click Next. webOS Doctor checks your system. BE PATIENT! I've seen this part take a few minutes to complete.
After webOS Doctor finishes checking your system, you will be asked to connect your device.
Connecting your device and finishing the webOS Doctor update
Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable. You must connect your device directly to your computer, not through a USB hub or other intermediate device.
Now the tricky part. Hold the Volume Up button on the device and insert the USB cable. After the large USB symbol appears on screen, let go of the Volume Up button. If you see the HP logo instead of the large USB symbol, you may have let go of the Volume Up button prematurely. If this occurred , wait until your device boots up, shut down your device and then repeat step 2.
Windows will find your device and may offer to install two different drivers.
When asked to install drivers of OMAP, select No, not at this time.
When asked to install drivers for Palm Novacom (bootie), select Yes and let the drivers install. This may take a while. Once the drivers have been installed, the Next button will become available in webOS Doctor.
    Click Next.
Do not disconnect your device from the computer during the update process.
When the Reset Complete screen appears, click Done.
Wait a few minutes for your device to reset.
    You're done!
