What do i do to position the text ?

Hi everyone,
i'm new to dreamweaver and coding in general. i am making my first web page using photoshop and dreamweaver and it seems that so far i have made good progress on this but the problem is that i can't position the text where i want. see the picture below.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y40/pedped/pic1.jpg
this is the photoshop version and as you can see there are three different types of text in each box.
now what i have done so far is that i have created a DIV for second box and a new style sheet called box2 and in this box2 i have add 3 different rules for each text format ( i don't know what i have done is right or now) and i can't use margin or anything else to move my text to right or down to position my text correctly. i would appreciate your help.

please help if you can

You need to use either padding or margin rules to move the text within the box.. no other way to do it really.
You could use padding in #box p { } rule.  This rule would style any <p> (paragraph) tag in a box with the ID of Box.
eg:  #box p {font-size: 12px; color: black, padding-top: 5px;}
However, before going any further I have to warn you that you should never let an image editor create the html for you.  You need to learn how to slice up the PShop comp and build the page in Dreamweaver yourself.
Image-ready has created a very fragile code base.. here are the reasons why not to use an image editor to write your html:
http://apptools.com/rants/spans.php
The code you provided shows no use of a Doctype at the top of your code - a DTD is need to ensure that your page is rendered as it should in all browsers.  Without a DTD the page will render in quirks mode in non-compliant browsers and not render correctly.  Usually this happened with very early versions of Dreamweaver, what version are you using?

The text has disappeared from my emails in my inbox. What can I do to get the text back?

Try closing the Mail app via the taskbar and see if the email text shows when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it they try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

• Export to WORD - what's with these boxes around the text?

Post Author: Emily
CA Forum: Exporting
I am new to CR.  I am using version 10.0.0.533  We use CR with ClearQuest for problem reporting and other data collection.
Rational (ClearQuest Vendor) tells me it's a CR X problem.
I use a CR report exported to MS WORD as a template for taking meeting minutes.  With our old CR version, the ClearQuest export was great and I was able to add text into the report.  With CR X, the report in MS WORD comes out in text boxes and editting this output is not pretty.   I do not want the boxes, I just want free flowing text as if I had written a WORD doc so I can edit it easily during the meetings.  I have tried export to text, copy, paste but I loose all of the formatting.  I have tried HTML and then copy, paste, but this is even worse than the text output.  RTF also has the text in boxes.
Someone out there MUST have run into this problem also.  Help me...

• Re Designing a book cover  how do I position the text on the spine?

Typing text on spine. I have used vertical text but I want it to read from left to right when turned on side (like a real book) Help

I was wondering about that! My personal preference would be for the
lettering to run vertically- that way, I wouldn't get a sore neck tilting
my head trying to read spines!

• How to convert the Adobe 10 PDF to Adobe LiveCycle ES2 so that I can make the text boxes expandable?

When I convert the Adobe 10 PDF to Adobe LiveCycle ES2 it is a static document, thus not allowing me to make the text boxes expandable.  How do I take a current Adobe 10 PDF with Text and convert it to Adobe LiveCycle ES2 so that I can make the text boxes expandable?

Hi Alan,
TextField objects can expand dynamically.  There are a few things that you need to do:
1. The TextField object should be contained in a subform that is set to Content: Flowed.  This isn't technically necessary, but if you have anything below the expanding text box and the subform is set to Positioned, the text will expand and overlay what's below.
2. On the Field tab of the text field's Object property tab, check the Allow Multiple Lines checkbox
3. On the Layout tab, check the Expand To Fit checkbox under Y:/Height
4. Set the PDF Render Format under Form Properties/Defaults to Dynamic XML Form.  If you're previewing in Designer, don't forget to set the preview to Dynamic too.

