  • Q: General : When will you use Web Service as opposed to just Servlet and/or EJB?

    Hi,
I don't know if this is an appropriate question to ask for this class as it's not
    workshop
specific. I was wondering how will I decide when it is appropriate to use a web
service as opposed to say servlet or an EJB for my application? What is a good
    rationale to use?
    Thanks,
    Sadhana

    Hi Adam,
Thanks a lot for giving such a lucid explanation of my vague question!
I understand now the difference between when to use EJBs/Servlets/Web Services.
    Thanks again!

    Hi Sadhana,
Web service versus Servlet versus EJB. Which one to use? That is a very
    good question.
EJBs should be the core desription and processing of your business rules.
    They generally
have good performance, are easy to integrate into your security set up but
    they require
access using the RMI-IIOP protocol. This means that generally EJBs are not
    accessible
outside of your firewall and their clients have to be written in Java (other
    enterprise
objects or applets or GUI applications).
Servlets often form a web-based front end to EJBs. They also have good performance,
integrate into security and only require HTTP access. This means they are
    accessible
outside your firewall and any client with a HTTP or web API can call on
    them, however,
there is no standard contract or rules for this type of interaction so you
    will need
provide direct input into development of the client.
Web services are also accessible via HTTP and so can be accessed from outside
    your
firewall. In fact, Web services internally within Workshop and WebLogic
    actually
operate by using servlets and EJBs but the main advantage is that the mechanism/contract
for interacting with the web service is a well defined standard (WSDL) and
    can actually
be registered or retreived dynamically (UDDI). Since web service standards
    are open,
most popular programming languages already provide client APIs to interact
    with them
thus freeing the web service developer from direct interaction with the
    client developer
and letting the client be developed on any platform. The penalty for this
    openness
is a small performance hit (XML translation) and a slowly maturing security
    model.
So in summary, use EJBs for business operations that have Java clients within
    your
enterprise, use servlets to provide web style access to your business operations
(like web pages) and use web services to enable automated clients that can
    be written
on any platform either inside or outside your enterprise (firewall). In
    fact, it
is common to write the EJB first and then to expose some parts of it outside
    of your
enterprise by writing a web service wrapper (maybe using the EJB controls
    that we
    saw in class).
    I hope this helps.

  • What is the difference between saving to "Documents" and "Macintosh HD" and when should you use each one?*

What is the difference between saving to "Documents" and "Macintosh HD" and when should you use each one?

When you save to the folder with the little house icon, the file is placed at
    /Users/your_user_name/
You would really have to go out of my way to save at:
(the shortcut for the Boot Drive, regardless of its name).
I am not sure how you decided that Time Machine is not saving your files. The default is for Time Machine to do incremental Backups of everything on all attached drives, except for certain temporary information in Cache files. If you have four Users, Time Machine will back them all up.
Looking at the raw Time Machine backups will tell you very little, because it does lots of its work with Hard Links, and because it does incremental backups, so only files that changed since the last Backup are saved at thet cycle. The way to determine whether Time Machine is saving things is to display the window you care about in the Finder, then invoke the "Star wars"/ "Back, back, back in time" Interface.

If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • When will you make Firefix compatible with Google tool bar?

Clicked your update in error. Now can't use Google toolbar.
When will you fix your browser

You have it backwards. Google (and other 3rd-party vendors) must make their products compatible with the browser.
    '''<u>Some Background Information</u>'''<br />
Included with every Firefox extension is a file named install.rdf. In that file is a parameter "em:maxVersion" which indicates the maximum Firefox version with which the extension '''<u>has been tested and approved by the developer</u>''' (Google, in this case). Only the developer (Google) is responsible for changing that parameter. Firefox enforces that parameter.
That said. Google and all other developers know where to find the Firefox release schedule for new versions and where to find the test versions (beta) to use to test their product. The location of the release schedule and the beta versions '''is no secret'''. Firefox 5, and all other versions, underwent several weeks of beta testing, during which third-party developers (Google) had an opportunity to do their testing and make necessary changes to make their product(s) compatible. In addition to the 4 weeks of beta testing for Firefox 5, Google has had an additional 19 days since the release of Firefox 5, to make their product compatible. '''<u>Ask Google what is keeping a compatible release from being introduced.</u>'''
'''<u>Google MAY be ceasing support for their toolbar in Firefox.</u>''' See the list of supported browsers in the following:
    '''<u>An add-on that may help</u>'''<br />
Many users have found that installing the following add-on will restore some (maybe all) functionality for Google's toolbar.

