What happened to iDVD?

I just bought a new iMac and got the Mountain Lion update for free.
But after i uploaded it, my iDVD had a slash thru it and I was told it no longer was compatible with the OS.
How do I burn a DVD now from an iMovie project???

You can also still find the boxed DVD version of iLife '011 at places like Amazon and eBay.
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U TF8&qid=1344386331&sr=8-1&keywords=ilife+%27o9
It contains the now discountineued iDVD and iWeb.

  • What happened to idvd after installing mac osx7.5

I restored my imac and upgraded to mac os x 7.5.  I noticed that iDVD is not in the applications folder.  Now I can not open a dvd project that I was working on.

iDVD is not now nor ever has been part of OS X. It was part of iLife. You can get it back by reinstalling iLife from your iLife DVD or from the original discs that came with your computer.

  • What happened to share slideshow to iDVD option?

What happened to the "share slideshow to iDVD" option?  Anyone know a fix?

    1. Why take away a feature that makes compatability between programs easier???
Because no new Mac has had iDVD for a few years now. It would confuse people to see a command that they can't use, is my guess. But

  • What happened to iWeb and iDvD?

    Hello,
I was watching the Steve's keynotes when I came to know that Apple had a iWeb application where you can create webpages. Apple doesn't lose complete functionality of a particular application unless they found an entirely better way of doing that job.
like iCloud as a replacement for mobileMe. What happened to iWeb and iDVD? Are there any latest substitutes for them. Is there any Apple software which can help me make web pages and stuff??

If you plan on using iDVD at some time and don't have it currently get a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com.
    Why 09 instead of 11:
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • What happens to iweb-built site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3), and subsequently upgrade to 10.6.8 or even 10.7? Will fonts stay the same? Will layout change? Or anything else change? Thanks

What happens to iweb-build site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) and subsequently update that to 10.6.8 or even to 10.7? Evidently iweb has been discontinued. I have version 3.0.3 of iweb now but understand that there's been an update for OS 10.6 so same question goes for this update.
Will fonts change? Will layout change? Will widgets still work? Links? Will Google Analytics PlugIn still work?
(Since MobileMe is disappearing, I now save iweb site to local folder on my computer, then upload it to GoDaddy using Cyberduck. I run Google Analytics plug in on folder before its uploaded.)
My computer, MacBook Pro came with iweb, which has been updated to 3.0.3. Since iweb is discontinued, will upgrade of operating system just ignore iweb so that iweb will run the same as before? Or will it wipe it out? Or change how it currently works (questions above).
    Thanks

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • How do I install iLife 8 and what happens to all my old projects?

I want to buy and install iLife 8 but as I have never upgraded to a new version before I don't know how you do this (apart from purchasing it of course).
Step by step, how do you install the disc?
What happens to all my existing and work in progress iMovie and iDVD projects? Can I continue to work on them or should I wait until I have finished them before upgrading?

If you have a book started in iPhoto 6 then you might want to make a backup copy of the library and the application as some book themes are not included in iPhoto 7. iPhoto 7 will continue to work with that theme but if you switch to another to see what it looks like you can't go back. Another approach is to make a copy of the book in iPhoto 6 for backup just in case, select it and type Command-D.
It apperars that the new large hardcover books have printed dust jackets with the cover photo instead of the photo on the hard cover.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • ILife '08 What happens to '06 apps at install?

I installed iWork '08 and it specifically says that iWork '06 would be left intact and that is exactly the case.
iLife '08 has no such caveat about '06. What happens to the '06 versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb and iDVD? And if they are overwritten can they be preserved by temporarily dragging them out of the Application folder prior to installation of '08 and then back with something like '06 appended to preserve the distinction? My concern is specifically for iMovie and iDVD based on some of the forums posts.
    Thanks!

Yes. I always repair permissions before and after an install and check for updates. iDVD opened fine from the install. But after I downloaded 302MB of "Themes" iDVD started to immediately quit at startup. Trashed plists etc. No change. Reinstalled only iDVD from disk. All OK. Hope it stays that way. Thanks again.

