What format should I use for new  FCP slide show to DVD project?

I want to edit a slide show movie. I have all of the high resolution images. I plan on authoring the project to DVD 16:9 anamorphic with DVD SP. Later I would like to author to 1920 x 1080 HD on Blu-Ray. ( I can't afford Adobe BR authoring software at this time, I want to start with the DVD) I am looking for advice. I want the quality of DVD and future Blu-Ray to be best possible quality. I'm thinking there are two options I might use:
1. Edit the FCP project in HD 1920 x 1080. Use Compressor to convert the sequence to 16:9 anamorphic for DVD SP input. I am thinking I will have the HD sequence ready for the Blu Ray in the future. I like this approach. Is the conversion possible with compressor? What exact format and frame rate should I use for the FCP project?
2. Edit the FCP project in 16:9 Anamorphic. Compress for DVD SP input. I am not fond of this option. I don't look forward to making rectangular pixel images in Photoshop for one. That will be a lot of work for this project. I won't have an HD sequence ready for Blu Ray in future, I will have to start a new project from scratch to make the HD version.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Edit in a 1920x1080/30p Pro Res sequence settings.
Export that to a self contained movie current settings, and use which ever SD DVD preset to encode for use in DVD SP.
The self contained movie can eventually be used in Adobe Encore for blu ray authoring.
But having "high resolution" images/photos means nothing in video.
1 dpi is sufficient at 1920x1080 unless you plan to pan and zoom, in which case double the pixel size, not the dpi.
300 dpi produces no better image than 1 dpi.

  • What format should I use for video in Director 11.5.9?

    I'm running Director 11.5.9 on Windows7, 64 bit with Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.4GHz with 16 GB RAM.
I'm trying to insert some videos into an existing Director program written in 640x480 rez.  A QT movie looks awful at full screen.  AVI doesn't run at all. Some mpeg xtras no longer work with Director 11, so what formats do I have available to work with in Director 11?
    Thanks.

  • What format should I use for Maxtor  One Touch III external hard drive

I'm not sure if I'm on the right forum section, but hopefully you can help. I just got a Maxtor One Touch III external hard drive with the firewire 400/usb 2.0 port. I installed the cd and followed the manual and it told me to format it. I went to disk utility and went to the "erase" section, but now it wants me to choose the type of format: mac os extended (case-sensitive), mac os journaled, mac os (case-sensitive, journaled) and so on.... Can anyone tell me what those formats mean/do, and what is the best one to use? Thanks!

Case sensitive is really if you are using some old UNIX programs that you have brought the source over to OS X and compiled them. And the UNIX programs have to expect a case-sensitive file system.
I'm betting this isn't the case... or you'd know what a case sensitive file system is.
    So go with HFS+ Journaled

  • What format do I use for internal drive?

I want to install a new internal harddrive into my Macbook.  What format should I use for it?
    Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    Mac OS Extended
    Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)
    Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive)
    MS-DOS (FAT)
    ExFAT
I know MS-DOS(FAT) is what I should use for external to work on mac and windows.  Can't remember which to use for the internal.  I have an Intel-based Mac.
    Thanks for your help.

I use SuperDuper for cloning my OSX volumes and it does not change the size of the destination partition to the size of the source partition.
So, you can make the destination partitions size to your liking and the cloning will not change it afterwards.
Keep in mind that SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner cannot clone a BootCamp Windows partition to a new harddisk, only OSX partitions.
But Parallels doesn't need to have a Windows partitions but is mostly just two files plus the Parallels app on your OSX partition.
And therefor it would be cloned with the rest of the OSX.

  • I want to format my hard drive so i can have files bigger than 4GB what format should I use?

I have a new hard drive that I want to format so it will work with both mac and PC (windows) but I have files that are bigger than 4GB, what format should I use?
It needs to work with both PC and mac because I need to go between two computers etc

If both of these computers are connect to the same router, both are in your home or place of work (Both are in the same location), it is very easy to Network them so you don't have to use DropBox or the external drive to share files between them.

