What Ethernet cable is best for connecting hub to ...

Does it matter which ethernet cable is used to connect the vision box for the extra channels?, is it just a normal ethernet and can anybody recommend a good one please (possible 15 or 20 metres).
Background: The engineer was supposed to install vision (with Ethernet) and infinity (upgrade from long time adsl/vision with power line adapters). It was on my order confirmation and in order tracking - on the day of installation the engineer (not open reach) said "not on my job list" - I showed him emails, he rang his office said nothing he could do about it and he had just came from someone with same issue. He told me to set up my new box (I previously had original black box) with the LANs I already had.
When I contacted BT (dealing direct with a member of the care team) she was not happy and said it should of been done and that if I needed an engineer l would not be charged (as it was supposed to have been done) they even had an issue "closing" the order because the vision installation was still open. I was then told (because of how I long may have to wait for an appointment) that they would send me a 10 Meter cable - and if that wasn't long enough/ didn't work - then arrange for the engineer to come out (free of charge).
Now I'm not sure if 10 meters will be long enough (it will be tight if it is) - so if it doesn't fit I want to look into just buying a larger one (rather than another few weeks of waiting).
The extra channels are working fine with the LANs (for now), but I would rather have a wired connection (so if anything goes wrong it won't be blamed on my set up/less chance of errors).

Any normal network cable will do really as long as it looks like reasonable quality. Sometimes called an RJ45 cable, or cat5 cable. You might be able to get a back to back connector and just buy a lead to extend the one they've sent to you. A back to back just connects two ethernet cables together. Powerlines are OK under some circumstances but are not recommended or supported by BT.

Mine has four  Seriously shauntana the splitter is easy, a simple click to changre feed and eventually you will damage the HDMI port or cable by taking it in and out.  True you can only use one feed at a time nut you can only use one port on the telly at one time too.  I used it on my old one port telly for PS3 and Sky and it worked a treat.

  • What office program is best for macbook air 2013

what office program is best for macbook air 2013

    To create some sanity here:
If you are going to share files with family, friends, and coworkers Microsoft Office is the obvious and easy (though expensive) choice.
If you are trying to save money and still remain compatible with friends LibreOffice is free and can read/write Microsoft Office files nearly perfectly.
Another free choice is Apple's iWork suite (you'll have to download it from the App store because it isn't pre-installed) Numbers, Pages, and Keynote. These programs read Microsoft documents mostly accurately but not quite as well as LibreOffice and export to Office compatible documents. But neither LibreOffice nor iWork saves in Microsoft formats by default which means you must remember to export them. That can be a problem.
In terms of ease of use I give iWork a slight edge over the other two. In terms of doing annoying things I don't expect, Office is the hands down winner.

Where did you come up with the $700 figure?
Photography plan - $9.99/month or $119/year - Creative Cloud Photography plan : Adobe Creative Cloud
    Single App - $19.99/month
Complete plan - $49.99/month or $599/yr - Creative Cloud free trial & plans : Adobe Creative Cloud
Ah - If you wish to cancel early yeah $74.99 which would total for the year at $899.88. But that final total would be if you canceled in the 12th month but if you plan on keeping it that long might as well go for the annual contract. Then cancel at the end of the term limit if you need to.
If you are not sure what to get, Either Elements as was suggested by Peru Bob or the photography plan.

  • What ethernet cable do I need for my Satellite A300?

    Hi there,
I just bought a Toshiba Satellite A300 today, and I have just plugged in my ethernet cable that is plugged into my normal PC, however it seems to be stuck.
IS there a special ethernet cable you use with a Notebook or is a problem with my jack?
If someone could let me know that would be great.
    cheers

no one side of the ethernet cable is plugged in the modem and always and then the other side is usually plugged into my PC now i have take in out of my pc and put it in my notebook jack and it will not come out, the connections fine, It's just if I want to take it out to plug back in my comp it wont come out and obviously I'm a bit nervous to pull it hard in fear I'll damage the jack.
    any thoughts?

  • Ethernet cable doesn't appear connected?

