Wf_event.raise : database trigger : ORA-04092 : differs from documented behavior

Product Management :
Calling wf_event.raise from an after insert row trigger produces ORA-04092. This is exactly opposite from the supposed documented behavior.
Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter. Needless to say, raising business events from fundamental database activities like inserting & updating rows is critically important.
Version : 2.6.2 as distributed with 9iAS 9.0.2.0.1 on Win2K
Error message :
ORA-04092: cannot ROLLBACK in a trigger
ORA-06512: at "OWF_MGR.WF_EVENT", line 830
ORA-04092: cannot SET SAVEPOINT in a trigger
ORA-06512: at "OWF_MGR.WF_EVENT", line 451
ORA-06512: at "CASEINT.CG$AIR_FOLDERS", line 7
ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger 'CASEINT.CG$AIR_FOLDERS'
From the Oracle Workflow Guide :
"For environments such as database triggers or distributed
transactions that do not allow savepoints, the Workflow Engine
automatically traps Savepoint not allowed errors and defers
the execution of the activity to the background engine."

The Business Event System and Workflow Engine are two different components, hence the documentation is actually
correct as it refers to the 'Workflow Engine' specifically.
A fix is currently being developed for the problem that you are encountering and will be included in Workflow Standalone
Version 2.6.3 (iAS 9.0.4).
There is also a Bug raised for this issue in Workflow 2.6.2 - Bug 2427354 - if you wish to escalate this then please contact
Oracle Support to raise a TAR against this Bug.
As a workaround in the meantime you could launch a deferred workflow process that raises the required event.

  • When-new-form-Instance trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-04062

    Hi,
    We are facing ORA-04062 (FRM-40735 WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger raised unhandled exception ORA 04062) while trying to run the first form of our Application.
    We are using a PL/SQL LIBRARY(.pll) for forms.
    We are using 10G Application Server,10G DB and Oracle 9i Forms.
    DB Version----10.1.0.4.0
    Application Server--9.0.4.0
    During compilation, we are following the below steps:
    1. Compile the .pll
    2.Compile Forms.
    When we are running these compiled version of forms and pll in Development server where we are compiling it,we are not facing any error.
    But when we are taking these compiled version of forms and pll to the Production Server,we are getting the above error.
    When we are compiling the .pll in Production server, Application runs fine.
    But we should not compile form or pll in Production server.
    Searching in Metalink(Note:73506.1) , we find a solution that remote_dependency_mode if set to signature this problem may be resolved.
    We tried that by chaning ' REMOTE_DEPENDENCIES_MODE=SIGNATURE' in Init.ora file in both Production and Development server.
    But the error still persist.
    I think the problem is regarding .pll.Because for the time being to test the application,I compiled the pll in Production and we didnot get any error while running the Application.
    But whenever we are tring to deploy the compiled version of pll (compiling in Development sever) and to run the application in Production, we are facing the error.
    Also, pll calls one standard database package in SYS.That standard package has VALID status both in Production and in Development.
    We donot have priviledge to change/compile that package.So,we didnot change anything in that package. We didnot change anything in .pll also.
    We are upgrading our forms from 6i to 9i.And now when we are trying to deploy it to Production we are facing ORA-04062 error.
    Can anyone please help ?

    Exactly what procedure or package in SYS are you calling that causes this problem?
    <p>Are both test and production databases at the same version?
    <p>Do you know what procedure or package is named in the error? If not, then you need to improve your on-error trigger processing. I use a PLL_On_Error trigger to capture and improve a number of Oracle messages. It is posted here:
    <p> Re: FRM-40735:Pre_Insert trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-20011
    <p>Note especially the part near the end that deals with FRM-40735. (Not sure, but you may also want to display DBMS_ERROR_TEXT in your situation.)
    <p>If that doesn't help find the actual problem, I would pull out my Re: Zdebug -- Download a Forms debugging message tool, and add messages before every call in the when-new-form-instance process to zero-in on the offending call.
    <p>If it really IS a call to a system process, I would then experiment with creating a server-side package or stored procedure that calls the process, and then call that stored procedure from my form. That way, you effectively insulate your form from system differences.

  • FRM-40735: When-Validate-Item trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-01861

    Dear all, I runned a form designed by Developer 2000 version 4.5 and encountered a puzzling problem. The same program could be runned on one computer but not in another one. The error message is as below: FRM-40735: When-Validate-Item trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-01861. The OS of both computers are windows 2000 professional. The only difference between two computers is the patch files didn't installed on one of them. I don't know if it is the key point. Could you tell me why?
    Thank you!!!