  • What format for iDVD?

I'm using AE CS4.  I render out QT with"None" as the compressor for my 2minute motiion graphic.  It looks great.  Turns out that iDVD doesn't see it! And when I open it in Quicktime the attributes panel says it has no video track!  It's got something because it's over a GB.
What is the best quality that iDVD will accept?
Or should I change my process? I want to avoid re-compressing and losing quality.  Do I misunderstand something??
    Thanks for answering this question
    JL
    MacbookPro, iDVD 7 (iLife09), AE CS4

The way I've understood the process - the bigger the file the better
looking the outcome but I will gladly try Animation and PNG.
There are many cases where this is true, and others where the file size to quality ratio is not so obvious.
Animation and PNG are identical to "None" at a fraction of the file size, because they use lossless data shrinking techniques while keeping the image quality untouched. People who are concerned with these things, test this by overlaying (say) a PNG-encoded file on top of a None file and check if they are identical when performing a difference operation. This is why Animation and PNG are considered mathematically lossless.
Just to make sure - I need some clarification please - you said:
"They actually loose a rather lossy compression scheme, MPEG-2 video at a rather low datarate."
    Did
you mean "They actually USE..." or is there something else ?  Your
explanation was so helpful I wouldn't want to misunderstand any of it.
Yes, sorry. I meant they actually USE
That's what happens when you type this fast.

  • What happened to iLife?

I want to purchase a newer version of iLife. I currently use iLife '08. Here's the problem: I can't find iLife in the Mac App Store OR in the Apple Store online. What happened to iLife? Where is it?

Remember, the good stuff is always on disk.
The below will include a copy of the highly coveted iDVD.
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U TF8&qid=1329608391&sr=8-1

  • What happened to all the Fetaures!!!??

What happened to all of the video effects that you used to be able to use? It seems that all you can do now is make a plain old video. Boring.
Hey apple what did you do that for?! Usually software gets better in new versions but this is a huge step back! Maybe i just can't find them but that's just as bad. if they are there they should be easy to find (thogh I don't think they are.)
I'm losing some respect for apple because of stunts like this.

I still don't know why they had to dumb down the program so people could post little movies...you can still do that with the original iMovie.
Apple had found that many iLife users were not using iMovie, some would argue that iMovie 06 became "too good". Others will say that many of the features of iMovie 06 made it hard for beginners to learn, so iMovie 08 is usually easier for the absolute beginner.
When iLife 08 is installed, all of the old applications are automatically deleted EXCEPT iMovie 06, because Apple WANTS you to have it. Most owners of iLife 08 I know use iMovie 06. (I use both iMovie 08 and iMovie 06.)
If you like iMovie 06 better, as many do, you can continue to use it. I find that it works perfectly with my Mac Pro and the latest Mac OS.
The Web site below has a good comparison of Apple video products.
    http://www.geethree.com/slick/imovie8.html
iMovie 06 is a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 is a terrific combination.

  • What happened to iMovie?

    What happened to iMovie?
I'm actually a FCP user who would very often use iMove to do very quick and intuitive creative work.
I still have my G5 with iMove 4 installed and I recently started exploring the newest version of iMovie 7.1 on my MacBook Pro.
I don't get it! iMovie was an amazingly intuitive program. Now it's barely usable... very PC-ish.
Everything right down to basic project management is very clumsy and unlike a mac application.
    What a shame.
I know I don't have any right to complain about a program which is basically free but usually products become better as they evolve.
I haven't been to this forum in years. Has anyone else found that the new version of iMovie is much more difficult and unintuitive than versions up to iMovie HD 6?
    best,
    g

I do a lot of work using imovie. I edit football videos in hd for a local high school team. I started using the old version of imovie and digital 8 tapes (obviously not in hd). I still use the old imovie only with a new hd camera (60 gig internal hard drive). I bought the new version of imovie and was very disappointed with it.
The old version of imovie was a perfect fit for me. High school football videos, the way the coaches want them, tend to be about 50 minutes long. I was able to use the chapters option to make it easy for the coaches to go to a particular quarter and watch the game or start from the beginning and just run the entire game. And it looked great.
The new version is very difficult to use on anything over 10 minutes. It is very frustrating dragging clips from the events screen to the projects screen. It was not able to create chapters. The only option I had available for the coaches was to make separate projects for each quarter. The big disadvantage being not able to start the game from the beginning and let it run to the end of the game. The ultimate problem is the amount of time it takes to create an idvd project from the current imovie. Using the media browser to create the movie into a form idvd can use is long, and probably adds 2x (and then some) the normal time to make a dvd.
The new version is fine for the shorter films. It has very good looking graphics for titles etc. However, all else being equal, I use the old imovie at this point. Too many advantages for using the old imovie. Easy to use, chapters, less time to create an idvd project etc. The coaches usually want their game dvd's by the next day at noon. I can do this using the old imovie. Not so with the current imovie.
I would not be a supporter of the current imovie.
If anyone at apple reads this post, please add this to the large number of people who have expressed dissatisfaction with the current imovie.
I hope this helps you with your problem

  • What happens when we go to iCloud?

What happens to iweb when we go iCloud?

It is now is apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.  iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:

There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
I would imagine that iWeb and iDVD will be dropped from future boxed versions of iLife if there are boxed versions. However, there may be some copies of the boxed iLife 11 still on the shelves that would include iWeb and iDVD.  Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
iWeb 3 has a built in ftp client that will let you upload to an 3rd party host as easitly as it publishes to MobileMe Now.  There are times when that client has problems for some so the use of a 3rd party ftp client would be necessary.  The free  Cyberduck is a good client.

  • What happens on iCloud (ex. contacts) when multiple family members use the same Apple ID?

What happens on iCloud when multiple family members use the same Apple ID?  For example if we all choose to use iCloud for contacts, are they all merged together?  We use the same Apple ID so we can use find my iPhone to keep track of the whole family.

Of course if you are both connected to the same iCloud account you have the same contacts - what did you expect?. The contacts live on the server and are read from there by the devices; so as you've both managed to sync your contacts up to iCloud they are now inextricably mixed. You can only delete your contacts by deleting individual ones, and doing that will delete them from your phone as well.
You can only unravel this by
    1. In the iCloud contacts page at http://icloud.com, select all the contacts, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
    2. Sign out of System Preferences>iCloud
    3. Create a new Apple ID and open a new iCloud account with it for your own use.
    4. Import the vCard back into the iCloud contacts page.
    5. Go to http://icloud.com and sign in with the original ID. This is now his ID. Work through the contacts individually deleting the ones you don't want him to have. When done sign out and advise him to change his password.
    6. Go to the new iCloud account and delete his contacts individually.
Of course if you have also been syncing calendars and using the same email address there are problems with doing this.

  • What happens to the open item in bsid table when it is cleared

    hi experts,
i have a doubt about open and cleared items of accounting documents. as we know open items of customers are stored in bsid and cleared ones in bsad. For suupose, an open item is closed ina particular period then what happened to the entry in bsid and bsad table. an entry regarding is stored in bsad (cleared),and what happens to the entry in bsid, still it will be there or removed from it.

    Hi,
When ever we clear the document(Complete payment) that document will be moved to BSAD table. Other wise it will remain in BSID.
If u are making partial payment then all the partial payment documents along with original document will be stored in BSID till u made the complete payment for that invoice.
Assumption is u have to give all partial payment documents made for particular invoice item while u are making complete payment in F-28 transaction. So that these partail payment documents will also be cleared while making complete payment and moved to BSAD table.
This trasaction can be used for both partial and complete payments.
Irrespective of complete or partial payments made all the documents will remain stored in BKPF and BSEG tables.
BSID and BSAD are index tables to address performance issues with BKPF and BSEG tables.
So all open and cleared documents will be there in BKPF and BSEG tables.
All cleared documents will be there in BSAD table.
Alll open documents will be there in BSID table.
    Hope it is clear.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.
