What format converts best to Flash video?

Hi folks!
I'm trying to get the best Flash video I can. I can export from my editing program (Final Cut Express) in a number of formats, including QuickTime, mpeg4, and avi. Is there a preferred format such that the final conversion to Flash will be optimum? Any ideas? I realize I'll still have some trial and error, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice. I would appreciate your help immensely. Thanks very much!

Generally, if you have the option to encode to H.264, that will be your best bet.  Modern version of the Flash Player (versions 9+) allow for H.264 video playback without any additional encoding.  If you don't have that option, then Quicktime would be your second-best bet, as it uses H.264 under the hood.

SkyFire is not free, Ralph. It's $2.99 for the iPhone version and $4.99 for the iPad version. I don't know of any of the Flash browsers that are totally and permanently free; all either cost up front or are free for a trial period only.

  • What is the best Monitor for Video editing & Graphic Design?

    Hi every one,
I would like to find out what is the best monitor for video editing and graphic design that you recomend, I am trying to buy one but not sure which one is good and not expansive.
    Thanks very much

I don't want 2 monitors, so a single 27inch model just what I need... plenty of room for PPro, or I can have a Word document and a Text file open and side by side
    John,
That is personal taste and there is no discussing taste. However, from my perspective, and that is personal, I prefer 3840 x 1080 resolution with dual monitors over 1920 x 1080 with a single monitor, but that is because I very often have Firefox, Filezilla, Dreamweaver and some other applications open at the same time, switching between the Adobe forums, Gmail accounts, Notebook results from the PPBM5 data submissions, PPBM5 form submissions, MySQL access, phpadmin pages to update the database, the PPBM5 results pages and various DW .php pages for the maintenance of our database and switching back and forth between various versions of PR. I occasionally really run out of real estate with all these applications and could not consider a single monitor with only 1920 x 1080 resolution, even if it were a 105" screen. In the future I would even like to have a four monitor setup (with MPE hardware support) in a two by two configuration, so that I can freely move my application screens around.
If that happens, notice I say if and not when, my preference for a monitor would be something like 4 Samsung F2380 monitors. Small bezel, great display and panel, affordable.

  • What is the best, safest MXF video converter for mac?

I need to view MXF video files on my macbook pro. Wondering if anyone knows what is the best video converter to use for these files?

Hi, I just got one recommended to you. It is iOrgSoft Video Mate. It can convert camcorder footages like MXF, AVCHD, MTS, XAVC, MOD, etc to regular video formats like MP4, MOV, 3GP, etc. I usually it to convert AVCHD files from my Sony cam. I think it works fine for me. You can have a try using it to convert MXF files.

  • What is the best pop-up video player for flash?

I am looking for the best way to create/find a pop-up video player for my flash site.
Meaning, clicking on thumbnails on a site and a new window/video player pops up.
I would love to use Vimeo, but I can work with YourTube if that is all there is.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

I do not used videolightbox, but it may work just fine....but have created a similar effect on my own:
    http://www.hiesequim.com/education_center_test.html
The big blue button in the middle of the page is a Flash .swf which communicates to javascript to show/hide a <div> containing a Flash video player. In this case it's not a separate pop-up window but an overlay. the important thing is that you can communicate between Flash and javascript, which will do the pop-up.
So yes, you can create pretty much any type of pop-up you want. You'll be using actionscript in your tumbnails to communicate with javascript which will pop-open the window.
In AS2 you use getURL or ExternalInterface to communicate with javascript.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/156/tn_15683.html
    In AS3 :
    http://simplistika.com/as3-javascript-communication/
For a pop-up window, you still need to create a second, actual html web page to hold the video player... embed Vimeo or whatever player you want.
You also need the javascript to do the pop-up:
    http://www.javascript-coder.com/window-popup/javascript-window-open.phtml
or Google "javascript popup window" for tons more of examples.
If you are looking for more of the overlay type, like the link I posted above, the layout is a little different, you'll just be displaying a <div> which will hold your player instead of a whole separate page. Then you can use javascript show/hide:
    http://www.randomsnippets.com/2008/02/12/how-to-hide-and-show-your-div/
or Google "javascript show hide" for tons more of examples.
So in your Flash, you use a thumbnail as a button which communicates to the javascript in the HTML section of your Web page (remember, there is no such thing as a Flash Web page, only HTML, PHP, ASP, etc pages which may happen to have some Flash content). The javascript then responds by opening a pop-up window which displays another HTML web page that you have created and has the Vimeo player displayed on that second, popup page.
    Best of luck!

  • What format/codec to post web videos?

