Wet610n connecting to netgear WDS setup

Hey,
Been trying to get a wet610n to connect to the following setup:
netgear wndr3700 router: the router has bridging and repeating enabled with the mac addresses of the netgear wn802t repeater and the linksys wet610n bridge in its table.
The netgear wn802t will allow wireless client connections just fine, but we cannot get the wet610n to connect.  We could get it to connect to the wndr3700 router with the bridging and routing funciton disabled, but then the wn802t will not connect.
I've come to the conclusion that the linksys will not play well with the netgear devices in the mode that they need to be in for repeating.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

If you set the Netgear Router in bridge mode then,the WET will not work because two bridge can not communicate wirelessly;

  • Multiple ethernet connections on a WDS with AirPort Express?

Going through the AirPort Admin Utility and Airport Setup Assistant, and the various pdf manuals, the only way I can seem to create a WDS is for each device to be a wireless bridge.
Even setting it up initially as a WDS that connects using AirPort (default config from the setup assistant), then changing it to connect via Ethernet completely broke the bridging and caused much mayhem.
I'd prefer to set up the new Express device as a wired bridge, as I have a spare ethernet connection on the same subnet. I presume this would lessen the overhead needed by the WDS in general and would speed up the overall performance slightly.
Does anybody have any clue how to go about this, if it is possible? I bet it's something small and stupid I've overlooked.
Going back about ten pages in this forum didn't seem to cover this subject, so I apologize if I'm bringing up this subject AGAIN. Oh yeah, and all Airport Express devices involved are on firmware v6.3
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Disable the distribution of IP Address on the Express setup.
You don't mention if you are using Airport Express or Extreme for your Main Base. If so then here is the link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107454
If you are using a 3rd party Router as your Main Base then you will need to check out one of these 2 links and remember not all 3rd party routers are capable of WDS setup.

I am trying to connect a NetGear Wifi Range Extender to my existing Wifi. I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and I am also connected to a Vonage Phone Router. Any help would be appreciated?
The Apple update Firmware for my Airport Extreme Base Station does not update for some reason? Help?
Additionally, I have an older version Airport Express that does not update with the newer Airport Utility Version 6.3 and asks me to download 5.6 to update? Is this worth it?
    Thanks

The netgear is not going to work very well.. and not at all unless it is universal wireless extender.. you cannot use WDS method.
If it does support universal wireless then make sure the airport uses a rational SMB compatible wireless name.. not an apple name which is 35 characters long with spaces and illegal characters like apostrophe.
So nice AE name.. AEwifi and actually while you are trying.. fruitlessly to do this.. use AE24ghz and AE5ghz (so different names on the different bands)
Assuming your AE is gen3 or greater.
You should also fix the wireless channel at least for 2.4ghz since the netgear is probably only going to repeat 2.4ghz so use channel 11, as a trial.
And use no wireless security as a test.. if that works.. then use WPA1 & 2.. as often old equipment using WPA2 is not compatible.
If it fails with simple name.. fixed channel and no security. Sorry it is not compatible at all.. it happens.
If your AE is G wireless or earlier model.. really the time has come for replacement.
If your Express is G wireless model it is not supported.. and is too old to bother with expect I guess if you want to run audio to a speaker.
You must use older 5.6 utility to do this.. so do you have a computer running older OS.. up to Mountain Lion it is easy to install with a bit of manipulation.. later is much harder .. or windows computer anywhere or available to you.

  • When connected to NETGEAR WNR1000, I can't remotely access Airport Extreme attached hard drive.

I have a hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme at home and I am staying at a friend's place where I am connecting to the Internet via a NETGEAR WNR1000 router (which is routing a broadband-cable connection from Comcast Xfinity).
When I am connected directly to the cable modem, the Airport Extreme's drives shows up in my Finder but when I'm connected via the NETGEAR router it doesn't show up.
There must be some setting in the NETGEAR router that is blocking access but I've not got clue one what setting I need to adjust or change on the router.
    Could someone please advise me?

