What is an Instance in SAP?

Dear,
What is an Instance in SAP?
Thanx and Regards,
Mohammad Nabi

hi,
Instances
SAP instances are defined during the installation of the SAP system.
The term “instance” is often used synonymously with “server” or “application server” in the SAP system. This depends on the selected installation environment. You can install multiple instances on one application server.
An SAP instance defines a group of resources such as memory, work processes and so on, usually in support of a single application server or database server within a client/server environment. Application servers share the same memory areas and are controlled by the same dispatcher process.
An SAP instance is handled by CCMS as a unit. A user logs on to the SAP system using an instance.
An SAP system can consist of one or more instances, such as an SAP system with a single instance with only one central server or a client/server system with two or more separate instances.
For each SAP instance:
·        Separate directories are defined on the UNIX, AS/400, or Microsoft Windows NT server on which the instance is to run
·        Shared file systems can be used
·        Entries are created in operating system configuration files (/etc/services, /etc/sapconfig...)
·        Communication entries are created in the host
·        Start and system profiles are created
·        Operating system users are installed

  • Install a Test/Dev instance for SAP MII.

    Hi,
I want to install a test/development instance for SAP MII on my laptop [2 GB RAM].
Per my understanding, for this i would need set up SAP NetWeaver CE instance and deploy SAP MII 12.1 component.
I also want do some custom development & integration with SAP through MII to SAP ME.
As per Master Guide SAP MII 12.1.pdf, we need to Install SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 EHP1 SP03.
Since its a test/development instance can i install [SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.2 Developer Edition|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/downloads?rid=/library/uuid/a0a6bd7b-3dfc-2c10-eb95-aae0f777d4ab] and deploy MII.?
Or do i need to have some specific version of Netweaver CE.
Please let me know what are steps to install a Test/Dev environment for SAP ME/MII integration..
    Please advice.
    Thanks un advance.

MII 12.1 has not been validated on NWCE 7.2.  And MII 12.2 is validated on NW 7.3, skipping NWCE 7.2.  It may install fine, but you will most likely run into problems executing some of the functions and features of MII.

  • Stock Transfer between 2 different instances of SAP

    Hi for all,
I want to know if anyone has any documentation about how to do a Stock transfer between 2 different instances of SAP, the worst part that I think is how to see a plant from one SAP to another, any collaboration will be appreciate.

I still don't see the difference between what you are telling me and the material i handled to you....
This material exactly describes the case where you have to wharehouse working in whatever ERP systems at the same time.
The ALE configurations are only one step between them.
The idoc types for purchasing are ORDERS, ORDRCHG,ORDRRSP, Quotes
    For LE are Desadv,Shpmnt
    Processo

  • What is central instance..........

    hi,
I am new to the SAP . i want information about what is central instance and dialog instance. what are their roles in SAP System.
    Regards,
    sridhar M

    Hi Sridhar
Though your question looks simple but i suggest to read following  link
             http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/sapadm/chapter/ch01.html
The central instance is a combination of hardware and software. It contains a physical server (the application server) and numerous software components, including a message server, a database gateway (a pre-established connection between SAP and Oracle--or another database), and various update, enqueue, dialog, and spool facility software. In most generic SAP architectures, there are numerous application servers but only a single central instance. However, in addition to managing the SAP interfaces, the central instance can also serve as an application server.
    hope its fine.
    Thanks..

  • What is Database instance

    Hi
i just clarified my doubt in central instance !!1
Can any one tell what is database instance ?
    Regards
    sanjeev

    Hi
The database instance is a mandatory instance for the installation of an SAP system. The SAP system usage types AS ABAP and AS Java use their own database schema in the same database. It contains all the database related services.
You have a database now sap instance creates a schema on that database and uses this schema for its operations.

  • What is run time in SAP XI?

    hi friends
what is run time in SAP XI?

    Hi Kumar,
SAP Exchange Infrastructureruntime consists of a series of components:
    ·        The Integration Engine executes the integration logic of the Integration Server and converts messaging (of the Integration Server or application systems).
    ·        The proxy runtime uses proxies to exchange messages with the Integration Server. This section addresses the programming model for ABAP and Java proxies.
    ·        The Adapter Engine uses the RFC adapter and external adapters to exchange messages with the Integration Server.
    ·        The respective adapters are either connected using the Adapter Engine or run independently (for instance, the IDoc adapter and the plain HTTP adapter).
    ·        Central monitoring monitors XI runtime components, the message flow, and the performance.

