What are the best devices to use in my car to listen to music on my 3rd gen iPod Nano?

What are the best devices on the market today to use in my car to listen to music on my 3rd Gen iPod nano?  I currently use the Monster device that plugs into the electrical adapter (former cigarrette lighter!) in the car.  It's a pain in the neck to manually search for unused FM stations on a long trip. I want something that automatically searches for unsused FM stations or, better yet, that will allow me to somehow connect the iPod into the CD player or directly to the radio itself.  I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander.
Any suggestions for quality after-market products from the Forum?

If you have files with the .m4v or .m4a extension its better to change them to .mp4. The M4 extensions will sometimes download in the browser instead of playing.
A usefull free app for file conversion is Miro...

It can quickly convert to all the formats you need to load for html5 playback: MP4, OGG, WebM
If you include these three, fallback to flash will only be required for Internet Explorer V 8 and older. V 9 is supposed to support html5 but I haven't actually seen any proof of this.
Players like flowplayer and JWLongtail are convenient because the control bar icon be customized. This lets you get away from the nasty looking QT control bar.

  • What are the best settings to use for the newest AirPort Extreme (AC wifi) with my optimum online service provider?

I have the current generation of the AirPort Extreme and a handful of devices that utilize the new 5Ghz A/C frequency. My internet speeds were blazing fast when I had first set it up but lately it has been lagging terribly. I was told that changing my dhcp did help, which it did it seems like it might be back to its normal speeds but I just want to know what are the best settings to configure for the airport so that I can get the most out of my service on all my devices? I'm using a CAT 6 cable which does help, I have a guest wifi setup with a wifi password which I understand will slow it down a little. Can anyone just point me in the right direction or just give me a step by step guide on what settings to configure? Should I really consider turning off the guest network?

I am assuming that you are looking to configure your network to provide the highest level of bandwidth possible for your network clients. If that is the case, the following are a few things to consider:
The Internet modem should support Gigabit Ethernet. That is the Ethernet connection between the modem and your 802.11ac AirPort Extreme should be Gigabit Ethernet.
Use CAT-5e or CAT-6 Ethernet cables between all wired connections.
Only expect 802.11ac performance with 802.11ac clients in the same room as the base station.
Eliminate or significantly reduce any forms of Wi-Fi interference on both the 2.4 & 5 GHz bands.
When streaming, especially HD video on your local network, use wired connections between the host and player devices when possible.
Other than the above suggestions there are no "magic" settings that you can make on your AirPort. Note: The Guest network shares the same bandwidth as the "main" network. Unless you have a network goal to provide this type of network, it is best left disabled.

  • How do i transfer DVD files to my Ipod?  What are the best programs to use?

I have an annoying time trying to get DVDs onto the Ipod. I can't help but think why Apple didn't make it easier to do this. Does anyone know how to get DVDS into the Ipod and what are the best conversion programs?

The iTunes/iPod ecology is designed to make it hard to use the iPod for casual copyright theft, but extracting your data is eminently feasible.
You should be able to recover the media with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer. Data in your apps is potentially at risk but you can probably transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup. That should switch the assocation of the device to the new library but I've never needed to test the method so I can't say for sure.

  • What are the best printers to use?

I bought a HP Officejet 4500 but it's not even showing up during the installation. What printer/scanner/faxes are the best for my MacBook Pro 10.6.8?

We currently own a HP Deskjet 3054 and Laserjet CP1525nw, both are great printers. The Laserjet is both AirPrint and ePrint ready, two features I looked for when buying a new Color Laser to replace my last one. ePrint is a very handy feature for me, I can print things without having to be home. Both offer driver support through Apple directly via Software Update, no need to use HP.com sourced drivers. Anecdotally, I print a LOT of meaty PDF documents and the ability to upgrade the internal RAM on the printer was something I also looked for (speeds up print times dramatically). For $10, I was able to upgrade the internal RAM to 384MB from 128MB with a 256MB DIMM. Laserjet RAM is keyed specifically for the Laserjet, you can't use a standard SO-DIMM. However, it's very cheap and can be found quite easily online.
Contrary to most of the above comments, we have not had any issues with either of our HP printers, or any other HP printers we have owned. My last BubbleJet and  also favorite brand is Epson. I donated my Stylus CX7400 after several years of use (mainly college). It was a solid printer as well, I loved printing photos on it. (The Deskjet does a good job). Epson inks look great but (personal opinion) I think the HP inks tend to look more vibrant. My wife has a Brother laser printer at her work that has performed great for the past few years.
The worst printer I have ever owned was my last Color Laser printer made by Samsung, the CLP-315W. It failed outright after three years of light use. The Brother has gotten moderate-to-heavy use (school classroom) for several years now, hasn't skipped a beat. As a printer, Samsung has to be the worst possible brand I've ever owned.
    Hope that helps!