I checked the NETGEAR router settings and it was not configured to block any services or sites. I did as you advised and set up Port Mapping/Forwarding from 548 to the IP assigned to my Mac but nothing showed up in the Finder (no Shared Devices etc).
I then connected directly to the cable modem via ethernet and Shared Devices showed up in my Finder window with my Airport Extreme. I connected to one of the drives connected to the AEBSn, then unplugged the ethernet and connected the NETGEAR back to the cable modem and thus my MacBook Pro was connected via WiFi to the NETGEAR router and to the Internet.
Shared Devices disappeared from my Finder window, BUT the HD I had connected to remained connected. It was listed under my MacBook Pro's name (3rd item after the local HD, "Network"). The icon is a blue and white drive with the WiFi logo on it.
I verified that I could access the files on this remotely connected drive and did a Get Info and in the window that popped up it said "Server: afp://MilkBar._afpovertcp._tcp.malckwan.members.mac.com/Untitled%2001".
I tried to use the Connect To (Cmd-K) to connect to another drive attached to the AEBSn (Untitled%2002) using the same formatted address but could not connect.
PS. I did verify that I was mapping Port 548 to the current IP assigned to the MacBook Pro.

  • IPhone4 does not connect to NETGEAR-DaulBand-N, my iMac does?

I thought in the iPhone4 spec it says it does Wifi 802.11 b/g/n
I have tried to even put in NETGEAR-DaulBand-N as the wifi point, and it can not find it, it only sees & connects to NETGEAR-2.4-G & not the "N" which is faster. My iMac can get the NETGEAR-DaulBand-N, but not the iPhone4? Am I missing something?

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

  • Connecting to netgear range extender

I have a netgear wifi router and connected the netgear wn2000 range extender to push the wifi upstairs in my home. My ipad detects the extender and shows it on the list of available networks then prompts me to enter the password to connect. The ipad keypad pops up so i can type in the password but no letters will type in the password field. The keypad is working for all other functions such as email and google etc. Is anyone using this netgear range extender and if yes, how did you connect. Any problems entering the password? Thanks!

You sure can use the netgear extender with your verizon router.... just DONT follow netgear's instructions. After messing around for hours with no luck I tried this and it worked.
    1) turn OFF your laptop's wireless connection
    2) Connect your laptop to the extender's Ethernet port and plug in the extender
    3) after the extender boots it will show two lights
    4) open your browser and it should take you right to the extender's genie
    5) follow all the prompts using your Verizon router's id and password
    6) disconnect the Ethernet connection and turn the laptop's wireless back on
    Good luck

  • Trying to connect through  Netgear

I am trying to connect via Netgear router. My Airport says connected but when I try to connect to internet it won't pull anything. Any suggestions?

I, too tried to connect through Netgear. I got the connection up and running, but the Netgear kept shutting on and off. I finally read the reviews of the new Netgear products and wound up returning it to Fryes. While I was there, I met a Fryes customer- a big corporate IP guy, and he said that a lot of companies are pushing the Netgear line, (they get big incentives) but many companies and individuals that he works with have had nothing but problems on their PCs as well as MACS. He suggested that I switch to the highest end Lynksys, (I used to have an old one). I bought the new Lynksys, installed it in about 15 minutes, and have never had even one problem with it! By the way, he was there to return a Netgear for a client as well! Good Luck, and I hope you solve your problem!

  • 2 AEBSn WDS setup woes/errors

I have an AEBSn and a new gigabit AEBSn, and I cannot get an internet connection through the gigabit remotes LAN cables. I have tried for 6 hours to connect them using WDS just as the manuals say. All the passwords and SSIDs are the same across both units. I have entered the MAC addresses correctly. Originally the remote would not recognize the main AEBSn, but I was able to fix that somehow. No matter what other internet settings I change (everything from DCHP to bridge mode, the remote will absolutely not provide the computer attached via LAN cable an internet connection.
I've googled it, read Apple posts, all the apple support docs and nothing is working. I am obviously missing something. Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Much thanks!

