Weird Icon thingy

I have put icons on to all of my folders from pictures I have. No problem there, but when I want to put it on my ACTUAL pictures folder, if I choose a small picture, or a large picture, or an icon sized picture, no matter what, the only icon that shows up is a generic ".JPG" indicator. I can't get the picture to show up.
I have tried making another pictures folder to put the icon on and then move all the stuff into it, but it still did the standard .jpg icon. How do I fix this?

I suspect you are not applying the icon correctly. open the image you want to use in Preview and enter command+c. then select Pictures folder, enter command+i, select the little icon in the top left corner of the resulting info popup and paste the icon there.

That's a sprite file. It's downloaded once for a page and then CSS is used to pick a part of that image. The full display of that image is usually caused by a timeout when downloading the CSS file. If you refresh the page, does it display correctly?
Does the page have any custom JavaScript or custom CSS?

  • Weird Icon Appearing Have Boot

    Hey everyone,
I've been having a weird icon appear on my desktop every time I boot up my computer.
    Here's the icon:
    http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa200/realmvenompics/Picture1-5.png
Not sure where it came from or what it means. I've searched online to see if anyone else has had this problem, but haven't seen anything. I'm not sure if it could be some kind of virus?
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!

Thanks for the help everyone. Taken care of.
Apparently I considered doing Boot Camp and made a hard disk for it, but stopped in the middle and decided not to.

  • Weird Icon

I have a weird icon that appears when I make a phone call.  It appears in the upper right corner next to the volume.  It is a rectanular box with stars going diagnoly thru it black in the top section and blue in the bottom.  This does not appear if I am using my bluetooth. I get it both on incoming and outgoing calls.  What is this weird thing???

Hi and welcome to the forums!
That is for the Weird  Application on your phone     (sorry couldn't resist)
I believe that indicator is to tell you that your earpiece on the device is active.  When you switch to speakerphone (alt+$), is disappears and the speakerphone icon appears in the upper left hand corner.
    Hope this info helps.

  • Weird icon on my applications bar

I have this weird icon on my applications bar at the bottom of my computer screen. It sits in the background and I can't highlight it. It looks like the letter M inside a circle or maybe two adjacent arrows pointing up. Underneath the circle is a yellow arrow pointing downward. What does this mean?

Hi Nomvuyo, and Welcome to "Discussions"!
"...my applications bar at the bottom of my computer screen..."
I'm guessing that you mean the Dock.
Are you sure that the icon is in the Dock, and not behind it?
From the Blue Apple menu, select Dock > Turn Hiding On. Or use Command + Option + D keys.
If the icon is now visible, it was behind the Dock, and you can now move it.
If it is really in the Dock, you should be able to eliminate it by navigating to
HD > Users > Your Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.dock.plist : Move this file to the Trash.
    Restart the computer.
You will now have a Default Dock, and will have to put back any extra icons that you may have placed there.
    Good Luck!

  • Weird icon next to battery icon

this weird icon popped up on my phone yesterday and have no idea what it means. it is a lock with a circular arrow around it?

You you have rotation lock enabled. A rotation lock icon will appear in the status bar next to the battery charge icon when rotation lock is enabled. This looks like a circular arrow around a padlock. If so:
    1. Double click the home button to bring up the multitasking bar.
    2. Swipe right until the last set of icons is displayed in the multitasking bar (these will include play/pause and skip buttons for iPod or Pandora).
    3. The furthest left icon looks like a circular arrow - touch this icon to enable or disable rotation lock on the iPhone.

  • Xterm has a weird icon after update

    Hi,
I updated today, and afterwards I now have a terminal window with a weird icon.
First I thought this must be an error, maybe it is a graphics glitch... But I guess it is just an ugly icon.
Is it suppose to be a computer screen with a keyboard? It is kind of annoying to stare at all day since it looks like something a 3 year old would draw.
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/688/weirdicon.png/

There are two changes involved: one was a modification to let xterm hint the window decoration (which appears to be what you're showing).
That's done now via a resource setting which wasn't really used (iconName), and defaults to a small version of the desktop icon.
The other change allows configuring the mini-icon (which isn't the default simply because it looks different...).
    That's done at build-time using --with-icon-name=mini.xterm
As a quick-fix you "should" be able to set iconName (look in /usr/share/pixmaps for some nicer .xpm file)
The change using iconName is noted in the next line of the changelog:
extend iconName resource to search for icon named according to resource value and use that if found. If not found, use compiled-in pixmap. Both set the WM_ICON_NAME property which is used by various window managers, usually for window decoration.

  • Gfx Weird Icons everywhere. What gives?

I opened Iphoto and there are a zillion dumb icon pictures and fuzzy numbers and lame screenshots. A lot of these seem to be in the GFX, about which I know nothing. What are all these weird icons and junk, and how can I get rid of them?
    Thanks
    Tom

We've seen mention of this before. For no reason - apart from the unlikely event that some dragged the HD icon to the iPhoto Window - all the wee icon on your drive are imported to iPhoto.
Solutions: Fast: restore from your bac up.
Slow: Put the in the trash and empty it.

  • Weird icon in 'system preferences'

In 'system preferences' under the tab 'internet & network', I seem to have a button whose icon has been corrupted. It opens the 'sharing' preferences, but has an incomplete weird switch-like icon. What happend and how to fix this?
I have a screenshot, but don't know how (if possible) to upload this to this discussion board...

Quit System Preferences if it is open, and choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Enter ~/Library/Caches/ as the folder's location, throw away the item named com.apple.preferencepanes.cache inside, and then restart System Preferences. That issue occasionally crops up without a known cause.

  • Dark blue background and weird icon placement on jump list (recent files) of apps in task bar

Hi, I recently made a factory reset of W8.1, and now I'm seeing a weird and very annoying dark blue backgound in the list of recent files that appears when you right click an app pinned to the taskbar. Also, the "pin to taskbar" and "close window" icons show sort of out of place and apparently larger than normal    I've tried looking through every possible setting but I can't find anything related to this list in particular. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advanced.

Hello @Adrianrff, I understand that a dark blue background and strange icon placement on the jump list of apps in the task bar of your computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! Since this issue occurred after performing a factory reset, I suggest performing a full system recovery by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8). This should return the jump list and icon sizes back to factory settings.

Regards Thanks for the suggestion, MechPilot. I did a full system recovery but unfortunately it did not work. Apparently the color of the background matches the color chosen in Windows first startup, but I don't remember having chosen white the first time, everything looked fine then. Any other suggestion?

  • Weird icon appearing in my dock

Have posted this in the classic forum but not got an answer so am bringing it here.
Something called"HP Inkjet Engine" has suddenly started appearing in my dock at start up of Classic. It is a printer icon with a round white circle and an "I" on it. I can't find startup items to get rid of it, can someone please remind me?
    Some info:
It is not in systemprefs/accounts/me/startup items.
The only way I get rid of it is to do a force quit of it.
There seems to be something funny going on with Quark. The only time I launch classic is for quark. Today I just tried to launch classic on it's own and once it had launched it automatically started up quark too and tried to open a document I Iast opened a few months ago, and it quite often does this.
So, how can I get rid of this pesky apparition in my dock?
    Thanks!

    Kathykate,
Have you tried looking @ HD/9 System Folder/Startup Items. Not sure this is what is making the HP Injet Engine open upon Classic startup but worth a look if you have not already.
I don't use any OS 9 startup items when Classic opens so I'm not sure this is where they would be but worth a look......