• Help! Deform the text

Hello,
As a beginner, please excuse me if you find my request for assistance stupid!
I want to know how to distort the text so that it fits perfectly with a circular animation.
I tried the deformation tools, I find that no permits to do what I want, in fact I can not find similar deformation tool like in photoshop that really allows you to manipulate the text in every way.
I wish the text starts and make a "360 degree"

Thank you,

Same result, different approach. You still have to match the perspective of the cylinder to the shape of your building. That is what is required to make the composite believable.
Same idea without the camera. You may find this easier to use to match the perspective of your image:
Per Character 3D is only available in AE CS3 and above so you should have it.
BTW, I don't think it is a good practice to rotate the camera 90º in X using a null. This makes laying out a 3D scene counter intuitive and could cause you other issues down the road. If you did want to add a camera know that perspective, the think you need to match in your image, is controlled by camera position and framing is controlled by zoom factor (focal length). If I were doing your project and wanted to use the 3D text feature I would create the 3D text layer as above with the text layer rotated 90º in X, then add a camera with a standard lens, then position the text layer and adjust the size of the mask so that it was about as wide as the Coliseum, then I would move the camera down in Y only and in and out in Z until the perspective matched. If I needed a wider lens to include all of the text layer I would adjust the zoom factor.
This technique will allow you to add other 3D elements to your scene and have them interact with the scene. If the shot is moving, you could use AE's camera tracker to lock everything up.

• Why the Text disappears when I rotate it using Free Transform Tool?

Hi,
My Text is visible before rotating it to verticle position using Free Transform Tool. But when once it is rotated to verticle position the text disappears from the Stage. And it is not an animated Text as well? What is the problem?
Thanks.

If the textfield is manually placed on the stage, you should be able to select the textfield and click the button for Embedding that is in the Properties panel.

• MIDP 2.0: Positioning the caret

Deep joy.
On the Sun emulator, I can position the text insertion caret into a text field by calling setText( String) on that field. However, when I deliver the MIDlet onto the device using IBM's j9 MIDP2.0 implementation, it doesn't work. I've read through the MIDlet documentation, and I cannot see any official means of setting the position of the text insertion caret.
What am I missing?

Thank You for ur help. I have now used the PRESSED methods to allocate most of the keys. I have one final question though how do u use the star and hash symbol because it isnt under the pressed methods on the key methods and this mucks all the keys up. Is there another way of using these keys without using the key method from canvas.

• How to make an applet to read the Text file present inside a jar

Hi All,
I have writen one applet named ReadFile.java which reads a text file present in the same directory and does some manipulation of text file contents.
The applet code runs successfully when i run the applet in command prompt like
{color:#ff0000}*java ReadFile*{color}
And i am getting the needed results.
Then i made a jar file with the applet code and text file as
{color:#ff0000}*jar cvf rf.jar ReadFile.class File1.txt*{color}
Then i have inlcuded this applet inside a html file as
{color:#ff0000}*<applet code= "ReadFile.class" width= "500" height= "300" archive = "rf.jar" ></applet>*{color}
after this when i load the html file, the applet code is not executed fully. Its throwing FileNotFoundException: File1.txt.
Applet is not recognizing trhe text file present inside the jar file.
Can any body explain me how to overcome this problem. Any setting needs to be done for making the applet indicate the presence of Text file inside the jar file.

what code in your applet gets the text file and reads it? are you using getResource or something similar?

• UITextView doesn't display the first part of the text

I am having a trouble with UITextView.
When a text view is loaded for the first time after my app is launched (the text view is created and text is filled from saved data), the text view displays from the first letter of the text.
But once the text view becomes first responder, then disappers by pressing back button on a navigation bar, and come back to the text view again by using a control on the previous view (a button for instance), the text view always displays the last part of the text.
This happens after the text view becomes first responder. What is changed before and after the text view becomes first responder? And how can I avoid this to display the first letter in the text view always when it appears?
I tried resignFirstResponder, selectedRange, and scrollRangeToVisible: in viewWill/DidAppear/Disappear but all of them didn't work.

