Website created in Dreamweaver CS4 doesn't look right in CS6

I used to have an old version of Dreamweaver (CS4 I think) and my laptop got taken out by a lightening strike.  I have had to purchase Dreamweaver CS6 and I have loaded up my website (files recovered from hard drive) but the pages don't look right - wrong colours, wrong font, text missing, buttons not displayed properly etc.  any help gratefully received!

Are you sure site files on your hard drive were not damaged by the electrical surge?
Can you GET replacement files from your remote server?

Hm - there is only one PowerMac G4 without a line-in - it's called "PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio)". Take a look at this document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
... it shows the back panels of 3 models, and if yours is the 3rd, that's it.
In this case, you can really only input sounds digitally. The cheapest solution would be to get an iMic USB device (maybe that's what your husband had - look at the pic. Older models were more like silvery), it comes for < 40 $, and you can plug a microphone into it (with the small 1/8" plug). Not super-great sound, but for that mic it should be good enough.

  • Center website VERTICAL in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hello anyone,
I would like to center my website VERTICALLY in Dreamweaver CS4.
I am new at this and don't understand code language, so please use 'design-view' language if possible.
    Thanks!!!

It's not a question of centering vertically in CS4, but doing so reliably in all browsers. Horizontal centering is easy. Vertical centering is not. The following tutorials explain how to do it:
    http://www.jakpsatweb.cz/css/css-vertical-center-solution.html
    http://murphy.cz/victoria-s-vertical-centering/
Warning: they're not written in "design view" language. If you want to achieve a reasonable level of proficiency in web design, you need to learn how to use HTML and CSS.

No, iWeb cannot open or change existing sites no matter what other program created them.

I have manipulated a photo using layers etc and then flattened it and saved it under a new name.  When I use 'Preview' (mac) to view the finished photo it doesn't look right.  It's as the layers have not flattened correctly.  When viewed in Elements 12 it looks OK.  The photo looks incorrect in other software such as photo books.
Looking at the same photo before flattening, what is being shown is only the top layer.
    How do I correct this?

The top layer is indeed the one that is visible, unless there is/are area(s) of translucency on that layer, so that you can visualize a portion of the subjacent layer.
the finished photo it doesn't look right.  It's as the layers have not flattened correctly.
Are your settings targeted to have the printer manage colors, or, to have PSE manage colors?

  • Dreamweaver CS4 having issues after installing PS CS6 Beta

    Hi All,
I'm having issues with Dreamweaver CS4 after installing Photoshop CS6 Beta. I'm getting the follwing erros when trying to open any html file (see attached image).
Once I click OK, the file will open, also now; any copy and paste commands will not work. Anyone else experiencing any problems with other apps after installing this beta version?
Any help and feedback is much appreciated, thanks!

Re :Re: Dreamweaver CS4 having issues after installing PS CS6 Beta
    Just a thought ...
    This may help!
Uninstall the Beta Version of Photoshop CS6 now and then restart your computer and see if that works.
Open the CS4 programs and see if that fixed the problem and it is all working as it should again.
    It is worth a try!
    All the best.

  • Website created in Dreamweaver not showing up after upload to server

    Hi everyone.
I have created a website in Dreamweaver CS4 which views beautifully in test mode, but when I upload it to my server, all I get is an index directory of all the pages!
I've tried renaming my index.html page as index.htm, but nothing changed.
Also, if I try clicking each of the pages separately, they show up without the 35 px padding at top that I specified on all my template pages!  On top of that, not all of the links work.
    Any suggestions???
    B.

    UPDATE
    Hello again.
Okay, I changed all of my html files, uploaded the site and found it was still glitchy.  Long story short: I realized that I also saved many image files using some capitals.  For example: img_Car.jpg.  So now I'm going back and changing everything!
Quick question: I created my pages using sliced Photoshop layers, Save for Web and Devices>Save Html and images.  So basically, all of my Dreamweaver pages have loaded the image files using capitals.
Other than going through each template and tweaking the code, is there a faster way that I could update the Dreamweaver pages to recognize that the relabelled images in my root folder?