  • What is the diffrence between sap events and application events

    Hi all,
what is the diffrence between sap events and application events. Can any one tell me with examples.
    regards,

    Hi,
    Look at this,
    <b>System Events (Default)</b>
The event is passed to the application server, but does not trigger the PAI. If you have registered an event handler method in your ABAP program for the event (using the SET HANDLER statement), this method is executed on the application server.
Within the event handler method, you can use the static method SET_NEW_OK_CODE of the global class CL_GUI_CFW to set a function code and trigger the PAI event yourself. After the PAI has been processed, the PBO event of the next screen is triggered.
The advantage of using this technique is that the event handler method is executed automatically and there are no conflicts with the automatic input checks associated with the screen. The disadvantage is that the contents of the screen fields are not transported to the program, which means that obsolete values could appear on the next screen. You can work around this by using the SET_NEW_OK_CODE method to trigger field transport and the PAI event after the event handler has finished.
    <b>Application Events</b>
The event is passed to the application server, and triggers the PAI. The function code that you pass contains an internal identifier. You do not have to evaluate this in your ABAP program. Instead, if you want to handle the event, you must include a method call in a PAI dialog module for the static method DISPATCH of the global class CL_GUI_CFW. If you have defined an event handler method in your ABAP program for the event (using the SET HANDLER statement), the DISPATCH method calls it. After the event handler has been processed, control returns to the PAI event after the DISPATCH statement and PAI processing continues.
The advantage of this is that you can specify yourself the point at which the event is handled, and the contents of the screen fields are transported to the application server beforehand. The disadvantage is that this kind of event handling can lead to conflicts with the automatic input checks on the screen, causing events to be lost.
    Hope u understood.

  • What is the diffrence between SAP View and CAD View ?

What is the diffrence between SAP View and CAD View ?
What is the main purpose of SAP View
    and
What is the main purpose of CAD View
    On SAP help i found
SAP View is used for :The SAP view displays the SAP structure (document-based structure) for the active CAD object, or another document info record (header document), with a single-level or multilevel document structure in a tree structure. You can variably configure the fields using the layout editor.
CAD View is used for :The CAD view displays the document-based structure of the currently active CAD object, such as the structure of an assembly. The CAD system determines the complete (multilevel) structure and copies it either completely or in stages to the SAP system, in accordance with the default explosion level.
BUT I did not understand it well
Can someone explain this with an example
    THanks
    Raj

    Hello Raj,
SAP View  can be further described as the view that is based on what is existing already in the SAP system. This view is generally used by SAP purchasing, MM people etc
CAD view is nothing but the replication of the model tree view in the SAP system. This is used by the design engineer and this view replicates only the parts that are actively displayed on the CAD tool window.
hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions else please close the message.

We need to know if application developed and transported from PI7.1 is
    compatible with EHP1?
Below are the Components used by the application .
    1) SSL communication using SOAP adapter
    2) Java mapping , Graphical mapping , XSLT mapping
    3) Customised EJB modules
    4) Adapter framework
    5) ALE layer for IDoc communication from ERP to PI
    6) RFC lookups to PI system and ERP system.
    Questions
1)Will PI EHP1 be able to communicate with PI7.1 using SOAP adapter ?
    2) What is the difference between SAP NW PI7.1 and PI7.1 EHP1 ?

    Hi,
    EHP Pi7.1 new
IPv6 Support in SAP Systems (new)
Async/Sync and Sync/Async Bridge in the JMS Adapter (New)
High Availability (New)   Locate the document in its SAP Library structure
    Use
A new concept is available for setting up a high availability environment for SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI). To do this, you need SAP Web Dispatcher for load balancing, and you must reconfigure your HTTP, RFC, and RMI connections so that they can be used for load balancing. You must also make various configuration steps in other components of your PI environment.
[Level 4: Document: XML to Text Conversion Module (New)] XML to Text Conversion Module (New)
    Message Packaging (New)
Monitoring Milestones (New)   Locate the document in its SAP Library structure
    Use
You can use the new scenario variant Monitoring Milestones of the Business Process Management scenario to define a monitoring process that can monitor events from different applications. A monitoring process can subscribe to events from SAP or non-SAP systems.

to map special characters you need to use an element called CDATA in your mapping
a special character causes an error....as XI wont be able to read it (as it is not in a proper XML format)...so to parse this character through XI without causing an eror use the CDATA....just make a search on SDN and you will find the proper use of it....
