What do i need to connect my macbook pro to my samsung widescreen tv?

My Samsung Widescreen TV has a hook-up (15 pin connector/serial port?) for a PC. What do I need to do to connect my MacBook Pro to it and can I use the TV as the monitor or for viewing an internet website?  I'm trying to use the larger screen for a meeting of several people to discuss website improvements?
Thanks

If you can tell me whch TV & MBP you have i can give you exact cable part numbers and settings but short of that i'll try & see what i can do for you. Older MBP do not support audio over the HDMI & by default VGA doesn't either so will need an audio cable in addition to the video regardless which input you use. aparently newer MBP Do support audio over HDMI so as long as your TV does also you're a one cable hookup. My Samsung has a specific HDMI port labled DVI/ HDMI which accepts a cable i got at the apple store & simply plug  play. Look in your samsung manual to verify what resolutions the TV suppports, select the input & mode from your menue and set the resolution & you should be good to go. Obviously you'll need to do a little tweaking inorder to optimize the screen but assuming you're familliar with your mac to begin with it's a no brainer. you might not be able to run optimal resolution on the TV untill you close the lid (clamshell mode) on the MBP which means you need a key board & trackpad or mouse. on the other hand if you are attempting to mirror the displays or use it as a 2nd display those modes are also available from the MBP setup. you can detect & gather your screens & calibrate the screens right on the MBP (under dispalys) and once you have the TV reckognizing the input it's nothing but a monitor. now all of the above assumes you are NOT running Lion as i'm NOT. I hope this at least gets you in the ballpark.

    Hello,
Some UK links... You can use any of the following to get the video signal out of the iMac and into a standard format:
    Mini DVI - DVI
    Mini DVI - VGA
    Mini DVI - Composite/S-Video.
The DVI will give you best quality, but VGA will be simpler. The DVI to HDMI connector is:
Buy a DVI to HDMI connector (link). Long HDMI cables are pretty expensive though.
Although HDMI can handle sound as neither DVI, MiniDVI nor VGA do you'll need to connect the sound separately. Simply connect the sound out on the iMac to the input on the TV using a cable like this:
    3.5mm to RCA.
If you use the miniDVI to VGA connector here's a long VGA cable (link).
All Macs since about 1999 have had +DVD Player+ installed. I'm not at my Mac right now to check Front Row in Leopard but Front Row in Tiger certainly played DVDs (but +DVD Player+ is a better, more flexible DVD Player).

  • What adapter do I need to connect my Macbook Pro to my Samsung Series 4 4000 led tv?

I bought a PNY Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter but when I plug it in nothing happens. I am guessing that the tv isn't recognizing my Mac. What adapter do I need?

Of course it doesn't. But you can buy an adaptor from HDMI to the Mini-DisplayPort port on the computer.

what cable do i need to connect my macbook pro to the hdmi input on my tv?.

    hi Sam
It's actally an HDMI adapter that Apple sells.
You hook the small adapter up to your MBP and then HDMI cable to your TV. Please note adapter is for HDMI compliant for HDMI rev 1.3 and above:
My TV, which has DVI port also, besides HDMI gets its best resolution by DVI of which also sell at Apple store for the MBP.
Bottom line is check w/ your TV manufacture to be sure your flat screen supports 1920 X 1200.
    Let 'er rip and...

    1) In 'ExFAT' format, is there a limitation on the file size?
    Not one that will matter.
    2) Is 'MAC OS Extended' format, only for MAC computers?
    Yes, only for Mac
    3) What are those (a) journaled (b) Encrypted & (c) Case-sensitive? or when to use those?
    Again, only for Mac.

which cables do I need to connect my macbook pro 2013 to an hd tv?  The port's on the side have changed from my previous Mac.  Thank you.

If you have a retina MBP use a HDMI to HDMI cable.
If you have a non retina MBP, use a minidisplay port to HDMI cable.  Insert the minidisplay end in the Thunderbolt port.
    Ciao.

  • Problems connecting my macbook pro to my samsung led Tv

Hi. I try to present some pictures and videos by connecting my macbook pro to my samsung led Tv but my mac doesn't recognize the Tv (or it could be that my TV doesn't recognize the mac). What should I do?

I have problems too with some projectors and the DVI--VGA adapter that came with my MBP. The projector is recognized by the computer, but does not show any signal.
With the help of Stéphane Madrau, who has written the excellent tool SwitchResX, I found out that the projector reports that it takes digital input when I connect the MacBook Pro, but analog when I connect it to my 12" PBG4. From the DDC information (collected with SwitchResX):
    MacBook Pro, DVI--VGA:
    Input signal & sync:
    Digital
    PBG4, miniDVI--VGA:
    Input signal & sync:
    Analog input with: 0.700V / 0.300V
    Separate Sync
    Composite Sync
Given that the VGA cable is analog only, I would think that the MBP tries (or rather, does) output digital signals only, which don't make it into the VGA cable. If I find a solution I will post it here.
The clue was that the computer did not report any vertical scan frequencies for the external display, while it did so for a projector that worked.

  • EXACTLY what cable(s) do I need to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution?

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011 w/ Intel HD 3000/ 384Mb) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution. Specifically, what cable/connections do I need to display at this resolution? I cannot get the display to work using a "Thunderbolt to HDMI" or a "Thunderbolt to DVI" connector.  Note:  I used both older and newer (uni-directional) HDMI cables on the first config, and a Dual-link DVI cable on the second config.   Apple specs state this is possible ( support.apple.com/kb/SP619 ), but I am at a loss as to how this can be done.  Thanks in advance for the help!

You use a Mini DisplayPort to either HDMI or dual-link DVI adapter. If that component doesn't work, something's wrong with either the cable or something else in the connection.

  • What cable do i need to connect a Macbook pro to a Cinema HD Screen in order see my laptop screen larger?

I want to connect my Macbook Pro up to a cinema HD screen so that i can use a larger screen for editing photos. I am unsure what cable i need to do this, my screen already has a cable attached but won't fit into the macbook due to the fitting (i am unsure of the name of the cable.) Also can a cinema HD screen be calibrated?

You will need either a mini-Displayport to VGA or DVI, and the corresponding VGA or DVI cable to the monitor.

  • Connecting a Macbook Pro to a Samsung LCD TV. Can anyone tell me where to find information on what I need and how to do it?

I want to connect my 2009 Macbook Pro to my Samsung LCD TV. I am afraid to go somewhere and ask and get bogus information so am putting it out here to see if anyone can help with the how tos and the types of cords/adapters I might need to purchase.

You might profit from a visit to a Minneapolis Apple store. With a brand new Mac, I think they will be most helpful - not just with transferring files, but with other advice as well. And I strongly recommend you invest in a back up drive. The Apple folk can help with that as well.

  • What will i need to connect my macbook to my tv?

I have an A1278 model macbook, what are all the things i need to connect it to my tv? Because ive heard from some that it may or may not include sound depending on what cable i get. im planning to buy it off ebay because ive called best buy and they sell it for about 40$ whereas ebay has t for 8$.
What kind of cables will i need for sound and video?

The A1278 is the model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody which has a Mini DisplayPort. If you connect the MacBook using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. But check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
With the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.
