  • What kind of log I can get with "level informational" - c2950 & 6500

Hello, everybody, It is nice to meet you. I am working in Tokyo in japan as network engineer.
It is my first time to write something on here Cisco Support Community and I don't speak English very well.
So I hope everyone understand my pour question and writing. But I wish somebody anwser to this question.
I am using kiwi sever to manage four of 6500 and about thirty of c2950.
The kiwi server is working normally logging both 6500's syslog and c2950's.
But I have question about difference between 6500's level informational and c2950's.
For example, When I log in 6500 I can get a log from my kiwi server.
And When I enter some command to change config I can also get a log from my kiwi server.
However When it come to c2950 I can't get the logs. I can only get logs that notice 'interface up/down' or 'changed config' stuff like that.
I think I have correct config about logging both 6500 and c2950 as follow.
Trap logging: level informational, OOOOO message lines logged
Logging to XX.XX.XX.XX, OOOOO message lines logged, xml disabled,
                   filtering disabled
Anybody know what kind of log I can get with "level informational" on c2950.
    Thanks everybody.

Information is a fairly low severity which means you'll get everything except debugging messages.  This includes link up/down, config change,
CPU hog, etc.  If you're not seeing messages other than link up/down and config change, then there may not be anything else happening on the switch which triggers a log message.  Check the output of "show log".  That should agree with your syslog logs.

Most of the music that I purchased on I Tunes I bought and downloaded on my old I Mac which I replaced with this I Mac about 9 months ago.  When I"m using I Movie on this I Mac and try to open I Tunes tab in I Movie, most of the files are not accessible because I Movie says those fields are protected. What are .ds_store files and can they be removed?

Probably the easiest way is to use Onyx.
If you show invisibles you can see ds_store in each folder.
Open Terminal.app (it's in /Applications/Utilities) and copy & paste this command at the prompt...
    sudo chflags nohidden
    Press return.
    The reverse is
    sudo chflags hidden

  • When I connect my iPod3 to my Imac, the memory shows 13GB or so assigned to "other" (color coded yellow). What is this "other, and can I clear it?

When I connect my iPod3 to my Imac, the memory shows 13GB or so assigned to "other" (color coded yellow). What is this "other", and can I clear it?

The "Other" section on your iPod consists of several different things including album artwork, files you may or could be storing on it externally when using the iPod as a storage disk, the iPod's software/OS, as well as corrupt files that are leftover from failed sync operations with iTunes or are no longer recognized by the iPod's software or iTunes. The size of other is usually quite minute, around less than a GB, sometimes a little more (depending on the amount of media stored on your iPod).
In order to clear this space out, you'll need to restore your iPod to factory settings in iTunes.

Thunderbird 24.5.0 has a blue belt on imap, inbox, archives folder and one of 4 subfolders. What does this mean and can it be changed?

I see these on my Windows machine but not here in Linux, so I guess it's connected with the icon set available in your OS GUI.
Changing the theme may provide the result you want.Given that icons are OS and theme specific, it's hard to find definitive descriptions of their meanings. :-(

  • What is windowserver_last.log and why does it hate me?

My MacBook hard drive is making some click/clunk noises every half minute or so. Sounds like something indexing or writing to the hard drive in the background. Keeps doing it across restarts. Nothing super scary but enough to make me do a quick back up of the important files. I check my available disk space after backing up and discovered it was only 7GB when it should be 20GB! With a tool called WhatSize I discovered that the private directory is at 12.7 GB, most of that being a file called windowserver_last.log at 12.2 GB, with the rest being virtual memory swap stuff at an apparently reasonable .5 GB.
I assume it's safe to delete the log in console. What could be causing this? I think the little click/clunk hard drive noise I'm hearing right now is actually the MacBook writing to that log file a couple times a minute. Will deleting that file stop the constant logging?

    HI, Sanford.
Yes, it is safe to delete windowserver_last.log.
There are some bugs related to these logs.
The current windowserver.log is supposed to be rotated whenever you restart (or shutdown and restart). The old windowserver_last.log replaced by the existing windowserver.log and a new, blank windowserver.log created. It appears that in some cases this isn't happening.
It's also been found that every time one uses Command-Tab to switch between applications, the following three entries are written to windowserver.log:
Jun 10 19:55:56 [58] Hot key operating mode is now all but UA disabled
Jun 10 19:55:56 [58] "Dock" (0x5b0f) set hot key operating mode to normal
Jun 10 19:55:56 [58] Hot key operating mode is now normal
If you're a heavy user of Command-Tab and don't restart often, the windowserver.log will grow quite large. Likewise, after a restart and the rotation of the log, the windowserver_last.log will still be consuming a good bit of space as, if everything works, it is simply the previous windowserver.log.
IMO, writing this message to the log is unnecessary logging.
None of the normal Mac OS X Mac OS X Maintenance Scripts rotate or prune these logs: it seems it is only done via a restart or shutdown/restart.
The bug has been reported, so hopefully it will be fixed in some future Mac OS X Update.
    Good luck!

  • What is a cache and can I erase them to save space? (would it be bad if i did)

I am in high school and i've had my laptop for about 5 years now. I am into photography so thats where most of the memory on my computer can be found, I currently have 7.94 GB of room left. I'm trying to erase as much as i can to get some room back and i keep coming across caches. in fact i have about 346. So i was wondering what they are and can i delete them without harming anything.