  • Old Website Mess in Dreamweaver CS4

I'm redesigning my company's website for them, and when I import their Index html into my Dreamweaver CS4, it's a mess, with everything set to the left in a long, list down the page. When I open it in Dreamweaver 8 on the company computers, however, it opens fine... but I'd much rather not work on such an old version of Dreamweaver. I'd also like to be able to incorporate it easily with my other CS4 apps.
Do I need to upgrade the version, or how can I fix these problems?

File not found: import file://localhost/css/title.css: Operation not permitted
File not found: import file://localhost/css/home.css: Operation not permitted
File not found: import file://localhost/css/Nav4IE7.css: Operation not permitted
localhost refers to your local computer the reference probably should simply read css/title.css to make it document relative where css is the directory and title.css the actual stylesheet.
You have no background-color set (or background-color is set to transparent) but you have set a color. Make sure that cascading of colors keeps the text reasonably legible.
If you set a text color, a BG color may be required. Just a friendly warning in case you use red on red or something similar
font-family: You are encouraged to offer a generic family as a last alternative
Well, again, pretty clear. All font definitions should not only point to specific font names liek "Arial", "Helvetica" or "Times New Roman", but also have the generic serif, sans-serif or symbol definitions attached as a fallback measure. After all, text rendering depends on locally installed typefaces and some of them may not be available.
In (x)HTML+CSS, floated elements need to have a width declared. Only elements with an intrinsic width (html, img, input, textarea, select, or object) are not affected
Again, not all too difficult to understand. Elements that use float alignment can have variablke widths if not constrained. This will prevent other page elements from aligning correctly. A common application are sidebars, which for design reasons you always want to have a fixed width, so it is a good idea to define a width for the DIV that holds it, or otehr wise otehr page elements may go over or under it, obscuring information or rendering links unclickable.

  • Can a website created in Dreamweaver 5.5 be maintained with Contribute 6.5?

I have a client who I have advised to purchase Contribute to maintain the website I created for her. When I go to Adobe I see version 6.5. Would she be able to use this newer version to make her updates even if i created the website and all its editable regions in Adobe Dreamweaver 5.5?

You will get a better answer if you ask this question in Contribute Forum at this link:
    <http://forums.adobe.com/community/contribute?view=discussions>
You need to ask them whether Contribute can interpret HTML and CSS codes correctly and whether editing of these codes is easier to do in Contribute or some other HTML editors.
My personal opinion is that people should use dedicated HTML/CSS editors to edit web pages but my knowledge of contribute is almost ZERO.
I didn't want to touch this question but nobody was answering either so I decided to write something.

  • I want my dreamweaver teacher to see a layout of a page that I am creating in dreamweaver CS4. How

can I send her the index page with all the coding so she can see what I am doing wrong?

Or, simply upload your site and dependant files to a web server space and send your teacher the URL.
Many ISPs give out a free web space as part of your internet account (earthlink, verizon, at&t, etc.)
If your provider doesn't, there are many free & low-cost hosts you can use.

  • Site doesn't look right after being published

I'm a website newbie, and I think I have bitten off more than I can chew. Designed my site, published it, used websafe fonts all the links worked. Look great in Safari on my computer. Then I tried to check it out on the PC with IE... yikes!! So I did some research and saw that's a common IE problem, so tried to view it in Firefox on the PC, looked worse. So I downloaded Safari for the PC... same problem, it looked terrible- text boxes were shifted, flash was coming to the front and covering links, you could see the bounding boxes on some of the pics. eeeeekkkk.
here's the URL if anyone wants a good laugh!!

The site looks OK -- actually quite impressive for what appears to be a from-scratch design.
In Opera 10 under Snow Leopard 10.6.1, the design doesn't start to explode until the horizontally scrolling marquee comes across. I would strongly recommend just removing that marquee; it is an extremely outdated element of web design. If you do that, the design shouldn't blow up on you in other browsers.