At work they want to post videos we produce on our web site. They will range from a minute to an hour or more. We have heard pitches from companies that do all the work for us, all we have to do is upload the files and provide an interface on our web site. Viewers will not have to install player software, it will just "work" like YouTube.
But of course, the suits decided that was a bad idea, and we will be compressing the files ourselves and hosting it on some server space that comes in at the lowest bid. Our potential viewers will probably not be web savvy, and may be reluctant to download new player software or plugins. Few of our employees even know what the word codec means, and have begun happily compressing files using random settings, and not concerned about quality. (They are also not concerned that they are shooting stuff on HD cameras in 16:9 and using it in 4:3 projects, and people look really skinny).
My question is, what file format/codec to use? We are mostly editing on Final Cut Express or Final Cut Studio (with Compressor). Perhaps we should do it "Wild West" style, and let everybody compress their programs their own way, maybe different every time they do something? That way, the home computer user is bound to find at least one video that will play on their computer.
    Sigh!

FCE and FCpro are both editors, no converter tools.. allthough they allow to use the QT-engine to create a few codecs..
I would consider flv as a 'standard', by sheer market power of youtube.
but that is no codec in FCE's options .
my workflow, in 10.6. would be:
in FCE: Export QT movie (not QT compression!)
    open that file with QT_X
    choose upload to YT
use 'embbed'-code offered by YT on my site..
.. perhaps, that is too simple..
with FCE you have NO option, to generate a 'web video'; any export needs Quicktime on end-user's side.. FCE doesn't offer flash-video as option.. you need 3rd party apps for that, plus some skills to integrate into a webside, resp. set-up some 'video server' ..
Compressor allows flv as export. still, integration into 'web' unanswered ..
1h webvideo? phpheewww ... that asks for 'streaming video' ..

  • What controls width in streaming flash video?

I need to access and stream flash video stored on a US server.  I do so from one of three PCs - all running Windows 7, all with same updates and same version of Flash.  Two of them show a given video fine.  The third runs the same video but it is clearly truncated on the right and bottom - that is, only part (top left two thirds?) of the video is visible.  And two show timecode and the third...doesn't (or its hidden by the truncation).  But how can this be???  And more importantly, what can I do to make the third PC play streaming video correctly?
If this isn't posted in the best place please say so.
    Bemused and baffled.

Check if the same issue is repeating with new flash player version 10.1.82.76.
    Thanks,

  • What's the best method for video loop + precached video transitions?

Hello, I am hoping that a kindly Flash guru can send me
running off in the right direction.
What I want to do is make a SWF which works in the same
manner as a DVD menu, using Flash video.
Simply put, that means having a video loop for the background
of each 'page', with links to other pages. Each of these links
would travel through a video transition to reach the next page.
I am an experienced Java programmer; After Effects user and
DVD Author but I have to admit that as a beginner to Flash, I find
the number of ways you can embed video... symbols... media server
    etc. quite confusing.
All I want to do is have my loops and transitions as FLV
files on my normal HTTP server, play the current loop while
    precaching the possible transitions etc.
I am very happy to research the precise coding aspect of this
but I am hoping someone can tell me which of the (apparently
numerous) methodologies available is the best one to go down.
Do I need to have all my objects in the timeline, or can I
have a single object and reassign the video with code?
If it helps my video loops and transitions are 400x300 and
around 4-10 seconds, so the bandwidth requirements aren't
    unreasonable.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

so just make your video as movie clip. >import
video>deployment>embed video SWF and play in time
line>symbol type - movie clip > ..... than your video become
movie clip and you can easily modify like any other MC in time
    line.
i hope that i'm answering your question so far.

  • What format should I use for video in Director 11.5.9?

    I'm running Director 11.5.9 on Windows7, 64 bit with Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.4GHz with 16 GB RAM.
I'm trying to insert some videos into an existing Director program written in 640x480 rez.  A QT movie looks awful at full screen.  AVI doesn't run at all. Some mpeg xtras no longer work with Director 11, so what formats do I have available to work with in Director 11?
    Thanks.

  • Help. What format is best to export to for Final Cut Pro editing from PPCS5?

Ok. So I really have no experience with Final Cut. After reading online for an hour about what formats to use, I was still left with no clear answer and confused. Here's my issue: I have 1080i 60i .tod files from my JVC ready to be batch exported from CS5 Encoder, I need a format that will be read and able to be edited on Final Cut Pro without issue.
Could someone with Final Cut experience please chime in:
    What should I use exactly?
    Greatly appreciated,
    Nick

Are you using Premiere on the same Mac that FCP is on? If so, your best format choice is QuickTime and codec choice would be ProRes422. If, however, you're on a different Mac or on a PC instead, I'd suggest QuickTime with the freely available, cross-platform Avid codecs. You'd probably want to use DNxHD, in that case.
The Avid codecs are great because, well, they're free, but more importantly, they're available for both decoding AND encoding on Mac and PC. ProRes, on the other hand, only has an encoding component for Mac, and it has to have FCP installed on it.

  • What format's best for burning iDVD project?

I have a two hour documentary I'm hoping to burn in iDVD.
Using Quicktime Pro and/or Mediaclip I created files in these formats: .dv, m4v, mov.
Given the length of the film, what format file should I import into my iDVD project?
    Thanks very much.
    Bohdan

First recommendation is to not exceed 2 hours of QuickTime playback (120 mins) for SL media (and twice that for DL). It's actually smart to keep it a few mins. shy of the stated duration/s.
Secondly, here are the files which work best:
