What happened to my pictures on iphoto?

I have over 7,000 pictures in iphoto and I was putting some pictures into rolls that are of the same picture (as a group) so I could load them onto a dvd. And also renaming the rolls as what it is in that roll. I have been working on this for about three hours now. And didn't stop to take a break. Anyways, a black screen came up as I was in the middle of it and it said I had to restart my computer. Either, hitting restart or holding the button on the computer for a few seconds. Well, I couldn't even move my mouse, so I had to hit the button on the computer. Now, when I went to go see if it did anything to my pictures, the pictures I was just messing with aren't there. They come up as a gray box with a "!" in them. All the other pictures are there besides the one's I just did maybe 10 mins before. What happened to them and can I get them back?
Also, This happened like a couple of months ago. Some of my pictures are messed up. Like if you click on the photo it's a whole different photo compared to the one that shows up in the library section. Any ideas of what that is?

1 - you are posting in the iPhoto '09 forum and talking about rolls that have not existed since iPhoto 6. What version do you have?
2 - for iPhoto '09 depress the options and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild the library from the last automatic database backup

I can't tell you anything about the iPhoto app. I still have the iPad original. My guess would be - no it does not - you probably save the edited photo to the camera roll - but that is just a guess. But I can tell you that you cannot delete the preinstalled Photos App. you can't delete any of the preinstalled apps.
Someone will be along to verify if the iPhoto app actually saves a copy in the app itself.

I can see thumbnails of my pics in iphoto but when I try to access them I get a black screen with a circle and a exclamation point in the middle. This has happened before and I had to take it to be worked on. I was told it is a virus but there is nothing about virus on apples site. What is a person to do with a virus that Apple doesn't acknowledge?

Whoever told you it was a virus before didn't know what they were talking about. There is no Mac malware that does (or did) that.
As to what has caused the problem, it sounds like the original photos have been deleted from the iPhoto library somehow. The thumbnails are still there, but the originals are gone, so the full-size version cannot be viewed. You will probably need to restore those photos from backups... do you have backups?
If you don't have backups, I'm not an iPhoto expert, so I don't know what the most common causes for this might be or whether there might be other solutions. You should try posting in the iPhoto forum.

What happened to my pictures after upgrade?

I did the upgrade, now my picture are out of order and only have the backup photos and some of them are missing. What do I do to get my photos back? Some day I will learn not to do the upgrades always screws something up.

If you have proof of the configuration you ordered and you did not get it, I would call HP and ask them to just send a 320 gig hard drive (lowest cost resolution) or contact your local State Atty General or Better Business Bureau if HP refuses to help. There is not much more to say.

I'm referring to the little calendar in the lower left of the window that allowed you to filter on a particular year, month, day... or see what days had photos taken on them... etc.

Ah, that took me a little while to figure out, too. It has been integrated into the search box at the bottom of the window. Click on the magnifying glass, and select "Date" from the popup. That will bring the calendar back.

What happened to facebook exporter for iphoto?

I keep getting an error when trying to share photos from iphoto to facebook. I have tried all the common things, but now I see that there is no longer facebook exporter for iphoto. I have had this Macbook Air since May, and was able to share photos via iphoto exporter to facebook, and now all of a sudden it is not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had Iphoto exporter plugin installed previously and it would show up on file-export as an option. Then mysteriously it was gone as an option. I tried to download the plugin again from Cnet and when I try to install it I get and error saying "It can't be opened because of an inidentified developer my security preferences only allow installation of only apps from your Mac app store and identified developers"
How do I turn off that security so I can reinstall it again. As for why my original install disappeared I am mystified about that. Why was it there one month and then poof gone the next month?
I like that 3rd party plugin as it lets me caption all the photo's and rearrange the order and write a discription all in one application. It works better than the share button way of doing it to facebook.

I thought I was backing up my pictures and felt very happy when the brand new iphone malfunctioned. ... so I restored from icloud on the new replacment phone and voila .... lost all my picutres ......
WOW!!!

Are the photos on the SD card? If they are, copy them to your laptop (copy the whole SD card, to be safe) and then you need to reformat the card for the new phone. Reformatting will erase everything (which is why I said to copy it all to your computer!). Once it's reformatted, you can then put the contents from the backup copy you made into the newly created folders on the reformatted card.
Each phone creates folders for music, photos, etc and formats things differently, so using the same card in a new phone sometimes takes a bit of juggling to get it all working again.
If the photos are stored in the "cloud" (Google + backup) then it may just take time to sync them all back to your phone.

What happens to my MobileMe Gallery when I switch to iCloud?

I have about 20 picture folders in my MobileMe Gallery.
1. What happens to those pictures when I switch to iCloud? Do I need to manually download each folder and then reload them to iCloud?
2. Gallery had a nice option of making some folders public and others private - does anyone know if this option exists in the iCloud photostream?
3. I currently have a PC (ugh! - saving to get a MAC) running Windows XP Pro - am I correct that Photostream will not work with my PC?

If you have an iPhone 4 or 4s, an iPad 2 or newer you could download iPhoto for iOS; import your albums onto the devices and use the Journal function to create a journal and post it to iCloud for friends to see. It even allows you to announce to your friends and family the new post. The images look as if they are posted on a bulletin board. After selecting an image, the view can manually view the next image by pressing the next button or view all of them in a slideshow.

iCloud is not a file storage system (dropbox is)

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened? Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..
