  • 5G 30G Ipod won't charge or sync

My Ipod won't charge when connected to my laptop. It does charge when plugged into my car radio transmitter and dock. When I plug it into my laptop fully charged I get a message from windows explorer asking me if I want to scan and clean it to repair any problems. I have done this. It starts to sync with itunes (still fully charged) and then I get an error message saying the disk cannot be read. When I disconnect the Ipod there is almost no charge on the battery. I have restored the Ipod through itunes and reinstalled itunes.
I have replaced the battery and charged it again but I am still having the same problems.
I have synced an ipod shuffle on the same computer with no problems.
Any help would be appreciated! thanks.

come on guys? can anybody help?
I have run the manual diagnostics and the USB cable is recognized. I let the battery completely discharge for 5 days, rebooted it up and its draining power from the usb cable to operate, but there is no software recognition (other than in diagnostics) of the fact that the cable is plugged in. In disk mode it shows charging but does not recognize it is plugged into a computer. In normal mode it does not show charging or syncing. OS X does not acknowlede the ipod exists and windows does not recognize the device (several computers, all recognize other ipods).
I'm sure this must be a software issue but i cannot restore as i cannot get the computer to recognize the ipod! Help

  • Old ipod won't charge

Older ipod won't charge.  30 gig, white, I've shown videos on it, so it's one of the earlier color iPods.  I gave it to my mom 2 years ago and she never used it. I've tried a wall charger and plugged it into my computers, no luck.  I can't get it to turn on at all, so can't reset or restore.
    Thanks for any help!

Checked some identifiers on Apple website, apparently it's a 5th generation.

  • My iPod won't charge - on any power outlet.

My iPod won't charge - it said for a while that the battery was empty (to the point of unusable) when I plugged it in, and left it plugged in for a a couple of days and now it will switch on but the battery is empty. I have tried resetting it (menu and middle button), and I have also tried to drain the battery and charge, but it does not work. there are no apple stores where I am /no genius bar so I can't go in store - and the model is recently refurbished - I swapped it out a few months ago - so shouldn't be facing any problems. Please help!

I have also tried charging it through several computers and numerous
    power outlets but none work.

  • My iPod won't charge and start, t happened when i came home from camp. it puts the apple sign but it just stays there i tried lots of cords and still won't start, whats going on

If you are stuck on the Apple log you may need to restore.
    Before you do, try this
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears
    If that doesn't help, restore:

  • Help please.  My newish Ipod won't charge and won't connect to itunes

    Hello,
I have had a 20 gb ipod for a month or two and just the other day I put it to charge (not for the first time) and it didn't connect. I have a docker and that didn't work either. I tried to connect to itunes on both laptop and home computer and it didn't register the ipod.
I guess there might be a loose connection in the bottom of the ipod? I am still under guarantee but can't make head nor tail of the site. If I call I get charged automatically 37 pounds for on line support (I am not within the 90 days as I bought this ipod on Ebay) Do I just send the whole thing in without really knowing what is wrong with it?
Has anyone had a similar problem? i successfully have connected both to the charger and itunes over the past few weeks though there were a couple of occasions where the ipod didn't get recognised by itunes.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Try these.

Your Windows PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.
iPod shows only an Apple logo and doesn't start up.
When restoring the iPod, it's often useful to put it into disk mode first.

  • Ipod won't charge using power block.

I bought an Ipod power block charger that connects into the wall and will charge the Ipod. when I hook everything up, nothing happens, the Ipod does not charge. I returned the power block thinking it doesn't won't and I exchanged it and got a new one, the same happens with this new one, nothing works. i tried different outlets. The wierd thing about this all is that I have a charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter in the car and the Ipod charges with that. I want to be able to use this power block though, what is going on? The ipod is a 40gb third generation Ipod.

Here's some info you may find useful:
iPods without clickwheels cannot charge over USB.
iPods with clickwheels will charge over both (with the exception of the iPod Video and possibly iPod Photo).

  • Ipod won't charge due to water damage?