Thank you iPhil_good, but it didn't work ...
And RickMaddy, I don't know how to post image but as it is UITextView, I use text to explain.
There are two views, home view and text view, and UITextView is in the text view. The first time the UITextView appears (slides in from the home view), it looks like:
Test[1] Test[2] Test[3] Test[4]
Test[5] Test[6] Test[7] Test[8]
Test[9] Test[10] Test[11] Test[12]
Suppose the text starts at Test[1] and ends at Test[200], and just the first 50 are visible within the size of the UITextView.
Once I tap on the UITextView, keyboard appears and UITextView becomes first responder (editable). Then I go back to the home view using back button on the navigation bar.
Then again I move back to the text view from the home view,. This time it looks like:
Test[189] Test[190] Test[191] Test[192]
Test[193] Test[194] Test[195] Test[196]
Test[197] Test[198] Test[199] Test[200]
I would like to display the text from Test[1] whenever the view appears. If the UITextView hasn't become first responder, this doesn't happen and the text starts from Test[1] when it appears. But once the UITextView becomes first responder, the UITextView always displays Test[200] at the bottom of the view when it appears.
I am not sure but it looks as though some internal state of UITextView changes when it becomes first responder, but isn't reset even after it resigns first responder.

• Problem with lower third template & modifying the text...

I'm doing a top 10 type video, & I downloaded this lower third template & I had never used AE before; I figured out how to duplicate it multiple times through the video where appropriate... but when I modify the text on one template it does the same thing to all of them. How do I make them all separate?

Ok, think about what you have done to change the text for moment. You drilled down to a pre-comp or nested comp that contains a text layer. This makes perfect sense. Unfortunately that text pre-comp is also nested in a pre-comp. This means you need to find each of these pre-comps in your project panel and duplicate them there, open the duplicates and then change the text in the duplicates, then replace the original nested comps in the main comp.
I have another observation on your workflow. You've put a bunch of shots and transitions in a single comp which, in effect, tells me that you are using AE as a NLE (editing app). What I would have done is to put every one of your shots that you want to add titles to in a separate comp to simplify each comp. I'd then edit them in a NLE....
The other way I would do this project is to make a comp that is just the needed titles, one comp for each tltle overlay, render the titles with alpha channels, then bring the titles and the original footage into a NLE to edit and add titles.
Building extremely complex compositions with multiple shots in a single comp is usually not a very good idea, even for folks like me that have been doing AE for 20 years. AE is perfect at making shots, lousy at editing sequences so always, and I mean always, try to figure out how you can simplify your project to it's basic elements and build a comp on that. I've had 5 second animations with over a hundred layers, but I've never put 10 or 20 video clips in AE in a single comp and tried to create a sequence.