Caches are small files that load up for example in Safari or whatever browser you use, they stay on your computer so that if you ever went to that website again it will load faster. You can clear the caches, but you'll be clearing everything that helps you load content faster, granted you probably don't use all the ones that you were using 5 years ago, the will automatically repopulate once you go the website again with a new cache file, so it's up to you. Best way, just boot to Safe mode, it'll clear caches and reset your preferences. You can clear more, but that's up to you.

I'm getting a blank 'FAQ" windown on my mac after closing Google Chrome or on start up. Any ideas what it is, what is causing it and how to get rid of it?
    Many thanks

Try another browser such a Safari. If you get the same issue then it's probably the site, if it works OK on another browser then it's probably Chrome and you should re-post on a Chrome forum discussion board.

  • Lost of software, secondary browser won't work and can't trash it either

I purchased a new MacBook Pro 13" after mine had water damage to motherboard but saved data onto external hard drive which I had downloaded the software and relevant data. I noticed that there are software that did not transfer over such as Microsoft Office conversion software which was bought couple years ago with my ex and she has the codes and disc so I supposed this is lost and cannot be retrieved?
My biggest issue only occurred few days ago and my Mac had been performing with no major issues. I can't seem to download some browsers and software. For example I play computer games and one is World Golf Tour which is a webpage based game and when you are ready to play  you click on a "Play Now" button and a browser pops up and downloads the course and game that you wish to play. I can get to all the pages on the webpage and read type click all that is shown except when I click onto "Play Now' button nothing happens and nothing comes up.
Couple of weeks ago I had downloaded an app "Swingmate" which helps calculate how much to strike your ball and was working great. Then I had to close Safari to download updates in software and when it came back on I could not get Swingmate to come up anymore. I tried to trace back what I could have download to make this happen so I discarded a few but the one that stands to mind is "Lightspark-Player-Pro" so I moved that to Trash and it is still trying to do so and 2 days the window still shows it is moving to trash. I also downloaded Adobe air and airappinstaller.
Then yesterday I noticed that I did not have Yahoo messenger installed in my new computer so I went to Yahoo webpage to try and install Yahoo Messenger 11.5 twice and it would not down load. Since I and Yahoo twice it created a Yahoo alias on my applications page so I decided to move it Trash. Now I have both Lightspark and Yahoo alias doing the same thing, its not moving but seems to be in limbo. Now anything I try to send to Trash does the same thing. And when I click on the X in circle to stop the trashing it just shows 'stopping' but it hasn't for 2 days. Sorry guys I am no computer smart just a user and I can't work out to take a pic to show.
I am frustrated and don't know what I did to start this and what can be done to resolve it so HELP me please?

i tried reinstalling itunes and then this message popped up: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below".
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

A bunch of icons of people I don't know. What are they for?

They are what is known as an "Easter egg". Most software programs have them. They're little jokes inserted by the software development team for users to discover if they have an idle moment.
Those particular images appear if you select an image in Design view, and then hold down the Control key on Windows (Command key on a Mac) and double-click the thumbnail icon of the image in the Property inspector. They're images of the program development team, their children, pets, etc.
They serve no purpose whatsoever. They're just a harmless joke, so you can delete the entire folder if it bothers you.
On the other hand, don't go deleting things willy-nilly in the configuration folder. If you do, you'll trash your installation of Dreamweaver. If you're new to the program, and don't know what you're doing, don't touch that folder - ever.
The main configuration folder should be regarded as sacrosanct. However, if your installation is accidentally corrupted, you might be told to ditch your personal configuration folder, which is located in a completely different place. See the Dreamweaver FAQ for details.

  • Apple ID - what is it for, and can I safely ignore it

My wife recently bought an iPad (about six months ago). I guess she registered it or something, because every few weeks she receives an email asking her to verify her Apple ID. None of the links in the email work (no matter what email readers she views it in) and she is quite worried about it - that the warranty may be void or something because she can't 'verify' it.
She asked me to look into it - and I must say I can't figure out what an Apple ID is either, or why I need one (I think I must have one to make this post).
Our business owns quite a few Apple products (iphones, several Mac computers, various iPods etc) and I can't recall (aside from posts like this) ever having used an Apple ID for anything. My guess is that with most of the computers we don't have one.
Are we missing on out anything that matters by just ignoring the Apple ID issue? Does it void the warranty or something?
    Cheers

They aren't asking for my Apple ID, they want my wife to 'verify' the email address she registered with - but the links they send don't work, and they don't provide a URL (often emails sending links will also provide a URL to copy and paste if the link doesn't work).
We have bought various iPhone and iPad apps using the App Store on the gadgets themselves, and the other day I bought some software through some kind of Mac App Store (sorry - might have the name wrong). I would much prefer to buy software directly on-line from the company which makes it, but this package wasn't available except through the Mac thing. Makes keeping track of receipts etc. much harder.
I find iTunes very confusing to use - not intuitive at all. I don't listen to music. I don't buy it (or any of the other stuff) but I do need to manage my iPhone (it is forever having technical glitches which requires me to re-set it to defaults etc, plus I need to sync the calendars etc.)
It actually took me about six months to work out that iTunes had anything to do with my iPhone - I knew there had to be some way of doing upgrades etc., but it never occurred to me to look for it in a music sales program that I never use.
Yeah. I know. My daughter tells me I'm a silly old **** and a technophobe. But it's me (not her) that makes the purchasing decisions...
