What is required to connect T420s DisplayPort to DVI-D port? (Sony Trinitron)

Hello.
My wife and I have recently been watching Netflix movies on our laptop when it occurred to me: why don't we watch this on our 36" screen?  So I went out and purchased a DisplayPort to DVI-D cable.  Hooked it all up, selected the appropriate input on the TV and... nothing.
I know that I need to choose the appropriate refresh rate and resolution.  My questions are:
- Is there anything else that I am missing?
- The NVidia Control Panel is not as intuitive as it could be.  How do I configure NVidia/Windows to enable the DisplayPort?
Any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
CONTEXT
- Laptop: T420s
- Cable: DisplayPort to DVI-D (passive)
- Operating System: Windows 7 (64 bit)
- graphics chipsets: integrated INTEL chip, and discrete Nvidia NVS 4200M Optimus

Hi Gamloi7.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my posting.
Config=>Display=>Graphics Card=Nvidia NVS 4200M
The T420s laptop has both an integrated GPU and a dedicated GPU.  I have tried using driving the display monitor using both... unfortunately it doesn't work.  All I see on the TV screen is black.
TESTS PERFORMED
- I have tried: Laptop (DisplayPort) >> to >> TV (DVI-D)... TV only displays a black screen
- I have tried: Laptop (VGA) >> to >> TV (DVI-D)... TV only displays a black screen
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Yes I have extended the desktop (via the Win+P shortcut).
- For both test cases above, I disconnected the cable from the TV and connected it to my monitor to ensure that the signal was working... sure enough the monitor worked as expected
- as I understand it the Sony Trinitron KV-36HS500 supports: 480p, 1080i, 720p
- The following schematic is for the back of my TV. Do you happen to know if VGA or DisplayPort are compatible with any other standards?  For example... I don't suppose I can go from VGA or DisplayPort to S-Video ??

  • Connect to Dual-Link DVI-D port on monitor using DVI-D to VGA adapter -- getting no signal

I have a T400.  I am trying to connect to a dual-link DVI-D port on my LG monitor via the VGA port on my T400 laptop. I bought a DVI-D to VGA adapter, but I am getting no signal.
Do I need some other method or adapter or cable?  Monitor works fine for VGA to VGA connection.
    Solved!

I happened onto this thread while searching for a way to connect my T400 to my wife's 27" iMac. What I learned thus far is that Atlona makes a device (AT-DP400) that will convert dual link DVI to Mini DisplayPort. But Atlona says that one's graphic card must support 2560x1440. The T400 doesn't have a DVI out (nor does my current docking station), but it sounds like one can get a docking station that does. But that won't help if my card won't support 2560x1440. So are you saying that there is no way I will be able to use the 27" iMac as a monitor for the T400?

  • Novice to wifi - what is required to connect to Internet?

I am thinking about buying an ITouch and don't know much about wireless. I live in an area where I have to use wireless broadband or dial up to get to the internet so am not too familiar with it.
    - Do I need some type of ISP to connect the internet on the ITouch?
    - I use an IMAC. Do I need to set up a wireless network at home to use the ITouch with it?
    - What else do I need to know? I looked for apple information on this topic but couldn't find it.
    - I want to know this before I go to the Apple store because the people there generally don't know anything. When I ask them questions they usually say something like "it's automatic", "It's seamless" and it never is.

At home you would need to set up a wireless router to your ISP. On the road you would access using a open public access point. These can be found at coffee shops, Airports etc. Usually coffee shops that have them will give you an access password if needed.

    Hi,
Remote connection from PC or laptop to server must use citrix or terminal service. You can also use VPN to access the citrix server. In the VPN, you  can use forticlient SSL VPN :
    http://portal.modeldriven.org/sites/default/files/SSL_VPN_Client_User_Guide.pdf
You must install ica client in your laptop before running the B1 from citrix. make sure that the user code to run B1 in the citrix must be registered in the citrix

    Hello Marcel,
It sounds like you are wanting to use the iMac in Target Display mode with your PC. Target Display mode is a feature that is supported from one Mac to another Mac according to this article:
OS X Mavericks: Use another Mac as a display
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14264
Target Display Mode lets you use a Mac as the external display for another, “primary” Mac.

im not sure what to do next - can anyone help?
    im running OSX 10.7.4

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

I'm not sure but I give it a try.Turn your security(WPA/WEP) and Firewall temporarely off. HOST is the IP address of the printer. QUEUE can be YES or a specific amount of prints, like 1,2,3......
If I look at the manual of your printer I see that you can find the IP and MAC addresses in the Network Configuration Report.I don't know what the USER is doing there because if there is a user then there must be a password.