• A few tips about using the Text Panel

A recent question about the text panel set me to working with it and I thought I'd share some tips I discovered, since the help files don't explain the text panel at all.
At one time I called the text panel "useless", but I've changed my mind -- it's a nice thing to have.  Essentially it's a quick way to instantaneously
Create a new layer with a semi-transparent layer style.
Create a rectangular shape on that layer.
Add a drop shadow effect to that shape.
All with a double-click!
You access the text panel from the "Effects" panel and its "Photo Effects" icon, choosing the "Frame" effect:
Double-clicking on it creates the layer and the shape.  By default, the text panel layer has a semi-transparent layer style applied to it and this has caused great grief for those who want a completely opaque background behind some text.  Not to worry, that's easily done.  To whet your appetite, here are a few effects that can be achieved with the text panel:
Let's start with the "Big text" box:
Create the text panel.
Because we want an opaque panel, right-click on the shape in the Editor and select "Clear layer style".  POOF!  Instantly you've got an opaque white shape with no drop shadow.
Move and resize the panel.  (It's still horizontal at this point.)
Add some text (which will come in on its own layer).
Size and position the text relative to the shape, and when you're satisfied, select both the shape layer and the text layer (using the Ctrl key) in the Layers panel and click on the "Link layers" icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.  This links the shape and text so they can be moved and rotated as one.  The layers wind up looking like this:
Now, let's look at the "small text" box:
Create the text panel.
Position the panel and add and position some text as before.
Because we want the text panel to be a dark grey (instead of the default white), with the text panel layer selected, select the "Create new fill or adjustment layer" icon at the bottom of the Layers panel and select "Hue/Saturation...".  Be sure to use the "Clip to layer" icon, and lower the "Lightness" value:
This gives the nice transparent grey background so the white text shows up very well, even against the bright white of the clouds.
Select all three of the layers and link them together:
Finally, you can have some fun with the "Fancy" effects:
Create the text panel.
Position the panel, add some text, and set their positions.
Add a "Hue/Saturation" adjustment layer as before (clipping it to the text panel shape layer).
Colorize the text panel by using these settings:
5.  Don't forget to link the layers together:
6.  Double-click on the "fx" icon to the right of the text panel shape layer, which will bring up the "Layer effects" dialog box.  Here you can create the bevel and adjust the size and transparency of the drop shadow.
You can also get this nice faded effect on the text panel:
After following the steps listed above, add a mask layer to the text panel shape layer and draw a gradient fill on that mask layer to fade the layer.  I used a linear fill going from white to a dark gray because I wanted some of the text panel to always be showing:
N.B.: Make sure you always clip the "Hue/Saturation" adjustment layer to the text panel shape layer so that the H/S adjustments only affect the text panel.
That's it!  Enjoy!
Ken

Yes nice job.
Thanks for posting this.

I use  MS Word 2010 and when I print text it appears offset 7 mm to the right. e.g. Left margin set at13 mm starts printing at 20 mm, and Right Margin set at19 mm stops printing at 12 mm. The same offset appears when using other applications e.g. Publisher, Zara, Photoshop etc.
The Top, Bottom, Header and Footer print accurately in the correct position.
Off course, I can adjust the margins to compensate for this error, but this is a bit of a nuisanse and offends my sense of rightness! I have had this printer for 3 years and the problem appeared right from the first day. I have other HP Printers but they do not display this problem. My Printer is directly connected to the computer via USB.

Hello X-23
I have run the 'Align Printer' Tool as suggested, and am pleased to report that this has successfully resolved the issue; a print of one of my documents now positions the text on the page with the correct set margins. I am grateful for your help in resolving this proble for me; keep up the good work!
Unfortunately, I now have to go through all my templates restoring the correct settings but "Hey Ho!"
Being very long in the tooth, I am inclined to not use on line documentation unless I print it out, but this can be an expensive business these days! However, since applying a few of the suite of programmes held in the printer, I have become a lot more confident in using these features, so that is a bonus for me!

• The text does not rotate

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new here
I'm trying to create some animations, I put some text in it, but when I tried to rotate the text within the animation, it doesn't work. The text stands inside the animation only when the animation is in its original form, and while it's rotating the text is gone! What I did wrong?

Place the text inside of a symbol, such as a graphic symbol, and apply the rotation effect to the symbol.  More importantly, if the text is not going to be written dynamically, use a static textfield rather than a dynamic/input textfield.  If you use a dynamic textfield you need to embed the font in order to be able to animate the text.

• Turning off the text for a master data object

What happens if we turn off the texts for a master data object?  (In RSA1, under info objects - double click on info object and go to Master data/texts tab and untick the 'with texts' box).  Are there any risks in doing this?  Has anyone performed this and run into any issues?  Thanks

Hi,
There are no issues in turning off the texts, but if its an object that requires description in the report, say material, plant etc, then you won't have that available as the texts are disabled and not loaded.
Cheers,
Kedar

• Dashboard Prompt Question and Header

Hi, How can I make the the years chosen in the prompt appear as year-year in the header? Now, when I choose a year 2005-2008, it appear as 2005,2006,2007,2008 (I use @{Year}). Is there anyway to make it appear as 2005-2008? Thanks pros.
