Its a matter of how you enter the formula (and not entirely intuitive). Do NOT manually add any quotes - Number does that for you. Just leave the text area blank for boolean value. If you actually type in the quotes, it reads them as a text value.

    I am using Numbers to manage big amount of datas.
    With the latest Numbers version I can copy and paste in the same/between Numbers documents but the paste doesn't work outside Numbers.
    Try do do a table with 4000 rows, fill the cells of one column with something -one char is enough-, copy the column and let me know if someone is able to paste the copied datas outside Numbers. The copy and paste works with 3999 rows.
    BTW: with 2 columns I am able to copy/paste 1999 rows. Copying 3 columns, 1334 rows can be moved. …4 columns? 999 rows!
    The number of chars copied is insignificant. Ah! Excelling...oops outranging the above limits the paste command, in the target app, is greyed out.
    What am I missing?

  • Automatically Filling Cells in Numbers

    I need help. I thought I might be able to figure this out myself, but it's beyond me. I'm not even sure if I'm using the right terminology, so here's what I want to do in plain English:
    In a simple invoice table, I want to be able to type in my product number in one cell and have the product description and unit price fill in automatically in adjacent cells. I assume I'll have to have a sheet with this product numbers, descriptions and unit prices on another sheet to reference.
    Advice? If you've done this, can you tell me how or send me your form so I can copy what you've done?

    What you need is to use the VLOOKUP function.
    Many examples where already posted.
    Search in the existing threads with the keyword VLOOKUP to get them.

    Right, am I being thick or has numbers changed??
    I'm trying to copy a figure in one column to several rows below it,
    eg:  A1 reading £20 to A15 all reading £20
    I did this before by going to the bottom right hand corner of the cell and dragging it down the column
    doesn't work now.
    Anybody got a solution?

    Yes, Rob, the corner handles of a selection are now dregged to extend the selection and the middles are dragged to Fill.
    You may find the corners are still useful bacause there are some addresses that can't be typed into expressions due to the auto-completion of function names and the confustion that results when you type a cell address that begins with the same letter as a function name. (A bit of a bug.)

    For sure, this question was asked and responded several times.
    If every existing standard cells of a column contain the same formula, inserting a new row inserts automatically the same formula in the newly created cell of this column.

    and I would like it if it will automatic round up an give me the number 15 in this case.

    If I often urge askers to look at the available resources, it's because  a large range of questions asked in the forums are already answered in these documents.
    As they are PDFs, they are easy to search in.

    Download them while they are available.
    Given what is delivered with iBooks Author, I'm afraid that we will not get such easy to use documents.
    Searching infos in the  iBooks Author documentation available on line is awfully cumbersome and a lot of embedded links are wrongly flagged this way. In the Help files they aren't links but underlined strings.
    It seems that the tool used to generate the web pages was wrongly configured.

    Ok... I see your problem... when pasting into Pages, the formulas from Numbers are included. Perhaps this is really more of a Pages question (in which case I'm far from expert). A couple of ideas:
    • In Pages, try "Edit"/"Paste and Match Style", which may insert tab delimited cell values (no formulas). Then, if you want the table format back, select these newly pasted tabbed values and use Page's "Format"/"Table"/"Convert Text to Table"/
    • In Numbers, before copying, make a temporary table of the plain values first, then copy and paste that into Pages. To do this, select the range of cells you desire in the Numbers and "Edit"/"Copy". Then "Edit"/"Deselect All" and "Edit"/"Paste Values" and "Edit"/"Cut". Now just a table of values is on the clipboard and you can head over to Pages to paste.

    Whoever told you that was misinformed or lying. Those applications are sold separately for the iOS platform and the Mac platform.
    Go to the Mac App Store to purchase Pages and Numbers for your Mac. They're $20 each. If you are running an older version of Mac OS X that can't use the Mac App Store, you can purchase install media from Apple.

    After updating numbers and pages I can no longer copy multiple cells from numbers and paste and match style to pages.  I used to be able to select multipule cells in a row (such as company name, address, etc.) then paste and match style on to a pages letter. I found the paste and match style option in the edit menu, however it will only work one cell at a time. Before the update is was working great.

    For diagnosing purpose thy the procedure in a new user account and see if it works there. You create a new user account in the System Preferences > Accounts. If it works in the new account it is probably a corrupt plist file that needs to be deleted.

    Thanks Wayne but it doesn't work for me. Using the above routine just copies and pastes the borders of one cell... no contents either.
    I have got around it by going into pages and pasting it there and it works beautifully. So it obviously copies both contents and borders but why wont it paste them back into numbers?

    If you've pasted the link into, say, A2, you could try, in another cell, entering

    Yes, all you database builders out there, it's a wacky way to spreadsheetize an IF, THEN, OR  statement - fortunately, I'm only working with numbers. What I want to do is replace the cell values and the "then" result numbers with references from another table. I can't just link to the specific cell by clicking (resulting in something like "<table>::<cell>") because the formula builder spits it out claiming there are too many arguments. Here is an example of what I'm getting at if you replace the first number in each statement with a cell name like "R_1" and the calculated displayed value as "V_1":
    =IF(C32≥R_1,"V_1",IF(C32≥R_2,"V_2",IF(C32≥R_3,"V_#",IF(C32≥R_4,"V_4",IF(C32≥R_5, "V_5",IF(C32≥R_6,"V_6",IF(C32≥R_7,"V_7","")))))))
    Right now, I have to manually make changes to the formula in one cell then copy it across the other cells in the different tables. I'd much rather have the formula reference specific cells in a variable table so that I can update the values globally. In the "help" for Numbers, it states:
    "If the reference is to a cell in another table, the reference must contain the name of the table (unless the cell name is unique within all tables). For example:
    =Table 2::B2
    Note that the table name and cell reference are separated by a double colon (::). The name of the table is automatically included when you select a cell in another table while building a formula.
    If the reference is to a cell in a table in another sheet, the sheet name must also be included (unless the cell name is unique within all the sheets)." (emphasis mine)
    However, I can't find any documentation to instruct me on how to create a unique cell name. Any advice?
