What do i do when I receive Fatal Error Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE Server

Can I get some help? I can't get the Acrobat XI Pro to open...I get the Fatal Error Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server.

You already setup a discussion for this, no need to create more. It has only been an hour since your last post. Considering this is Sunday, you may have to wait a while, though it really comes down to when someone with an answer happens to stop by. We are just users, not employees of Adobe (that is why it is called a user-to-user forum). I remember seeing posts on this in the past and suggest you do a forum search for past posts. I do not have the solution at hand.
There are several posts under "DDE Server Acrobat Installation" search.

I have Acrobat XI on PC.  After trying to convert a webpage to PDF, I received a Fatal Error message indicating that "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE Server."  Now, the program will not open.  How do I regain access to the program?

I have Acrobat XI Pro and have been experiencing all sorts of "freeze ups" with it ever since Adobe released the new Acrobat DC the other week.  I see that an automatic update was pushed down to my Acrobat XI Pro at the same time.  Is this the first issue you have encountered with your Acrobat XI, or have you been having other issues suddenly as well??  Just wondering ...

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 - Fatal Error : Acrobat failed to connect a DDE server

    Hi Everyone,
I have some users telling me that when they try to open a pdf attachment in Outlook 2007. Nothing happens. The system just sits there as if you did not click on the attachment. If you wait long enought a popup box from adobe reader comes up and says:
    Fatal Error
Acrobat failed to connect a DDE server.
All the PDFs are very simple, just simple scanned images or converted over from a document into a PDF.
I've tried repairing the install and still had no luck - same behaviour. The only way the pdf opens is if we go into task manager and close the AcroRd32.exe process or logoff and log back in.
If it helps, the most recent system change was the upgrade to IE7 and a new anti-virus software.
    Thanks,
    KEvin

No solution I am afraid but same problem, running full version of AVG and problem hit immediately after Adobe Reader 9.1 upgrade.  Pretty darn sure problem is in the upgrade but the relevant Restore Point was overwritten before I figured it out.  Any advice welcome.

  • Fatal error Acrobat failed to connect to DDE Server

I just purchased the Adobe Acrobat xI Pro & installed. I get a Fatal Error message when I try to open the program. I am running Windows7. What is the problem?

    Hi HP2,
Try launching the application as Administrator and check.
Also update Acrobat to the latest patch i.e. v11.0.08 and check.
You might also want to repair Acrobat from the Control Panel> programs and check.

  • "acrobat failed to connect to a dde server" when in citrix

Hello there.  The Citrix environment that we run in our company uses Acrobat 9.3, as does the employees.  I have one customer that is getting the above error off and on throughout the day.  He states that he can open a few .pdf files in the morning, but that as the day goes on, he starts getting the error.  I have done a repair on his Acrobat, I have also done a complete reinstall of the program.  At one point, I tried Acrobat X but it is still happening.  I do not know of anything else to do.  I have looked on the internet but I have not seen anything that is helping me with this fix.
    Thank you,
    Jeremy

Network connections have not been discussed as an issue for some time. As I recall, Citrix was one of the problem networks. If the user copies the files to his/her harddrive, I assume they work fine. In that case, compare your network setup with a machine that works fine. I have no idea what the issue with the networks were, but it used to be a big problem. As I recall, there was some comment about Acrobat folder use with the network.
Maybe that will help you search for a possible solution. If not, then good luck as you pursue the issue.

  • Q: What does this error message mean and what's next: Acrobat [(XI (11.0.06)]: "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server"?

    Acrobat Reader

Sorry, I didn't read your question carefully, so my earlier reply is incorrect.
You need to make a change to the Windows registry:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\acrobat\shell\open\ddeexec\application: change "AcroviewA10"  to  "AcroviewR10"
To do this automatically, download ddeexec.zip, unzip it, then double-click on the extracted file to run the registry script.

  • Adobe Reader XI - Fatal Error Acrobat failed connect DDE Server

    Hallo zusammen.
    Mein System ist:
    Windows XP SP3
    Adobe Reader XI (11.0.3)
    Outlook 2010
    Exchange 2010
Antivirus: Avast Endpoint Protection Suite Plus
    Fatal Error
Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server.
    Lg Samigasi

  • Windows 7- Adobe Reader X 10.1.4- "An Internal Error Occurred"-"Fatal Error, Adobe Failed to connect

I downloaded Adobe Reader X 10.1.4  lately and I could not open any pdf file I have and gave a message, "An Internal Error Occurred. I tried to change it under the Program Features for updates and fixes  and re-started my computer. Then I tried to open again a pdf file and a message " Fatal Error", Adobe failed to connect to DDE Server. What do I need to do to fix this up? Is Adobe even aware of this?

If all things fail and you are not getting a resolution to this. Delete the Windows 7 User profile.   C:\Windows\Users\<user name>
Reboot, then recreate the user profile by logging on as the User.   You are not done yet.
Logoff and log back as Administrator and go to Regedit and manually delete the user profile from the Registry.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\[SID]    look for the User name.bak
Delete it.   Then reboot and go back and log on as the user.  That should fix it.
If you get lost with those instructions on how to delete user profile.  Go to this link:

Acrobat X Pro does not open and gives fatal error - "Acrobat failed to send a DDE command"
It either does the above or the application starts and is listed in the system processes but never physically opens on the desktop for viewing.

AA 9 will not work for anything but the print function from WORD 2010. The only version of Acrobat that is compatible with OFFICE 2010 for PDF Maker is AA X. Thus, open WORD and print to the Adobe PDF printer. Then open the pdf in Acrobat. Go to FORMS>Add or Edit fields. Since you have no fields at present, Acrobat will ask if you would like to detect form fields. Answer yes and you will get a first cut at the form fields. Yes, you will likely have to add some more and change the ones that Acrobat estimates, but you are on your way.
The other two options you have is to go back to WORD 2007 or earlier or upgrade to AA X (or find someone with AA X and WORD 2010). These methods are pretty much your options with the software combination that you have.

  • Fatal Error Acrobat failed to send a DDE command

Hello all.  I have a fillable form I developed using word 2010.  I am trying to convert it to a PDF form.  I open acrobat and select star from wizard from the Forms menu.  I browse to find the word document and open it.  I save the PDF document and everything looks good.  I get a progress bar that says "Please wait, reading Adobe PDF".  This is very slow progress and then I get the Fatal Error message "Acrobat Failed to send a DDE command".  I click ok and the progress bar continues still very slowly.  I get the same message again.  I click ok and the progress bar continues.  The progress bar gets to the end and just stays there.  Nothing happens.  I waited for an hour and then cancelled it. When clicked cancel, the PDF document opens with my form but without any fillable fields or drop down menus.  I tried to do it again a few times and I get the same error message.   I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 pro version 9.4.2.  Thank you in advance for your help.