Went through steps you have above. At update, the main router no longer showed up in the airport Utility, and of course, and no luck getting internet connection through the hard wire line on the remote.
    So, I started from scratch.
I ensured Both units have firmware revision 7.2.1.
I swapped base stations so that the new gigabit AEBSn will eventually be th main base station.
I disconnected every cable and turned off every WiFi client.
I hard-reset both units, and confirmed they had returned to factory defaults.
I went through the steps again…
I select the Base station that will be the main base station from the Airport status menu. I open Airport Utility, and only one router shows up - it is the one I want to configure for the main base station. I select that base station and follow the exact configuration steps for the main base station again. Upon update, I get 4 errors, (password, WiFi security, SNMP over WAN, and confi over WAN) which all make sense, because I only did the steps to make the Base station work on WDS. I corrected the errors by entering a base station password, a WPA/WPA2 personal password, deselected allow SNMP over WAN, and deselected allow configuration over Ethernet WAN port. I clicked update. Now AEBS had two errors. Ethernet not connected and internet connection, which makes sense, because it was not hooked up yet. I hook up the internet cord and test the connection. Both WiFi and wired LAN machines work great.
I select the Base station that will be the remote base station from the Airport status menu. I open Airport Utility, and only one router shows up - it is the one I want to configure for the remote base station. I select that base station and follow the exact configuration steps for the remote base station again. Upon update, I get 2 errors, (password, WiFi security) which again make sense, because I only did the steps to make the Base station work on WDS. I corrected the errors by entering the same base station password as the main, and the same WPA/WPA2 personal password as the main. I clicked update and it returns with one error – internet connection, base station does not have a valid IP address.
Per the procedures, I should be up and running with WDS - but alas, I still cannot get the remote stations LAN ports working.
It is my understanding that you need to have the same SSID in order for WDS to work. So I change the remote SSID to match the Main, and ensure that the channel matches the main’s channel and click update.
Finally both base stations show up in the AirPort Utility together. The Main now has only double NAT error, and remote returns no errors.
    +** All great except… **+
    +** My original problem still exists… **+
+** Nothing attached to the LAN ports of the remote base station will work. **+
In the end, the the Main station has WDS enabled, uses 802.11b/g, selected as WDS main, MAC address of remote AEBS, Connect via Ethernet, share public IP address, channel 1 and SSID of “router”. The IP address is 192.168.x.x, and the DHCP is set to 10.0.x.x. The base station itself is assigned an IP address of 10.0.x.x, and the computer attached to it via a CAT5 cable shows an IP address in the range of 10.0.x.x.
The remote base station has WDS enabled, uses 802.11b/g, selected as WDS remote, MAC address of main AEBS, Connect via WDS, bridge mode, channel 1, and SSID of “router”. The base station itself is assigned an IP address of 10.0.x.x, +* BUT *+ the computer attached to the remote base station via a CAT5 cable shows an IP address in the range of 192.168.x.x.
Hopefully this helps us figure this out, and maybe others who are having this problem (though, with my luck, it is probably just me)
    Thanks again.

Would like to print from laptop to printer at home.  Printer is ethernet connected to NetGear Router.
I had been able to print wirelessly from laptop to HP 7310 Officejet all-in-one, but now all I get is "document failed to print" message.  I can get documents to print on this printer using my smart phone, but not the laptop.
I have used "find printer" button on print screen and can see the printer to select.
    Any suggestions?

  • Fiber Connection with Netgear GS752TS

A dark fiber connection with SFPs is no different than a 1 foot long copper patch cable that connects the two switches as if they were in the same room (less than 1 foot apart). Perhaps you are over thinking it. Just configure the ports much like you would if the switches were next to each other.