  • HT201180 What type of Fire Wire cable to use to connect MacBook Pro 2009 to tape-based Sony TRV720 camcorder

What type of Fire Wire cable to use to connect MacBook Pro 2009 to tape-based Sony TRV720 camcorder

USB is the slowest. Firewire is faster. eSata is the fastest (and will be superceded by Thunderbolt).  The old Fire was 4 pin (Firewire 400 and is essentially obsolete), new is 9 pin, Firewire 800.  All of the will transmit data, simply a different speeds.
For eSata connectivity, you MBP must have an express card slot (and the appropriate eSata connection card) and you external enclosure must have an eSata input.  eSata cables will only transmit data, therefor it will require power by Firewire or USB cables.
    Ciao.

  • I have macbook 13 2009 i need connect mini displayport to hdmi

hi i need connect this macbook by mini displayport to hdmi how can i do this?

If you have a DVI input plug on your TV a better solution would be to use a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY with a DVI to DVI cable to the TV for video with headphone jack to RCA sound plugs for audio
HDMI is a badly designed interface developed for the purpose of controlling content not a superior signal. Since control could not be done with analog or DVI connections, HDMI was a new digital alternative to allow whoever wanted to control the content with HDCP.
By definition, a HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection includes High-bandwidth Digital Copy Protection (HDCP). HDCP was developed by Intel, but it is the brainchild of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and it's purpose is to prevent copying of HD material.
HDCP is licensed by Digital Content Protection, a subsidiary of Intel. In addition to paying fees, licensees agree to limit the capabilities of their products. For example, high-definition digital video content must be restricted to DVD quality on non-HDCP compliant video outputs when requested by the source. DVD-Audio content is restricted to DAT quality on non-HDCP digital audio outputs (analog audio outputs have no quality limits). Licensees cannot allow their devices to make copies of content, and must design their products in ways that "effectively frustrate attempts to defeat the content protection requirements."

  • What plug adapter do I use to connect the new Macbook USB-C port to a cinema display?

What plug adapter do I use to connect the new Macbook USB-C port to a cinema display?

If you intend to connect your 2008 display to the new macbook then you will need a USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter ($79) as well as a mini display port to VGA port adapter ($29) and also a VGA-VGA Standard 15-Pin VGA Male to VGA Male Cable ($5).
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MJ1L2AM/A/usb-c-vga-multiport-adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/B/mini-displayport-to-vga-adapter
    http://www.amazon.com/VGA-VGA-Standard-15-Pin-Male-Cable/dp/B0002AHT0M
The 2008 old cinema analogue Apple Cinema Displays were mostly pre-quipped with a mini display port rather than a  VGA or HDMI port. So you will have to connect the mini display port to VGA port adapter to your 2008 ACD and the USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter to your new macbook and connect the two female VGA ports with a VGA-VGA Standard 15-Pin VGA Male to VGA Male Cable.
But I can't guarantee though that the above setup will work for your new macbook and your 2008 Apple Cinema Display. You should double check with Apple support regarding my suggestion. Just let me know.......

What is the life expectancy of the older base stations (flying saucer/spaceship looking one) and what are the telltale connection signs that it's starting to go?
Apple has never published any life expectancy specifications for any of their routers (or desktops/laptops) that I am aware of. As a rule of thumb, I would consider two years for any consumer electronics that operates 24 x 7 to be a reasonable period. Obviously some experience more or less and it would depend on a number of factors: ambient temperature, electrical circuit stability, area prone to lightening strikes, etc.
Some telltale signs that an AirPort has (or is about to fail):
Status lights are not illuminated or do not match any of the known configurations.
Unit feels cool to the touch after power is applied even after a lengthly (15-30 minutes) period of time.
Unit refuses to intialize, even after performing multiple "factory default" resets.
    Weak or no wireless signal.
    Ethernet port(s) not functioning
    Etc.
Also, are there any compatiility issues with newer models and G5/G4s?
    Three potential issues:
Depending on the version of OS X you are running on these clients, they may not be able to support the latest AirPort Utility required to administer the latest AirPorts. OS X 10.5.7 is the minimum required.
Support for 802.11n connectivity. Most G5 or G4 Apples support 802.11g, some only 802.11b.
Support for WPA2. Not supported if the G5 or G4 is equipped with the Original AirPort Card.
