What is HADR SEEDING TEST database in High availability server?

Hi All,
Our servers belongs to HA. Now, we could see a db like "HADR SEEDING TEST"  has been created in our server. We don't know when was it created. How is it getting created and
what is it? Will it make any error if we drop this db?
Thanks,
Julie

I could find an answer for this question.
The db "HADR Seeding Test " will get created when creating an Availability Group in SQL Server 2012 using the New Availability Group Wizard in SQL Server
Management Studio.

  • High Availability for EBS Database 11gR2

    Hello Gurus,

OS - Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.7

  • Many VLFs in high availability database

    Hi,
I have a database in high availability mode with a Log file of 16GB. Running DBCC SQLPERF (LOGSPACE) reveals that only 0.03% of the file is used. So I'd like to shrink the file. I performed full and transaction backups and tried to shrink, but nothing happens.
I executed DBCC OPENTRAN but no transaction is open on the DB. Executing SELECT name,log_reuse_wait_desc FROM sys.databases; returns "NOTHING". But If I run DBCC LOGINFO I see 320 Virtual log files, with about 200 being marked with STATUS 2 (not
    reusabale).
Looking at the Always-on availability dashboard shows that replication is fine.
Does somebody know why these VLFs are marked as such?
    Thanks

with about 200 being marked with STATUS 2 (not reusabale).
No need to worry about this, you can read below link
    http://blog.moserit.com/virtual-log-file-monitoring-with-dbcc-loginfo-in-alwayson
Though we mark the log records as available for cleanup, the actual process of cleaning up is deferred.  Since the new available space is tracked but the VLFs themselves are not
yet marked as inactive it is not reported as such by DBCC LOGINFO directly.  The other commands such as DBCC SQLPERF(‘LOGSPACE’) accurately report the free space since they include the VLFs marked for deferred cleanup when accounting for space.
There is, unfortunately, no equivalent of the DBCC LOGINFO currently that can track VLFs marked for deferred cleanup.

  • SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) 2012 High Availability Solution in Azure VM

I have been testing an AlwaysOn high availability failover solution in SQL Server Enterprise on an Azure VM, and this works pretty well as a failover for SQL Server Databases, but I also need a high availability solution for SQL Server
Analysis Server, and so far I haven't found a way to do this.  I can load balance it between two machines, but this isn't working as a failover and because of the restriction of not being able to use shared storage in a Failover Cluster in Azure
VM's, I can't set it up as a cluster which is required for AlwaysOn in Analysis Services.
Anyone else found a solution to use an AlwaysOn High Availability for SQL Analysis Services in Azure VM?  As my databases are read-only, I would be satisfied with even just a solution that would sync the OLAP databases and switch
the data connection to the same server as the SQL databases.
    Thanks!
    Bill

    Bill,
So, what you need is a model like SQL Server failover cluster instances. (before sql server 2012)
In SQL Server 2012, AlwaysOn replaces SQL Server failover cluster, and it has been seperated to
AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances (SQL Server) and
    AlwaysOn Availability Groups (SQL Server).
Since your requirement is not in database level, I think the best option is to use AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances (SQL Server).
As part of the SQL Server AlwaysOn offering, AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances leverages Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) functionality to provide local high availability through redundancy at the server-instance level—a
failover cluster instance (FCI). An FCI is a single instance of SQL Server that is installed across Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) nodes and, possibly, across multiple subnets. On the network, an FCI appears to be an instance of SQL
Server running on a single computer, but the FCI provides failover from one WSFC node to another if the current node becomes unavailable.
It is similar to SQL Server failover cluster in SQL 2008 R2 and before.

  • Two WLC 5508 Anchor High Availability

    Hello.
It's possible use 2 WLC 5508 en ANCHOR MODE in a Active-Active scenario?.
For example, if one WLC get down of service, the other one keep provide service to the anchor clients?.
In this moment we have just one WLC 5508 in Anchor Mode. What i need to configure a ANCHOR high Availability.
    Thanks A lot!!!