  • What are the best practices to use GLOBAL Variables

    Hi,
Please guide how Global Variables can be declared and how they can be initialized.
Further please guide what are the impacts of Global Variables(if any) on the memory of CLIENT or SERVER, if they are not initialized or freed up after usage.
    Thanks.
    Regards.

My preference is not to use them and to use parameters or package variables. There is not real control on globals so you can end up with an applicatios that has lots of them that are only used once but persist for the user session.I second that. I don't know how often I searched for bugs caused by typos in the names of global variables. Plus the fact that they are only of datatype VARCHAR2. If you are using share_library_data you could also use Package globals in a forms library to share data between called and calling forms. Or you could use a database package...

  • HT202665 What are the best Discs to use with my Apple USB SuperDrive?

    HHi,
i have an Apple USB SuperDrive, would like to know which are the best Blank Discs to use please, I live in the United Kimgdom

I don't use so many disks nowadays but when we do, I really only try to make sure they are a recognised brand (Phillips, Maxwell, TDK etc etc), technology has moved on from having to worry about which you use. I would avoid brands you've never heard of though.

  • What are the best practices for using Lightroom at two locations

    Here is the problem:
Photographer works weekends and vacations at another location with a second (non-portable) computer.  Photographer wishes to keep two separate but identical copies of the entire photo library and LR catalog for safety.  At the end of a period of work at location 1, photographer wants to take all the changed files (some new, some just modified) and update the LR catalog and the photo library at location 2.  This could be done via internet but possibly it is more practical to transport the changes on a "go-between" drive.
Anybody have an opinion on the best ways to do this?  Is there a way to just export (as catalog) the changed files and folders and then import at the other location?  Manually copying the folders of photos that we think have been changed runs the risk of missing some.  Simply copying everything means carrying close to 2TB and this will also take a lot of time before each trip.  Not so practical every weekend.
    Advice and ideas appreciated.

I had just started exploring smart collections (never looked at this before today) as a way of trying to collect changed/new files and metadata when I walked back into my office from my wife's (she's the photographer- i'm just tech support) and saw your reply.  I think this is the direction we are leaning to because it should cut down on the hardware needs.  The other reply that suggested using a third drive would add another layer of protection in that one would always have a recent complete backup on hand in case of sudden hardware failure, but we should be able to keep the risk way down by using a second Drobo 2 at the second location.  Drobo has been reliable and the slowness can be overcome by saving working Photoshop files to the internal drive and only saving the final finished files back to the library on Drobo.
I am concerned about a possible performance drop if we run both the LT catalog and the file library on Drobos...currently run the catalog on the internal drive based on advice I read some time ago.
So I assume that it is possible to import the "go-between" catalog into LR on an internal drive while copying the "negative" files to the Drobo at each location.  Hopefully this process is not painfully slow...but I suppose it depends on the number of files that are being exported and imported each time.
A third method that I have been investigating and would love any comments on from someone who has tried it is syncing the two Drobos via internet possibly using Synchronize Pro-X (first sync done locally!)...this might have the benefit of daily offsite backup in between visits.  One thing that scares me is the possibility that somehow something screws up digitally and data is destroyed on both drives at the same time before one has a chance to discover a problem.  Also how would one verify that the second location Drobo has been properly synced before arriving to discover some problem prevented a successful sync?
Thank you both for replying and helping me think through this problem.

  • What are the best practices for using the enhancement framework?

