What are the chances...

That there'd be a common cell network, and service providers would have to opt into the common good, compete on service, and handset hardware upgrades and switching would be accomplished by sim card or similar replacement?
I can recall being in South America in a few countries over a decade ago, where no one had a land line and had great service; we had similar with land lines back then. Now the user population and usage doesn't scale to the U.S. or compare, as they could easily post towers where it suited them, had no line of sight or other obstructions and no one complained; it was about the handsets and services that distinguished the providers which there were few if I recall.
In light of the now iOS 4 debacle which isn't unique to any new device, yet poignantly sensitive in light of the single current network, would it be so bad if the FCC adopted [as they now appear making noises to do with broadband] the care of the cell network?
I'm currently a VZ user, like the service but if this did come to pass, service providers agreeing to compete - on service, then I think all involved will prosper, and we (the U.S.) and begin to restore or technical creditability and who knows gain better coverage world wide.
Now imagine in preparation for that, the iPhone x.y could pick its network via a sim or other user method...!?

Sorry my view of 'most counties' is myopic and at best and limited to S.A. vs U.S. and I'm "just a user".
It's just that in world of ever required communication access, a seamless cell/broad band network is becoming a requirement. I hope the dawn of such a day won't diminish competition but instead energize the players to truly compete on an better / equal footing.
So I guess the question I was really posing is, would a unified network stymie competition?

  • My ipad mini was stolen and i have activated the find my phone to lock it. how can i get the serial number off my itunes or icloud profile? and what are the chances that the find my iphone app works when someome erases the device?

my ipad mini has been stolen and i have activated the find my iphone to lock. now it is only a wifi device so what are the chances that a person can get hold of it and log onto wifi without the password of my device to unlock. does that not make the app rather less useful as i have to hope that the person is apt enough to log onto the internet but not enough to erase it and start afresh. is it possible to find my device even afte someone has erased it?

"Losing your iPhone feels lousy. Thankfully, iCloud can help you get it back. But if it looks like that’s not going to happen, new Find My iPhone features in iOS 7 make it harder for anyone who’s not you to use or sell your device. Now turning off Find My iPhone or erasing your device requires your Apple ID and password. Find My iPhone can also continue to display a custom message, even after your device is erased. And your Apple ID and password are required before anyone can reactivate it."

  • What are the chances of an N95 Classic Firmware Up...

    Guys,
Do you think Nokia will continue to support the N95 now that the 8gb version is out? I'm stuck with the phone based on contract and I'm hoping that at least we'll get a hot new firmware.
What are the chances that they'll release a significantly updated firmware that possibly will free more memory or add that dynamic memory handling of the new software so this thing can be a reliable Ngage gaming device?

one can be optimistic, and one can be realistic. One can observe the history of Nokia support and draw a conclusion and that would not be an optimistic conclusion. There are plenty of people who have contracts for phones that got a single upgrade if they were lucky. N95 has already had more than that (3?) with the last one dated 5 months ago. The cell phones that get updated are usually not 6 months between updates so every day that passes is like a nail in the coffin. So Nokia has moved on to N95 8GB. Contract has nothing to do with getting Nokia to upgrade firmware however badly it may be needed, contract is about making money for the phone company. The N95 8GB can just as well be called an N95 "i" version, they just didn't name it that. that means N95 "Classic" very likely "left in the dust" as a previous post articulately stated. When I say the I think the chance is zero, it is based on Nokia support history which is woeful

  • What are the chances of this thing actually working?

Hey there, over the next few sentences you'll probably be thinking I'm a hobo or something but whatever. I found an iPhone on the footpath today and it was kinda wet from inside. When I got it home and took it apart to see how much water was inside, there wasn't that much, a bit damp though. My dad dried it off with a blow dryer (Yeah I know, he isn't great with electronics) and cracked the screen right between the middle trying to open it up. I chargered it a little and I could faintly see the Apple logo. The screen went black shortly after and I couldn't do anything. Sometimes I can see something that looks like a USB plug but it was hard to tell. Any of the computers with iTunes in my house don't recognize the phone. The screen might turn into the Matrix's code (you know, all the green numbers lined up?) if you looked at it from real far and had sunglasses on.
I think it's an Iphone 3G, so what are the chances of this thing actually working? Is it completely busted, would it be worth taking it to get repaired, selling it for spare parts or just throwing the thing away?

It doesn't belong to you. Turn it in to the police.

I'd say pretty good if you get the same results shown in the picture below, when entering your Telephone Number into the BT Infinity site. Note the BT site is down for maintenance at the moment.
Or try this checker https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html. And you get a similar result as below.-
"Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 26.6Mbps and upstream line speed of 11.1Mbps."

  • My MacBook Pro can't turn on again and apple said that the hard drive was broken. What are the chances of apple recovering my files on target disk?