Over the last few days I have had an intermittnet difficulty conencting to thr Internet.
I discovered that although it's physically plugged in, the ethernet cable isn't - the System Network reports, 'The cable for the Built-in Ethernet is not plugged in'.
I changed th cable and find it does work okay on a differnet mac. Somehow the physical connection, which looks okay, seems not to be working.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong and what options I have for a fix?
Would an ethernet card provide a viable alternative ethernet connector?
    Thanks

    Hi Richard,
I had the same problem as you today. My network status in network showed that my ethernet cable was not connected as well. I did some troubleshooting and my Dell was working ok, my G4 laptop & MBP was working as well because I had everthing hooked up via a router and a DSL modem.
Come to find out, somehow my settings were changed without my knowledge in network. What I did was to change was settings back under network to built in Ethernet. Under TCP/IP tab, I changed the setting to Using DHCP and under PPPoE tab, turn off connect using PPPoe, do this first. After resetting these settings I checked show: network status and everything works like before. It wasn't my Ethernet cable after all. I hope this helps

  • Does an ethernet cable have to be connected after install is complete ?

Is it necessary to keep the modem connected to a computer via ethernet cable after install is complete ?

If you have a wi-fi router or gateway, it is still best to user ethernet if it is convenient like for a desktop computer.  If it's a laptop or portable device then use wi-fi is OK, but you might not get the same speeds depending on the equipment and how far you are from the wi-fi router or gateway.

  • Bridge an AirPort Express from an Extreme connected to a Motorola DOCSIS 3 cable/modem/gateway via an ethernet cable? Can I connect ethernet to the Express to setup/handshake/coordinate, and then unplug the ethernet cable from the Express?

In other words, does the AirPort Extreme NEED to be the device connected to the coaxial cable, or can I connect that cable to the Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem/wireless gateway? (My Internet provider requires DOCSIS 3.0 for speeds above 12 megabits/sec.)
Will the Airport Extreme "program" the Express via an ethernet cable, and than the cable can be removed?
The "bridge" or "repeater needs to be quite a distance away from the physically connected cable modem/wireless gateway and the ethernet- connected AirPort Extreme, and we have wall-to-wall carpeting, and the walls and ceilings are off-limits (family politics), so a looooong ethernet cable is out of the question.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanx!
P.S. The 802.11 in my house (ground floor, about fifty feet away from the modem; in the living room about 35ft away *****! And Motorola touts this wireless gateway as having amazing coverage (360, I think they call it),but in fairness, this house is old and has a 5 hanset cordless landline and a microwave and a fan, etc., etc., etc......

  • HT202807 I have a MB Air 128gb and a Time Cap.802.11AC. My HD is maxed out because of 30GB of photo storage after migration to 10.3.3 Photos. Please recommend an external drive best for connecting to TC and moving the iPhoto Lib off my HD

I have a 13" mid 2011 MB Air 128gb and a Time Cap.802.11AC. My HD is maxed out because of 30GB of photo storage after migration to 10.10.3 Photos. I have reduced apps and files as much as possible so the only thing left is to move the photos.  Please recommend an external drive compatible for connecting to my TC 802.11ac and moving the iPhoto Lib off my HD which will free approx 15 gbs. of space. I don't plan on using it for any other purpose so a small capacity drive will suffice. I know the "optimization" is supposed to adjust for this condition but I don't trust that assertion.I only have 2gb free space remaining.

I don't plan on using it for any other purpose so a small capacity drive will suffice.
If you really only want such a small capacity drive.. what about just buying a 32GB or 64GB USB memory stick.
You should still have a back up to the internal hard disk of the AC TC.
Or just buy a WD Passport.. don't waste your money buying 500GB as it is only a bit more to buy 1TB and a bit more again for 2TB.. For future use if you do buy a USB hard disk buy 2.5" type.. and buy 1TB or if the budget stretches 2TB..

  • What User authorization objects needed for connecting to SAP from xMII?

We eneter a SAP user and password for connecting to SAP from xMII to retrieve the metadata of the incoming IDocs.
When I specify a user with SAP_ALL user profiles, the IDocs are received properly in xMII. If I specify a user with privileges to run only certain transactions, IDocs are not received in xMII.
What user authorization objects are needed for this user to connect to SAP from xMII?
    Thanks,
    Sara

    Sam,
I turned on the SAP System trace for this user and figured out the following auth. objects are required for receiving IDocs in xMII:
    C_TCLA_BKA
    S_RFC
    S_CTS_ADMI
    B_ALE_MAST
    S_IDOCDEFT
The following auth. object is required for making JCO call to SAP from xMII:
    C_AFRU_AWK
    Thanks,

  • What RAID setup is best for FCP 6?