    Hello enhancement framework experts,
Recently, my company upgraded to SAP NW 7.1 EhP6.  This presents us with the capability to use the enhancement framework.
A couple of senior programmers were asked to deliver a guideline for use of the framework.  They published the following statement:
"SAP does not guarantee the validity of the enhancement points in future releases/versions. As a result, any implemented enhancement points may require significant work during upgrades. So, enhancement points should essentially be used as an alternative to core modifications, which is a rare scenario.".
I am looking for confirmation or contradiction to the statement  "SAP does not guarantee the validity of enhancement points in future releases/versions..." .  Is this a true statement for both implicit and explicit enhancement points?
Is the impact of activated explicit and implicit enhancements much greater to an SAP upgrade than BAdi's and user exits?
Is there any SAP published guidelines/best practices for use of the enhancement framework?
    Thank you,
    Kimberly

  • What are the best settings to use on the Sony Cybershot DSC HX1 for taking portrait type photos?

I have used the portrait setting on the SCN selection but always end up with fuzzy edges on my photos.  Are there manual settings that I can adjust that would correct this problem?  I have done every other techniqe that I can find to "stabilize" the camera and no matter how still I stand, I still end up with fuzzy edges.  Any ideas?

    Hi bethstange,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
May I ask if this fuzziness show up when you're not using the Portrait mode? Portrait mode will give you an image with a blurred background while the subject is sharpened. We don't recommend this mode when taking group shots as the subject in the center of the image will be the only one in focus. For everyday shots, we recommend setting the drive mode to Intelligent Auto. This setting will automatically detect and adjust the shooting settings for you. No need to change the Scene modes for different scenarios.
We recommend using the SCN modes when you intend to shoot a certain type of scenario without changing the type of subject. An example would be setting the camera to shoot Landscapes, this setting will give you a wider depth of field than shooting portraits of people.
More information about the camera is available here.

  • What is the best format to use on an external hard drive so I can both back up my Macbook Pro and also put movies on it from another hard drive (PC)?

I am looking for a solution to whether if it is best to get two hard drives or one that can do two things that I want.
I am looking for a hard drive format that can both back up my 500GB Macbook Pro but I was also wondering if I could also put movies on it from another hard drive that is PC based. Would partitioning the hard drive work for this? I don't know what are the best formats to use.
If this is too hard it might just be easier having a separate 500GB hard drive for back up of my Mac and another bigger hard drive for the movies etc (the files are probably bigger than 4GB). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to make a decision soon!

Microsoft has not released the official exFAT file system specification, and a restrictive license from Microsoft is required in order to make and distribute exFAT implementations. Microsoft also asserts patents on exFAT which make it impossible to re-implement its functionality in a compatible way without violating a large percentage of them.[13] This renders the implementation, distribution, and use of exFAT as a part of free or open-source operating systems or of commercial software, for which the vendors could not obtain a license from Microsoft, not only technically difficult, but legally impossible in countries that recognize United States software patents.
Can't help with that, if one is using a Windows machine then they are subjected to their rules and control.
Limited support outside Windows and Mac OS X operating systems as of 2012, when most consumer electronic devices could only handleFAT12/FAT16/FAT32, rendering exFAT (and flash memory formats using it) impractical as a universal exchange format.
The OP said they plan to store movies on the external drive.
Many movies today are well over 4GB in size, thus exFAT has to be used and formatted on the PC, which the Mac can then read.
Older Windows NT versions up to Windows Vista without Service Pack 1 do not support exFAT.
Irrelevant, Microsoft provides a free download of exFAT for Windows XP, and Vista shouldn't be running on pre SP1 anyway.
Some distributions of Linux have begun to include support for exFAT. It is however, only available as a file system in user space, as it's not supported by the kernel.
Irrelevant, OP is using Windows and OS X, not Linux and if they did Linux can read the files at least and transfer, which is all they care about really.
Windows Vista is unable to use exFAT drives for ReadyBoost. Windows 7 removes this limitation, enabling ReadyBoost caches larger than 4 GiB.[14]
Irrelevant, the OP's is intending to use it as transfer drive between Mac's and Windows for movies.
The standard exFAT implementation only uses a single file allocation table and free space map. FAT file systems instead used alternating tables, as this allowed recovery of the file system if the media was ejected during a write (which occurs frequently in practice with removable media). The optional TexFAT component adds support for additional backup tables and maps, but may not be supported.
Some relevancy, but only exFAT can handle 4GB+ files between Mac's and PC's, so the need outweighs the possible problem.
The OP needs to follow the standard Windows practice of "safely removing hardware" before physically disconnecting the external drive. If a write is occurring, it won't allow disconnecting until the write is finished.
Support for up to 2,796,202 files per subdirectory only.[1][nb 3] Microsoft documents a limit of 65,534 files per sub-directory for their FAT32 implementation, but other operating systems have no special limit for the number of files in a FAT32 directory. FAT32 implementations in other operating systems allow an unlimited number of files up to the number of available clusters (that is, up to 268,304,373 files on volumes without long filenames).[nb 4]
Not a issue, only in extreme cases of a lot of small files. The OP plans to use it for movies which are usually large and take up a lot of space on the drive.
IMMO It looks like you just ran off and copied something to argue your point when all the points are basically irrelevant.
There is only one format that can easily share 4GB sized files between Mac's and PC's without further complications.
It's ALSO possible to install MacDrive on the PC and format the drive on the Mac HFS+, but I didn't recommend that because I know it's a hassle just like third party NTFS writing software is a hassle on Mac's.
If you so anti-Microsoft format, then you must know Paragon has to pay a license fee to Microsoft for using the NTFS format.
At least with exFAT there is no fee to Redmond, at least not yet.