    This is confusing to me:
If we install a second Anchor WLC, what you recommend about the DHCP server in a failover event, because this second ANCHOR WLC will have the same configuration of the firts anchor wlc.
What do you mean the two will have the same configuration?  The hostname and ip should be different.... or are you just stating that the WLAN and DHCP will be the same?  I don't want to tell you something and break your environment, so just trying to clear things up.
    Thanks,

  • 2012 R2 - Clustering High Availability File Server

    Hi All
What's the difference between creating a High Availability Virtual Machine to use as a File Server and creating a 'File Server for general use' in the High Availability Wizard?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi All
What's the difference between creating a High Availability Virtual Machine to use as a File Server and creating a 'File Server for general use' in the High Availability Wizard?
    Thanks in advance.
What's your goal? If you want to have file server with no service interruption then you need generic SMB file server built on top of a guest VM cluster. HA VM is not going to work for you (service interruption) and SoFS is not going to work for you (workload
different from SQL Server and / or Hyper-V is not supported). So... Tell what do you want to do and not what you're doing now :)
For a fault-tolerant file server scenarios see following links (make sure you replace StarWind with your shared storage specific, I'd suggest to use shared VHDX). See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731844(v=ws.10).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753969.aspx

    http://www.starwindsoftware.com/configuring-ha-file-server-for-smb-nas
    Hope this helped :)
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.
The goal is a file server that's as resilient as possible. I need to still use DFS namespace though. Its on a Dell VRTX server with built-in shared storage.
I'm having issues getting the High Availability wizard for General Purpose File Server to see local drives :(
So I'm just trying to understand the key differences between creating one of these and  a hyper-v server with file services installed.

  • Unable to connect to a Test database in UPK.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I recently had the Production version of UPK cloned to a virtual server and UPK is able to connect to the test database but when I launch UPK on my workstation and start the process of adding the Test Profile, it gives me an authentication error when I choose my current Windows login account to authenticate. I am running UPK version 3.6.1 and Oracle 10g database on a different server. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it? Please advise.

    Hi,
Can you test network connectivity with your Unix Server with a Telnet on your DirectAccess client. If it works, problem is not located on server-side but on DirectAccess client-side. Maybe your SSH client force IPv4 use (using IPv4 to connect instead
of hostnames, or legacy DLL use). I had a similar case with a client-server application that only rely on IPv4. I had to cheat with NETSH.EXE PORTPROXY as illustrated in my blog post :
    http://danstoncloud.com/blogs/simplebydesign/archive/2012/02/11/tcpv4-based-applications-with-directaccess.aspx
    Hope this help.

  • High Availability Test Cases for ECC6.0, PI 7.0, BI 7.0???

    Dear All
I am in a pretty difficult situation here. I have to write test cases for the components in the High Availability environment. We are running AIX 5L with HACMP/XD clusters ACTIVE/PASSIVE setting. The following components are in the landscape, ECC6.0, PI 7.0 BI 7.0 cFolders 4.0 Portal 7.0 SLD 2004s and Solman 4.0. I have to write test cases for the above components especially ECC, PI BI and cFolders in the HA environment as to
1.<b>WHAT WILL BE THE EFFECT ON OTHER COMPONENTS IF ECC</b> <b>FAILOVER  and so on for PI and BI</b>,
       2. How do I check the consistency of the system after a failover, since the time for a failover will be anywhere between 3 - 4 mins.
Can anyone pls give me a 5 or 6  checks like
    Checking RFC connections
    ABAP dumps
Consistency check (txn: SICK)   and so on
In the test cases I have to make sure that after a failover the system is up and ready to perform the activities that it was able to before the Failover......
Will appreciate any suggestions and will definitely reward points for any helpful answers....Thanks in advance.