I'm new to high-def editing, having evolved out of Canon XL1s mini-DV work on a G4. Now I'm using FCP 6 in OSX 10.5 on a MacPro 2.8gb 8-core, 10gb RAM, RAID card and four 500gb drives. Footage will be from my Sony PMW-EX1 at full resolution 24p (35mbs). I'll be using a tiny bit of very moderate effects including overcranked shots to be slo-mo.
My question: what would be the best RAID array for me to set up? (Obviously drive 1 will have the apps, so I'm asking: what do I do with drives 2, 3 and 4? Stripe? Raid 5? And should music stay on drive 1?)
    Thanks,
    Shan

Good question on your part. Thanks. My timeline's going to hover around 90 minutes in length and the video tracks will be around 3 deep. That said, I imagine it might be overkill to set up a RAID but since I'm shooting at a ratio of 20 to 1, my total media storage needs are only about 30 hours. Wouldn't a RAID help ease this edit session? ( <= Not a rhetorical question.)

  • What MacBook Pro is best for playing, say minecraft - TF2

I am saving up for a MacBook Pro, but I really need some help choosing the right one, help? ^^

Well I talked to a Genius, and they said the 13" model would be best for gaming, and I really don't have £1,200 right now, so I think I will stick with the 13" model.

  • Itunes has stopped recognizing my Apple TV 1. Internet access (ethernet cable) is ok for itunes and appletv. What could be the problem?

For the last month, after 1 years working without a problem, itunes stopped recognizing my applet tv 1st generation. Itunes account is american and I am located in Brazil. Help?

I have the exact same problem as well, no access to iTunes Connect. I noticed some strange behavior when I received the activation code in my email that might have something to do with it. When I clicked the link to activate my Apple ID as an iPhone Developer it said "We are unable to process your request", but then I logged in http://developer.apple.com/iphone and got access to the Program Portal and so on, so I figured it worked anyway. Perhaps it has two systems for registering you into the program, and we all are registered for the Portal, but not iTunes Connect? I've had this problem for over a week, and despite sending several emails, Apple still haven't resolved the issue for me either.
best of luck to us all, eh

  • [Solved]What WM would be best for a dedicated console emulator box?

    Hey all
So, using a recycled, slightly old small-form-factor computer, I am making a dedicated emulation box. It will run game console emulators for every game system I can think of. But anyways, that is what I intend to use this box for, and only that. I have been setting it up from an Arch Linux base install, aiming to consume the least resources I can (because it is an older box, and I want the best performance with my emulators). I need a recommendation on a Window manager that therefore:
-Does not have ANY sort of taskbars/titlebars/other stuff in the way.
    -Consumes the least resources possible
Now, the current winner is just a default X11 shell that is seen when xinit is run. However, the shell does not cover the whole screen. I want the screen to be all one colour. Because I want the look of using this box with my friends to make it look put together.
    Any recommendations?

I dunno about dwm, it has some bugs with fullscreen apps - funnily enough emulators seem to give it trouble, ScummVM will not run fullscreen on my install for instance.
I'd vote for Openbox, it has no taskbar or anything by default, windows will be initially themed but you can disable window borders and even the right click menu if you wish.
I was thinking openbox at first, because I use it on my main computer and know it pretty well. Thanks.
I was considering dwm, but thanks for the advisory about the fullscreen bugs.
I'll give evilwm a shot too. And give making the x11 shell bigger a shot too.
Thanks for the recommendations, but I have another quick question:
Is there any way to automatically login to the root account on the TTY without the use of X? This machine, once setup, will be only in my house and not connected to the internet, so the dangers of running as root are virtually 0. I want this because, on boot, I will just have to press power, and then without doing anything (aided by a bit of bash) I will be taken to a menu of sorts to select what console and game I want to play.

  • What DVI cable to get for new Macbook

i have recently bought a macbook. i want to connect it to my HD tv, i have recently bought a DVI cable to connect them, it was the Apple - Video adapter - mini-DVI (M) - HD-15
However the cable did not fit inside the port in which it was supposed to.
Could someone please help me find the correct DVI cable for my new macbook containing a MiniDisplay Port.
    Thankyou for your time

Apparently you purchased an adaptor for a Mini-DVI port, but you need one for a Mini-DisplayPort.
If you are connecting to a TV you probably should get an adaptor for Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI and an HDMI cable to go from the computer to one of the HDMI ports on the TV.