  • What is the best settings to use in the export manager when exporting from Aperture 3.5 to Photoshop cc.  tiff? psd? 16bit? dpi?

What are the best settings to use in the export manager when exporting from Aperture 3.5 to Photoshop cc for editing?
Should I use tiff or psd?
    8bit or 16bit?
    How many dpi?

That will depend on the photometric resolution of your originals. For jpegs it would be a waste of space to convert them to a higher resolution than 8bit, but if your images actually have already more than 8bit, you will want to preserve this quality. Then he 16bit format will help to prevent color clipping.
Both tiff and psd will preserve the lossless workflow. With Photoshop as external editor I would use he psd format for better support of layers and transparency, e.g., when you want to create watermark files.
The dpi will only matter, when you export the file for printing.

  • What are the best export settings to use...

    Operating system: Vista SP1
Camera: Canon HF100 (1900x1080 HD quality 29.97fps) -- uses AVCHD compression which is H.264 I believe.
I'm able to watch my camera video files in Vista nicely. However, I'm having trouble with the watching the results of my edited and exported videos. Assuming I want the same quality and playability as the source video, what settings should I use in the export?
In the export settings window... I select:
    Format: H.264
Preset: HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality
Source files have the extension: .m2ts
...I don't change the other values. Then I export. Now the result is an .mp4 file which does not play in Windows Media Player. It does play in Quicktime or iTunes however it plays jerkily... I would like to be able to play it as smoothly as the original source plays... And I'd like to be able to play it in windows media player just as the source can be played in media player. Media player seems to play the source more smoothly than does iTunes or Quicktime.
So what are the best export settings for me so that I can watch my edited HD video on my computer as easily as the source footage???
I've been able to edit and save the results of the edit using the crappy ImageMixer3 video editor that comes with the camera. The results are perfect and play in windows media fine. The files it exports the edited video as is the same as the soure... the file extension is .m2ts
So the problem is how to get Adobe to export the edited video to an .m2ts file or at least to a file type that plays as nicely in my system?

    See
Exporting to iPods, cell phones, PSPs and other mobile devices in the PPro Help for details.

  • What are the best AirPlay speakers for Apple devices?

What are the best AirPlay speakers for Apple devices? I would like to get some good speakers to be used with my iPod, iPhone and iPad. Ideally, they should be able to play using AirPlay and be quite powerful, but with a good design if possible.
I am particularly interested in the Fidelio range of speakers by Philips.
Thank you for your help in advance.

Best is going to be a matter of opinion.  What environment are the speakers going to be used in? How large is the room? What type of music are you going to play? What features/functions would you like in the speakers? What price range are you looking for?  All of these are going to effect which speakers will best fit your needs.