    Hi Shailesh,
If you want you can activate SCM_SNC_GEN_1 depending upon business needs or configuration.
As per my understanding there is no need to activate any business function but if you need additional feature of SNC to be used then refer below help link for more details:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_SNC700_ehp01/helpdata/en/a2/6d67d9b60149cb887acf72ae0b90ac/frameset.htm
In ECC you are going for EPh5 which means no need to activate any additional business function(Normally SNC needs EPh4 only for some the latest feature to be use like in workorder collaboration ManufacturingWorkOrderInformation and ManufacturingWorkOrderProductionProgressNotification XML are used if ECC is with EPh4)

Searched on google, but couldn't get a single link explaining what this term means..Well, have not heard of this term myself in all the years I've worked with database. And so it seems Google too... Where do you hear the term? In what context was it used?
If one talks about class 1 and class 2 and so on in information technology, I immediately think IP address classes... But then I have a wee bit of networking background that explains that. ;-)

  • Physical Data Guard as Test Database?

I am in a new shop and the first DBA in the shop. On the first day I see that they have ‘tablespace full’ problems because people are running test jobs on the production database – reports, I hope!
    This is a 10g database on hp/ux.
I will suggest that I create a proper test database as a physical standby database from production. The amount of data in the production database is not enormous. There is just a need to create a test system good enough to pull the testers off the production system.
But what about the day that someone mangles the test system? How do you get a physical standby database back in sync? Restore from backup and reapply logs? Recreate the standby from production? Or is there a better way to do all this than physical standby?
    TYIA

    1) Running reports should never cause tablespaces to fill up. Selecting data doesn't cause any data to be written to tablespaces. You might get errors related to exhausting the TEMP tablespace if the reports are doing a lot of sorts, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're seeing.
    2) You would not normally create a test database as a standby of the primary database. Normally, you would take a backup of the production database and restore that backup on to the test server, rename the database, and open it up as the test system. Assuming you're using RMAN to back up the production database, this should be relatively straightforward.
    3) Normally, you would then schedule a regular restore of the production backup to the test server in order to refresh the test system. That's normally something that's done roughly monthly, but that depends on the frequency of your builds and how frequently you need pristine and/or updated data in the test system. In addition to providing a test system, doing regular restores is a great way to validate your backup and recovery strategy in a relatively low-stress environment-- it's much nicer to discover that the process that writes to tape has been broken for 3 weeks when you're attempting to refresh the test database than when the production database has failed and angry users are standing outside your cube demanding that you get the database up now.
    4) Going back to #1, though, if data tablespaces are filling up, that would seem like something that should be investigated in addition to the lack of a test environment.

  • Creating a reduced size Test database

    Hi everyone,
We currently have some test and development databases which are refreshed regularly as a whole with production data at regular intervals. However the production database is quite big and growing at a considerable rate. This makes demands for disk space on test database servers to grow as well. The test team do not need a full copy of the production so I am investigating the possibility of creating a procedure(perhaps write some scripts) whereby the test database are refreshed with only a certain portion of the production data, keeping all the relationships and constraints in consideration. I will appreciate any input and discussion on how this could be possible and what options can be explored.
    Many Thanks,
    Mandeep.

    Hi ,
Sorry for the late reply. The Test and Dev databases are refreshed with a fresh copy of the production data once or twice a month. The refresh is done by taking an export from the production, doing an import in the Test environment.
Oracle version is 9.2.0.6 on all servers.
    Thanks.

  • Database is High Protection Mode

    Dear Friends,
I configured dataguard standby database in oracle 11g.Then i did the following scenario's.
1)I changed the protection mode to "High protection".
    2)Shutdown the standby database.
As per the document, The primary database shutdown when standby database is down in High Protection Mode.
But my primary database did not shutdown. But if i fire "alter system switch logfile;", It get hangs. But parllely, I can able to login to primary db as normal user.
Can anybody explain what happen if database in "High Protection" Mode?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello;
Can you post the results of this run on the Primary :
SELECT PROTECTION_MODE FROM V$DATABASE;The Protection modes are "Maximum availability", "Maximum performance","Maximum protection" They are described in detail here
    1.4 Data Guard Protection Modes - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10700.pdf
If you search E10700-02 there is no "High protection" mode, so I'm not sure what you did. Maximum availability provides the highest protection, but also requires "SYNC" for your log_archive_dest_n parameter.
My own example is here :