  • What method should be used for resizing the particular JTable Column width

I have a four table. Only one table which are on top have a table header. I want that when user resize the topmost table with a mouse other table colume also be resized automatically. So I want to know that what method should be used for resizing the particular JTable Column width.
    Thanks
    Lalit

maybe you can implement a interface ComponentListener as well as ComponentAdapter with your topmost Table.
    for example:
    toptable.addComponentListener(
    new ComponentAdapter(){
    public void componentResized(ComponentEvent e){
    table1.setSize(....);
    table2.setSize(....);
/*Optionally, you must also call function revalidate
    anywhere;*/
    );

  • What setting should I use for Abbey Road drums?  Getting a cpu overload issue

What setting should I use for Abbey Road drums (i.e. multi-output, stereo, etc)?  Getting a cpu overload issue.  I have a macbook pro, 4 gb ram, running Logic Pro 9.  Just 3 tracks of drums and a few real instrument tracks.  Can't find a guide in the manual for either Kontakt or Logic.  Thanks in advance!

    Hi
AR drums are complete resource (CPU) hogs. They work better if you turn off as many of the AR internal plugins as you can.
See section 4 (?) of the AR manual, which you can find within Kontakt (In the library area of Kontakt click hold the small "i" on the right of the "AR drummer" Library).
Alternatively, your only solution is to increase the I/O buffer in Preferences:Audio, with the associated increase in latency

  • What t_code should be used for migration?

    Hello there,
our user wants to  migrate  "output vat" account after being audited.
actually , they start using SAP from 1st. January.2009 but now needs to migrate for reconciliation purpose.
Journal should be 40) output VAT   /      50) Beginning Balance-BS.
Since this output VAT does not need any tax code and base amount, i think normal FI transaction like F-02 is not an answer.
Furthermore, LSMW is not strongly recommended at this time, considering line item to be created.
Could you let me know what t_code should be used for this case?

    Hi
Note down the G/L accounts you are posting.
Option 1 :In OBD4 see the account group. change the tax category mandatory to optional field for running the lsmw. afte completion, set the status as earlier.
Option 2: goto fs00-> see the field status group.-> double click on the FSG-> see the taxes -> make the fields optional.

  • What format do I use for upcoming program?

I've been editing in SD now for 35 years and have finally made the switch to HD (it's about time!) I bought a new Sony camera and shot a program in XDCAM. I need to add some footage from an existing commercial. What format should I ask the ad agency to send me. I've been editing in CS5 for some time and am trying out CS6 and plan to buy that over the next couple days. To be honest with you, I don't even know what the native Premiere HD format is. I'm a good editor, just technically stunted.

I am interested, though, in which delivery formats to avoid for editing and those that are desirable for editing.
It does depend on a particular project.
If footages are intended for significant colour correction, pulling a key or time remapping etc., shoot as uncompressed as you can.
In the rest cases you can enjoy smaller disk space occupied by highly compressed footages (e.g. AVCHD ones).
And a couple of words regard to transcoding.
Depending on your spec, transcoding may yield significant time savings in some workflows (e.g. when it is necessary to render the Timeline several times). However, since PrPro is capable of upsampling highly compressed footages 'on the fly', placing them into 32 bit colour space, transcoding doesn't give any advantages in terms of quality (check out this thread and run your own tests if you want).

  • What format should I use to archive camcorder videos.

I've seen many different variations of my question on the forums, but nothing answering all my questions. So, here goes.
I have a minidv camcorder and I've been ripping the video to dv files using imovie hd 6. I then put together the clips that should be together and tell imovie to convert those clips into one. My question is the format. I have been using dv, but for an hour minidv tape, it's over 10 gig. I then copy these dv files to my external drive and back them up with mozy.
My question is what format "should" I be archiving them to? I plan on keeping them forever of course. And there might be a day that I go to mess with them, maybe add some effects. I'm no video editor, but I'm finding that the mac has such awesome (and easy for a beginner) tools that I actually want to mess with video.
There are so many formats, but I don't want to lose quality to save hd space. If I were to convert them to mov or mpeg4, would the quality be as good. What about size, would the size be much different?
Sorry for the large post. I'm a little lost when it comes to this stuff, but I'm trying to learn.
    Thanks.