A local company has started offering Fiber Connections at much better speeds then Time Warner. They threw in Dark Fiber (Secure Connections) between our two offices (2 miles between the two offices). Unfortunately the techs at the company are not used to Netgear (only knows Cisco) and don't know how to get the two offices to connect over Netgear with our new Dark Fiber. They did get us two SFP connectors with Dual Mode Communication and connected the Fiber on both ends. I am a new Network Admin and still trying to figure this out myself. I thought I would be able to set a routing rule....saying if the IP Address destination is at our second location to send the communication over the Fiber Connection instead of the VPN/internet connection....I have been reading through the Software Admin Manual and searching the net but so far I am not...

  • Airport Express setup not allowing shared net connection when on WDS

    Hi,
I have an Airport Extreme setup as WDS Main and an Airport Express setup as WDS Remote. But Doing this I am unable to receive shared net connection from Extreme to Express using Airport Setup Utility. It will only allow networking and not internet.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

Internet connection sharing must be set up on the main base station in your network, which would be the base station that is connected to your cable or DSL modem.
Internet connection sharing must not be enabled on any of the remote base stations in your WDS. So... what I'm saying is do not touch the configuration of your Airport Express.
Once you have enabled internet connection sharing on the main base station and the main base station has rebooted, then pull power for a moment to the Airport Express to force a reconnection to the base station.
If you still have problems, please describe to us how your network is set up in detail. If you have a typical network with a cable/DSL modem connection to an Airport Extreme base station, and that base station and an Airport Express are configured to form a WDS, you have an extremely basic setup that the Airport Utility should have had no trouble configuring for you. It really shouldn't be difficult!
Addendum - after thinking about your problem a bit more, I thought I should probably ask you to explain in more detail exactly what the symptoms are when you state that "But Doing this I am unable to receive shared net connection from Extreme to Express using Airport Setup Utility. It will only allow networking and not internet." Perhaps I'm not understanding the problem. Are you saying that none of the computers connected to your network are able to access the internet - but everything else on your network works just fine?

  • Netgear DG834G setup with Airport Extreme Base

Until yeseterday my home network consisted of an ADLS modem connected by ethernet to an Airport Extreme base, to get additional range I have an additional Airport Extreme Base downstairs ( life before ap express). I also have a USB printer in the 1st base - all was good and life was wonderful.
Then..... the adsl modem/router died. It was recommended that I get the Netgear DG834G as it was easy to setup blah blah blah... Long story short it is set up and I do have internet access wirelessly to part of my house - the range is terrible. I would like to use the two airport base stations I have to get acceptable coverage and also to use my printer via the USB again.
Can anyone please tell me how to make the airport bases talk to the Netgear. BTW ... Base #1 is sitting next to the Netgear box so if it needs to be connected by ethernet it is no problem.
    Thanks much Susan

You can connect your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to the Netgear via Ethernet. Configure the AEBS so that the option to distribute IP addresses is disabled.

  • Ipod connection causing netgear wireless link to fail

Every time I connect my ipod to windows, my wireless link (netgear router) fails, and I have to turn my computer off an on again. Using itunes v7 with 4th generation ipod.

DHCP lease time on the router is 30 minutes.
It appears that the clients, specifically the only wireless laptop on the network, drops the connection and when it reconnects it gets a new lease and IP address.  This happens many times until all IPs are in use.  I don't know why the lap top drops the connection when the signal strength is excellent.
I have seen the MAC address of the Client in some cases but the majority are the WRE.
I've linked to some pictures of the router set up, the DHCP client list, and the basic WRE setup.  There are only 3 wireless devices in my home, 1 laptop, 2 iPhones.  I guess a neighbour could be trying to connect but I do have MAC address filtering turned on so only included MAC Addresses can connect.
I guess I could always update the firmware but I only want to do that if it will fix this issue.  I tried the live chat today but I didn't have access to my home network so there wasn't much that we could do.
