  • What does the open file dialog do 'under the hood' and is there a way to simulate it

What does the open file dialog do 'under the hood' and is there a way to simulate it?
I have a bug in my code (that I've posted about before, here) which I can't fix at the moment, but I do have a workaround.
    Briefly, the bug:
I call a dll from a function node, to initialise and run a spectrometer. If I start up the PC, LabVIEW and run my vi the code runs without complaint, the first call to the dll to initialise the spectrometer doesn;t return an error but the spectrometer is not detected either.
I've tried various solutions, see the link above, and none work
    The workaround:
If, at any time before running the code containing the function node I open an 'open file' dialog window, select the dll and click ok/hit enter then everything is fine. When I run the main code the spectrometer is detected.
I use an express vi to open the file dialog, I specify the start path and file name as constant inputs and just click ok/hit return when the dialog pops up. I don't do anything with the dialog outputs. In fact the vi that contains the open file dialog can be run before the project containing the bug is even open.
I have to do this everytime I turn the PC on.
    So, either
    1) Can somewone suggest a fix for the original bug?
    2) What is the easiest way to simulate the enter keypress when the open file dialog pops up
    or
    3) Can someone tell me what the open file dialog does under the hood that somehow causes the dll to work and can it be simulated in straight LabVIEW
I suspect that the dll itself is dodgy ( I have in the past talked to the supplier but not got very far, and I will try again but I would like a quick, temporary solution too). I'm guessing that the file dialog is making some kind of check on the file, and possibly registering its presence with the OS (winXP). I tried using the file/folder exists vi to see if checking the file like that worked but no luck.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi David
I am very conscious about thread hijacking but this sounded like my issue so I hope you dont mind me asking about your issue. I am hoping that you have a spectrometer from the same vendor as me and its not just me seeing an Error 1097 issue. My spectrometer is from a company called Stellarnet.
So far I have unable to get it to work with other VIs. There is one condition where I can get it to work but its no good for me.
    Case 1
I open the VI in a fresh labview environment with no other VIs in memory. The code runs with no issue.
    Case 2
Labview is not opened. I double click the spectrometer VI in windows explorer.  The VI opens but it fails to run resulting in Error 1097. Personally, I dont see the difference between this and Case 1 above and yet it fails.
    Case 3
If I already have other VI's in memory and try to load the spectrometer VI and run it fails with Error 1097. This case is the one that most important to me. I have a test executive that will load test VIs dynamically and I can't get this to work. Same problem Error 1097.
I wanted to share what I have seen with you and to let you know that maybe somebody else has the same issue. I am convinced its the DLL but the vendor dis-agreed saying it was LabVIEW. I couldn't convince him otherwise.
    Thanks in advance
    David

  • What does the lock with a circle around it mean in the top right corner of my iPhone 5c

What does the lock with a circle around it mean in the top right corner of my iPhone 5c

It means that your screen rotation is locked. Open up the control center by sliding your finger up from the very bottom of the screen, and click on the screen rotation lock symbol, which is the same symbol you see on the status bar.

  • HT5137 what does the circle with a lock in it mean?

What does the circle with a lock in it mean? And how do I make it go away?

What circle with a lock? Can you be a littel more specific? It usually mean the rotation lock is on. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center and tap the icon there (looks the same - its on the top right).

  • HT4059 what does the red light and 'not in store' mean

What does the red light in manage my books mean? And what does 'not in store mean'?

    Hello Simon,
I believe you have two unrelated problems. The red light is only associated with the digital audio port and indicates the "mute" switch inside the jack that turns off the built-in speakers when phones are in use has jammed in the mute position. No way it should affect your ability to start the computer. That has to be something else.
Does your computer give the normal startup chime sounds when you turn it on?
If you are getting the normal startup chime and have a wired keyboard, boot while pressing the SHIFT key. Keep holding the SHIFT key until you get a desktop, then let go the key. At this point, do not try to do any work with the computer but rather see if it will restart normally (without holding any keys or key combos).

What does the message "LIBROOKSBAS. DYLIB PLUG-IN' mean because it will not allow me to open Safari

    Welcome!
You have installed Trusteer's Rapport software that many banks recommend, unware that it is poison to Safari. The developer keeps working on it but, so far, we don't seem to have a stable version that doesn't cause more problems than it fixes.
    Removal instructions are here:

  • What does the number in parentheses after CPU speed mean?

On original iMacs the CPU is given as PowerPC 750 400MHz (2.2) What does the 2.2 refer to? What would the latest version of the PowerPC 750 be marked?

It's probably the release version number of the PowerPC 750.
The G3's are more commonly referred to by the suffix after "750." I believe the last Mac with a G3 was the 900 MHz iBook, and they used the 750FX.
PowerLogix makes some G3 upgrade products that use the later 750GX, up to 1.1 GHz. Unfortunately, none are for the the CRT iMacs.
Some more info about the "G3."

  • What does the black screen with large exclamation point mean?

I'm trying to edit, or even just select a photo in iPhoto, but can't get it to come up - just the black screen with a large exclamation point. What does that mean, and how do I get back control of my photos?

It means your database is corrupted and that iPhoto has lost the link between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the actual file.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards

  • What does the error message "Bad parameter - bad /Widths" mean?

In trying to add Bates numbers to a multi-page file, the numbering always proceeds up to the same page, then stops with the error message  "Bad parameter -- the font 'OPSUFont0' contains bad/Widths." What does that mean, and how do I correct it? The page itself will not accept a Bates number.
    Message was edited by: AllanHaley

Got a document with this same problem (Acrobat X):  "The font 'OPSUFont0' contains bad /widths."
Printing and rescanning the offending page has been the past solution.
Took a closer look using Preflight > Analyze > Overview > Fonts --- the difference from other fonts in the document is "Font defines differences from base encoding"
When that is clicked upon, it goes to the page and there is a little place delineated with blue lines.
Problem isolated -- How to fix it?

I'm not being facetious or trying to brush off your question. If you want to know what someone meant when they said something, ask them. It's the most direct line and gives the highest probability of getting a useful, accurate answer to your question.

  • What does the number after my wireless client name mean

I have an airport express and have set up my network properly.  Just recently I have noticed that there is a number (sometimes in parentheses, sometimes not) after the wireless client name when I look at my network with my airport utility.  What does this number stand for and why does it keep changing?

This is a known bug in Yosemite.
    On your Yosemite Macs.......
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Sharing
Edit the name of the Mac to what you want
Things may be OK for a day or two, but the (2), (3), (4), etc will come back to visit until we get a fix from Apple
I don't have an AppleTV here to check, but you can probably change the name in the settings for the AppleTV.

  • What does the blinking file folder mean when I turn on my computer?

So my computer got unplugged while it was loading a web page and now when I turn it on it just shows a blinking/flashing file folder with a question mark on it.  What am I supposed to do?

The startup disk has possibly been corrupted...try starting holding the Option key and then select the main hard drive and see if you can continue to normal startup.  If that does not work, insert your Mac OS X install disk, you show you have 10.6.8, and restart either holding the Option key and select the install disk or holding the C key so you boot from the install disk.  Then reinstall Snow Leopard to cleanup whatever is corrupted.  If you do a normal reinstall you will not lose information.
