iPhone status icons are shown and described on pages 12-13 of the iPhone User Guide.

What does the lock with a circle around it mean in the top right corner of my iPhone 5c

It means that your screen rotation is locked. Open up the control center by sliding your finger up from the very bottom of the screen, and click on the screen rotation lock symbol, which is the same symbol you see on the status bar.

  • What does the icon on the top of the screen of the ipod touch that looks like a lock with a circle around it mean?, What does the icon on the top of the screen of the ipod touch that looks like a lock with a circle around it mean?

So at the top of my screen like where the time is... there is this symbol that looks like a lock with a circle around it. It is next to the battery icon. What does this mean?

It's the screen orientation lock. It prevents the screen from switching between portrait and landscape views when you turn the iPod.
To engage or disengage this feature, double click the home button. This will bring up the multitasking tray. Swipe all the way to the left until you see the iPod controls, then tap the gray icon with the lock on it. This will toggle the feature on and off.

  • What does the icon of a folder with a question mark inside mean?

After an overnight power outage I tried to turn on my iMac this morning, but all I got was clicking sounds and a gray full screen with the icon of a folder with a question mark inside it, blinking. (There's no tool bar that appears anywhere). What does that mean?
I've tried unplugging the system and waiting a while before attempting another boot. Same screen.
I recently (a month ago) upgraded to Snow Leopard from my original OS X software. Never had this sort of a problem before. The iMac was purchased around 2005 or 2006. Intel Dual Core processor.
Thanks for any help on this.

Thanks, Paul, for the prompt reply.Obviously, your answer isn't what I wanted to hear, but feared. When I get home tonight I'll try finding the install disk and booting from that. Fortunately, I still have a MacBook Pro that is running fine.  Incidentally, I have a Western Digital external Hard Drive that has very little, if anything on it. But since I can't open anything on the iMac, I guess I'll have to see if the install disk works before I try to figure out IF I can use that WD-External drive temporarily rather than replace the HD on the iMac. Any clues on what a replacement drive and labor runs for that sort of iMac repair?

  • What does the "+" symbol next to the price in shopping cart mean?

I have several songs in my shopping cart with a "+" next to the 99cent price. What does it mean? Thanks.

To state specifically, those are iTunes Plus files, Yes, they are DRM free, with better audio quality being AAC @256. If you will take a look at the right side of the main store window, there should be a link for iTunes Plus where you should be able to get more information.

  • What does the symbol next the printer name mean?

this symbol comes up when I put my printer on Wireless it is a wireless printer. how do i set it up so i can use it wirelessly does that symbol mean something?

See if this works - make sure MAC Address Filtering isn't enabled on the router that can prevent devices joining a network.
I'm assuming the printer has a control panel and neither the router or the printer support WPS Pairing (if they do, post back 'cos that can make it very easy). You'll need to know the wifi encryption method your router is set to and your wifi password.
This may not be the exact sequence as the menus on printers vary from make to make but the process seems to be similar across brands.
Press the 'menu' button on the printer and select 'network', select 'wlan' and it should offer a setup wizard' or similar. From there is should display your network, select it, encryption type, select it. You'll then need to input your password, normally by using the up/down and left/right arrows. OK it when done and voila (hopefully) you'll be connected. Then on the Mac in System Preferences>Print & Scan you should be able to add the printer.
Sometimes, but not always, I've found that I've had to connect the printer via usb cable during the process of setting up. Then once connect via wifi unplugged it.

It's Orientation Lock, which will kee the screen from rotating when you rotate the device.
It's accessible from Command Center- swipe up from the bottom of the screen.  You should see the icon to turn Orientation Lock on or off.

    Greetings,
Hm. I've never seen that in iCal.  In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file.  My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
    Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • What does the icon next to the location icon mean? It has a lock with an arrow circling it.

What does the icon next to the left of thelocation icon mean and to the right of the time? It has a lock with an arrow circling it. Thanks

It's the portrait orientation lock.  When on, and that icon showing, the screen won't rotate to landscape view when you rotate the phone.
To turn it off - double click the home button to show the recently opened apps bar, slide it to the right showing the iPod controls and the Portrait Orientation Lock on the left.

You have silenced the ringer. Check the little switch near the external volume controls. Orange showing indicates silent mode.
