What does shuffle songs in iPod menu as opposed to Settings do?

What's the difference between hitting Shuffle Songs in iPod Menu and cycling through the Shuffle options in Settings? I have a 5th gen iPod Nano and if I turn Shuffle OFF in Settings and then go to Shuffle Songs in Menu, it seems to turn Shuffle back on...So, does Shuffle Songs turn Shuffle on and off too? On mine, it seems to just turn it on.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi boulderskies@ck,
You may want to consult the iPod nano’s user guide, available here -
iPod nano 5th generation User Guide
http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1194/en_US/iPod_nano_5th_gen_UserGu ide.pdf
You will see (on page 6) that selecting Shuffle songs from the main menu will play all songs in random order.
Further descriptions of shuffle functions are found on page 43.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Best,
Brett L

  • What does the "i" in "iPod" stand for and why is lowercase?

What does the "i" in "iPod" stand for and why is it lowercase?

I dont know, I think that was pretty funny.
The i first appeared as a prefix for the iMac. As this was the first one to be equipped with the internet it's a pretty safe bet to assume that it stood for 'internet'.
After that it became a bit of a signature for apple and a kind of unofficial trademark and gets used on everything cos apple think it looks trendy.
Although to be fair the iPod does play tunes that you download using the internet, so there is a link i suppose.
I think this is right but will no doubt get some Mac nerd disagreeing.

  • What does "BookMark" mean in Query menu

    Hi,
When we run a query, the right click menu has a lot of options, ex: drill down according to , Query Properties, etc along with "BookMark". What does it do? i tried to play with it, but coldn't figure out.
    Thanks guys.

Essentially it takes all the navigation steps that a user has performed (drilldowns, swapping columns, etc.) to format their report the way they want.  When you choose the standard BOOKMARK command, it stores this report state internally in BW under a BOOKMARK_ID and the URL changes to reference this.  For example, it may look like:
    http://test.company.com:8080/sap/bw/BEx?SAP-LANGUAGE=E&BOOKMARK_ID=239XO3EZZ3MBX141CD6W5SBSB
This URL can now be used at a later point to refer to the user's saved state.  With the standard functionality, a user could just save this as a browser Favorite & access it there when they chose.  It is a good way for them to personalize a delivered report to their liking without affecting the original.  As mentioned here recently, there was a BW Expert earlier in the year explaining how to expand on this.
    Thanks, Jody

  • Fun Question --- What does the "Pod" in iPod stand for?

I was talking to some friends this weekend, and we got onto the subject of the name "iPod". The "i" seems to stand for "internet", but what about "Pod"? I can't seem to find the definitive answer to this question anywhere.
Does anyone KNOW the real answer?
    Thanks!

I'll be showing my age if I admit to this, but I think the term "pod" comes from the old sci-fi movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956). In the film, Kevin McCarthy plays a doctor in a small California town. He comes back from a two week conference to find something is wrong: It turns out the townspeoples' bodies have been taken over by their exact duplicates who grow out of giant pods (distributed all over the Earth by space aliens, of course). If I'm not mistaken, this was remade in 1978 with Donald Sutherland (Keifer's dad!) and Leonard Nimoy.

  • What happened to songs on ipod ?

I just got my ipod downloaded apple store and put songs on my ipod, but had over 96 songs on that my brother had put on for me from his computer. Now they are gone?

"I just got my ipod downloaded apple store"
I have no idea what that means, but if those 96 songs on your iPod were not in your own iTunes library and you synced your iPod, then they were deleted.
If there are songs on your iPod that are not in your library, then whenever you sync it, they are deleted from the iPod and replaced with whatever is currently in your iTunes.

I broke the screen of my iPod touch 4 gen, and I do have warranty but I just wanna know if the warranty covers that.

    It does not cover damage.

  • What does 'Other' cover in IPOD Capacity?

As a family we have a few ipods of differing sizes and generations. All working fine apart from one thing.
When I check for capacity usage in itunes two of the ipods show quite a lot of memory taken up under the 'other' catagory. Does anyone know how I can reduce the amount of information stored under this area? One of the ipod nanos has almost half of it's current space used up by this catagory of data.

In a related question, is 20.3mb of info in my 'Other' considered a lot?
Also, below is a list of the files and their sub folders:
    Calendars (empty)
    Contacts (empty)
    iPod_Control (device(preferences/sysInfo)iTunes & Music)
    Notes (instructions)
BOOTEX (the results of a disc check of the iPod itself)
My question is other then the iTunes folders, can I delete any and/or all of these files and their related contents and if I do so, will my iPod still work correctly?
Probably a stupid question I know, but I really don't know much about the inner workings of the iPod and I also don't know which program to use to read any of the files listed.
Thanks for any information that you can give me related to these questions.
    Cheers!!

  • What does the "restore previous session" menu option do?

It seems that it would be obvious, except this option is '''''always''''' greyed out.
I keep my history for the longest available period of time, so it shouldn't be erasing anything.

Is session restore enabled and working?

  • What does "The song "Blue On Blue" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" mean?

i've dowloaded some music to my mac from i tunes but it shows a '!' in the list and it says it can't be used because the origional file can't be found. why? how can i fix this?

It means when you click on a track in iTunes the application looks up in its database which file is associated with that information and goes and plays it, but in your case it cannot find the file.  It is asking you to tell it (or not) which file it is supposed to play.  You fix it by answering "yes" and then guiding iTunes to the file it is supposed to play when you click on the track.

  • Video in Shuffle Songs

Okay, I could be completely wrong here, but bear with me.
I seem to remember, months ago, when I clicked shuffle songs, it'd play the music videos as well and actally show the video.
Now when I click shuffle songs, when a video plays, it shows like 5 seconds in as the album cover and plays the audio, but the video doesn't work.
Am I just imagining that it ever did? Or is it supposed to play music videos? If yes, can someone help me fix it?
    60gig 5g ipod   Windows XP

You're imaging it. To watch the actual Music Video, you have to go straight through the Videos menu. From the Main Menu, go to Videos, Music Videos, and select the MV you'd like to "watch." Shuffle Songs just shuffles Songs, meaning, Main Menu > Music > Songs. If you were to access those same MVs via the Songs list, the video wouldn't play. Make sense? Probably not.