  • Switch 11 when will you update to 2015 version Adobe says is there?

Running Switch 11 with Core i3.When I load Adobe illustrator it tells me to update my video driver. It appears there is a new Intel Driver..  but Intell won't update over your customer driver version.  SO.. when will you have an updated version based on the fixed Intel driver https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/gpu-performance-preview-improvements.html#ts

Interesting:If I tried to have Windows update the driver, it would say I had the latest driver. If I tried to use Intel's Utility it said I needed to used the custom driver from the makerAcer support utility said I had the most recent driver However:Yesterday I removed the driver (toubleshooting screen brightness not working after sleep sometimes), but didn't delete it.  However when I restarted the machine and in Device Mananager told Windows to UPDATE the driver in Device Manager it said "Downloading ...." vs just installing what was already on the machine. Guess What:  Adobe Illustrator now uses the GPU for enhancements and doesn't pop the error.  Feels like there may have been a update someplace, but the version number was not incremented right so Acer Tools etc. said I had the current driver but Windows found a newer one, only after I removed the old one and had the machine on the default Windows Display Driver when I asked for the updated. Problem is fixed  Thanks

  • How to set the document date when I make a settlement of costs?

    I All,
Making a settlement cost by KO88, I can't define the document date ...
Is it equal to the system date? Or there is a way to specify it?
    Thanks
    G.Rossi

    Hey,
The document date is, by definition, the date on a physical document, such as an invoice, that you also create on the system, whose posting may be taking place at a later date. Since cost settlement postings are not based on any physical documents, there should be no reason to define the document date yourself. You will notice that the posting date will be the last day of the period for which you are carrying out the cost settlement, that is unless you do as Samir said above, which should take care of any inconveniences.

  • Firefox mac osx version does not support mac-Lion os full screen window mode. When will you bring this?

In macbook pro with lion os apple gives a full-screen-mode icon in the top right corner of the window, which will be used to open that view in different window. But firefox does not support this. Even chrome supports it.
When will you bring this feature to firefox?. Currently I am in firefox 8.0.1

No answers, but Mozilla is aware of the new release of Lion, and hopefully are working on solving some of the known issues. There are some rather formal technical discussions and reports, as mentioned in this contributors thread: [/forums/contributors/707160]

  • When will we use inner class

    hi
when will we use inner class?

JosAH basically already wrote this, but another way
to say the same thing is this. If you are writing a
class and you find it would be handy to have another
class for that class to use, you can either write a
separate class for each, or you can embed one in the
other, making it an inner class. One advantage of an
inner class is that you can meet a set of
specifications by not having an extra class. It also
makes more sense to have an inner class if it's
something that's not useful on its own.I think it is the second most important advantage of inner class
(First is: you can access the private members of the outer class)

  • Phone is using data when not in use. How do I make it stop?

My iPhone 4S is using data when not in use. Any thoughts on how to make it stop?

    Hello Oakleymp
You could always turn off cellular data in Settings to get it to stop using data while it is on standby. Another option to troubleshoot the issues is to reset all settings, go to Settings > General >Reset > Reset All Settings.

  • WHEN will you support raw files for Canon 70D in PE? This camera has been out for months!

WHEN will you support raw files for Canon 70D in PE? This camera has been out for months!

    Hi,
PSE 12 with updates or PSE 13 should support the Canon 70D.
Which version do you have and which operating system are you running on?
If you have an older version of PSE, you could use the DNG converter to convert the CR2 files to DNG files - then you can use the DNG files in PSE.

  • FOURTH TIME: After your latest upgrade, all pages SLANT with Mac OS 6.0 -- WHEN WILL YOU FIX IT? Or even reply?

Upgraded to Mac OS 10.6 because you told me FireFox would no longer support 10.5, tho I had never had a problem.
OK until you upgraded to FireFox 18 -- then all pages SLANT. Impossible to use, and have had to switch to Safari.
Your forum shows MANY with the same issue, yet no response from Mozilla. Seems like it ain't our problem but yours -- so when will you fix it????

If you are updating, might as well go all the way to .8, as it includes important security and stability updates for your mac.