Okay basically my MacBook Pro won't turn on. It has a spinning loading sign and a bar that won't complete at the bottom. Rang apple said take it into the apple shop and they will try target disk. What is that exactly and what are the chances my photos and files can be recovered. I would go to the shop but I'm on vacation. Help would be appreciated thanks.

    This defines Target Disk Mode:

Though not guaranteed, the chances are good that the data can be recovered.

  • What are the chances on installing Windows 8 pro on mac?

Hi guys, i just wanna know if what are the chances on installing a windows 8 pro on mac?
I just bought a CD of windows 8 pro. Im planning to use it on my mac because i am currently studying a software which is applicable on windows such as Visual Studio 2008, 2010 or 2012.
I am planning to use bootcamp for windows 8 pro, i dont like to use parallels or vm.
and i heard about bootcamp doesnt support windows 8, is that true?
If it is true, so does it means it is not possible to use windows 8 using bootcamp?
Am i right that bootcamp offers the drivers or something?
Or can i just update the drivers for windows manually, u know the thing which u can found it on control panel on windows.

    Grazzii wrote:
Running Windows 8 on my iMac right now buddy. You don't actually need Bootcamp to do all the heavy work for you - it's just a parition tool. However, you will need Bootcamp tools once Windows is installed to get the most out of windows. Without the Bootcamp tools installed, Windows will run - your mouse and keyboard should also work, but the resolution, graphics, speed.etc will all be a little over the place. I used Bootcamp tools 3.0 as it came with my iMac, not sure if the latest 4.0 works...
Boot Camp 5.1 is the latest version, but no version includes drivers for Windows 8.

  • What are the chances of me recovering my stolen iphone 4s?

My iphone 4S was stolen tonight in San Francisco.  I have a UK phone number and UK SIM card.  My iphone is unlocked.  What are the chances of me recovering my phone?  I've reported it to the police and I've access the find phone app to notify me when found (using my mom's cell phone and my email).

Unfortunately, your chances of recovery are poor, at best. Most thieves know to turn an iPhone off, then force it into recovery mode & restore it. This defeats Find My Phone, making recovery almost impossible. Unless the police catch the thief, & match the IMEI number, doubtful you'll ever see the phone again.

  • What are the chances that an actual timestamp will be added to the Canon XF200 ?

I shoot depositions for a living and a timestamp is required sometimes. I upgraded to the XF200 from the XHA1s. the XHA1s had a timestamp so i assumed the XF200 would as well. I saw inthe manual that the time and date could be displayed so I bought the camera. you have to manually turn off all displays except the date and time. This works as long as you dont have to change your aperture, wb, or other settings.  When you change any of these the display pops up and is also recorded.  I'm just wondering why Canon would get rid of the timestamp.  I asked if they could add it using a firmware update but all they said was that enough people need to ask for it. What is enough?

"What are the odds that my hard drive will be salvageable?"
Very very good, it's all sealed and only a large electrical surge or dropping it while running could do some damage.
Take it and use a SATA to USB adapter you can get online for $12-$40 and hook it right up to the new Mac and use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to transfer files.
OR you can access the drive directly and on a PC with MacDrive installed.
However the Mac itself is likley a goner.

  • What are the chances of more MMA content ?

With Cage Warriors events being available on demand the day after . I was wondering what the chances of having more MMA events were .
Good to see BT Vision supporting a fast rising sport .

    Hi Romero197911
I got an answer from the Vision Content team, and I quote.]
"For MMA, via an Essential Subscription subscribers can see Cage Warriors as part of their subscription pack. It’s also available as pay per view (£1.20).
With an ESPN subscription, available free with the Unlimited Package, the options are far greater. ESPN show Live UFC events  and weekly UFC updates and also its own MMA Live programme on the ESPN channel 34. All of which are also available to ESPN subscribers On Demand in ESPN Player in the Sport and Catch Up section.
ESPN are always looking to enhance their schedules and we regularly pass on information about which type of programming is popular with BT Vision Customers. Any feedback is most welcome and I’ll make sure ESPN knows of the interest in MMA."
Hope this helps answer your question.

  • If you jailbreak your device what are the chances of bricking your idevice

I just need to know what the chances are

    @steve359
Yes. Apple will not support you in anyway if you encounter a problem with the device. Like IIIaass said, it voids the warranty, violates the licence agreement. Also, you could encounter a "re-spring loop" where your deivce continues to restart the SpringBoard. Also, your device will be slower and will not last as long as a device running iOS, and the reason for this is when Apple made the OS, it did not push it to what the device can handle, but when jail broken, you push it to the limit. Also, the battery will drain way faster and you will find yourself at the outlet more often. Also, to answer your question about bricking, it isn't likely unless your running iOS 5.1. There is no untethered jailbreak for it, therefore you have to use a computer everytime you turn the device totally off. When on a tethered jailbreak, if the exploit fails (which it does if you don't enter DFU mode correctly), you have to restore the device using iTunes, and sometimes iTunes cannot restore. So, I strongly suggest you DO NOT jailbreak. Apple has these restriction for a reason. Oh, I will also add that when your iOS device is jail broken, hackers can remotley log in, and control your device. Also, your installing third-party software that hasn't been vetted by Apple, so you don't know if your downloading malicious software that can crash your iPod and worse. So I really, really don't think you should do it, because if somethings goes wrong, don't come here, or to Apple.