Unfortunately, I dropped my Ipod in the sink and as soon as I can, I wiped all the water off and dried it.
    Good news is, It works.
But Its having problems with the speakers and the charging (more importantly, the charging)
I removed any debris inside the charging port but it still won't charge, it does charge IF I push the charging cable really hard into the port but obviously I wouldn't be doing that for a long period of time and it might damage the port (even further)
So what do you guys think?
    Thanks

Make an appointment at the genius bar. It will need to be replaced. And STOP trying to use it. It's a fire hazard now.

  • My ipod won't charge on the ipod hifi

    hello,
hope some-one here can help me
I have a 60gb video ipod and when I dock it on my ipod hifi it doesn't charge. The hifi is plugged into the wall and I have reset my ipod twice after reading that tip here on these forums, but still no luck! anyone have any other ideas that I could try out ? thanks very much if you can,
    cheers,
    ellis

    hi Mitch,
    thanks for replying.
my ipod plays beautifully in the hifi, but it won't charge. I tried your solution but no luck. not sure what is wrong. I just moved to hong kong a week ago. my ipod was bought in the us and the hifi here, but i guess that should make no difference really . the other thing that is wierd is that when i connect my computer wirelessly to the hifi is that it plays but cuts out continuosly for a few seconds then continues to play . the song actually stops so there is no "gap" jst picks up where it left off. this is kind of annoying too and I can't find a fix. if you have anyy ideas on this one too that would be great.
    cheers

  • Help! ipod won't charge or anything

so, i'm not sure as to whether or this goes here, but...
i guess my computer is not detecting my ipod
i'll plug it in, and it will say it's charging
but when i unplug, it still has the same battery life
i can't put anything new on the ipod, and itunes doesn't pop up or read it's there when i plug it in
    help would be appreciated, thanks

You'll probably need to format your iPod to this computer (i.e., restoring your iPod will do this).
Your iPod won't be able to be restored, though, if it's not recognized in iTunes.
To get it recognized, first try putting your iPod in disk mode, then connecting it to your computer. For more info on this, read here : Putting your iPod into Disk Mode
If that doesn't work to get your iPod recognized by iTunes (to restore it), give the Five R's a try. For more info on the Five R's, read here, and here.
If this doesn't work either to get your iPod recognized properly in iTunes (i.e., you should see it in the left panel of iTunes), I would suggest trying assigning your iPod a different drive letter. Follow these instructions below:
Log off of any other users on your computer.
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
After this, (whichever technique worked: disk mode, five R's, or the different drive letter), restore your iPod.
This should format it to your computer. Although this will delete all the content off of it, this may be your long-term solution (so you won't need to connect your iPod in Disk Mode every time you want to sync songs to your iPod).
I hope that helps you. If you need any additional explanatoin of those things, post back wit the details of your issue, and I'd be glad to try to help you again with this.

  • My 5th Gen. iPod won't charge

I recently got my iPod replaced when the screen was cracked. So I got a brand new one and a yesterday it wouldn't charge. It worked fine for about a month. I didn't get a new cable, I kept the one I had that worked fine. I plug it in and it just won't charge. I tried other sources like my iPod speaker that also worked fine before. It even plays music through it, which means I know it's connected, but it's not charging! I really do not think that it's the cables. Please help!

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod won't charge with car charger or on stereo dock..

A couple months ago, my iPod Nano (1st gen) stopped charging with the car charger and my stereo dock for no apparent reason. Is there some sort of setting that got switched in iTunes that prevents it from charging from other sources, besides the computer?
It charges just fine when I connect it to my PC...but it just doesn't charge when I connect it to the car charger, or my stereo dock...
    Thanks in advance.

No, iTunes probably wouldn't be affecting your iPod's charging from anything but a computer.
Have you tried resetting your iPod?
Press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for about 10 seconds.
If that doesn't seem to work (you might need to try it quite a few times), try taking a look at this:

  • IPod Won't charge when put onto dock

So 2 years ago I got a Phillips Dock for an iPod and I got an iPod 5. The dock was for an iPod 4th gen so I bought an adapter it plays my music but won't charge my iPod....why?

Have you went to Phillips' support site?
Maybe the dock does not provide enough power to charge it with the screen on. If you connect to dock and with the screen off come back hours later is it charged?