Cool, thanks. I had a feeling at least one person was going to say that, but I wanted to make sure. With the price of external hard drive's dropping like they are, and mozy being so cheap, might as well use the space and keep the quality.
    Thanks again...

Do i need to  format them to Mac os extended (journalled) as well as i shall be using macbook pro to back up these hard disks.
Which would be the best software to back up these Ext hdd,can i use time machine? or CCC ?
Your help help shall be gretaly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Get Disk Warrior that will repair the problems without requiring that you reformat the drive - $99.00 on a bootable CD. Will not work on a FAT formatted drive.
You will need to use Drag and Drop to save your files by copying them from the bad drive to a good one.
    To reprep the drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • What file formats should I use for maps?

I've come to the IL forum simply because of the number of file formats IL will process.  My question however is more generic to file formats.
I work with a large local county government (just as a citizen) and one of the projects we're working on is to get a full suite of maps (and other GIS output) for distribution.  Although they will be made available online, the intent is to print/plot.
For some maps, we'll want to have the capability to add vector graphics (ovals, rectangles, text, arrows) for highlighting.
The intent is for the county to provide machine readable GIS output so that we can do our own printing (via Kinkos for example).  We'll also be putting the maps online although only for simple viewing and downloads.
What file format(s) should I ask to have the map sets in?
Because I'm a novice when it comes to understand which format to ask for I've done some homework on jpg, tiff, gif, etc.  I think IL will take in any of them and that's where any vector graphics would be added (for print destined output).  I also have FW which could be used for web destined output if needed.
What is most important is the quality of the printed output so I'm assuming dpi is going to be important.  I'm also assuming that we'll ask for the output to be intended for a rather large plot (e.g. 36" x 48" or perhaps even larger) even though we may not actually produce a map of that size.  For what I've learned on this and other Adobe forums, no matter what file size and format we get, printing to larger paper will eventually lose visible resolution thus the intent to start with the largest we'd ever print.  We might have circumstances where we would crop but again understand what can happen when blowing those up.
One option, of course, is to have the county produce PDFs.  Is that a good idea for our purpose meaning do we lose anything to have the file format generally acceptable?  I'm assuming somewhere along the process we'll need to produce pdfs for downloads but that may not be the best format to get from the GIS output.
Keep in mind that we don't have GIS software at present.  In the future we may move to using a GIS viewer which would mean we would have file generation capabilities, but for now, we're going to have to handle non-gis output files.
I'm not even sure I'm asking the question well so feel free to educate me along the way.  I'm interested in learning.
    Tom

(pricy)  I know that may sound strange given having CS2,
    Yep. Sure does. Plus:
So in comparing prices, be sure to include the costs of the third-party plug-in route, such as MAPublisher (and the associated headaches of mission-critical dependence upon third-party add-ons in general).
Since IL can take in pdfs and can add vector markup
Working with PDFs is pretty much universal these days, for practical purposes.
Understand this about PDFs and Illustrator: Illustrator's Save As...PDF dialog provides an option for "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities." Selecting that option actually embeds in the resulting file a full duplication of the file as native Illustrator objects. That results in very bloated PDF file sizes--because they contain two full copies of the file.
That's not what you want to do for PDFs that will be distributed/downloaded. So you're going to want to keep your AI-native files separate anyway. Opening a PDF that was saved without that option turned on in Illustrator is pretty much the same thing as opening it other mainstream drawing progams. So the "seamlessness" of PDF/Illustrator is really much about marketing.
But no matter. Your mind is already made up to use AI for this. If it were me, I'd be exploring all options.