  • What are the chances my trade-in phone was stolen by USPS?

I successfully traded-in one iPhone 5s using the pre-paid USPS envelope from VZW, and got my electronic rebate card.
The second trade-in of an iPhone 5s was put in the mail (using another pre-paid envelope from VZW) 2 days later and is no-where to be found in the system.  There doesn't seem to be a way to get a tracking number for the physical package.  I'm out $325
For anyone who touches the mail, its got to be obvious what's in the package, so it wouldn't surprise me if there are thefts.
Anyone else have a missing trade-in issue?

Ah I was not aware of that change.
Normally they sent a Return to Vendor Label (USPS) it had a tear strip to save showing the tracking number.
You hand to post office (get a scan) you hand to postal carrier (They have scanners on their person) they do an acceptance scan. That scan will set you free.
Without a scan there is no proof the device was shipped back, let alone if it was stolen by any postal employee.
I know the US Postal Inspection Service can research the issue if you claim it was stolen by a USPS employee.
They fire the employee and have placed them in jail. It is a Federal Offense to mess with the mails .
However without that tracking label (You could have bought one on your own at a very small cost. Which tracks the package available in any post office or over the internet or as you said in your own mail center.
Hope it works out for you.

    Dual LED? Whatever for? Zenon...
    ======================
    kevineu ,
    yes, it is Dual LED.
As xenon has been proven its weakness to assume much more battery power and to flash lights "much" the makers (specially the multimedia phone makers)are thinkin' of puttin' a Dual LED in high-end multimedia phones.
Xenon does give us much more clearer and brighter image than a single LED flash but when the subject is close it just exceeds the required light it should give, on the other hand, a single LED is proven worse in all conditions except semi-light/night conditions while a Dual LED could give it a more success.
And, now to the fact, as y' know nokia has unleashed the N95 then , even if they think about a new varient of N95 such as Black edition/music edition or N95i their possibility will be stuck to that LED or to give a Dual LED. For Xenon, I think they will apply it to another new model of convergence. As for a new edition of N95 it will be sufficient to meet the battle against the battery against a dual LED if it is possible.
    Thanks.

  • What are the chances of getting flash player to work on my windows 7 starter?

Ive tried everything, gone to site after site reading other peoples coments about the same issue, but no difinitive answer as yet, Please help. I have a inspiron mini laptop,  32bit, windows 7 starter, and have just found out that it wont even let you change the desktop wallpaper, surely it supports flash player, my decision to buy this lap top is looking like a stupid decision. PLEASE HELP, SOMEBODY, ANYBODY  thankyou.

Hi, Well I don't know about the wallpaper:-), but I'm sure that there isn't any computer that wont' support Flash Player!
When you first set up your new computer, you set up the Administrator Account first. You will use that Account for Installing Flash Player. It is the one that gives you Permission to do so.
Next, I need to know if you have Installed any version of Flash Player on your computer?
Do you use any browser other than IE8?
What Anit-Virus program do you have Installed?
Use your IE browser and test at this site and let me know if you can see any animation of the Flash logo and what version of Flash Player does it say is Installed.
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
If you use another browser, test with that also.
    Thanks,

Is there any chance that Aperture will support Sigma RAW file format?

Good question since none of us work for Apple, and are simply a community of volunteers. You might consider posting to Apple's Aperture Feedback location. Just don't get your hopes up that they will respond to you and reveal future product planning.

  • What are the chances that Apple and Adobe can stop bickering and...

...finally provide us with the Flash player that we want for our iPads? Yes I know there are a ton of posts on Flash, but we need more.  Apple needs to start listening to their customers.

Incase you have not noticed Flash is not the only Adobe product.
They have been making css, javascript, html editors for years.
Adobe does not see HTML5 as a threat any more than they saw HTML4 as a threat when they created Dreamweaver and other HTML4 editors and tools.
Do you expect Adobe to just stop making editors for all other languages all of a sudden?
Trust me when I say Apple customers are far more worried about the future of Flash and HTML5 than Adobe is.
When Adobe released Dreamweaver cs5 it was not the death of Flash, nor some sign of dropping flash. Adobe makes great tools for every language and avenue you want to explore.