    I sure wish people would post the entire text of the error message. "ORA-01861: literal does not match format string."
    What kind of field are you trying to validate? This message is usually due to a date format error. If you are trying to convert text into a date without using TO_DATE('some text','date-format'), then that is the problem. It sounds like you are, and the database default date format is different between the two systems.

  • FRM-40735 when Button Pressed Trigger Raised Unhandled Exception ORA-03113

    Hi all,
    We are using oracle 9.2.0.4 on SUSE 10.When user try to insert record second time they are getting the error
    FRM-40735 when Button Pressed Trigger Raised Unhandled Exception ORA-03113And we are also getting ORa-0600 [12333]-[253]-[1]-[253]
    Please don't tell me that this is an oracle internal error and i have to contact oracle support.
    Actaually earlier we were using Oracle 9.2.0.6 (64 bit)on sun soalris 8 9(64 bit) and now after migrating the same to Oracle 9.2.0.4 to RHEL4 (32 bit).
    And i have also cross checked on the new server oracle 9.2.0.6 (64 bit) on rhel4 (64 bit).
    please suggest me....

    Please don't tell me that this is an oracle internal error and i have to contact oracle support.WHY? But it's the one and only reason! What do you think, how we can solve internal error? Do we have a special utility to demand from you some logs and by uising that utility analyze your database and solve your problem?

  • FRM-40735: ON-POPULATE-DETAILS trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-06508

    Dear All,
    I checked this forum before i post this thread. But i didn't get any solutions.
    Recently we have migrated our production database from 10gR2 to 11g EE R11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit.
    We are continuing 10gR2 version as our oracle application server after migration.
    Now we are facing a problem - When we open a screen and query the records we are getting an error as
    FRM-40735: On-Populate-Details trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-06508.
    Then the details are not populating.
    We are getting this error indefinitely. In the same screen if we close it and open then its not throwing an error.
    After some times it shows the same error. may be in any form. Due to this we can't even debug the code part.
    Command used to compile all plls
    for %%i IN (*.pll) do frmcmp module=%%i userid=userid/pw@connectstg batch=yes module_type=LIBRARY compile_all=yes window_state=Minimize
    Same way we compiled the forms mmbs. OLBS no change.
    We tried manually compilation of plls too.
    We didn't made any change in the On-Populate-Details. Frequently irregular indefinite
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards
    Balaji M

    The "ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called" error is caused when Forms can't find the program unit being called or the status of the program unit is "Invalid." Have you checked the particular program unit being called to ensure it's status is "Valid?"
    Also, the On-Populate-Details triggers is system generated. You might need to drop and recreate the related Releationship in order to fix the issue.
    Hope this helps,

    I need this to be done on automatic basis so i have chosen trigger.
    is there anyway of automatic other than trigger in this case.

    is there anyway of automatic other than trigger in this case.You can't COMMIT inside a trigger. Oracle issue an auto COMMIT before and after the execution of DDL. So you can't use DDL in trigger. You may get suggestion to use AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION to perform COMMIT within tirgger. But dont do that. Its wrong idea.
    I will suggest you look back into your requirement and see what exactly you want. You could schedule a job that runs on a daily basis that will pick up the object details from your table and drop them accordingly.

  • How can I obtain an specific message raised by a database trigger

    Dear friends,
    if I have a database trigger and I want to show an error message which was raised from a database trigger to a form, I can do it by raising an application error inside database trigger, and by showing DBMS_ERROR_TEXT inside ON-ERROR trigger. This is ok for me.
    But how can I do if I want to show a specific message? Let's say I have a BEFORE INSERT table trigger, and I want to verify whether data was correctly informed (for example, "user name must be entered"). If I raise an application error, I see a very big error message which includes both my personal error message and database message.
    Surely I can do a SUBSTR in this message, but can't I do something easier? Let's say I put all error messages in a variable:
    (Let's suppose it's a BEFORE INSERT trigger code, which is related to my table)
    if :NEW.user_name is null then
    p_error_message := 'User name must be entered.';
    end if;
    if p_error_message is not null then
    raise_application_error (-20000, p_error_message);
    end if;
    ... with this p_error_message being shown to final user, with no need to edit it via PL/SQL instructions like SUBSTR. Is this possible? If not, I'll be quite satisfied with SUBSTR because it fits my needs somehow.
    Best regards,

    raise_application_error will be used for raise errors on form.here i'm providing u the example
    CREATE TRIGGER at AFTER UPDATE OR DELETE OR INSERT ON emp
    for each row
    declare
    v_1 number
    begin
    select empno into v_1 from emp where empno=7369 ;
    exception when no_data_found then
    RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20001,'No data found'||sqlerrm);
    END;
    now when you insert data on emp table through form. if value does not found of selected empno then No data found will be shown on form

    and hcp.ROWID=:new.ROWID);
    END IF;
    -- commit;
    END SDS_CREDIT_HOLD_ROW;
    tried to search for fix in forums checked all columns in select clause and insert they appear to be fine attaching table structure also for reference
    CREATE TABLE SDS_CREDIT_HOLD
    (CUSTOMER_NAME VARCHAR(50),
    CUSTOMER_NUMBER VARCHAR2(30),
    ADDRESS VARCHAR2(240),
    CITY VARCHAR2(60),
    COUNTRY VARCHAR2(60),
    HOLD_BY VARCHAR2(100),
    MAIL_LIST1 VARCHAR2(240),
    RESP_VALUE NUMBER,
    ORG_ID NUMBER,
    MAIL_LIST2 VARCHAR2(240))
    if any hint for fixing this issue it will be highly appreciated
    Thanks

    Problem is here:
    WHEN ( new.CREDIT_HOLD='Y')
    Should be using a colon in front of any new or old columns in your PL/SQL and SQL, thus try this:
    WHEN ( :new.CREDIT_HOLD='Y')
    FYI: when using triggers (unless you specify otherwise in the trigger definition itself):
    old values are referenced via :old.column and new values via :new.column

  • FRM-40735: WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger raised unhandled except ORA-06508

    Dear Colleague,
    I am migrating a Forms application from Forms 9i to Forms 10g. Most of my forms were originally created using the Oracle Designer Forms generator. I am also using the Webutil plugin. I just finished configuring Webutil, tested it and it seems to be working fine.
    I am able to compile all code and generate a Form executable. However at runtime, I get an error as soon as the first line of code in the WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger.
    The error is:
    FRM-40735: WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-06508
    and the beginning of the code is as follows. Using the debugger, I found out that the line:
    CGBS2$.SET_COORD_STYLE( 'P' );
    initiates an error.
    /* CGLY$INIT_CANVASES */
    /* Call procedure to ensure correct canvases are visible */
    BEGIN
    CGBS2$.SET_COORD_STYLE( 'P' );
    CGBS2$.SET_QRY_ON_ENTRY( 'Y' );
    CGBS2$.SET_NAV_FROM_BLOCK( 'PROJ_BLOCK' );
    CGLY$CANVAS_MANAGEMENT;
    END;
    Is the error telling me that this procedure was not found? How can I proceed to find the cause and solution of my problem? Are one of the Oracle Designer Forms Generator libraries missing?
    I would appreciate a tip to help me begin seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
    Thanks and regards,
    Randy

    Randy,
    Glad I could help and you've got your Form running.
    @user9230833
    It is consider "bad form" to usurp another's post. Please create your own Forum post and include a link or links to any relevant posts. As to Randy's situation, he simply compiled the Forms 9i Library module (.pll) with Forms 10g's compiler. This may not be the cause of your error. When you post your own question, please include your Forms version (full version [eg; 10.1.2.0.2] not the release [6i, 9i, 10g, etc]). Also include any sample code that might help us help you! ;-)

  • 40735 WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE-TRIGGER raised unhandled exception ORA-06502

    After migrationg my form from 6i to 10g I am getting the 40735 WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE-TRIGGER raised unhandled exception ORA-06502 err msg. the field is a date field and should be automatically populated with sysdate- 365. but when i open the form to run it is not populated automatically. i have to enter the date manually. the code in the NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger is as follows:
    declare
    record_id RecordGroup;
    error_cd number;
    begin
    -- Set the main window properties
    set_window_property(forms_mdi_window, window_state, maximize);
    -- Menu Security
    set_menu_items;
    select sysdate - 365
    into :start_date
    from dual;
    end;
    I check the property palate for the start_date field and it looks ok. the form is working fine in windows but the above message is comming out while running the form in Unix.
    Any help will be greatly apreciated.

    First thing, try qualifying the start_date with the block name
    declare
    record_id RecordGroup;
    error_cd number;
    begin
    -- Set the main window properties
    set_window_property(forms_mdi_window, window_state, maximize);
    -- Menu Security
    set_menu_items;
    select sysdate - 365
    into :block.start_date
    from dual;
    end;
